They’re Innocent…Right?

Summary:

Class 1-A was a bit confused whenever they heard about the antics from the Izucrew.

But they had all accepted that they were innocent peers, incapable of chaos or intimidation.

Well, that’s what they all believed until they watched the news one day.

OR: What happens when Class 1-A slowly starts to figure out the Izucrew isn’t as innocent as everyone believed? What happens when Class 1-A isn’t as innocent as UA believes?

Notes:

This is basically just me imagining the chaos these students can and will cause.

I also saw that people genuinely believe that the Bakusquad is more chaotic than the group with the attempted murder and the problem child.

This fanfic calls bullshit (even if it’s hardly canon)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Class 1-A had affectionately appointed the Bakusquad as the chaotic group within their midst. They played stupid pranks and laughed loudly. They prided themselves in being sociable and chaotic.

The Izucrew loved their assumptions.

Izuku and Uraraka had been intimately familiar with weaponizing their cuteness; the pair were deadly during spars but everyone seemed to ignore their combined bloodthirst for favoring their determined smiles and airy giggles. They knew their innocence would be assumed and, because of proximity, so would their friends.

Iida had noticed how everyone within the class regarded him as an uptight and law-abiding citizen due to how prone he was to correcting someone’s behavior. Iida had always noticed and been able to correct what others were doing wrong so he took it upon himself to help others with their less-than-legal endeavors when there was a smarter way. After all, if they thought he was upholding the rules and laws, then why would he ignore the clever crimes others couldn’t put together. He knew how his behaviors went unnoticed.

Tsuyu and Todoroki had learned long ago on how to use their bluntness to their advantage. After all, no one would look twice at the two when they asked strange questions or got confused at social etiquette skills. The two were seen as innocent with their views of the world and were ever so level-headed. The class seemed to forget the two could have other emotions rather than indifference.

Shinso and Yaoyorozu were quiet individuals, content with watching their respective classes rather than participating. Yamomo was, at times, too formal with her social etiquette and Shinso preferred the opposite side of the spectrum. Both struggled with self-confidence issues throughout their lives and the class seemed to take their friendship in stride, never questioning how exactly they met. After all, no one would believe them if they said they came from the same middle school.

After the attack on the USJ, Jirou and Shouji seemed to join the Izucrew. No one asked but everyone knew that something had happened during the villain attack. And they were accepted by the rest of the class, everyone blissfully unaware of how quickly Yamomo took control of the situation with Jirou, how Shouji overheard Todoroki freeze someone into a coma since they refused to talk, and no one but Mineta and the detective knew exactly how the ship within the USJ was blown up.

The class understood, to some degree, that the attack had rattled them all but they remained uninformed of how easily the Izucrew accepted the attack. After that day the crew began meeting with one another in their homes going over countless plans and backup plans for when another situation arises. Class 1-A thought the friends were training for the sports festival rather than their lives.

That’s when Koda, Tokoyami and Dark Shadow joined their group and were introduced to their plans, codewords and training sessions. Each student gave their all throughout the following weeks, and even while their teachers seemed confused at their determination and rapid progress, they contributed it to their dedication.

Before the sports festival started, no one in the class questioned why Monoma backed down from his pompous speech when his gaze landed on Midoriya. The class seemed to accept that Bakugo had, once again, screamed someone into submission. The rest of class 1-A relaxed, forgetting about the scuffle and headed to the cafeteria, blissfully unaware of the Izucrew’s absence and the meeting they were holding with the management courses.

Midnight was the first to figure out the Izucrew had planned ahead for the festival. As she explained the rules and spun the wheel, she watched Midoriya look satisfied with the results, shooting a look to the section that held her management courses. She continued on, watching as the group of friends moved along one another as if they had their entire lives and noticed a girl with pink hair from the support course move along the group like she knew what their next movements would be.

Midnight stayed vigilant the rest of the festival, watching with disgust as Mineta tried to get the girls into cheerleader uniforms. She watched with vindictive glee as Yaoyorozu made the uniforms in front of the boy before tossing them to Todoroki who promptly lit up with flames. She watched Todoroki shrug and smirk (just the tiniest thing) before walking off, the girls following along.

