The Tarnished could have stopped at any time and ignored the Dung-Eater at Roundtable Hold, but he didn't take any of his chances. Instead he pursued the man like any other, and fulfilled his role even when that simple act of doing so brought a bitter end to his life...

Summary
Fia's nurturing kindness has made the Tarnished one obsessed. Her every action weighs on his self-control, driving him into her arms again and again. But the deathbed maiden is cruel with her affection, and frequently sends the Tarnished one away to lie upon his lonely bed without satisfaction. Her duty is more important to her than his feelings, and the Tarnished one is going insane trying to figure out if he should keep pursuing a relationship with her or simply give up to find someone else who will be more receptive to his feelings.
As he wrangles with all of this, the Tarnished one must also deal with the unpleasant company of the knights at the Hold while figuring out his own identity. Luckily, he at least has the support of Roderika and Smithing Master Hewg to keep him grounded as he searches for what a Tarnished one like him really needs.
Whether that be maidens or not…
