“But I don’t want to go to school.”
“Oh Jungkookie…” Hoseok sighed from the passenger seat as Yoongi pulled the car in front of the school building, looking over to the back seat where his fourteen year old son sat, “Don’t pout baby, it’ll be good. I promise. Jiminie and Taehyungie will be there!”
Jungkook crossed his arms, “I see them all the time. That doesn't count.”
“Come on Jungkook.” Yoongi started, his tone firm yet hopeful, “This is your first day, it’ll be good.”
Hoseok hummed in agreement, reaching back to rest a hand on Jungkook’s knee, “I know you’re scared baby but sometimes we have to face our fears in order for even greater things to happen.”
“I’m not scared .” Jungkook mumbled, making no move to get out of the car.
“Baby—”
“I’m not a baby anymore eomma!” Jungkook snapped, harsh enough for Hoseok to reel back with wide eyes in shock.
Yoongi was whipping around his eyes glaring, “Min Jungkook you do not speak to your eomma like that do you understand me?!”
“Hyung, stop. It’s okay.” Hoseok rested a hand on Yoongi’s chest, gentle yet firm enough to make his touch known.
“It’s not okay—”
“Sorry eomma.” Jungkook whispered, his gaze glued to the car seat.
“Oh ba— Jungkookie , eomma isn’t mad.” Hoseok rushed to comfort his son, “I know you’re not a baby anymore, come on, there’s only one way to make up for this.” Hoseok spoke, nudging Jungkook before getting out of the car, waiting for Jungkook to follow suit with his bookbag lazily slung from his shoulder before Hoseok wrapped him in a warm embrace.
“Eomma!” Jungkook tried to fight the hug which only caused Hoseok to hold him tighter.
“Why don’t you want to go to school Jungkookie?” Hoseok asked again, leaning back to meet the younger boy's gaze.
Jungkook looked down, mumbling, “‘S ‘cus you and appa are...are, you know.”
Hoseok’s shoulders dropped a little, he tried to cover the dread in his voice, “You mean...vampires?”
Jungkook nodded, he was about to explain more when Jimin came to tackle him from behind, Taehyung jogging his way over.
“Jungkook! What took you so long we were waiting for ages !”
“Yeah class is about to start, come on!”
Hoseok smiled as he watched the two tug Jungkook up towards the school, waving when Jungkook looked back over his shoulder briefly.
“What was that all about.” Yoongi huffed when Hoseok got back into the car.
Hoseok sat there in the passenger seat, watching Jungkook walk into the school and disappear behind the doors.
“Hey, darling, are you alright?” Yoongi’s voice was gentle, his hand coming to rest on Hoseok’s thigh.
“Jungkookie said...he said that he was scared to go to school...because of us .”
“Us?” Yoongi echoed, confused, “Because we’re vampires?”
Hoseok turned to meet Yoongi’s gaze, nodding, “Yeah, because we’re vampires hyung. What do you think that means? You don’t think...I mean, you don’t think he’s ashamed of us...do you?”
“Hey,” Yoongi started, reaching a hand over to cup Hoseok’s cheek, guiding their gazes together, “Our son loves you so much darling, you have been the best eomma to him for all these years. There is no way that he would ever be ashamed of you, of us .”
Hoseok nodded, his eyes fluttering shut as he leaned into Yoongi’s palm, “Our little boy is growing up hyung, he’s going to such a big school now and he won’t even let me call him my baby anymore.”
Yoongi leaned over to press a kiss to Hoseok’s lips, smiling, “He’s just going through those weird teenage years right now darling. But trust me, our son will always be our son no matter what.”
“Will you talk to him tonight? He always seems more open to telling you these things.”
“Of course.” Yoongi kissed Hoseok once more, and again, and one more time until Hoseok was finally, finally smiling again. “Now let’s go home and water that garden of yours.”

Yoongi took a deep breath before knocking on Jungkook’s bedroom door, creaking the door open to find Jungkook laying out on his bed, hands busied with his phone, “Can I come in?” Yoongi asked as he entered, closing the door behind him.
