Work Text:

Steph and Alex were running around the park barefoot. Steph holding Alex’s hand, pulling her around. The sun was slowly setting, leaving the two girls in a warm orange and pink glow. But Steph’s golden aura was almost blinding to Alex. Her girlfriend, so happy to just be in Alex’s presence. Alex felt Steph’s emotions pouring over her, causing Alex to feel them too. Even if she didn’t have her empathic powers, seeing her girlfriend so happy and giddy made Alex feel happy too. She loved having Steph in her life. Occasionally she would wonder what would have happened if she had never moved here. If she decided to leave after Gabe died or after everything that happened with Jed. But she didn’t and she’s glad she decided to stay.
Suddenly, Alex was jerked to a stop. Steph pulled her in by the waist. Then, she started swaying, humming something Alex didn’t recognize.
“What are you thinking about?” Steph asked, pulling Alex out of her reverie.
“You.” Alex replied softly. Smiling.
Steph smiled at the response, her aura glowing brighter.
“I do have a question for you.” Alex looked up at Steph through her eyelashes.
“Shoot.”
“Why are we barefoot in the park?”
Steph looked down at their feet and then around their surroundings. “Huh. I don’t know.”
“What do you mean you don’t know?” Alex laughed.
“I don’t know!” Steph laughed and grabbed Alex’s hands in her own.
“I love your smile and the way you light up the whole park with your golden aura.”
Steph’s aura started to turn pink as she blushed and looked down. “Stop it.”
“I love making you flustered.”
This made Steph more flustered. “I hate you.”
“Mmmm. I don’t think so.”
“You’re wrong,” Steph grabbed Alex’s neck and pulled her in, their lips brushing together. “I do hate you.” Then Steph kissed Alex.
Everytime they kissed, Alex swore it was better than the last. Devouring the feeling. She loved it. Steph’s pink and gold aura rubbing off on her, causing her to feel the same emotions as Steph.
I don’t actually hate you. Steph thought knowing Alex was most likely reading her right then.
“I know.” Alex smiled, breaking the kiss.
Steph punched Alex’s arm.
“I can’t help it when you’re this close to me and practically bleeding joy.”
“Come on.” Steph leaned away, pulling Alex back to the shore of the lake where they left their shoes.
Steph hopped around, struggling to get her hightops back on. Alex laughed at the sight causing Steph to blush again.
“Stop laughing at me.” She finally got her shoes on and grabbed Alex’s wrist once again and drug her around.
The sun had already set so there were only street lamps illuminating their faces. Steph slowed down letting Alex catch up to her as they started walking side by side, fingers intertwined. Steph swayed their connected hands as they walked down the sidewalk back to The Black Lantern.
“You’re so happy tonight.” Alex mentioned.
“Mhm.” Steph hummed.
“Why?”
Steph stopped, grabbing Alex’s other hand. “Because I love you, stupid.”
Alex’s brain stopped functioning at those words. Steph had never said that to her.
Suddenly, Steph’s aura started to change from pink to purple. Anxiety tinged into her thoughts.
Shit. Shit. Shit.
This brought Alex back to Steph. Looking into her eyes, Alex realized she really meant it.
Alex cupped Steph’s face with her hands. “You really mean it?”
Steph came out of her thoughts. “What?”
“Do you really mean what you said?”
Steph stared at her for a bit longer, swallowed, then nodded. “Yeah,” she let out the breath she had been holding. “I really do.”
Alex let out a giggle. “I love you, too.” She kissed Steph softly following the words.
Steph started to giggle too. Their giggles turned into contagious laughter.
“Come on.” Alex dragged Steph the rest of the way to the bar.
Alex opened the door and Steph followed her in. Ryan was standing at the bar and turned to see the two as they entered. There weren’t many people left at the bar. Charlotte was sitting, talking to Ryan.
“Hey, guys.” Charlotte smiled.
“You two are very smiley today.” Ryan noticed.
“Ugh yeah. Char, did you give her something?” Alex asked.
Charlotte shrugged. “No. She hasn’t bought anything from me since- well since before you came.”
Alex turned around and stared at Steph. Then she turned to glance at Ryan who shrugged.
“Okay then. We’ll be upstairs. Good night.”
“Good night?” Ryan questioned as Alex dragged Steph up the stairs.
Alex opened and then closed the door to the apartment as soon as Steph was inside. “Okay, what the hell?”
“You think I’m high?” Steph questioned. Probably louder than she meant.
“I don’t know.” Alex walked towards the bed, Steph following her and sitting next to her.
“For the record, I’m not.” Steph laughed. “I think the way my emotions affect you… well, your emotions are affecting me. It’s intoxicating.”
“Sorry.”
“Don’t be sorry. It feels good. Plus, you shouldn’t be sorry about something you can’t control.”
Alex nodded. “So… you quit shopping at Charlotte’s when I showed up?”

“I would get high from time to time. Sometimes questioning why Gabe kept me here or why I was still here. I was kinda in a bad place after Izzie. But the first time I saw you, at the record store, you took my breath away. When you came to Haven, it was like nothing from before had happened. I was so focused on you. Like I said, you’re intoxicating. I feel high just from being around you.”
Alex smiled, hugging her girlfriend. “I love you so much. I’m glad you decided to stay.” “Me too.”
