Chapter 1: Fuzzy - Waterparks

Chapter Text

Izuku Midoriya stood in front of the crowd, grateful for the fact that he was in front of the barricade instead of being crushed behind it. Next to him was his best friend, a brown haired girl named Ochako Uraraka. She was holding her camera, steady as always, and taking photos of the band on stage. The two of them were students at UA's Academy of the Arts, and they were currently in one of the school's large auditoriums. On stage was a popular band on campus, formed by six of their fellow students. The band itself had only been together for about half a year, but they were already one of the most popular groups to have formed in this school. Everyone wanted to see them perform. Midoriya was never one for large crowds, but he couldn't seem to quell his curiosity about the band. The whole reason he was a broadcasting major in the first place was because of his constant need to know things. He was a huge fanboy to top it off, and he had always wanted to interview his favorite celebrities so why not? Thus, his fanboy nature had lead to him follow his best friend to the performance. She was a photography major, and she was able to get them into the show by using an assignment as an excuse. Thus, the two of them had media passes and the right to stand at the foot of the stage. Midoriya was supposed to do an interview with the group later on, while Uraraka was there to take photos of the whole thing. It was a joint project for the school's blog. Midoriya had done his best to collect information beforehand, learning everything he could about the group. It wasn't hard per-se, but the group was so popular that it was hard to tell what was true and what was rumor. He stared up at the band with wide eyes, scanning the stage and taking it all in. He was enjoying himself more than he thought he would, this wasn't his usual taste in music after all. As he watched, he couldn't help but feel his heart rate increase. Most people would be focused on the lead singer, Kyouka Jirou, jumping around and showing off her wide vocal range. Or maybe they'd be focused on the two energetic guitarists, Ejiro Kirishima and Denki Kaminari, who were doing tricks and engaging with the crowd. Maybe they'd be focused on the brooding, quiet bassist, Hanta Sero. Or maybe they were interested in the synthesist, Mina Ashido, who had a beautiful smile and a friendly personality. But not Midoriya, no, he was focused on the person at the very back of the group. The boy who looked like he was ready to murder his own drum set- if that were possible. The person who, most people, wouldn't even notice without the raised platform and the cameras. Katsuki Bakugou. The boy was nodding his head along to the music, beads of sweat bouncing off his spiky blonde hair. His vermillion colored eyes glinted with excitement as he smashed his sticks onto the drums, the veins in his arms flexing as he did. Every now and again he would look up and flash a wild smile. And, when the light hit his face at the right angle, you could see that hidden between his sharp teeth was a shiny, silver tongue piercing. Midoriya couldn't help but blush as he stared at the drummer. He was gorgeous.

"Hey, you okay Midoriya?" Uraraka yelled into his ear, hoping he could still hear over the blaring music. Midoriya jolted out of his daze and looked over at her. He flashed her a shaky smile and nodded, trying his best to hide his blush. Uraraka pouted but brushed it off, blaming it on the heat emitting off the crowd. She grabbed her friend's hand and pulled him to the other side of the stage, changing angles for her camera. Midoriya sighed and shook off his thoughts, doing his best to not stare at the beautiful boy anymore. He needed to focus on the task at hand, which meant that he needed to watch the performance carefully and review it honestly. It was nearly impossible to concentrate throughout the whole thing, but the performance eventually came to an end. Just as the green haired boy was about to let out a sigh of relief, he remembered the interview. An up close view at the man he was gawking at. He drew in a shaky breath and rubbed his face. This, was going to be a long interview.

"You're Izuku Midoriya and Uraraka Ochako, right?" As the crowd dispersed, a tall woman with a high ponytail made her way over to the two friends. Uraraka smiled and stuck her hand out.

"That's us! Nice to meet you," the woman shook her hand happily, "you're Momo Yaoyoruzu right? You're the one who helped set up the interview?"

"Yes that's me! Nice to meet you as well. I'm the band's unofficial manager at the moment." Midoriya swallowed and held out his hand with a nervous smile.

"Izuku Midoriya," he said a little too loudly, "thank you for having us!" Yaoyoruzu shook her head and laughed.

"I should be thanking you two for reaching out!" She told them, crossing her arms with an amused smile, "These guys are pretty popular, but their PR skills are terrible! I'm just hoping you two can help them get along with their fans a little better." Midoriya smiled in understanding. While he was investigating, he learned about the rumors circulating the band members. Most of them were quite negative, which was surprising to him. The band was so well-liked that he had assumed people would only have nice things to say.

"Don't worry Yaoyoruzu," Uraraka reassured, "we promise to do our best!"

