Chapter 1: The Knight's Utopia
Chapter Text
The golden doors were large and towering over the armored Knight as he stared at the large lock bound by magic. The door had remained locked for as long as the kingdom had existed, and now it was finally time for it to be opened. The Knight unsheathed his greatsword and raised it high above his head, and with a large and grand slash cut the lock clean in two. The magic bindings faded as the halves of the lock fell to the floor. The door parted open and the Knight sheathed his sword, before he could enter, he could hear frantic footsteps coming towards him. There it was, or rather, there he was, the Prince of Darkness standing before the towering Knight, his eyes filled with rage and a slight hint of terror. The Knight looked down with mild amusement.
“I order you to stand down! That door was never meant to be opened!” The Prince yelled
“And I suppose that you know why?” The Knight replied, his voice cold and stoic, devoid of any anger that the prince had.
“...”
“Why have you fallen silent? Is it because you know exactly what I plan to do once I cross this doorway?”
“Knight, what you’re doing will tear apart the light and dark worlds, I order you to cease!”
“No, I will not. I am above you now, your magic and status mean nothing to me now. Therefore, you have lost your authority over me.”
“But the prophecy-”
“Is blasphemy, a lie told only to prevent me from discovering the vast power that had been kept hidden by your conditioning. Nothing you say or show will stop me from doing what fate had intended for me.”
“Then you leave me no choice, I must stop you by any means, even if it means killing you.”
“You challenge me? Even for a Prince, you think and act like a fool. Any other being with no mercy would’ve killed you before you even uttered a word, I however have been generous to let you spout your feeble orders and pleas, and now you threaten to kill me. Such a foolish move, and a move that will guarantee you death.”
The Prince’s hands balled up into fists as the Knight turned his body towards him.
“I will make you this offer, you can turn back to your empty town and castle and leave me be, or you can join me and together we will create and rule over worlds together, and live as gods.”
“No.”
“No?”
“I refuse to stand idly by and watch you destroy reality, your reign of terror will end here before in even begins.”
“Hm, bold words. Unfortunately for you, you have no chance of beating me, my abilities have far surpassed yours. This is your final warning, back off.”
“Never.” The Prince leapt up into the air and from his hands fired a beam light at the Knight’s head, only for the beam to bend and miss.
“Is that the best you can do?” The Knight said as he lunged forward and delivered a swift punch to the prince’s face, knocking him to the ground. The Prince quickly got to his feet and retaliated with a great fireball that moved quickly towards the Knight, who countered it with his greatsword, unsheathing it with blinding speed and cutting into the flames. Once the flames had dispersed, the Knight looked to where the prince was only to find him gone. The Knight turned behind him to see the Prince with a barrage of smaller fireballs behind him.
“ This ends now! ” The Prince cried out as he waved his hand forward launching all the fireballs at the Knight, they were plentiful and fast moving, it seemed to the Prince that the Knight had no way of dodging or cutting through. Suddenly the fireballs halted right before the Knight. The Prince stood in shock and confusion.
“Like I said, my abilities have far surpassed yours. You had no chance.” The fireballs then redirected towards the prince at a faster speed, the prince with no time to react as the fireballs slammed into him, scorching his body and burning his fur with red and blue flames. The Prince’s body lay on the floor, unconscious and barely clinging to life. The knight walked through the door and then closed it. The Knight now stood in a dark room, a void. He looked towards his greatsword, ancient runes inscribed along the blade. The Knight took hold of the sword with both hands and pointed the blade downward. Raising it up, he stabbed the blade into the dark, and a large beam of light burst from the ground shooting up into the air before transforming into a beam of pure darkness and dissipating. The Knight pulled their sword from the void and dark black clouds starting pouring from the hole made from the blade and began to envelop the voided room and the Knight…
The Prince woke up in unbearable pain, he looked up and saw an orb of light in the distance. He couldn’t walk, let alone stand, but in an act of desperation crawled and reached out towards the orb. He touched the orb and it glowed into a blinding light…
* Beep Beep Beep Beep Be- *
“Dumb alarm.”