Jungkook sat up straight quickly, his head bowed down, “Sorry about earlier appa...I didn’t mean to snap at eomma that way…”
Yoongi sighed, moving to sit next to Jungkook on the bed, “I don’t like it when you talk to your eomma that way, you know he loves you so much. Everything he does is for you.”
“I know.” Jungkook mumbled, shoulders slumped down.
Yoongi wrapped an arm around Jungkook’s shoulders, bringing him close to his side, “And you know appa loves you too, right?”
“I know.” Jungkook mumbled again, looking away but leaning into Yoongi’s touch.
Yoongi pressed a kiss to the top of Jungkook’s head, “So what’s going on? Why are you suddenly so scared to go to school? You love getting to hang out with your friends.”
Jungkook was quiet for a moment, a long, long beat that held the setting sun’s hue spilling in through Jungkook’s darkened curtains. “Last year…” He started in a quiet voice, “We had a history class where we talked about... vampires …”
Yoongi squared his jaw, “I see.” A breath, “Jungkook, you know your eomma and I would never hurt you—”
“It’s not that!” Jungkook whipped his head around, rushing to explain, “I know you and eomma would never hurt a fly, and I know you’re both good people—good vampires— but it’s just...it’s just we learned about how other people treated them…”
“Oh…” Yoongi nodded in understanding, “Vampires have not been treated fairly by humans for centuries. All it took was a few bad apples and then the humans were coming for us with fire, they were the ones to drive vampires to near extinction.”
“Why did you help me then? A human ?” Jungkook asked with big eyes and a pout.
Yoongi smiled fondly, “It was your eomma, Jungkook. He wanted to raise you, give you a family. And regardless of the history revolving around our two kinds, raising you was the best decision that we’ve ever made.” Yoongi rubbed Jungkook’s back, “You’re the best thing that’s happened to us Jungkook. We both love you very much, no history is going to change something like that.”
Jungkook smiled a little, the tense string in his shoulders softening a bit, “Hey, appa?”
“Yaeh?”
“I love you.” Jungkook leaned forward to hug Yoongi.
Yoongi hugged him back, “I love you too, son.”
“Oh, and also, there’s one more thing.”
“Hm?” Yoongi hummed.
“I joined the soccer team.”

“I’m telling you Jin hyung.” Hoseok started animatedly over his warm cup of blood in Seokjin and Namjoon’s kitchen, “There’s something going on!”
“Isn’t there always something going on with that boy of yours?” Seokjin mused, taking his warm cup of red over to the table to sit with Hoseok.
“Hey at least I only have one of them.” Hoseok sighed, his head in his hands. “I asked Yoongi hyung to talk to Jungkook the other day and he did but when I asked hyung what it was that they talked about he said it’s nothing and that Jungkookie— my Jungkookie—joined the soccer team!”
“Hey,” Seokjin’s tone turned a little less teasing, a little more gentle as he rested a hand atop Hoseok’s own, “What’s wrong? Isn’t that...good? Jiminie also joined the soccer team, they’ll have each other there. And Taehyungie is in the art club which is right next to the soccer field, they’re all together.”
Hoseok looked up towards Seokjin, “I just...remember when I told you about how Jungkook said he was scared to go to school because hyung and I are vampires?”
“I do.”
“What if…” Hoseok tried not to allow his eyes to tear up, failing, “What if he’s scared because he thinks that because we’re a little different that he can’t be a normal kid? Jin hyung...he’s embarrassed that his appa and eomma are vampires and—”
“Hey, no. He never said that he was embarrassed, right?”
“But what if he is?” Hoseok took a deep breath, staring down towards the red drink, “What if he is embarrassed to have a vampire as his eomma…?”
“Now you’re just being ridiculous.” Seokjin pointed towards Hoseok, “You and I both know that you are the best eomma in the world to that little Jungkookie and he adores everything that you do. He’s just going through those weird teenage years right now, but I know for a fact that he is not embarrassed that you are his eomma.”
Hoseok smiled towards Seokjin, grateful, but his eyes were still not convinced, “Maybe I have to prove it somehow...show my little Jungkookie that I can be normal. That he has normal parents who love him just like everyone else.”
Seokjin took a sip of blood, narrowing his eyes, “Whatever it is you’re thinking, I can already tell you that it’s not a good idea.”