She watched in the stands as Midoriya and Iida made their way to the support courses and management courses, trading pieces of paper, blueprints, and money around, like they had known exactly what would happen. Midnight noticed the two make eye contact with her and they smirked before nodding towards her and walking out of her line of sight.

She knew high schoolers weren’t as innocent as people tended to believe but she also knew that class 1-A had subconsciously dubbed their Izucrew as harmless (outside of training of course) and sweet; innocent. Midnight ditched every preconceived notion she had about the group and watched closer, noticing how her students listened with hunger in their eyes when Midoriya mumbled and the general education students quickly stopped glaring in Shinso’s direction after his transfer. She watched as the women she taught slowly relaxed when anyone from the Izucrew walked past, especially Yaoyorozu and Koda.

She started to think of them as the quiet protectors of UA's first years, subconsciously relaxing more around the group. Midnight made more jokes and offered more winks to the group, enjoying their grins and small laughters.

Midnight was the first teacher to be invited to their training sessions. She was the first teacher to understand they were training for their lives and learned their codenames, even receiving one of her own. She noticed how they never addressed each other with their family names and regarded one another as more than friends. She was the first to notice the family that had been created within the UA walls.

Midnight quickly turned into Kayama-san and thrived with her new family.

Class 1-A watched with rapid curiosity as a management student walked up to Iida and discussed something quietly with their class rep before making her way over to Midoriya and laughing with him about something before slipping him a folded paper. They never knew those two knew anyone outside of their class and when they asked, the two just expressed how important it was to know people outside of the class.

Class 1-A noticed, of course, the shared grins of the Izucrew and the snickers coming from Uraraka and Shinso. They watched the group become closer than anyone could hope to understand but that was okay. That was all okay because they were the sweet group that couldn’t help but make friends with everyone.

.

.

.

Aizawa was the next teacher to notice the Izucrew had continued to train harder than usual after school a few times a week. He watched the group solemnly hug each other goodbye before getting onto their trains for their internships. He noticed how quickly they had attached themselves to each other.

He remembers getting a phone call concerning his students, namely Todoroki, Iida, and Midoriya during the Hosu incident. He walked into the hospital room and lectured the three as they held their heads down, trying to mask their small smiles. Aizawa didn’t understand how the three could not care but the police came in then, the chief explaining why they couldn't get the recognition and Endeavor would get it.

Aizawa had to stifle a disbelieving laugh when Todoroki called the man a ‘mutt’ and Midoriya explained the legalities of their actions. He explained how Iida came across Native and sent out a message to their group chat with his location. Midoriya explained that, because of UA's contracts, they were in no legal trouble and he completely understood why the public wouldn’t handle the news well, offering the option of crediting no one.

He watched the chief look towards him, like he was going to get them out of this situation. Rathering then shrugging it off, he stood and cocked an eyebrow before asking the chief why he was discussing this in their hospital room without their guardians present, effectively kicking them out.

Aizawa watched the three have a lengthy discussion in (what seemed to be) a coded version of sign language before turning to him. Aizawa listened intently to the three who discussed what they were training for and if he was interested in joining them.

Aizawa was only mildly surprised to see Kayama at their training session. He enjoyed watching Yaoyorozu and Midoriya make their way around, offering new quirk theories to the others and helping others through basic fighting styles. Aizawa himself started helping the kids with quirkless combat just like Kayama had been doing.

He found himself noticing how Koda carried himself taller throughout the hallways, certain students avoiding his gaze and others offering him genuine smiles. He watched with morbid curiosity as Tsuyu feigned indifference towards another boy who tried to make fun of her appearance before slamming her fist into his arrogant smirk. He watched as Jirou twirled her earjack, standing next to Tsuyu, and asking him how terrible it would be if Tokoyami and Shouji found out about his behavior.

He knew, of course, that his homeroom class had been content with regarding the group as kind-hearted kids filled to the brim with happiness but he had watched Midoriya cock an eyebrow at a general education student, making the other boy briskly walk the other way.