"Thank you. I'll show you to the green room," she gestured behind her, "the members should be waiting for you there." She then lead them backstage, taking a few turns before stopping in front of a blue door. On it was a piece of paper taped to it reading "Demolition Kids"- indicating that the band was using it at the moment. Yaoyoruzu knocked on it a few times before turning the knob and leading the two inside. Midoriya gulped, trying to calm his nerves. He put on a shaky smile and did his best to greet the members.

"Hello everyone!" Uraraka started, "I'm Ochako Uraraka and this is my friend Izuku Midoriya. We're here for the blog interview!" The members turned their attention to the two new faces in the room. The first one to speak was the girl known as Mina. She flashed a bright smile and skipped over to them, her dyed pink afro bouncing along.

"Hiya," she gave the pair a wave, "nice to meet ya! I'm Mina Ashido, but Mina's fine!"

"Hello," Midoriya gave her a friendly smile back, "nice to meet you Mina! And the rest of you are..." he trailed off, then pointed to them one by one. "The one with yellow hair and a lightning streak is Denki Kaminari. Then you with the red hair are Ejiro Kirishima. Kyouka Jirou is the lead singer with purple hair. The one with black hair is Hanta Sero, and the blonde is Katsuki Bakugou! .... Right?" Midoriya rubbed the back of his neck, slightly embarrassed at his fanboy nature. He couldn't help but be excited in this situation, especially now that he had found himself to be a fan of them. More like a fan of Bakugou, he thought to himself. Kaminari offered the boy a smile and stood up.

"Woahh you really know your stuff huh?" He wiggled his eyebrows playfully, "You a fanboy?" Uraraka giggled, causing Midoriya to blush.

"He's a pretty big fanboy actually," Uraraka teased her friend, "I guess your performance today turned him into one of your fans, too!" The band broke out into smiles. Well, all of them except for Bakugou. He was sat back with his feet up on the coffee table in the center of the room, staring quietly at the pair in the doorway. Midoriya discreetly stared back. Though it wasn't discrete enough since the blonde met his eyes almost immediately, smirking as he did. Midoriya tensed and shifted his eyes back to Mina, who was still standing in front of them. Yaoyoruzu cleared her throat.

"Well then," she started, "I have some things to do so I'll leave you all to it. Please don't be stupid you guys. And be nice Bakugou!" She glared at the group, stoping to stare at Bakugou for a second longer than the rest. The blonde rolled his eyes and scoffed, ignoring her. She sighed and shook her head, giving a final goodbye before leaving the room. Mina jumped into action, offering the pair a seat.

"So," Midoriya started, "I'll be the one conducting the interview! Uraraka is a photographer, and she'll be taking some pictures as we talk if that's alright?"

"Please," Uraraka said, "just act naturally! I got some great shots of you guys on stage earlier, but I'd love some more casual photos too." The band agreed, and she pulled out her bag to prepare her equipment. Midoriya turned back to them, pulling out his notebook and resting it in his lap before continuing.

"Is it alright if I record our conversation?"

"Of course! We don't mind at all, Midoriya!" Kirishima answered for the group, and Midoriya smiled gratefully before pulling out his phone and setting it on the table between them.

"So," he started, "the first thing I'd like for you to do is to give a little introduction! Tell me about your band. When people hear 'Demolition Kids', what do you want them to think of?"

"Well honestly," Jirou started, "the whole point of us making this band was to have fun, so that's how we'd like people to see us. Like a group of good friends who love music, and like to mess around."

"More than anything," Kaminari chimed in, "we want people to get excited when we perform! We want them to jump around and scream along with us, and we hope that by the end of it they can say it was the best night of their lives!" Midoriya smiled at their enthusiasm.

"What exactly is the meaning behind the name 'Demolition Kids'?" he continued, "How does it fit into your concept?"

"We actually based the name off of one of our favorite songs!" Mina informed him, "It's called Demolition Lovers by My Chemical Romance."

"The song's instrumentals are pretty dynamic," Sero elaborated, "and it's basically about a Bonnie and Clyde style romance. Two people in love, are desperately trying to escape the law, and society in general. Though we aren't lovers, the six of us are similar to the people in the story. We wanted an escape, a reason to run from the world and do whatever the hell we wanted. Music does that for us, and that's the feeling we want to bring to our fans."

"I like it a lot," Midoriya admitted, "and with a meaning like that, it's pretty cool! It's almost like found family."

"That's exactly it!" Kirishima chimed in, "We're family to each other. Ride or die, right guys?" The other members nodded happily along to his statement. Midoriya could feel the close bond they had. He bit down and looked through his notebook before continuing.

"My next question is..." he began, "during your performance I noticed that many of your songs were cover songs. I heard a few originals as well, but it didn't make up the majority. Is there a reason for that and are you planning on releasing more originals any time soon?"