Hoseok smirked a little brighter as an idea started to form, “ Snack day .”
❊❊❊❊❊❊❊
“Regretting your decision yet?” Seokjin asked as he helped Hoseok set out an array of snacks on the team table. “Because I know that I am.”
“Oh don’t be such a downer.” Hoseok shooed at Seokjin, setting out a large bowl of fresh garden strawberries and fruit snacks, “I’m doing this for Jungkookie.”
“Everything you do is for that kid. You’d think Yoongi-ah would be jealous at this point.” Seokjin teased.
“Oh, there are other ways that my Yoongi hyung knows that he’s special.” Hoseok smirked, winking towards Seokjin and giggling when the older vampire groaned.
The bell ringing over by the school building interrupted their conversation, Seokjin crossed his arms, “Looks like the kiddos are going to be coming out soon. Come on soccer mom, let’s get going before they get out here because I know that once we see our boys all dressed up for the game we’re not going to want to leave.”
“First,” Hoseok held up his finger, “I am not a soccer mom.”
“Oh yes you are.” Seokjin chuckled.
“Second,” Hoseok continued, trying and failing not to laugh along with Seokjin, “I’m not leaving, I’m staying to watch Jungkookie's game.”
Seokjin stopped laughing. “You know those games are like two and a half hours, right?”
“I know.” Hoseok nodded, turning his attention back to the snack table, making everything neat and tidy.
“And you do realize that you are a vampire—a relatively young vampire—who can only be out in the sun for thirty minutes at most. We’re cutting it close as it is Hobi, come on, let’s go—”
“I’m staying to watch Jungkookie's game.” Hoseok spoke again, determined, “I’m going to be a normal parent. I’ll be fine, it’s a cloudy day. I’ll show my son that there’s nothing to be afraid of, that he is normal .”
Seokjin paused for a brief moment, “And did Jungkook ask that of you? Did he ever tell you that he wants a normal family?”
Hoseok didn’t answer, fretting with the strawberries.
“Does Yoongi-ah know you’re here?”
“No.” Hoseok looked up towards Seokjin, “So don’t tell him. Please .”
“You know what happens when a vampire is out in the sun for too long. What if the kids or the other parents see and they find out that you’re a—"
“Hello!” An older woman’s voice chirped from behind them, “Wow! The snacks look so good.”
“Hi! You must be Dahyun. I’m Jung Hoseok.” Hoseok smiled, reaching out to shake the mother's hand.
“Oh you’re Jungkook's parent! Well if he hasn’t been the talk of the team, he’s quite a player for his age.” Dahyun chimed.
“You can say that again.” Another woman came waltzing up, “It’s Sana.” She greeted them, “I’m Jun’s mother, and I must say this snack table is so much more healthy than the snacks that Jihyun brought last week.”
“I heard that.” Another mother came stalking up, “At least I drop off my kids to practice on time .”
“Let me introduce you to my Seokjinie hyung,” Hoseok quickly jumped in to avoid any quarilling, “He’s Jimin’s appa, Jimin joined the team with Jungkook recently.”
“Oh I heard. I think my Jun has something akin to a crush on that Jimin boy.” Sana sighed, “They’re too young to date.”
“You can say that again.” Dahyun echoed.
“It’s nice to meet you both.” Jihyun smiled towards Seokjin and Hoseok.
“Same to you.” Seokjin started, wrapping an arm around Hoseok’s own, “Actually, Hobi-ah and I were just heading out—”
“Already?!” Sana squawked, appalled, “But the kids aren’t even out here yet!”
“You’re coming back for the game, right?” Dahyun questioned, confused.
“Well, no.” Seokjin started, as if he was trained, “I have a very busy job and don’t have the time to stay. We have every game of their's recorded and we watch them together as a family afterwards. Cheer extra hard for Jiminie and Jungkookie for us, hopefully we’ll see you all later—”
“But I’m staying.” Hoseok interjected.
“ What —”
“Oh great!” Jihyun clapped her hands together, her smile big, “It’ll be so nice to have someone else to sit with and talk to during the games.”
“ We talk to you!” Dahyun argued.
“It’s not the same.” Jihyun shook her head.
Sana agreed, “It’s not the same.”