He had watched the faint smirks that graced Shinso and Todoroki’s faces when they watched Mineta notice them in the cafeteria, tilting their heads just so at the general education student.

Aizawa had seen the way people came up to Shouji and asked him for hugs or came to sit and talk with Tokoyami and Dark Shadow about some interesting gossip they had heard. He knew how the management courses laughed with Iida and Uraraka and walked with them to the train station most nights.

He knew the group was much more than anyone in class 1-A gave them credit for. Slowly, he began to get introduced and incorporated to the group's plans and codenames. It hurt to know his first years were terrified for their lives but he couldn’t help but feel pride towards this group; the group that had indirectly placed it upon themselves to help Pro-Heroes for when the situation arises.

He also found pleasure in the class discussions about the Bakusquad’s newest prank and their claims of being the most chaotic group of UA (if only they knew the shit the Izucrew pulled with the police daily). He found humor in the way Dark Shadow had cackled at that, trying to muffle their laughter behind Shouji and Todoroki.

He started to relax as well, unconsciously acknowledging their presence with nods of approval. Aizawa started to find himself within the family they had created, almost close to playing an older brother role. They never outwardly said it but he knew there was a family within their group.

.

.

.

The next person class 1-A realized had become a part of the Izucrew was Satou. The class noticed the group came in earlier than usual and ate breakfasts together all while discussing new theories and ways for Satou to use his quirk. It was interesting to see how quickly Satou grew with his training during his time with the group. Class 1-A, once again, accepted the friendship and ignored the toothy grins Satou and Uraraka seemed to share these days.

And then summer was finally arriving. Everyone knew what had happened at the mall, the bruises not leaving Midoriya’s neck for a week, but no one noticed the determined glint in their eyes. No one noticed how the group began staring at their phones longer or how Midoriya and Jirou seemed to throw themselves in their work, revising and updating plans.

No one was ready for the summer camp. Everyone fought for their lives but everyone also noticed the efficiency the Izucrew had. No one knew exactly what had gone down between Midoriya and Muscular but they all heard the boom that echoed throughout the forest. The rest of the Izucrew knew that meant Izuku was on his way for them.

Aizawa had confused the Wild Wild Pussycats when he told them to announce students can fight back and that it was time for Delta Zero. As soon as the announcement made its way around, the Izucrew ran for their lives, picking up anyone they could and making their way to the camp. They all understood the plan; the plan they came up with in case they needed to use lethal means to get rid of their target while booking it for safety.

Midoriya and Todoroki overwhelmed the flames surrounding the forest, mercilessly decimating the clones of Dabi they came across. They fought for Ragdoll, grabbing her and sending her off with Iida before turning back and trying to grab the rest of the students, explaining Bakugo’s position as a target to Shouji and Tokoyami.

The forest was overwhelmed with animals and the dirt monsters who helped the students and fought alongside Koda. Tsuyu and Uraraka took to the air, expertly flying and shooting Tsuyu’s paralytic secretions onto Mustard before getting close to Toga.

The students fought commendably but everyone knew the Izucrew had incapacitated three separate villians. Everyone heard the anguished cry coming from Midoriya when the villains left, taking Bakugou with them.

Class 1-A noticed how quickly Yaoyorozu and Midoriya came up with a solid plan for getting Bakugou free. They all watched Iida and Jirou as they called a few people from the management course, pulling favors to clean up the PR nightmare that would inevitably occur when someone mentioned Bakugou’s behavior during UA's press conference and asked to show UA and its students in the best light possible.

They all watched on live TV as the group grabbed Bakugou out of the warehouse in Kamino and All Might had fought alongside the Izucrew, the extraction team now out of sight. No one was comfortable with how the group had caught Dabi and Spinner before the rest disappeared within their portal.

All Might and All for One decimated the surrounding area, forcing the Izucrew to move survivors quickly and perform rescue tactics they had only read about. Class 1-A cried for their classmates as they watched the combat group turn into another rescue group as soon as they handed over the other two villains, throwing themselves in the range of fire for the sake of the civilians that hadn’t gotten evacuated.

