So You Think You Can Survive Class 1-A? (A Guidebook)

Summary:

Shinsou Hitoshi is transferring to the hero course. His new friends, Hagakure and Ojiro, send him an email with a link attached to it. Shinsou reads the email, and thinks it's worth looking into. He might have stayed up a little later than he should've. God, Shouta and Hizashi will get so mad at him. Oh well, at least coffee exists, right?

Notes:

Hey, it's Happy! Sorry for not posting for a while! I have no excuse. But,,, I do now! There's another frick-fracking power outage going on in my district, so excuse me while I sit in a dark house for the weekend. Anyways, as always, enjoy this read, and hopefully I'll update soon. Love you!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

X/X/XXXX

To: Shinsou Hitoshi

From: Hagakure Tooru & Ojiro Mashirao

Subject: YOUR DAD SENT US!!

Shinsou smiled at the email. He wondered what was in store for him today. With 1-A students, you really didn’t know. It was strange to think that in a couple weeks, he would become one of them. Shinsou opened the message up, only to be greeted by an explosion of sound from his computer. He winced, his low light setting still not being enough for the bright pink background Hagakure had most likely put up. The E-card read: So You Think You Can Survive 1-A? (A Guidebook). The sound was coming from three cartoon-ish cats playing trumpets, moving around the perimeter of the card. Oh, so Shouta had told them about their shared love of cats. He smiled. How long would this email take to read? The cover said it was a guidebook, so it might be long. Shinsou checked the time. 9:13. He had some time. But if it came down to it, Shinsou would still have to go to bed at ten. Training to be a hero was tiring. So, so tiring. But he could make time for his friends(?). So, he scrolled down. There was a table of contents.

Section One: Meet the Students!

Section Two: A Walk Around the Dorms.

Section Three: Things (And People) to Look Out For.

Section Four: Ships and Squads!

Section Five: Topics Not To Bring Up.

Huh. Was it really that long that Ojiro and Hagakure needed to put in a table of contents? And, what did boats have to do with being a hero? At the bottom of the pink card was a link. It was titled: If you prefer paper reading to e-reading! Which Shinsou did. So thank god for that. Ojiro must’ve put it in, he seemed sensible in that way. But still not sensible enough to make his hero costume more protective. What’s a Gi going to do in combat? Not much. Shinsou’s printer was making loud enough sounds that he needed to get up to see what was happening. Something could have been stuck, with all the noise it was making. Or the thing could not have been printing. Except it was. Oh, it was , it was just taking an extremely long time. A whole damn book was coming out of his printer. When it stopped, he had one hundred pages of words sitting right in front of him. Shinsou borrowed a staple gun from Hizashi (god only knows why he has one) and stapled all of it together. Hizashi ushered for him to go to bed, and Shinsou assured him he would soon. The front of the book was as pink as on the computer, and also had the cats on it. Shinsou flipped to the first page. He set a timer on his phone for ten o’clock. Time to start reading.

Section One: Meet the Students!

There are twenty seats in the 1-A classroom, soon to be twenty one. That new student should get a brief summary of what is going to be up in their face and space for the next two and a half years. Get ready, Shinsou.

Seat No. 1: Aoyama Yuga

We don’t know if he’s French. He speaks French, he says he’s French, but he lives here. It’s all very confusing. Also, his natural hair color is blond? How?! Whatever. Aoyama is very flamboyant in his movement, and with his quirk. Said quirk is a giant laser that is centred at his stomach. He can shoot a sparkly laser from his belly button, is what we’re trying to say. He specializes in long range combat, and his hero costume is just. Just. Very him. Aoyama’s hero name is unreasonably long and flamboyant, once again. He is The Shining Hero: Can’t Stop Twinkling. He also asked for a glittery cape on his hero costume. He got it. He also asked for giant sunglasses and a suit of armor. But then again, my hero costume is a pair of gloves! Don’t say that, Tooru. And don’t keep this in the final draft. It’s weird. Aoyama is a very loud and vain person, though he is not the most irking. He’s actually pretty cool on good days. Moving on!