Kris awoke to the light shining through the window in their room. They had forgotten to close the curtains. It was a new day, although for Kris, a new day was simply the same thing as yesterday.

Chapter Text
Groggy and tired, Kris pushed the covers away from their slim frame. Their button pajamas were extremely wrinkled from all the tossing and turning they did while sleeping. They stepped off their bed and opened the top drawer in their nightstand and rummaged through the various shirts and sweaters until they found a forest green sweatshirt, and paired it with a fabric dark green and lime striped sweater. In the middle drawer they picked out a pair of brown sweatpants and slipped on black sneakers from under their bed. They were almost about to exit their room when they remembered to grab their phone from the top of their nightstand. They walked out of their room and into the hallway. On their way to the stairs, they looked at themselves in the mirror, they looked comfy. Downstairs, they went into the bathroom where they brushed their teeth, parted their long bangs from their face and splashed some cold water to jolt themselves awake, and fixed their hair so that it was less messy and so that their bangs covered their eyes cast a shadow over part of their nose. The door shut behind them, they looked around the kitchen where their backpack rested on a chair, on the table in front of it was a small plate with a slice of Butterscotch Cinnamon Pie placed in the middle of the plate with a fork already set right by the plate.
“Thanks mom.” Kris said as they slung their backpack onto their back and carefully ate the slice so as to not get their clothes dirty. Once they had cleaned their plate, they got up and walked out the door and into the driveway, Toriel had already left for the elementary school, since they opened up earlier than the highschool. Asriel’s old scooter rested near the door, Kris grabbed the handles and set off to school, riding past the houses where some people were out in the front yards either tending to their flowers or mowing the lawn, they passed the various businesses and restaurants such as QC’s Diner and Sans’, which used to be called Grillby’s Bar and Grill until one day it just changed to Sans’, and they passed the library and elementary/middle school. They stopped at the brown and maroon brick building with a large sign that read;
“HOMETOWN HIGH: Home of the Hawks”
Kris paid no attention to the almost redundant name and slogan as they set the scooter onto the bike rack. Kris pushed open the double doors and was immediately blown with the cold air from the school’s air conditioning. The door closed behind them as they entered the empty halls, Kris got out their phone to check the time, it was 7:55, school didn’t start until 8:15. Kris went up to the bulletin board to check for any upcoming events.
“Hawks Spring Dance… Town Festival… Standardized Testing.” Other than the festival, nothing really interested Kris, they knew that they would have to go to the dance, as Toriel would be one of the chaperones for it, and testing was self explanatory. Kris turned to the left hallway and walked to his homeroom at the end of the hall. Grabbing and twisting the knob, Kris was greeted with even more silence. There were a few students in their seats, Catti was on her phone probably texting, Noelle was reading what looked to be a pretty thick book, Berdly was right next to her scribbling stick figure drawings in a notebook. Temmie was just staring at a painted egg, and Snowy was sleeping. The desks were arranged so that there were two rows of desks, each row having eight desks which were grouped into pairs, which was strange as the desks are usually seated into rows of four with all the desks separated. Kris sat on the back left row and put their backpack to the side. After a minute or two, Alphys entered the room with a whole stack of papers clutched tightly to her chest as she made a brisk walk to her desk at the front of the classroom. She dropped the papers on the desk with a loud bang, which woke Snowy up with a jolt.
“What the hell!?”
“Language Snowy!” Alphys said
“Hell ain’t a bad word! You just woke me up from my nap!”
