Work Text:
Waking up with the sun blaring through the gap in the curtains, y/n rubbed their eyes as they sat up, their attention drawn to the kitchen after realising that their boyfriend had woken up hours before they did - as usual. Swinging their legs over the side, getting up and freshening up, y/n’s still half asleep form waddled into the kitchen, a sleepy wave as Jay chuckled as he made breakfast.
“Someone finally woke up, huh? Thought you’d sleep forever~.” He teased, adjusting his glasses as he smirked. Rolling their eyes and getting themselves a glass of water, y/n brushed their own hair out of their face.
“Very funny, anyway - what’s got you up so early? Apart from just being an early bird?” Y/n asked, a shy smile on their face when Jay leaned closer to press a gentle kiss on their lips. Downing the glass of water as they felt the smile grow uncontrollably, the night owl of the two kept their eyes to the floor, the tiles suddenly that much more interesting. Having finished making breakfast, Jay plated the meals, taking his partner and inviting them to sit with him.
As they ate breakfast in silence - a comfortable silence, there was nothing that could possibly interrupt their mealtimes - y/n put their cutlery down, realising that Jay had still not answered their question. “Baby, did you forget what I said?”
“I didn’t forget, don’t worry~ it’s a surprise!”
“A surprise huh?”
Hours after both had finished eating, y/n had followed Jay outside of their apartment and into the car park, eyes closed as he led them to his car. He’d gotten his license a few weeks back, and since it was Easter break for both students, what better time to take a trip with y/n but now? Standing behind them and removing their hands from their face, Jay snickered as he watched the surprise on y/n’s face.
“Well~?”
“Wait, when did you- how did you- Park Jongseong did you buy a car?!” Looking between their boyfriend and the car sitting in front of them, and back again, y/n face was dressed with a mixture of pleasant surprise and disbelief. They knew he had gotten a license, but there was no indication that he had been considering buying an entire car. Not that they were complaining, of course; Jay was happy with the car, and as long as he was happy, it made y/n happy too.
Conversations about where Jay would use the car turned to talk about if he’d ever taken a road trip, which then turned to a conversation about taking a road trip to the beach. Excited giggles coming from both of them as they packed blankets, snacks for the journey, a polaroid camera and y/n’s notebook, the couple got into the car and began their trip, Jay putting his driver’s license to good use.
The windows’ down as y/n watched the street pass by, they reached for the box of pepero in the back, opening one and nibbling on it. Noticing the way Jay looked over, they snickered to themselves, shaking their head as they reached for one and put it in his mouth.
“I would play the pepero game with you, but I don’t want you to crash~” Y/n teased, biting back a laugh as Jay’s ears flushed red. Turning the music up before their boyfriend could respond, y/n avoided his eagle-like stare, playing oblivious as they looked outside again. Keeping his attention fixed onto the road ahead of him, Jay ‘tch’ed, a smile on his face that only translated into one thing; They’re the love of my life.
“You’re cheeky, you know that?” He asked, raising a brow as he watched y/n continuously tease them, their efforts at making him blush throughout the entire journey working with much success. With a quick shrug, y/n’s features scrunched up as they nodded.
“Mhm~ and you love me for it~”
“That is true~.”
As the destination had grown closer and closer, Jay found himself wondering why it had suddenly become so quiet in the car, y/n’s teasing seemingly done. Looking over as he stopped at a red light, Jay’s gaze melted as he noticed y/n had fallen asleep; the sun in their face. His heart going soft, Jay leaned over and pressed a gentle kiss to y/n’s forehead, brushing the stray hairs out of their face before he continued driving. Switching the music to something a little calmer as the beach came into view, Jay hummed the melody under his breath, his glasses resting on the bridge of his nose.
“Y/n-ah~ wake up. We’re here~.”
“H-huh? Oh - I fell asleep, didn’t I?” Y/n asked, yawning as they rubbed the sleep away from their eyes. Nodding as he got out of the car, Jay helped grab his half of the stuff, while y/n grabbed the other half a few moments later. Walking up to the beachfront, laying the blanket and taking a seat, y/n rest their head on Jay’s chest as they watched the tide come in and out.
“Jay?”
“Yes, y/n?” Looking to y/n as he played with their hair absentmindedly, the Korean-American hummed, tilting his head.
“Let’s take road trips more often, this feels way too comfortable.”
“It really does~”
