A fic that becomes a space to hang out in, almost, a certain atmosphere. It’s smart, it’s historical, well-researched. It’s very good with gender, gender representation and transness. It takes a close look at the distrust and love between an angel and a demon — their bond grows steadily and subtly and so beautifully. The pining and fights are chef’s kiss. This fic will stab you 23 times and you’ll say thank you, thank you, thank you. Warm, warm rec.

The description of this fic doesn't do it justice IMO. Crowley and Aziraphale spend a long time together in Rome, after just a smattering of interactions (the Ark, Gologotha, etc) when they're not really sure of each other yet. As their dynamic evolves, they can't be together but they can't stay away and in this push-pull they both nurture and hurt each other. The prose is fantastic, the historical fiction backdrop is chef's kiss, their arguments are canon-typical devastating (I'm looking at you Season 02) and the pining is off the charts. Should be up there with the GO long-reads hall-of-fame.

A feat of storytelling and historical fiction, just phenomenal. Mind the angst, it got me good at times, but there's a happy ending eventually. Author also wrote beautiful descriptions of demisexual, polyam, and genderfluid characters/relationships and i so appreciate that.