Dahyun huffed.
“Will you...excuse us for a moment.” Seokjin spoke, tugging Hoseok harshly to the side, “What are you doing ?!”
“Exactly what I said.” Hoseok crossed his arms, determined, “I’m staying to watch my son, like a normal parent would.”
“But you are not normal!”
“If that’s what my baby wants then that’s what I’ll be—”
“I’m going to tell Yoongi.”
“No! Don’t tell Yoongi—”
“Eomma…?”
Hoseok whipped around to find Jungkook in his oversized soccer jersey, confused. “Ba—I mean—Jungkookie!”
“What are you doing here…?” He asked again, stepping closer, “And you too Jin hyung? Jimin hyung is out on the field already...is...is something wrong?”
“Nothing is wrong.” Hoseok shook his head, smiling, “Eomma is going to stay and watch your game today.”
“Wha— what !?”Jungkook’s eyes grew wide, looking up to the sky towards the clouds then back down to Hoseok, “You—eomma you know a game lasts longer than thirty minutes right? How long have you been outside already?”
“It doesn’t matter.” Hoseok shook his head, his hands resting gently on Jungkook’s shoulders, “Eomma is going to watch you play like a normal parent would.”
“But—” The whistle blowing had Jungkook turning his gaze back towards the soccer field.
“Go on, eomma is cheering for you!” Hoseok encouraged, gently guiding Jungkook towards the soccer field.
Jungkook shared one last worried glance towards Seokjin, then towards Hoseok before the whistle blew again and Jungkook was running towards the field.
“Hoseok.” Seokjin started, using his full name, “Your skin is already starting to glow. I know you can feel it, come on, let's go .”
Hoseok took a trembling breath in, and a trembling breath out.
It was true.
His skin was starting to tingle and he knew that soon it would start to burn and shimmer with a white glow but Hoseok was willing to risk it, to see how far he could go. He had to try .
“I told you, I’m not leaving.”
Seokjin groaned, “You stubborn little soccer mom—”
“ Not a soccer mom.”
“Yes you are. Fine. Be that way.” Seokjin groaned one last time before stalking away towards the parking lot.
Hoseok closed his eyes for a moment, focusing on his breathing.
Inhale,
Exhale.
Inhale,
Exhale.
He could do this.
Inhale—
“Hey! Come on, the game is going to start!” Sana called over towards Hoseok, waving him to join the group of mothers on the small set of stands by the field.
Hoseok walked over.
Inhale,
Exhale.
Was it always this hard to breathe? Hoseok wondered as a flame flickered to life against his skin.
❊❊❊❊❊❊❊
Yoongi was resting, not completely asleep but enough to satisfy his need for a nap.
That’s how they were able to overcome the whole nocturnal thing.
Lots, and lots, and lots, of naps.
And truthfully it wasn’t something Yoongi minded, if that was the cost for being able to spend time with his family then send his sleep schedule into the fire.
But usually Hoseok would join him, and without his sunshine beside him, sleep never did find Yoongi easily.
Yoongi moved to sit up, reaching for his phone on the nightstand. Hoseok had left to drop off Jungkook’s afterschool snack a while ago…
Just then, the phone started ringing and a familiar name illuminated the screen.
“Namjoon?”
“Hyung.” Namjoon sighed, Yoongi could faintly make out Seokjin frustratedly speaking in the background.
Yoongi was already moving to get up out of bed, “What happened.”
“Well, our vampires have gotten into trouble again—”
“Yoongi? This is Jin hyung. And no, I am not in trouble, it's your stubborn little soccer mom vampire that’s being ridiculous! He won’t listen to me!”
Yoongi was already reaching for his keys, slipping his shoes on. His heart was beating in his throat, “ Where is he.”
❊❊❊❊❊❊❊
Hoseok felt faint.
“Oh look at my Jun go!” Sana cheered, “He’s really carrying the team today.”
“Sure, like my son doesn’t carry the team every other time.” Dahyun huffed.
Jihyun waved them off, “ My son is having an off day because of his knee, otherwise he’d be playing better then both of your sons.”
“Um...Hoseok?” Dahyun started, a little hesitant. “Are you alright? You don’t look... well …”
“That was so rude oh my god.” Jihyun nudged at Dahyun.
