A Little Short Tempered

Summary:

The gang loves teasing Lena about her height.

Work Text:

"Hey, Lee, did you know that the smaller a creature is, the more vicious they are because they have less room to bottle up their anger?" Kara asks from her reclined position on the couch in her best friend's office.

Lena paused from reviewing reports with Sam to fix the Super with an unamused look of confusion. "That might be one of the most ridiculous things that you've ever said to me."

"No, no, she's right." Sam piped in from her seat next to Lena, still leafing through the papers in her hand.

Lena breathed out a sigh and gave both women an exasperated look before returning to her paperwork. "Alright, give me an example."

"You." The Kryptonians answered in unison.

Lena's hand stilled from scribbling notes as she lifted her head and fixed both women with a blank look. Kara and Sam held her stare for all of two seconds before bursting into uncontrolled laughter as Lena reached forward and spoke into the intercom. "Jess, I need you to remove Kara Danvers' all-access visitor pass and put her on the no-entry list, and I need a list of potential new CFOs drawn up immediately."

The two laughed harder as the usually stoic secretary replied. "I take it you didn't like their joke?"

"You're fired too."

"I've gotta hand it to you, Luthor. You sure know how to plan a vacation." Alex said, taking a long sip of her drink while gazing out her window at the ocean.

Nia, Brainy, and Winn nodded their heads in agreement. "Self-flying private jet, private villa, all-expense paid." Nia teased, pointing at the box of imported Swiss chocolates she and Brainy were currently going to town on.

Lena smiled as she shook her head and took another sip of her own drink. "Well, what's the point of being obscenely rich if you can't spoil your friends?" She asked, placing the empty glass beside her on the bedside table and reaching over to grab a few of the gummy bears Winn was tossing in the air and attempting to catch in his mouth. "If you think this is impressive, you should have seen where I took Ruby for her tenth birthday."

"You can't beat watching Madagascar in Madagascar." Ruby bragged playfully, sticking her tongue out at Winn and Nia when they voiced their jealousy.

Sam laughed, shaking her head at the memory. "It was beyond extra."

"I don't know, I still think it's too much, Lee," Kara said, squirming in her seat, clearly uncomfortable by both the extravagant accommodations and being unable to fly herself.

"Shut up, Kara." Alex chastised her sister with an authoritative glare. "I can't remember the last time I took a vacation, and like she said, if she wants to pamper us, then we're not going to complain."

"Here, here!" The rest of the group cheered, raising their assorted drinks and snacks in a toast while Kara crossed her arms over her chest petulantly.

The flight continued for several more hours. Pleasant conversations, snacks, and drinks were shared among everyone, including the no-longer-pouting Kara. As they drew closer to their destination, the voice of the plane's A.I. filled the cabin. "Ms. Luthor, we will begin making our descent in the next few moments. Please make sure that all small items are secured."

"Thank you, Hope."

Alex said, clapping her hands together and giving the cabin a quick once over after everyone had finished packing away their things and cleaning their areas. "Alrighty, bags, electronics, looks like all tiny things are secure- wait," she stopped abruptly, turning to the CEO with an overly concerned expression. "Lena, are you buckled in?"

The previously light and friendly atmosphere shifted suddenly. Nia and Ruby each let out a shocked 'Oop' before covering each other's mouths. Winn and Brainy attempt to hide behind each other before finally linking arms and holding on to each other for dear life. Kara and Sam share a brief terrified look before turning their attention back to the silent blank-faced Lena and smirking Alex.

Lena said nothing as she stood, taking long elegant strides toward the back of the plane. Alex burst out into a loud cackle that had her almost doubled over. Everyone else kept their gaze trained on the door Lena disappeared behind. Still laughing as Lena re-emerged, Alex didn't notice the rest of their friends scrambling to put on their seatbelts or the younger woman's presence until something heavy landed in her lap, cutting off her laughter as she let out a pained 'oof'. Alex's eyes widen, and the color drains from her face when she realizes that, one, the bag in her lap is actually a parachute, and two, Lena has completely bypassed her seat and is standing by the emergency exit door.

Lena looks the agent dead in her eyes, gestures to the door, and says,

"Get out."

"Merry Christmas Eve!" Ruby shouted excitedly, throwing open the front door of Kara's apartment. The teenager rushed to claim the seat at the treat-covered kitchen island between Kara and Nia, who were arguing over the best DCom, and began stuffing her mouth full of gingerbread men an already tipsy Alex had just pulled out of the oven while her mother struggled with the large sack of gifts they brought.

Lena smiled fondly at the pair over her shoulder and returned the greeting as she continued to stir the pot of hot cocoa. "Merry Christmas Eve, sweetheart. The hot cocoa is almost finished."

"Aunt Lena, what are you doing here?" Ruby asked around a mouthful of cookie, ignoring her mother's disapproving glare and Alex's amused expression. "I thought elves were only allowed out of the North Pole to help deliver presents on Christmas; you've still got a few hours left."

Lena stopped stirring and turned away from the stove to face Ruby with an expression that screamed, 'choose your next move carefully'. Ruby managed to contain her satisfied smirk until Sam burst out into laughter. Lena merely nodded before grabbing the pot of cocoa and unceremoniously dumping its entire contents down the drain.

