Chapter Text
It was as any other day on earth. Sun shining, Birds chirping, and Phil was enjoying the peace and quiet of the day. His apartment was in order and he was planning on taking it easy for today. Play some Minecraft, make some food, catch up on some shows. There wasn’t much he needed to get done.
But as life does, it stirred something up for Phil to do.
“Green lantern of sector 2814 you are needed on Oa.”
“Ah. No rest for the wicked.” Phil says setting down his mug and rising from his seat. He heads to the back of his apartment to charge his ring. Putting his arm out he concentrates on the energy needed to pull his power battery from the pocket dimension it resides in.
A light begins to flash, faint at first but growing stronger by the second. As a hole appears on the back wall of the room, a deep black surrounded by a green rim. Then out of the darkness the battery floats across the air and into Phil's hand. He holds it out and places his hand in, and begins to recite the oath that completely changed his life 10 years ago.
“In brightest day, in blackest night
No evil can escape my sight.
Let those who worship evil's might,
Beware my power Green lanterns light.”
As Phil recites the oath Green light flows from the power battery to the floor and begins to swirl around Phil. The light grows until it completely surrounds him and as he finishes the light bursts away in blinding color, leaving Phil in a green and white striped hat and green haori over his lantern uniform.
Phil places the lantern battery back into the pocket dimension and walks towards the back door. He stands in his backyard stretching out his arms and readying himself for takeoff, looks toward a small murder of crows that stay near his house and winks. “ Take care of the house while I’m gone, yeah?”
Finally steadying himself Phil summons a pair of shining green wings and takes to the stars.