“Just watch what you say next time, please?” Alphys sighed as she sat down on her chair as Snowy went back to napping. Kris put on their hoodie and rested their head on the desk, looking at the open door that Alphys forgot to close to see who would come in next. One minute passes, Jockington and Monster Kid walk into the room. Then Pyrope, Whilliam, and Freddie walk in rambling about gossip and vacation plans. About five minutes before class starts, Hallow walks in with an old fashioned burlap sack that he used as a backpack, and a few seconds after Maddie and Chevy walk in, with Maddie closing the door behind her. A few minutes later the bell rings, the door suddenly flies open with Maddox rushing into the room yelling and insulting their alarm clock.
“Screw my damn alarm clock! Useless piece of garbage!!!”
“Maddox! Please lower your voice!” Alphys shouted. Maddox went quiet and sat down as Alphys began to sort out the papers that she set on her desk earlier while everyone else got out their books and pencils. Once Alphys got her desk situated she turned to the class.
“Alright, bell’s rung. Good morning class, I hope you all had a great weekend-”
“Did NOT.” Maddox said, cutting off Alphys
“O-oh, I’m sorry that it wasn't, Maddox.”
“Better be for that homework paper.”
“Ok… Anyways, as we are approaching the end of the Astronomy unit and the beginning of Spring Break. So this week, your final assignment for the Unit will be a group project on a celestial body or space related phenomena of your group’s choosing.”
Most everyone except Berdly, Noelle, Temmie, and Kris sighed as now they actually had to do work before break, and a project on the hardest unit yet no less.
“Now, pick your partners, remember only two per group! Except for one specific group of three we always have.”
Everyone got up and beelined to their partner of choice, Catti and Jockington, Berdly and Noelle, Monster Kid and Snowy, Temmie and “Eg”, Maddox and Hallows, Chevy and Maddie, and finally the group of three Freddie, Whilliam, and Pyrope. Kris was left to their own. Susie was nowhere in sight, and to be honest Kris wouldn’t blame her if she decided to skip. Still, Kris needed a partner, but with everyone in a group, there would have to be two groups of three. Kris looked around the room seeing who was willing to be in a group of three, which eventually came down to Catti and Jockington, Noelle and Berdly. Kris approached Catti, who was texting at near light speeds with a stoic expression on her face.
“Hey, Catti-”
“Taken.”
Kris turned to Jockington, who was using his tail to draw crude soccer balls all around a piece of paper.
“Yeah, sorry Kris.” Jockington said
“It’s fine.”
Kris walked away from their desks and headed towards Noelle’s. Kris was a bit on edge, as Noelle sat next to Berdly, who was an annoyance to literally everyone in class. Noelle was reading a book when she looked up and saw Kris walking towards her desk.
“Oh! Hey Kris!” Noelle piped up
“Forgot your pencil again? Do you need to borrow one of mine?”
“Um, no. Not really, I was just wondering if maybe we could be partners.”
“Oh! Well I already have a partner, but I could ask Alphys if there can be another group of thre-”
“Absolutely not!” Berdly protested as he looked at Noelle as if she just confessed to a murder.
“Well why not?!”
“Kris, while admittedly more tolerable than others, is simply not up to our echelon of academic intelligence!”
“Well, I for one think it’s a good idea.” Noelle said as she raised her hand
“Ms. Alphys-”
“No! Keep quiet! I don’t wanna fail!” Berdly said as he covertly tried to put Noelles hand down while frantically looking at Alphys, then back to Noelle.
“Berdly! Stop it!” Noelle snapped at Berdly as they both were now struggling while Kris is just watching, unsure of what to do but just stand there like a statue
“Noelle? What did you need to ask?” Alphys suddenly interrupted their struggle as both parties immediately returned to their normal positions.
“O-oh, I was going to-”
“She was just going to say how beautiful your glasses look today.” Berdly cut Noelle off, while having a smug, cheeky, shit eating grin on his face.
“Oh, well, why thank you, Noelle!” Alphys said
“A-actually, I was g-going to say.” Noelle stuttered through her words, as she was slightly embarrassed, mostly by Berdly, in front of a teacher.
“What was that Noelle?”
“I-if Kris c-c-could j-join-”
“Noelle, can you please speak up ?”
