Work Text:
The brilliant and eccentric scientist, Rick Sanchez, was traversing the dimensional barriers again, his trusty portal gun humming with power. As he stepped into an alternate reality, he came face to face with Professor Membrane, a renowned scientist and defender of Earth's safety. Rick had heard of the professor's intelligence and reputation, and he couldn't resist engaging in a lively debate about one of his favorite topics: the existence of extraterrestrial life.
Rick smirked, adjusting his disheveled lab coat as he locked eyes with Professor Membrane. "So, Membrane, still think aliens are nothing but a figment of imagination, huh?"
Professor Membrane stood tall, his futuristic laboratory shimmering in the background. "Rick, I've devoted my life to pursuing scientific truth. While I respect your intelligence, I find it hard to believe we are not alone in the universe. However, the vast space and the probability of other habitable planets make it highly plausible."
Rick scoffed, his blue eyes gleaming with mischief. "Probability? Membrane, you're talking about probability while I've traveled through countless dimensions and encountered beings from all corners of the multiverse. I've seen things that would make your brain implode!"
The professor frowned, his brow furrowing in contemplation. "But where is the empirical evidence, Rick? Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. So we should focus on advancing our scientific knowledge until we have concrete proof of extraterrestrial life."
Rick let out a boisterous laugh, shaking his head. "Membrane, you're missing out on the greatest adventure of all time! The universe is teeming with life, and you're sitting here, confined to your lab, twiddling your thumbs. Your caution is holding you back from true enlightenment."
Professor Membrane raised his eyebrows at Rick's comment. "I am not twiddling my thumbs, Rick. I am conducting research, gathering data, and analyzing it with scientific rigor. I believe in approaching things with a healthy dose of skepticism rather than blindly accepting every fantastical claim."
Rick scoffed. "Skepticism is just another word for fear, Membrane. Fear of the unknown, fear of change, fear of what lies beyond our narrow understanding of the universe. But I don't fear anything. On the contrary, I embrace the unknown, which makes me a true scientist."
Professor Membrane shook his head. "I am not afraid, Rick. I believe in caution and carefully consider the evidence before concluding. It's what separates true science from wild speculation."
Rick grinned mischievously. "Well, we'll just have to agree to disagree, Membrane. But mark my words; one day, you'll come around to my way of thinking. And when that day comes, I'll be waiting with a portal gun in hand, ready to show you the universe's wonders."
As the two scientists continued their friendly banter, their colleagues and assistants looked on, amused by the friendly rivalry between the two legends. Despite their differing perspectives, Rick and Professor Membrane respected each other's intellectual prowess, recognizing the value of rigorous scientific inquiry in unlocking the secrets of the cosmos.
As they parted ways, Rick turned back and shouted, "Don't worry, Membrane, I'll save you a spot on my next intergalactic adventure!" Professor Membrane smiled and waved, secretly intrigued by the prospect of exploring the unknown alongside his eccentric colleague. Who knows what discoveries await them in the vast expanse of the universe?