They had gotten an earful from Aizawa later that night and confined themselves within Todoroki’s room afterwards. The rest of class 1-A watched as the TV showed the video footage they had on the incident with Stain, showing off their classmates and enthusiastically talking about how well the first years have fought for Japan, making speculations on what kind of heroes Japan would see.

The rest of the class sat in silence before freaking out, not understanding the evidence the reporters had been speaking about. The more they thought about it, the more the class slowly came to the realization that the group was a bit more than anyone had expected.

.

.

.

Aizawa watched the TV, mildly annoyed at the reporter’s enthusiasm and the inevitable questions he knows he’ll have to shut down or facilitate tomorrow in the class. Kayama sat next to Aizawa, watching with amusement and concern towards the Izucrew but her disgust towards the reporter talking about the students and their ‘successes’ ate at her.

The two teachers shared a grim look, knowing that the group had plans to up their training for the foreseen future.

.

.

.

In the solace of Todoroki’s room, Midoriya and Iida were on calls that night, explaining and working with the upperclassmen management students with the news coverage. They had Jirou and Shinso’s boyfriend, Kaminari, on social media in hopes that the people of Japan could spin this in a positive light for both them and UA. Yaoyorozu and Shinso were speaking with their families to take care of the reporters and interviews people would inevitably begin asking for, trying to minimize the damage.

Shouji and Koda were working tirelessly that night through their plans and making changes to the codenames they knew the other heroes and Toga had heard. Satou and Uraraka were working together with providing dinner and chiming in where they could. Most notably was when Nedzu messaged Uraraka, asking her for her parent’s construction company information in hopes of giving them the job to rebuild Kamino.

Todoroki was roped into an interview with his father that coming week. With the help of Tsuyu and Dark Shadow, the three came up with a solid outline for him to use against the reporters and their questions expected from them.

Class 1-A was still busy freaking out while Bakugou fled the room, determined to get answers from his childhood friend. Bakugou had always known that Midoriya had the brains to figure this out. As soon as he arrived at Todoroki's room, he burst the door open and was met with chaos. He got pulled through the doorway by Midoriya who had seen him and was still coordinating a PR clean-up? over the phone.

Soon enough, his childhood friend hung up the phone and smiled tiredly at Bakugou. With the entire group there, he asked what was happening and Satou got him some food while Todoroki just led him to the bed to sit on as Tokoyami and Midoriya explained what was happening.

Kaminari just rubbed the back of his head sheepishly when he was questioned, explaining he had known about most of it because they were planning on sharing it all with their class. The group just didn’t expect it all to come out now.

So, to the shock of the rest of the class, when they all arrived at their homeroom in the morning, Bakugou was already there sharing breakfast with the group and barking out laughter at Uraraka’s bold fighting words that promised a deadly spar that night.

The group noticed the confused members of their class and waved them over with a not-so-subtle prompting from Bakugou and began to eat while mingling. As the bell rang, Midoriya and Yaoyorozu made their way to the front of the classroom and explained what they were doing today with Aizawa-sensei.

After that class, everyone had their own codename and were introduced to tentative training plans for the future. After that fateful homeroom, the entire class had become a tightly-knit family, forgoing any squad names.

Mina and Hagurake helped Todoroki with his outfit while Aoyama helped him find small things the public would find dazzling enough to talk about on other social media platforms.

Kaminari and Midoriya worked on all forms of social media while the interview was playing with the rest of the class writing down notable things Todoroki said or did on behalf of his friends and UA. Small groups throughout UA, especially the first years, came out with how protective and strong Todoroki is, speaking freely about the heroics class of 1-A and their kindness.

The UA staff had heard menacing cackling from the principal’s office and paid it no mind (everyone on the staff had their own vindictive streaks when it came to reporters) but they did pay attention to how quickly Todoroki’s interview starting trending; tags and posts about what he was talking about popping up out of nowhere. They all watched in various states of amusement when they noticed the students reprimanding the public whenever someone compared Todoroki to his father.

Afterwards, the work studies program was introduced to the family of 1-A. The students did nothing to hide their glee when presented with a challenge coming from their senpai.