"Lena, no!" Nia, Sam, and Kara cried. Ruby stared in stunned silence. Alex dropped to her knees, threw her head back dramatically let out an anguished "Why!?"

Lena released her grip on the now-empty pot and let it fall into the sink with a loud clang. "Christmas is canceled." She announced matter of factly, crossing her arms over her chest.

"No, please," Ruby pleaded as she rushed forward and wrapped her arms around Lena's waist. "I'm sorry, aunt Lena, mom made me do it!"

Sam stared at her daughter in utter betrayal. "You little snitch!"

Everyone stared at Lena, who gave no reaction for a long moment before she uncrossed her arms to wrap them around her niece's shoulders. "Fine, Sam's Christmas is canceled."

"No!" Sam cried. Kara, Nia, and Ruby cheered. Alex curled up in a ball on the floor, clutching her knees to her chest, and let out a broken "But my cocoa."

Alex clapped her hands together as she entered Kara's apartment, immediately heading for the kitchen. "Alright, ladies, great workout, but now it's pancake time. How many does everyone want?"

"Oh, I want three stacks, please!" Kara exclaimed, using her superspeed to set the table.

Sam scoffed playfully from inside the fridge as she handed Nia and Andrea fruit and other toppings to place on the table. "Coward, give me five."

"I'm sorry, I must have heard you wrong. I know that you aren't doubting me, Kara Zor-El, Scion of the Great House of El, Supergirl, and my ability to outeat every living thing on this planet!" Kara proclaim with mock indignation.

"I surely am, girl scout." Sam challenged her fellow Kryptonian playfully.

"Children, can we please go one meal without the two of you attempting to turn it into some grotesque challenge?" Lena chided, stepping between the two aliens and offering each of them their preferred drinks, cocoa with cinnamon for Kara and coffee with just a splash of milk for Sam. "I'll take a short stack if you wouldn't mind, Alex." She requested, giving the still-bickering women's cheeks a firm pat after they accepted their mugs.

Alex grinned as she began plating the food. "No problem, one short stack for the short stack coming right up!"

Lena shot the agent a look before marching over to the dining table and grabbing the bottle of maple syrup. The CEO reared back her arm, fully prepared to launch the bottle at Alex's head, when eight pairs of arms wrapped around her neck, torso, arms, and waist, with a collective cry of "Lena, no!" effectively halting her movements.

"Lena, please, not my syrup!" Nia pleaded as Lena struggled to reach the now cackling Alex.

Lena had a very long, very annoying day ahead of her, judging by her agenda for the day. Instead of spending the majority of her day in the labs like she had planned it looked like she would be stuck in her office going over emails and signing papers. Lena's plan to buckle down and get as much work done as quickly as possible was foiled the moment she answered an unexpected call from Sam.

"Hey, Lee, do you know what today's date is?"

"Good morning to you too, Sam." Lena drawled sarcastically. "Today is the twenty-fourth."

"Of October, right?"

"That is correct."

"Great. Awesome. Perfect. Thank you!"

The excitement in Sam's voice caused Lena to stop working and look at her phone skeptically. "What are you up to, Samantha?"

"How dare you insinuate that I'm up to something! Name one occasion that I have done something behind your back."

"It would be after Ruby's bedtime if I started listing them now."

"Lee, Ruby doesn't go to sleep until ten. It's eleven in the morning."

"My point exactly."

"The attitude is unnecessary, miss ma'am. Anyways, where are you now?"

"Well, it's 11 A.M. on a Friday, and I do have a company to run, so I'm at work where I'm assuming, given your line of questioning, you are not." The CEO replied dryly.

"You are correct, but I am, however, in the elevator on my way up to your office, where I will arrive with a lovely surprise that will have you canceling the rest of your day."

Lena groaned loudly as she rubbed the bridge of her nose with her thumb and index finger. "Sam, whatever you're planning, please don't. I have so much work to-"

"La-la-la-la-la I can't hear you! Jess has already cleared your schedule, the doors are opening, I'm coming in bye!"

"Sam!" Lena shouted as the CFO disconnected the call. Before she could even move, the door swung open. Nia and Andrea led the pack releasing an unreasonable amount of balloons. Next were the Danvers sisters Kara, with a large chocolate cake raised high above her head, and Alex, with her arms spread out, a bottle of Lena's favorite scotch in one hand and wine in the other. Music filled the room as Winn and Brainy entered, each waving a speaker in the air. Ruby rushed in, tossing two handfuls of confetti into the air as Sam entered, singing along to the music.

"Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, shorty It's your birthday!"

Kara and Nia took the next line. "We gon' party like it's your birthday!"

"We gon' sip Bacardi like it's your birthday!" Alex and Andrea screamed.

"And you know we don't give a fu-" Ruby started before her mother's hand firmly clamped on her mouth.

Lena stared at her friends blankly before shaking her head, a smile tugging at the corner of her lips. "You have to be the most insufferable group of people I've ever met in my entire life."

"Aww, we love you too, Little Luthor!"

"Especially you Alex."