Seat No. 2: Ashido Mina

Ashido is a very nice person, uplifting and supportive of everyone in 1-A. She’s not the brightest, but her quirk is impressive. She can shoot acid out of her hands. It melts everything it touches and Ashido can slide around on it. She is Pinky, because Midnight made her change it from Alien Queen. Her hero costume is a leopard print sleeveless pant suit with a fur lining. It’s cool. Ashido is a bit of a romantic, basing her pairs on virtually nothing. She likes to think of Mr. Aizawa and Ms. Joke as being an item, even though Mr. Aizawa is married. She also regularly sets her classmates up on blind dates without them knowing. Surprisingly, she does her research when it comes to her friends, and most of the dates have gone well. Take us for example! Shinsou doesn’t need to know that. It’s related to Mina’s profile! Fine. Ashido herself has not been seen with anyone so far, but just like her good friend Kaminari Denki, she’s a bit of a flirt. We love Pinky! Next!

Seat No. 3: Asui Tsuyu

Tsu is an amazing froggy girl. She never gets in fights, nor picks sides. She isn’t afraid to share her opinion on anything. She’s also very calm and collected. Bakugo can tolerate her, and that’s a big compliment. Tsu’s quirk is Frog. It’s a mutant type, she can do anything a frog can do. You can also catch her saying ‘Kero’ from time to time. Her hero suit is a green body suit paired with a utility belt and underwater goggles. Those underwater goggles have never been used, since she seems to be able to swim without them. Tsu’s hero name is The Rainy Season Hero: Froppy! Don’t you think it’s cute? According to Recovery Girl, Tsu is an incredible student with an incredible quirk. She says Tsu has no weaknesses! Even though we have referred to her as Tsu for this whole segment, she only allows people she calls close friends to call her that. Though I doubt you will have trouble becoming her close friend. All in all, Tsu is a wonderful person, and a good ally to have.

Seat No. 4: Iida Tenya

Our very own class representative, Iida is strict on the rules. He’s serious about everything concerned with school and becoming a hero. You will see him waving his arms in every direction all over school. This is usually because he is lecturing his classmates about taking responsibility for their actions and all that. Iida is loud, by the book, and most of the time, a downer. The only times he has fun is when his friends really push him to. Our recent Christmas party was authorized by the teachers, but it took Midoriya, Ochako, and Tsu to get him to come! I think he suspected the punch was spiked! It was, Tooru. Yeah, but that doesn’t mean he should’ve been able to tell! Iida’s hero name is Ingenium. He took the name of his elder brother after he had been immobilized in the Stain incident. Iida’s a great friend and classmate to have, and we love our shiny robot!

Seat No. 5: Uraraka Ochako

Uraraka is so powerful, she can defy gravity! Her bubbly personality mixed with her floaty quirk, this girl has got an aesthetic going for her! But don’t be fooled, Uraraka might be short and sweet, but she’s got moves. After her training under the pro hero, Gunhead, she learned martial arts to help with close range. She learned how to defend herself from knife attacks and others. Instances like the Sports Festival really showcase how competitive she is. When faced up against Bakugo, nobody expected her to do so well. Uraraka is a strategic fighter with lots of tricks up her sleeve. We think she’s going to be a spectacular hero! When she’s not fighting she is spending time with her friends and family. She is definitely a people person, and makes friends easily. Again, like us! I’m not really her friend, Tooru, but yes, I like Uraraka too. Her hero name is Uravity. She combined her last name with gravity, proving just how much she values family. It’s the reason she is training to be a hero. Well, Let’s go to our next seat!

Seat No. 6: Ojiro Mashirao

Oh, it’s me. I think of myself as calm and composed — which you are. I specialize in martial arts, and I use my tail to help me with them. That’s how I got my hero name: The Martial Arts Hero: Tailman. I think I get along with others pretty well, and I keep quiet. UA has been my dream since I was a kid. It’s just so nice to see all these other people like me achieve their dream, even if it is different from mine. I don’t have much else to say, so welcome to Class 1-A, Shinsou.

