Aay’han

Summary:

The diaspora of the Mando’Ade, as recorded by one small clan of survivors.

Notes:

Sooo... the poetry bug bit again? I am trying to write stories, I swear!

Mando’a terms are at the bottom.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

On battlefields among the stars
Lay uncounted kinfolk dead
For they march, one with the stars
And we are left to mourn.

On a battlefield among the stars
Five brothers were left behind
Into the black or among the stars
Our brothers marched without us.

Amongst blood we were reborn
Our honored parent would not leave us alone
Sa'buir gave food, gave home, gave names and souls
Forever they are in our hearts.

Far too soon trouble returned
Kyr'stad raised banners of conquest
Inviting Sith treachery to Manda’yaim
Our farmers and children their price.

Honored parent went, we brothers stayed
Trusted with the defense of our new home
We waited full of fear, and rightfully so
Kyr'stad came in force.

Harsh words of Sa'buir’s fate
Fell from mocking enemy lips
Boasting smugly of their ambush
Kyr'stad demanded the treasures of the house.

No time for grief, only defiance
Making Kyr'stad bleed for every step
Midday to midnight we fought
Pulling back upon the center.

When the deepest sanctum lay breached
Kyr'stad joy turned to horror
Only one brother remained behind
With a stack of bombs and death's own gaze.

Four brothers wander the black between worlds
Remembering always our fallen home and kin
All behind us lost beyond recall
But the future sleeps trusting in our arms.

 Mando’a - English terms

Sa’buir - a compound of a proper name and “buir” which means parent. The main way Mandalorian children distinguish between multiple parents.

 Mando’a - Mandalorian language

Kyr’stad - Death Watch

Manda’yaim - the planet Mandalore

Notes:

I was thinking a lot about Mandalorians and their adoption habits, about the various purges they've endured, and about the stories of those who saw where the wind was blowing.

You see the result.