*WHAM*
The commotion immediately stopped, as everyone’s eyes now gravitated to the doorway. The door looked like it had a big dent in it, which blended in with some other dents that were left on the door. The door had been opened with such force that the handle was now buried into the wall. Large footsteps could be heard, as a large, stocky, purple lizard walked into the room. The room was now dead silent, everyone had a look of slight terror as soon as they gazed upon the monster.
“O-oh, hey S-Susie.” Alphys said, her voice now almost overflowing with pure fear of Susie.
“... I’m late, aren’t I?” Susie spoke, no trace of remorse for being late or really any emotion, just monotone.
“Oh! Of course n-not! We were actually just a-about to start so you’re right on time!” Alphys lied, Susie was very late, but anything to avoid a possible ass thrashing from Susie.
“We’re picking partners f-for the group project and…” Alphys looked around the room and spotted Kris, who was standing alone between two rows of desks.
“Y-you’re partnered with Kris!”
“... alright” Susie said as she made her way to her desk beside Kris’ desk, no backpack or anything, just her. As Alphys, with shaking hands, ordered everyone to return back to their normal seats, Kris’ mind raced through the thought of someone quiet, and reserved like them being partnered with the school bully for the whole week, it didn’t seem real.
“Alright, so I’ve already taken attendance, now I will begin the lesson.” Alphys said as she turned to the chalkboard, searching on the railing for the chalk, she looked around in confusion as she couldn’t find the chalk anywhere.
“Uhh, have any of you seen the chalk?” Alphys turned to the class and looked around, everyone had a confused look on their face.
“This is the t-third time I've been missing chalk these two weeks, and you know I can’t start class without chalk!” Still, everyone was confused as only the ventilation in the room could be heard.
“A-alright! How about this? If nobody speaks up, then everyone gets in trouble!” Even after this threat, nobody even said one word.
“Come on, anyone?”
“Oh wait! I think they store extras in the supply closet, you could get them in there.”
“Thank you, Noelle!” Alphys breathed a slight sigh of relief
“Susie, since you were late- I mean the last to enter the room, why don’t you go and get the chalk?” Alphys said, her face now fixed into a nervous smile as Susie looked up from resting her head on the desk.
“Fine… Whatever.” Susie got up and walked out of the door and yanked the door shut, which Alphys just noticed she forgot to close, there was now a crater where the doorknob was. Still having a nervous smile, she looked at Kris.
“And Kris, could you go with her, just to make sure she a-actually gets the chalk?” Alphys asked, fixing her shirt sleeves from all the sleeve fidgeting. Kris, without a word, stands up and walks to the door, closing it behind them on their way out. When they looked out on the hallway, they saw Susie standing in the middle, her back turned from them. Kris stood in silence, wondering why she was just standing there, then they saw her reach into her pocket and pull out a tiny white cylinder, chalk. Susie raised it up to her mouth and with one chomp, eats the chalk whole. Kris was stunned, not that she stole the chalk, but seeing someone eat chalk like it was just a morning snack, that’s when Susie turned around and spotted Kris staring at her.
“Oh, Kris…”
“...didn’t see you there.”

Chapter Text
As soon as Susie fixed her gaze on Kris, the human remained silent, not responding or moving a muscle. Her golden eyes looked straight into Kris with a piercing glare. Susie’s face was casual, almost too casual considering she had just wolfed down an entire stick of chalk like it was nothing.
“Hey, you didn’t see anything suspicious, did you?” Susie questioned Kris. They remained speechless, just staring at Susie without any sort of visible expression other than indifference. Susie waited impatiently for an answer, as silence reigned in the halls
“You can’t say? Fine.” Breaking the silence, Susie begins to slowly walk towards Kris. The human walked back, keeping their distance from Susie. The human was eventually cornered, being trapped between the lockers at the end of the hall and Susie. Kris looked up at her as she looked down at them, her face still retaining an all too casual expression.
