Work Text:

Dating the daughter of a zaibatsu was very different than dating a broke detective, Akemi mused as she waited for the elevator.

“Tachibana-sama.” an employee bowed once she was on the floor Rui was on.

Akemi bowed back. She still wasn’t quite used to that part, but it was easier to go get Rui than to let Rui get to her. At least when she got Rui they didn’t have to worry about someone dragging her away, compared to when Rui came to her. “Follow me.”

Akemi obediently followed, finding herself in front of a different door than the last time she had been there.

“Ayanokouji-sama, Tachibana-sama is here to see you for your 3 o’clock appointment,” the employee said through an intercom.

“Sweet, let her in--I mean, thank you, you may let her come in.”

The door buzzed open, and the employee gestured for her to go in. Akemi gave a bow of thanks and walked in, the door closing behind her.

“Akemi, thank god you’re here. It’s been so boring today.”

“Really?”

“Really,” Rui said with a pout. “So let’s go, I have a really fun place in mind, I already set it up.”

“Oh?”

“Yeah, come on!”

Twenty minutes later, Akemi found herself at an empty amusement park.

“Where is everyone?” she asked, although she had a feeling she knew the answer.

“I rented it out just for us!” Rui said with a gigantic smile. “Come on, let’s go!”

Bemused, Akemi followed Rui to the line for the dragon boat ride.

“This is one of my favorites!”

It wasn’t one of Akemi’s favorites, but it was still a fun ride, Rui screaming with delight as they got higher and higher.

“Next ride!”

Akemi laughed as she let Rui drag her from ride to ride, the autumn air cooling them  down as they walked all over the park.

“What next?” Akemi asked, having just gotten off one of the roller coasters.

“Mmmmm…let’s try that water shooting game!” Rui said. “Bet I’m better at it than you!”

“You sure?” Akemi teased.

“Yeah!”

She was just barely better, since this was one of Akemi’s favorite things to do at the amusement park.

“That was fun, now what?” Akemi asked.

“Teacups!”

It was honestly amazing how much energy Rui seemed to have, not that Akemi was tired quite yet, but Rui was bouncing everywhere — until she wasn’t.

“Akemiiiiiiiiiii, I’m tiiiiiired,” Rui pouted.

“You were bouncing off the walls, I’m not surprised,” Akemi remarked.

“Mmmmmph.”

“Come on, I’ll carry you,” Akemi said, smiling slightly. Rui was going to weigh more than a five year old, but she was so tiny, Akemi wasn’t too worried.

“Really?”

“Yeah, get on my back.”

Rui did as told, directing Akemi to the gift shop, where there was a sale on (thankfully miniature) stuffed animals, buy eight for a cheaper price, because of course there was.

“Did you have fun?” Rui asked once they left the amusement park, still on Akemi’s back but holding a bag of stuffed animals in one hand.

“I did, lots of it,” Akemi said with a reassuring smile.

“Oh, good,” Rui said with a sigh of relief.

“Did you?” Akemi asked, only to be answered with a small snore.

“Fell asleep? Well, good thing you’re light,” Akemi said with a shake of her head and a little laugh. “Let’s get you home.”