(Actually, I have a lot to say. Being the girlfriend of a shy guy has its pros, and it has its cons. Mashirao is an amazing juggler, and since he uses his tail as an extra limb he can juggle a billion bean bags at a time. Also, when he’s happy, his tail wags like a dog. Don’t tell him I told you this. It’s for extra information, or otherwise known as blackmail. :D)

Seat No. 7: Kaminari Denki

Kaminari is an idiot that we all love. The Pikachu lookalike is hilarious and often quotes american memes. English is his best subject, although he fails in everything else. It’s kind of a wonder he got into the hero course. His dorm room is tacky, but he can do as he likes. Kaminari gets along with a lot of people. Including Bakugo, strangely enough. He is ‘bros’ with Sero, Kirishima, and Ashido. They call themselves the ‘Bakusquad’. More on this later. He’s a flirt just like Mina, and sometimes joins M*neta in their schemes. We hope he’s there just to keep an eye on the short pervert. Kaminari’s quirk is called Electrification. It allows him to cover his body in electricity and spread it out towards others. It is very destructive, and can be activated very suddenly. This one time, he was nodding off on the couch, and I tapped him on the shoulder and he electrocuted me. It hurt a lot. Oh, poor Mashirao. His hero name is The Electrification Hero: Chargebolt! Kami’s a real fun time once you get to know him… if you know what I mean! ;)

Seat No. 8: Kirishima Eijiro

Kirishima is an awesome person, always looking out for others and supporting them. He often labeled things that he likes as ‘manly’. When it’s with girls it’s “The girl version of manly!”. He talks a lot, and you can see him with a smile on his face, flashing those shark teeth! He is devoted to his friends, even going as far to rescue one (read: Bakugo). Kirishima is also part of the Bakusqaud, and considers himself a Number One Bro, bro! His quirk is Hardening, he can transform the skin on his body into a rock-like form. At the Sports Festival, he went up against Tetsutetsu Tetsutetu, and beat him. Kiri is really good friends with Bakugo (And maybe more!! Tooru, why?) and Bakugo admits Kirishima is a good hero as well. Which is a huge compliment, by the way. His favorite hero is Crimson Riot, who he based his hero name and costume on. Kirishima Eijiro, The Hardening Hero: Red Riot! Next!

Seat No. 9: Koda Koji

Koda is a very shy person, usually preferring not to speak. He uses sign language instead. He can talk to animals, but is deathly afraid of bugs. Jirou found out about this when she was teamed up with him at the final exams. It turned out Present Mic had this exact same fear, and they took him down together. Koda is a cinnamon bun who recently came out as Aro Ace, though he has enough platonic love to give out to even Monoma! His hero name is the Petting Hero: Anima. I like Koda, even though he looks really tough on the outside, he’s such a softie. Like you, Mashi? No. Aww, don’t be shy! Moving on.

Seat No. 10: Sato Rikido

Sato is a baker, this going along with his quirk; the power to become stronger by five fold, for three minutes, by ingesting exactly ten grams of sugar. Because of his lovely baking habit, this is easy to measure. Sato is a very focused student, and guess what? Takes cake orders! You know, there’s more to him than just baking cakes. Yes, but who cares? I like sweets and I cannot lie! Sato is the Sweets Hero: Sugar Man! I have heard from Midoriya that his loud voice and big features made him to be an intimidating person on first impression, but he really isn’t! Just like everything else about him, Sato is a sweetheart! I’m not going to make too many sugar puns around him, but he says three a day is okay. Going forward we have…

Seat No. 11: Shoji Mezo

Shoji is very quiet, and despite his sort of scary appearance, he’s really nice. He’ll help you with your homework if you ask (with Tooru has) even though he insists there are smarter students out there. Don’t listen to him. He’s too empathetic and is always willing to lend a helping hand. Or five. Or even his life! He told me so once. Too selfless, that one. You sound like a grandmother. Well, then you narrate! Shoji is a very capable student, ranking sixth place in the Quirk Apprehension test. Having lunch with him is strange, because he never takes his mask off; morphing one of his extra limbs into a mouth. His favorite foods are takoyaki and squid ink pasta. His hero name is the Tentacle Hero: Tentacole. Don’t forget the extreme tallness! Yes, he is tall. And I wonder what’s underneath his mask? Oh, whatever, next!