"We started out as a cover band," Jirou said, "like I said, we just wanted to have fun, but eventually we kinda started taking off... so we thought it'd be a good idea to start writing our own stuff. A lot goes into it though, so we're going at our own pace. We don't want to put out anything that'll disappoint our fans."

"We actually got a demo in the works right now for a song Bakugou wrote!" Mina said excitedly. The blonde flinched and glared at her, obviously not wanting to participate in the interview. He was the only one who hadn't spoken. Midoriya hid his blush and cleared his throat.

"I see, can you tell us anything about it Bakugou? A teaser of some kind?" The blonde stared at the green haired boy, noticing his blush. He let out an annoyed sigh, but smirked and leaned forward.

"It's supposed to be a secret..." he looked at Midoriya with a playful glint in his eyes, "but I guess I can give you a little something since you're cute."

"O-oh I-"

"It's a revenge song." He said frankly, "That's all your gettin though." The blonde continued to smirk at the blushing boy, leaning back and crossing his legs. Midoriya swallowed, and turned back to the rest of the band to continue the interview. It went on for another 30 or so minutes before they decided to finish. The blonde hadn't spoken up since then, only replying with grunts or gestures. After turning off the recording, the band engaged in small conversation with the two as they packed their things.

"Hey Midoriya?" Mina walked over to him with a concerned look in her eyes, though she hid it with a smile. Midoriya smiled back.

"What's up Mina?"

"Just... I know there are a lot of rumors surrounding us," she looked down, "Most of them being about Bakugou. And I just wanted to say that... I know he seems a bit rough around the edges, and he's totally rude as hell but... he's not the type of guy they say he is." She then looked up at the boy and grabbed both of his hands in hers, "Please! I'm begging you to forgive him for not talking much! Please don't write about him in your article if you can help it..." Midoriya looked at her with wide eyes before smiling and squeezing her hands.

"Don't worry Mina," he reassured her, "I don't think he's what they say either. I won't write about him based on some stupid rumors! I'm a reporter, not a gossip podcast." She looked at him with a bright smile and giggled. She suddenly began bouncing up and down, not letting go of his hands.

"Thank you so much! Oh my god I... I'm just so worried about him ya know? He's a great guy, but no one seems to see it.... just because of some stupid fucks who can't leave him alone..." Midoriya cocked his head, realizing that she was probably talking about someone specific but, deciding not to pry.

"Midoriya?" He turned to look at Uraraka who called out to him, "Sorry its short notice, but Tokoyami asked me to stay behind and help him with something," she scratched the back of her neck sheepishly, "You can go on ahead! I know that the dorms have a curfew and I don't want you to get locked out."

"Oh! Okay that's fine," he smiled at his friend, "I'll get going then! Say hi to Tokoyami for me okay? See you guys later!" He exchanged goodbyes with the rest of the group, noticing how a certain blonde haired boy wasn't in the room anymore, and headed down the hallway. As he left the building, he was startled by someone leaning against the wall. He had nearly hit Bakugou with the door.

"Oh my god I'm so sorry I didn't know you were there and I just swung it open and oh my god you could have gotten hurt and I-"

"Oi shut up will ya?" Bakugou grunted, "Stop your rambling. It's fine for fucks sake!" Midoriya flinched at his harsh tone, but collected himself. He sighed and bowed his head slightly.

"That's good then..." Midoriya then realized that the two of them were completely alone, and he blushed, "Um well I- I guess I'll be goi-"

"Where you headed?" The blonde pushed himself off the wall and shoved his hands in his pockets. Midoriya gulped. He was much taller than he was so he had to crane his neck slightly. Seeing the handsome blonde up close was causing his heart to palpitate; surely his face was as red as a tomato by now.

"I-I'm going to the boys dorm room... building B." Bakugou nodded thoughtfully, but suddenly yawned. Midoriya gasped as he started at the boy's tongue piercing; it was so cool. Bakugou seemed to notice this and smirked.

"Wanna see it?" He asked, and Midoriya blushed again before responding.

"R-really? Can I?" He tilted his head, "I-I've always thought piercings were super cool b-but I'm too afraid to get one myself..." Bakugou smirked again, looking at the smaller boy with hooded eyes as he leaned down and stuck out his tongue. Without realizing it, Midoriya began to stare again. Bakugou's teeth were perfect, his sharp canines stood out. His tongue was pointed slightly, and right in the middle rested the silver ball Midoriya had seen before. He couldn't help but think about how attractive the man in front of him was. While he was distracted, Bakugou leaned in closer. He slowly dragged his tongue across Midoriya's cheek. Midoriya shivered slightly, the piercing scraping across his skin. Bakugou's tongue traveled to Midoriya's blushing ear, gently grazing his teeth on his earlobe before whispering.

"See you around, bunny boy."