Aizawa himself did nothing to stop his grin when he watched Mirio breathe heavily and Uraraka continued to float their long-ranged fighters, hoping they could get a hit in from the air. Most of the class became frustrated at themselves when they were inevitably taken out, but they still held onto their hope because Midoriya was still in the game.

Aizawa winced when Midoriya allowed Mirio to phase through him and watched intently as Midoriya forced Mirio to lose more breaths while evading. He watched, grinning, when his student asked in feigned innocence if Mirio was okay to continue. Aizawa nearly cackled when Mirio finally passed out from his lack of oxygen.

Knowing he could and watching Midoriya analyze were two very different things but both were just as impressive.

That fight solidified in class 1-A’s minds that they shouldn’t have underestimated anyone that was originally a part of the Izucrew. Especially the one that the group was named after.

Afterall, they’re the ones you really need to watch out for.

OMAKE: Jirou and Iida (After Hosu)

Iida sat at his desk, slumping in his chair and looking thoroughly reprimanded when Jirou took a deep breath after her rant.

“Okay. You look like you know what went wrong now so what do you need from me?” Jirou asked, lowering herself onto his blue-sheeted bed.

“There’s a…small possibility that someone had recorded parts of our fight with Stain.” Iida winced when he caught the disappointed look that was making its way back onto her face.

Needless to say, it took another lecture from Jirou before the duo started wiping every trace of Stain in Hosu that they could that night.

OMAKE: Midoriya and Tsuyu (+ Aizawa)

The ringing of the phone along with the pair of eyes on them were enough to drive Midoriya’s to new levels and he couldn’t help how quickly he latched onto the phone when he heard an annoyed voice ring through.

“What do you want.”

“Umm, Hermes?” Midoriya asked tentatively, licking his chapped lips, grimacing when he tasted the blood from his split lip.

“Izuku?” Aizawa’s voice sounded incredulous. “What the hell are you doing calling me from a random phone? What’s wrong?”

Midoriya just breathed slowly through his nose and steeled himself for a terrible conversation once they got back in the dorms. Afterall, he only had five minutes for his phone call.

“Tsuyu and I might need some help over here. And possibly some bail money.” Tsuyu cringed when Shouta groaned loudly, knowing they were in for it.

“What. Did. You. Do.” He demanded from the two while grabbing his keys.

“You see, kero, someone wanted to attempt to attack ‘Zuku and we defended ourselves, but the police didn’t agree with us.” Tsuyu explained rapidly, trying to make the most of their limited time. She rubbed at her bloody knuckles absentmindly before continuing. “And apparently Tsuki is off tonight.”

Another groan rang through the phone and the pair glanced at each other, silently considering how terrible it would be to stay the night before Shouta started speaking again.

“I’ll see you two in 20 minutes. I swear to high heavens if you guys sent someone to a hospital you’re in for hell training.”

Silence is what Shouta was met with and he just groaned louder before hanging up.

OMAKE: Todoroki and Yaoyorozu (+ A Support Course Idiot)

“Are you sure you need that much material for your hero costume?” Todoroki listened to a boy with dark red hair and matching eyes speak to Momo. He silently contemplated how much trouble he’d be in for setting the boy’s designs on fire when the boy moved closer to Momo and began speaking again. “Honestly, I think the public would prefer more skin.”

Todoroki watched as Momo put her hand behind her back and signaled for Todoroki’s help. And he was all too happy to provide some assistance.

“Hi.” He said blandly to the other boy before turning to address his friend. “Momo, I was having trouble controlling my fire today. Would you be willing to walk with me back to Aizawa-sensei’s class so I don’t burn anything?”

Momo was in the middle of nodding when the boy started speaking again. “I’m sorry but your friend is a bit busy right no- WHAT THE FUCK?!”

Todoroki just fought to hold his smirk back when he looked back at the student’s desk, now on fire. “Oh, that seems to be an issue. Momo?” He addressed her, holding out his arm.

Momo smiled towards him, ignoring the support course student’s cries. “Of course Shoto. We should get you to visit Recovery Girl too.” She took his arm gratefully and they walked out of the lab.

As soon as the doors shut, the pair looked at each other before Momo dissolved into laughter and Shoto finally allowed his smirk to show.