Seat No. 12: Jirou Kyoka

Kyoka is a goth lesbian princess and we’d have her no other way! The girl with the ear jacks is usually monotone around strangers, but with her friends is a whole other story. She’s open to the people she loves. That means sharing the new songs she likes, letting other girls put shiny makeup on her, and not slapping Kaminari anymore when he tries to touch her guitar. She still glares, though. Kyoka likes being seen as attractive, except doesn’t like when you compliment her. If you’re a boy, she’s slap you, if you’re a girl, she’ll go away blushing. It was a wonder her and Yaomomo ever got together. Don’t let her unenthusiastic demeanor get you down, because she is intelligent and a bright hero in training. We also will provide you with earplugs, on the days she rocks out in her room. Jirou Kyoka, the Hearing Hero: Earphone Jack. Next seat!

Seat No. 13: Sero Hanta

A proud Spiderman quirkalike, Sero hangs out with the Bakusquad as well. Helping Kaminari spout many, many memes. He’s really friendly and laid back, that’s why him and Kami get along so well. Being brave and making jokes is charismatic! His quirk, Tape, lets him shoot tape from his elbows. He has enhanced strength, letting him swing from poles and trees with his tape. His hero costume is black, white, and yellow. Really standing out from the crowd. Sero is an extremely competent hero in training, almost defeating both Todoroki and Uraraka. Sero is a lazy student, but gets things done in the end. At least more than most of his friends. When he teamed up with M*neta against Midnight, I wonder how he felt. Or what he didn’t. He was passed out for most of it, remember? Oh, yeah. He is the Taping Hero: Cellophane!

Seat No. 14: Tokoyami Fumikage

Tokoyami is kinda an oddball. He is dark and mysterious, and often doesn’t respond to pointless questions. Like that one time Iida told him to get off a desk because it was ‘disrespectful’. You can vaguely hear Tokoyami reciting Edgar Allen Poe under his breath when he’s bored, and sketching monsters in his notebook. I took a look once, and it gave me nightmares. Yeah, I asked him the meaning of life as a joke, and he looked at me, dead serious, and said, “There is no meaning. Once you’re done you will realise that is a stupid question.” I am still spooked to this day. His quirk is Dark Shadow, which means he can use his shadow as a weapon/second in command. In class, Tokoyami gets Dark Shadow to shut up, but in the dorms, Dark Shadow talks almost as much as Kirishima! Dark Shadow also really likes bagels. Tokoyami’s hero name is the Jet-Black Hero: Tsukuyomi. As seen at the Sports Festival, when he placed third, Tokoyami is gonna be an awesome hero!

Seat No. 15: Todoroki Shouto

He’s the hottest and coolest boy in the school, Todoroki is level headed and doesn’t talk much. He was super focused on becoming the opposite of the hero his father, Endeavor, wanted until… Midoriya. At the Sports Festival, when they were fighting one another, Midoriya helped him see that it was his own power, not his father’s. How have they not gotten together yet?! I’ve even heard Midoriya talk about his dual-colored eyes! That sounds like a crush to me. Thank you, Mashirao! Todoroki is just so good at using his quirk, that he was recommended to UA. He got in, of course. Even at USJ, he took down real villains effortlessly. His hero name is Shouto, but people have been bugging him to change it to Katy Perry. He still doesn’t get it. The poor dude. He is a terrible cook, but pretty much perfect at literally everything else. Bakugo has to help cook his cold soba. Also, f*ck Endeavor.

