Ao3 and y/n are laying in bed together. It’s late at night and you are both so sleepy. You turn to Ao3, your beautiful partner.
“Ao3, can you tell me a bedtime story like you usually do?” You ask.
Ao3 purrs in affirmation. “Of course, y/n! What kind of story do you want?”
You pause and put a hand on your chin, deep in thought. You run through the show that you’ve watched recently and all the cute ships you’ve had running through your head.
The shows that you don’t like and the ships you never want to hear of also cross your mind, and you make a mental note to ask Ao3 to not tell you stories that contain them.
“A-ha!” You cheer and whisper your wants to Ao3.
Ao3 giggles, like they always do. They told you earlier that they don’t mean it to be mean-hearted, they just think it’s cute when you whisper. They are currently deep in thought, themself, trying to remember the perfect story.
“I’ve got it!” Ao3 looks like they just invented the lightbulb with how much their face brightens. “One of my friends, a writer, wrote this one for me a couple weeks ago!”
They pull out a stack of paper and begin telling you the greatest story ever. You sign, dreamily. Ao3 always seems to know exactly what you want, after you tell it to them of course. You close your eyes and imagine the story playing out in your head.
Slowly, your smile fades. This story isn’t going in the direction that you wanted. That’s not how that character would act! And there’s something that makes you uncomfortable! Oh, but Ao3 looks so cute as they recite the story…
Suddenly, you can’t take it anymore!
“Can you please tell me a different story?” You ask Ao3 politely.
Ao3 stops. “Of course, y/n! Did you not like this one?”
You nod, a little embarrassed of not liking a story that your dear and beautiful partner, Ao3, told to you. Especially one that their friend wrote for them!
“I’m sorry that I stopped you, it seemed like such a good story at first! And it was from your dear friend, but it just made me a little uncomfortable.”
Ao3 gives you a kiss on your forehead. “Thank you for being mature about it, my darling.”
You feel a dart of hope break through the embarrassment and slight fear of Ao3 not liking you for stopping them telling a story. “Really? You’re not mad at me?”
Ao3 smiles like you are the brightest star in the night sky. “I’m not just not mad at you. I'm proud of you, y/n! You recognized that this story wasn't for you and acted appropriately! You asked me to stop telling the story and didn’t act against the writer of the story."
You sigh a sigh of relief. “I love you, Ao3/”
“I love you too!”
“Can you tell me a different story?” You ask hopefully.
“Of course, y/n!”
Ao3 gives you another kiss on the forehead and gives you tiny kisses on your cheeks as you think of what other kinds of story you might want to hear.
