Chapter Text
As the Black Cat pirates retreated back to their ship and out to sea, carrying the defeated Captain Kuro with them, Luffy finally let himself relax. The fight was won.
He was aching in a dozen places from all the cuts and knicks from Kuro’s knives. He was exhausted from the battle. And most of all he was hungry.
Luffy tried to bend his knees to sit down, but instead he simply fell off his feet and pitch forward. Before he could collide with the hard rocky ground, he was caught by soft arms that lowered him down gently, and Nami sat beside him. “Even the mighty Luffy faints eventually,” his orange-haired navigator chuckled, “what made you so mad anyway?”
Luffy grumbled from his spot on the ground. “I hate ‘em. They’re no good.” What kind of captain turns on his own crew like that?
“Well they are pirates,” Nami said, casually twirling his hat around her finger. If anyone else had been doing he’d have been angry. But from her, he didn’t mind. She had even repaired it after Buggy cut it up on the last island. “What did you expect?” she asked.
“A steak would be nice,” Luffy said. He was really hungry.
“That’s not what I…” Nami trailed off, then held out a hand to help him up. “Never mind, I’d like one too. Since you saved my treasure as well as this island, I’ll buy you dinner in the village.”
Luffy took her hand and let her pull him to his feet. As she pulled him up she placed his hat back on his head, and then unexpectedly she leaned in close and softly pressed her lips to his cheek.
“Huh?” Luffy asked, “What was that for?”
“Oh, nothing,” Nami smiled her impish smile at him, “You’re just not what I expected. For a pirate.”