Seat No. 16: Hagakure Tooru

Yay! Me! I am the prettiest girl in UA, even if you can’t see me! I am bubbly and sweet, or have been told by my boyfriend who’s the best! My whole body is invisible, and I take all of my clothes off to become completely invisible. My friends and classmates think it’s awkward, but that’s the price of becoming a hero. I might not be the most powerful person in 1-A, but I do have some tricks up my sleeve! As seen at the Provisional Licence Exam, I used a special move called Light Refraction. I bend my transparent body to refract light into villain’s eyes. Basically, I’m the best. Yes, you are. Thank you! I’ll be here for the next two years!

Seat No. 17: Bakugo Katsuki

Let us introduce you to King/Lord Explosion Murder, the blastiest of the blasty, the most menacing of all! With his head of spiky ash blond hair, Bakugo is an… interesting one. He is a natural born hero, with his Explosion quirk and pure determination. Him coming in first at the Sports Festival is just one example of this. But, he has a temper. And I mean a big one. If you flinch and he decides he doesn’t like it, you better run. Or, he might just glare at you. That option is actually not that bad. From the time that we’ve spent with him, we know which glares are better than others. As Tsu once pointed out, Bakugo might not be as popular as a pro, because he’s so scary and always mad at everyone. Except Kirishima. Hmmm… I wonder why? ;) Fun fact, Bakugo is a spectacular cook. And he’s very considerate with it, too. He knows that “You weak nerds can’t handle my amazing spicy chicken!” and so proceeds to make us a non-spicy meal while screaming; “DIE! DIE! DIE!”. Yep. That’s our Bakugo.

Seat No. 18: Midoriya Izuku

Broccoli Boi, Cinnamon Roll, Cinnamon Bun, Damn Nerd, Deku, or whatever you call him, Midoriya is going to be an outstanding hero one day! His closeness to All Might already proves that. And no, Todoroki, he’s not All Might’s secret love child. You can find Midoriya under a tree, frantically writing notes in his hero notebook and mumbling who-knows-what, or sitting with his friends (read: Dekusquad) chatting happily. Yes, this is all in the same day. If you find Midoriya sleep walking around the dorms, don’t be surprised. Listen close to what he’s saying, and you’ll find it’s pretty funny. His quirk is an Emitter type and quite powerful at that, but his true power might be rattling off hero facts and being a fanboy! I find it hilarious how his face lights up when encountering a hero he knows. I know right? He makes friends with literally anyone, even Bakugo (when they were younger, at least) so don’t think you can escape his friendship. You are not the exception, Shinsou. None of us are. His hero name is Deku! Btw, if you get the chance, totally check out his room. It’s so full of All Might merch. He has a freaking plush!

Seat No. 19: M*neta Minoru

Nope.

Seat No. 20: Yaoyorozu Momo

Momo was recommended to UA because of her quirk, practicality, and sophistication. She is a level headed but sweet rich girl, always willing to lend a hand. Of course, with this reputation, she landed the spot of Vice Class Representative. Her bouncy personality is one of the many charismatic things about Momo. She’s also very humble about her wealthy background, and likes buying things for her friends. She is innocent, and doesn’t get or appreciate inappropriate jokes and actions from her fellow classmates. Her hero name is the Everything Hero: Creati! Momo has a genius intellect, once interrupting All Might and giving better advice on Midoriya’s actions in that lesson. At first glance, that would have been seen as harsh, but she was just doing what she thought was right. Momo’s like that. Stands up and speaks up for what she believes in. Not as blunt as Tsu, but enough to be well respected as a student and future hero. Speaking of being a hero, Momo has a fiery passion for becoming one, and was very disappointed when her pro hero ‘trainer’ stuck her into a photo shoot. That was sad. In the end, Momo keeps her chin up and never looks back!

That concludes the end of Section One. See you in the next one!

—Hagakure and Ojiro