OMAKE: Shinso and Shouji (+ Kayama & Tsukashi)

“Can you explain what exactly happened again?” The detective asked tiredly.

Behind Shinso and Shouji, a store's fire alarms were still blaring and they smiled as sweetly as they could as Hitoshi started talking, hoping they wouldn’t have to drag Kayama into this mess (Hitoshi especially-he was still in trouble for his outing with Uraraka and Satou).

“Well, we were chosen to go grocery shopping for the dorm today.” Hitoshi offered, the detective just staring at him blankly before sighing and pinching the bridge of his nose. Mezou decided to take pity on the man (who was beginning to look too much like Aizawa-sensei for his comfort) and let a mouth on his top arm speak.

“We decided to shop here and there was a small…incident which resulted in Hitoshi running into a fire alarm.”

The detective just seemed to grow more exasperated the more Mezou explained the issue.

“Was the fire alarm accidental?” He asked, making Hitoshi nervous. This was the exact question he was trying to avoid.

“We didn’t mean for the alarm to go off.” Hitoshi nodded as he spoke, hoping he looked like the image of a picture-perfect heroics student. Judging from the detective’s unimpressed face, he didn’t do well with that.

“...right. Let’s pretend that didn’t ring as a lie and I just have you call one of your teachers to pick you up.” The man offered before pausing. “Unless you want to end up giving your statements down at the station.”

Hitoshi paled and nearly crumpled as Mezou just shook his head and, with shaky hands, brought up Kayama’s contact.

“Hello Hecatoncheires~” Kayama sang through the phone, making Hitoshi groan.

“Hey, Kayama-chan…” Mezou said, trying to win some of her adoration before telling her.

“Okay kiddos. Where are you at this time?” Kayama said, obviously seeing through his attempts.

The two just listened as she got her coat and keys around before sighing in unison. Mezou wanted to laugh at his friend’s dejected face and shared a look with him before nodding and giving their best puppy-eyes towards the detective.

Apparently the man was immune because just crossed his arms and smirked.

“‘Toshi and I are in front of the Inageya Market.” Mezou offered, listening to Hitoshi’s dejected sigh when he heard Kayama cackle as she started the car.

“Oh~ You two know what this means, yes?” She asked suggestively. Lucky, they’d trained with her long enough to know she was just teasing them for what’s to come.

“Whip training.” They answered in sync, both internally crying about their soon-to-be sore shoulders and aching arms.

“Whip training!!” She said, a smile evident through the phone. “See you boys soon~.”

As she hung up, Hitoshi straightened himself up and did his best Todoroki-deadpan face towards the detective. “I think we’d prefer the station now.”

The detective simply laughed at them.

Notes:

Explaining some things:

1) I love the idea that Shinsou comes from money but bullying was still bad for him (even more so when people assumed he’d only become a hero through his money and status) so he did go through the gen Ed route. A bit into the story, him and Mineta basically trade places.

2) I like to think Momo and Shoto grew up seeing each other around hero galas and they developed a bit of a bond when they’d have to defend/protect each other (Shoto stealing her away from her family who’s trying to show her off and Momo maneuvering herself to be in between Shoto and Endeavor)

3) I know Tsuyu is blunt but I still think she’d hide her true emotions behind a mask of indifference.

4) Same Jirou but she has a mask of annoyance/sarcasm

5) I made it so Aizawa and Kayama feel different roles than parental because this group really doesn’t need anymore parents but they desperately need someone else to know what they’re going through and play a closer role such as an older sibling

6) I also didn’t want to put a weird amount of responsibility on those two since they’re essentially encouraging the training and behaviors that the Izucrew do and show.

7) Iida and Jirou did get rid of the Stain video before the news and majority of the public did but they decided to release it when everything at Kamino was going down.

8) I know this is a seemingly random chunk of Class 1-A but I feel like these would be the kids to encourage each other while pushing each other harder than anyone else could. They deserve to be kids, yes, but everyone is this group is usually more mature than the rest of the class.

I hope that answers any questions, and be sure to drink water today/tonight!!

Take care readers!!