“Kris…” Susie said, her eyes now taking on a more sly and almost mischievous look. Kris was still silent, it seemed that for as much pressure that Susie was putting on them, they wouldn’t speak a single word. Susie then decided to try getting physical to make them talk, lifting her arm and putting her hand on Kris’ shoulder. Kris fixed their eyes on her hand, her grip not tight enough to hurt, but it was incredibly firm.
“...hey…can I tell you a secret?” Kris was now slightly intrigued. What secret could Susie of all people want to tell, and why of all people did she choose to tell them? They looked up at Susie, who was still looking at them with that same expression. That was when Susie suddenly lifted Kris up by the shoulder and slammed them up on the locker. Susie looked at Kris with an almost sinister expression, her yellow, knife-like teeth clenched shut into a dreadful smile.
“Quiet people piss me off.” Susie presses Kris further into the lockers. Kris could already feel that their back was probably bruised, as they felt pain shoot through their body.
“Just because you’re not saying jack shit doesn’t mean I can’t read you like a damn book.” As Susie talked, she dug her fingers deeper into Kris’s skin, until she could almost feel her claws pierce skin.
“I know exactly what you were thinking dammit, you were probably jumping for joy in your head; “Oh man, Susie ate ALL the chalk, she had her last chance! Now she’ll finally be expelled and everyone will be happier with her gone. Good riddance!” Susie said in a mocking tone. Her teeth now audibly gritting in anger.
“Don’t even act surprised. I know everyone in this shithole thinks the same thing. Everyone wants it, everyone wants me gone. So congratulations, you got me, I’m done. Now you can celebrate with everyone else knowing that I’m gone for good.” Susie’s breathing becomes more erratic, and heavy, but then it calms down into a regular pace as her teeth relax into a sinister grin.
“Actually, I don’t think you will be celebrating. I still haven’t forgotten about the Apple incident, remember?” Kris was quiet, even in excruciating pain from having their shoulder being pressed into metal lockers.
“...And it seems like kinda a lame ass reason to get expelled over some old chalk.” Susie’s eyes began to widen as her golden eyes now almost glowed through her hair.
“If I’m gonna go down, how about you go down with me for some real carnage?” Susie’s grin widened as she was now staring daggers into Kris.
“Kris, how do you feel…
...About losing your head?”
Susie then opened her mouth, her maw getting wider and wider as she brought Kris’ head closer. Kris could see all of her sharp and deadly teeth that looked as if they could bite through hardened steel and diamond. Her mouth was opened so wide that the back of her throat was visible. It seemed that’s where their severed head was going to go in a few seconds. Up until…
*THUD*
“Nah.”
Susie let go of Kris, as they fell to the floor. Susie turned away from Kris as they began to get up to their feet.
“You’ve got a good mom Kris, a real nice woman. It’d be a shame to see her cremate her child.” Susie said, turning to face Kris.
“Alright, let’s get this over with. We’re gonna go to the closet, get the chalk, haul ass back to class, and then you’ll do the whole project for us. Sound good?” Kris barely had the chance to even think of something to say before Susie cut them off.
“Y’know, don’t even bother. In case you didn’t know, your choices don’t matter, they never have.” Susie speed walked down the hall. Kris followed them, their shoulder was incredibly sore from the whole ordeal. They made their way to where Susie was waiting rather quickly. Susie looked at them with a slight smirk.
“You’re pretty fast, aren’t you? Then again, you probably run away from a lot of things, wimp. Now c’mon, freak.” Susie said as they both walked forwards to the supply closet. For a closet, the door seemed way out of place compared to the rest of the school. The double doors were large, and a strange purple color with a thick black frame that didn’t match the walls or any of the other doors of the school.
“Damn, here already. And just when I thought we were having fun.” Susie grabbed both of the door knobs and twisted them, pushing the doors wide open. It was pitch dark, like the room was an endless void. Even stranger, the darkness seemed to spill out from the room, as Kris and Susie’s surroundings became darker, until it appeared like it was almost night.