Sana raised a brow, “Yeah are you...okay?”
“I’m fine.” Hoseok squeaked out.
He wasn’t fine.
Hoseok was on fire.
He wanted to cry—
But the game was half way over and Jungkook was playing so well, he didn’t want to leave. He couldn't.
Except maybe he didn’t have a choice.
Hoseok was blinking and his vision was fading, the soccer field becoming less and less vibrant.
Was the sun growing warmer? It must have been. It must have been—
But Hoseok had to power through, he could be normal, he had to be normal— for Jungkook —
“Are you sure…? Do you have a—uh, partner or something?” Sana reached out to hold Hoseok’s shoulder to keep him from falling over— “Oh my god you’re...you’re burning up…”
“We should call someone for you…” Jihyung started, her expression growing worried, “Dahyun who’s Jungkook’s appa? Is there any way to reach him—”
“ I am. ”
Hoseok could’t tell if he had his eyes open or not, all he could see was a black void when he heard the familiar voice faintly behind him, and felt familiar arms wrap around him.
Hosoek wanted to cry.
And maybe he was—
Maybe Hoseok cried all the way back home.
Maybe he couldn’t stop his sobs, crying out with the mixture of burning pain from his skin and the knowing that he failed as Jungkook’s eomma, as a mother.
It was too much.
“ Drink .” Yoongi’s voice vibrated against Hoseok’s ear, he sounded distressed, worried. Desperate.
It broke Hoseok’s heart even more.
“Please darling... drink , come on, please. For me, for Jungkookie, drink .” Yoongi tried again, commanded.
Hoseok would never disobey his sire.
Yoongi.
It was a struggle to elongate his fangs but once he finally did, pressing them to Yoongi’s neck until he was able to break the skin and—
And a cool wave of moonlight washed over him as he drank from Yoongi.
Hoseok whimpered, feeling small, feeling vulnerable in his lover's arms. Even through all of the pain, Yoongi’s blood, his arms wrapped around Hoseok, there was nothing more comforting. Nothing that set his heart more at ease.
And if Hoseok could tell anything from the way Yoongi’s rapidly beating heart and breath calmed slowly to a steady rhythm, he knew Yoongi felt the same way.
“Darling…” Yoongi started after a while when Hoseok pulled his fang’s back, pressing a kiss to the broken skin that was already beginning to heal. He hadn’t had much, but he needed rest. “Darling what were you thinking ?!” Yoongi’s voice was tired, holding Hoseok close, tightly, “I almost lost you. That is two scares, two close calls that are just too damn close in less than a decade. Darling why... why didn’t you call me? Why didn’t you come home?!”
Hoseok didn’t have many tears left in him, but the subdued pain in his skin left a broken heart in his chest. He whimpered, “I failed our baby…”
“ What ?!” Yoongi reeled back, forcing Hoseok’s water filled eyes to meet his own, “What are you talking about?!”
“He wants us to be normal hyung…” Hoseok buried his face into Yoongi’s chest, “Jungkook wants normal parents, a normal family. That’s why he’s scared...because we’re vampires and we can’t do anything the other parents do…” Hoseok cried, “I can’t even go to my son's soccer game...what kind of eomma am I?”
“Oh darling…” Yoongi sighed, running his hand through Hoseok’s hair. “What makes you think that our Jungkook wants a normal family like that?”
“He told me.” Hoseok’s voice quivered, “He basically told me. The first day of school he said he was scared because we’re both vampires.”
“He did.” Yoongi nodded, “And I talked to him about that, remember?”
“Yes but all you said was that I shouldn’t worry about it!” Hoseok cried harder, “Of course I’m going to worry hyung. Our Jungkookie will never have the life he wants because of us …”
“Darling, slow down.” Yoongi tried to peel Hoseok’s face away from his chest, tried to guide their gazes back together, “Let’s get one thing straight here, Jungkook loves you—”
“But—”
“ No buts.” Yoongi cut Hoseok off, firm, “He loves you and you were the one that gave him a better life then he would have ever had with two drunken parents or an orphanage. You gave him a family and you gave me a family.”
