Chapter Text
Elena looked on in horror as Klaus prepared to murder her aunt. His witch had just extinguished the flames around Jenna, and Elena knew he was about to kill her. All Elena knew was fear and rage. She had so much rage. The only parent she had left was about to be murdered because of her, and because Klaus wanted to break some curse. She was filled with hate for him and a desire to stop him, to kill him.
Before Elena knew what was happening, the flames around her had extinguished, and two large wings erupted from behind her attacked Klaus. They slashed his shoulder and sent him flying several feet backwards.
Klaus growled in pain and grabbed his arm, which was bleeding profusely. He then looked over at his doppelganger and gasped. She had two large wings coming from her back and her eyes were bright red from her rage. He'd only seen those eyes on one other person before, so he had no doubt the doppelganger got her knew accessories from him.
"Elena?" Jenna asked in disbelief as she stared at her niece. She supposed at this point that nothing should surprise her, but her niece growing wings on her back definitely did.
Stefan got up at that point as well and also stared at his girlfriend in shock,
Elena, meanwhile, stared at herself in shock. What the hell had just happened? There were two white wings coming out of her, and she had no idea how. Had the beginning of the ritual done this? Was it a doppelganger thing? "Oh my God."
Just then, Damon appeared and took the scene in. He looked around in confusion before he zeroed in on Elena. "What the hell?"
"We need to get out of here," Stefan said. Klaus was still stunned and injured on the ground. They needed to leave now before he came out of it. They could figure everything else out later.
Damon nodded before rushing to Elena, while Stefan did the same with Jenna. They all ran away in a blur.

Damon opened the front door of the boarding house and stepped aside to leg Elana through, which wasn't going to be easy, given that her large wings were still present. "Careful."
Elena turned to the side and carefully maneuvered herself inside. Stefan and Jenna stepped inside right after her.
Hearing them come in, John, Jeremy, and Alaric rushed into the room moments later. "Hey, are you all…?" Alaric started, but trailed off when he got a look at Elena.
"What the hell?" John asked.
"My words exactly," Damon said.
"Can anyone with more knowledge of the supernatural please tell what has happened to my niece?" Jenna asked.
"Yeah, we've never seen anything like this before," Damon said.
"Great. I'm a freak even to the supernatural then. John, you know a lot about the supernatural. Do you know what's happening to me?" Elena asked her biological father.
John shook his head. "I know about vampires and witches. I have never heard of any supernatural being that can produce wings, at least not outside of fairy tales. What exactly happened to make them appear?"
"I don't know. Klaus was about to sacrifice Jenna, and all I could feel was anger and fear. I wanted to stop him. Then I did. These came out of nowhere and threw him away from her," Elena explained.
"They must have done more than that. He was bleeding. These things can hurt him. We might be able to take him down," Damon said with a smirk.
Elena glared at him, and her eyes flashed red again. "I'm finding it hard to care about that right now!"
"Whoa," Jeremy said.
"What?" Elena asked.
"Your eyes just turned red," Alaric said.
"They did that earlier too, right after the wings appeared," Jenna said.
"Th…they did?" Elena asked.
"Yeah, for a few seconds. Then they turned back to their normal color.
"Oh, God. What is happening to me?" Elena asked as she began to panic. He
Her wings then began to flap uncontrollably, destroying everything in their vicinity.
"Whoa!" Damon said before they all took several steps back.
"Elena, they are obviously triggered by your emotions. You have to calm down," Jenna said.
"I don't know how!" Elena exclaimed.
"Take some deep breaths. It's going to be okay," Stefan promised.
Elena did as he suggested and started to relax a little after a few minutes. She was still anxious though. She just wanted these things to disappear. How was she supposed to go around with two giant wings attached to her back.
Soon enough, Elena seemed to get her wish. The wings retreated into her back and disappeared, causing Elena to sigh in relief.
Stefan immediately ran to her side. "It's going to be okay. They're gone."
"For now, but they'll come back at some point," Elena cried into his arms.
"I'll call Bonnie and have her get her ass back here, so she can help us figure out what the hell is happening," Damon said before leaving the room.