“Oookay, I must be seeing things, because there is no way a room can be THAT dark. You seeing this too Kris?” Susie looked at Kris, who took one step back from the room, indicating that Susie wasn’t hallucinating, Kris could see the darkness too.
“H-hey, come on Kris, aren't you gonna go in?” The human took another step back. Susie started to sweat a little.
“Well, if you're gonna be a pussy and not go in first then I’ll… I… We’ll go in at the same time!” Susie shouted as she grabbed Kris’ hand and led them both into the room.
“See, that wasn’t so hard. Now, where’s the light switch for this dark ass room?” Susie began to wander around the closet, feeling around the room for a light switch. Kris looked down at the floor, aside from the dim light coming from the doorway, there was very little that could be seen aside from the floor, which had old wrinkled papers strewn about.
“Huh, no light switch, guess it must be further back?” Susie pressed on further into the closet. Kris began to follow, seeing as how there was nothing else in the room. This went on for two more minutes…
“Uhh, Kris. I think this closet might be broken. I haven’t found a single light switch, let alone some damn walls.” Susie paused for a second.
“Welp, guess we’re done here. If Alphys wants her precious chalk, she can haul her ass here to get it herself. I say we did a good enough job, let’s go freak.” Susie and Kris start to walk back to the doorway, the sound of the paper underneath their feet crunching. They were just about to reach the door when all of a sudden, the door shuts right in their faces, leaving them in complete darkness, save for the papers, which for some reason were still clearly visible.
“What the fuck!? Hey, asshole! Whoever you are, this shit isn’t funny, let us out!” Susie banged on the door. Continuing to shout for whoever did trap them in this broken closet to let them both out. Kris just stands there, the chaos of everything was overwhelming as they try to make sense of the situation as Susie keeps pounding the door with her fists.
“Okay chucklefuck, I’ve had it! Let us out or I swear to god I’m gonna come out there and rip you LIMB FROM FUCKING LIMB-” Susie’s shouting was suddenly cut off as both her and Kris felt the floor under them, shake? The duo looks down to find the papers they’re standing on shaking as a low rumbling sound fills the void.
“K-Kris? What the fuck’s going on?!” They both back away from the door, before suddenly the papers begin to drop into the void, never to be seen. The duo run in the opposite direction as the floor continues to fall from under them and chase them into a dead end. As they stood on the little flooring they had, they looked into the dark abyss that awaited them as they both felt the floor under them disappear, as they both went falling and falling into the abyss, dipping into the darkness of the unknown…
Notes:
I apologize deeply for the long wait for this chapter. I felt very burnt out after finishing that chapter, that on top of a whole new school (which is miserable and I hate it), a lot of mental strain. I just needed to take care of myself first before trying to continue this. As for the future of this fanfic, rest assured it's not ending, nor do I plan to discontinue it, this has been a bit of a passion project that mainly spawn from the scarcity of good Krusie fanfics that I liked, so I decided to write my own and hope that others will enjoy it. So for those who follow this work, it's not ending, however I can't promise that it'll have regular timely updates, however I am very sorry it took so long for this, and I'll try to work on not having you all wait so long for chapters, as I really do appreciate the people who read this, give this kudos, and comment. It shows that at least some people at least read my works, and enjoy it to some extent. As for other news, I may branch out into other fandoms to write fanfics for, I've mainly set my sights on Chainsaw Man, as there are a few ships I would want to make works about as well (Mainly Reze/Denji, and Makima/Denji). How those fanfics will come along, and how they will affect the frequency of this work, I don't quite know yet, but hopefully I'll be able to provide sufficient content both for this work, and upcoming works. For now, thank you very much for reading this, and hope to look forward for more Oblivion, and some Chainsaw Man love if you fancy that as well. Your hits, kudos, and comments mean a lot to me <3