“What good is a family if I can’t even—”
“Don’t you dare finish that thought.” Yoongi shook his head, “Do you not understand how much Jungkook adores you? How much he looks up to you? You’re not doing anything wrong, darling there are no manuals on how to do this right, there are no right or wrongs when raising a family. There is only what you can do, and what feels right.” Yoongi spoke gently, “You can’t watch his soccer game out in the sun, but you can watch the recording of it afterwards, you can cheer him on and drop off his snacks that you insist he needs even when he says he doesn’t.”
“He eats them every time I drop them off.” Hoseok sniffed.
“See? And you drop snacks off before his practices because it feels like the right thing to do, because you want to make sure your son is taken care of, right?” Yoongi started gently, his palm cupping Hoseok’s cheek, “So let me take care of you now, and let me remind you that you’re the perfect eomma for our son. That you’re doing so well, you’re so good, darling.”
Hoseok leaned into Yoongi’s touch, “I didn’t tell you the full truth earlier, hyung. I...I wasn’t just dropping off Jungkookie's snack today…”
“I figured as much darling.”
“I signed up for snack day with Jin hyung.” Hoseok closed his eyes as Yoongi wiped away cascading tears, “I wanted to be a normal eomma for Jungkook. Wanted him to feel like a normal kid, like he didn’t have to be scared that his parents were different.”
Yoongi sighed, “I see.”
“I thought I could last longer, that I could last the whole game. It was cloudy and I just...I thought that if I willed myself enough that I could get through it.” Hoseok’s tears fell a little more heavily, harboring in his voice, “But I couldn't...I just let him down instead…”
“You didn’t let him down.” Yoongi reassured, “Darling, do you know why he said that on the first day of school? That he was scared?”
“No.” Hoseok huffed, “Because you told me not to worry.”
“I did, and lesson learned, believe me, seeing you out there today…” Yoongi’s own voice mirrored Hoseok's, “Let’s just say you can’t blame me if I refuse to let you out of my sight for the next few years.”
“I’m sorry.” Hoseok hid in the palm of Yoongi’s hand, “I’m sorry hyung.”
“Come here,” Yoongi pulled Hoseok closer, back down to his chest, “I’ve got you darling. I’ve got you now and that is all that matters, okay?” Yoongi asked, his answer coming in the form of a gentle nod and hands clutched into the fabric of his shirt.
“Darling,” Yoongi started after a moment, once Hoseok’s breathing had calmed again, “Jungkook is not scared of being...some kind of outcast because his parents are a little different. He’s not scared of us being vampires.”
“He isn’t?” Hoseok sniffed, “But then why…”
“I guess some history class last year talked about the history between humans and vampires.” Yoongi shrugged, absently brushing his fingers through Hoseok’s hair in an attempt to sooth the younger vampire, “He’s afraid of people figuring out that we’re not... normal . Not because it would make him less cool, but because he’s scared of what the people might do to us.” Yoongi confessed, “He doesn’t want to lose us, that’s why he’s scared.”
Hoseok’s head shot up, meeting Yoongi’s gaze, “ That is why he’s scared?! Because...because of that stupid history? That happened centuries ago! Nothing in this world could take me away from my son!”
“I know.” Yoongi smiled gently, a little relieved, “Not even the sun.”
“Oh no...if that’s why he’s scared then I just made it worse didn’t I…” Hoseok sunk back down to Yoongi’s chest, the older vampire's soft hum of a chuckle vibrating against his ear.
“I have a feeling those soccer moms aren’t too suspicious that you’re a vampire. So I think you’re in the clear.” Yoongi comforted, “But please, promise me darling that you will never do something like that again.”
“I promise.” Hoseok sighed, snuggling closer to Yoongi whose arms came to wrap around him easily.
Hoseok fell gently into sleep then, awoken shortly after when the front door opened and Jungkook’s voice yelled throughout the house, “Eomma?! Appa?!”
“In here!” Yoongi yelled from inside their bedroom, Hoseok rubbing his eyes to clear his vision.
Jungkook came stumbling in, out of breath until his eyes landed on both of his parents, safe. A wash of relief flooded over him as he bent over, his hands on his knees as he tried to catch his breath.
“Bab— Jungkookie ! What’s wrong?” Hoseok inhaled sharply, moving to get up make his way over towards his son quickly, only to move quicker then what his body could take, the world spinning faster then he could catch up—
“ Seok-ah !” Yoongi had Hoseok in his arms in the blink of an eye, with a speed that could only be attributed to his age as a vampire. “Darling you still need rest, don’t push yourself so much.”
“Eomma…” Jungkook’s eyes were filling with tears.
Hoseok rested his head against Yoongi’s chest, reaching out his arm for Jungkook, “What’s wrong Jungkookie? Eomma is here, eomma will make it better, please don’t cry.”
Jungkook stepped forward to fall into the hug with his parents, burrowing himself into his eomma’s hold and his appa's chest.
“Your eomma is okay, Jungkook.” Yoongi reassured, pressing a kiss to Jungkook’s head.
“But why did you do that?” Jungkook asked, latching onto his parents, he was crying, “You’re not supposed to be out in the sun like that! I tried keeping an eye on you to make sure you were okay during the game but then I looked up and suddenly you were gone !”
Hoseok hushed Jungkook gently, brushing his hair back the same way that Hoseok would do when Jungkook was a baby, “Eomma is here, your appa helped me, eomma will always be here.”
“But why did you…” Jungkook hiccupped, wiping his tears with the heel of his hand.
“I’m sorry Jungkookie, I just wanted you to feel like a normal kid. I didn’t want you to have to be scared or embarrassed about having vampire parents.” Hoseok tried to sooth, attempting to pull Jungkook’s hands away from his face and wipe away the boy's tears with a gentler touch of his own.
“Your eomma thought that you were scared that you wouldn't be normal because you had vampire parents, Jungkook.” Yoongi spoke, running a comforting hand up and down Jungkook’s back.
“You thought I was scared because of that ?!” Jungkook’s eyes grew wider than they were already. “Because I thought that...no, no eomma I’m scared of people finding out that my parents are vampires! I’m scared that they might do something to you...or take me away from you…”
“Oh Jungkookie…” Hoseok quickly pulled Jungkook close against him again, holding him as tightly as he could muster, with every ounce of strength he had left. Yoongi’s arms coming to wrap around them both, “The things that you learned about in that history class were events that happened centuries ago. The world is different now. I will not lie and say that it is safe for us, to roam about freely stating what we are but...but it is safer. Nothing is going to happen to us.”
“Promise?” Jungkook asked, his voice small, young.
“I promise.” Hoseok nodded, pressing a kiss to Jungkook’s head, “And even if something were to happen, your appa is the strongest vampire that has ever lived.”
“It’s true. I am the strongest.” Yoongi smiled, squeezing the two in his arms until they were both giggling, “And I plan on keeping my family safe no matter what.”
“Nothing will tear us apart, I promise.” Hoseok leaned back slightly, still leaning on Yoongi but he was gaining strength back. “Not even the sun.”
“Not even the sun.” Yoongi echoed, brushing Jungkook’s hair back and pressing a kiss to his son's forehead.
Jungkook smiled up towards his parents, leaning back in to hug them again. “Oh, and eomma?” Jungkook started softly into the embrace.
“Hm?”
“You can call me baby still...if you want.”
Hoseok gasped happily, “ Really ?!”
Jungkook nodded, “Just...not in front of my friends.”
“ Deal .” Hoseok giggled, the setting sun's remnants coloring the sound with the soft moonlight's rising glow.
“Did you win your game, son?” Yoongi asked once they settled Hoseok into bed to rest while the two made their way out towards the kitchen.
“No.” Jungkook sighed, “I was so worried about eomma I wasn’t really on my best game.”
“Well,” Yoongi chuckled as he started the stove, moving to gather ingredients for Jungkook's dinner, “As your eomma would say, we all won because you’re our son. You’ll get it next time, we can practice in the back after you eat your dinner.”
Jungkook’s eyes illuminated with excitement, “Okay! I want to win the next game for eomma.”
Yoongi looked over his shoulder, smiling gently as he watched Jungkook move to the kitchen table, pulling his book bag to the side and setting out his homework.
“Something tells me that you’ve already won, Jungkook.”