As soon as Klaus got back to his place, he ripped off his shirt and placed it on his arm to try to stop the bleeding. He yelled out as soon as it made contact with the wound. He couldn't believe what had just happened. He'd finally found a human doppelganger only to learn she wasn't really human. There was no way Elena Gilbert was human, not with those wings and those eyes. Obviously, Isobel had been less than honest about who had fathered her child.
Just then, Klaus heard his door open and close. He turned and sighed when he saw his brother. "I should've known you were there watching. I suppose you followed me back there."
"Hmm. I was there to kill you. Unfortunately, you ruined the plan," Elijah said.
"Actually, the doppelganger ruined the plan. Or I suppose I should say her mother did. And I suppose you aimed to kill me over our siblings. Just for the record, I lied. I didn't drown our siblings. I said that to get you to abandon me," Klaus told him.
"Where are they?" Elijah demanded to know in a dangerous tone.
"Later. We have other concerns. Did you see her? Elena Gilbert?" Klaus asked.
"I did," Elijah said. He had been shocked when he saw Elena transform. She seemed human to him. He never imagined she was what she was. He didn't think she knew either. She gave no indication that she was anything other than human.
"She's his," Klaus said with certainty in his voice.
"You don't know that. There are many like him, even if we've never seen them, we know they exist," Elijah said.
"Her eyes turned red. He's the only one with that trait," Klaus said before taking his shirt away from his arm. The bleeding had stopped and the wound began to close. "It's healing, just very slowly."
"Well, you can't say you didn't deserve it. Have you called him?" Elijah asked.
"I just got back here with a bloody gap in my arm! I haven't had time to do anything," Klaus said.
"You need to call. You owe him. We all do," Elijah said.
"I'm aware. First things first. I need to get the girl away from her little group of worshippers. Who knows what they'll do to her if they find out what she is," Klaus said.
Elijah nodded. He agreed with his brother. The Salvatore brothers and the Bennett witch might protect Elena now, but there was no telling how they would react once they found out that she was most likely the Devil's daughter.

Elena woke up alone the next morning in Stefan's bed at the boarding house. Everyone had stayed there for the night, since a lot of things were still up in the air, including whether or not Klaus was going to come after her again. They decided it was just better to remain together.
Elena didn't sleep much the night before. She still didn't know what had caused her to grow wings in the span of seconds or why her eyes suddenly changed color whenever she was pissed off. It scared her. She didn't know what the hell she was. Bonnie had come by and was looking into it, but she knew nothing about it either. They were all in the dark.
Elena slowly got out of bed and went downstairs to find Stefan. She found her boyfriend in the kitchen with his brother. Damon was showing Stefan his arm, which he quickly covered back up when he saw her coming. Elena did manage to see a bit of skin discoloration before Damon rolled his sleeve back down though. "What the hell was that?"
"Nothing," Damon lied.
"The hell it wasn't," Elena said as she ran over and grabbed his wrist.
"Ow!" Damon said. Her grip was pretty tight.
Elena ignored him and pushed his sleeve up, revealing a nasty bite. "That's a werewolf bite. You got bit?"
Damon pulled his arm free. "Never mind that. How did you grip my arm so hard? That hurt!"
"I don't know, Damon. How did I grow wings and slash an a thousand-year-old vampire's arm with them? Just add it to the list of things I have no idea about," Elena said as she pushed down another wave of fear. "You were bitten by a werewolf. I think that takes precedence."
"We'll find a way to fix it," Stefan promised her.
"Good luck with that, brother. There's no cure for a werewolf bite," Damon said before taking a sip of his bourbon.
"We'll find one," Stefan said firmly.
Just then, they heard the front door open. A couple of minutes later, Caroline made her way to the kitchen. "Elena, you're alive, and not a vampire! I take it things went according to plan."
"Not even slightly. The sacrifice didn't happen. Things got weird in the middle of the ritual," Elena said before explaining to her friend the events of the night before.
Caroline stared at her friend in shock. "Wings? How could she have wings?" she asked, directing the question to Stefan and Damon. She figured if anyone would know, it would be the two vampires that had been alive for a hundred plus years.
"Don't look at us, Blondie. We've never seen anything like that," Damon said.
Just then, Jenna and Alaric entered the room. Jenna immediately went over to her niece. "Hey, Elena. How are you doing today."
"Still freaked out, but I'm more worried about Damon. He was bitten by a werewolf," Elena said.
"I'm fine," Damon said. He wasn't, or he wouldn't be for long anyway, but he didn't want to discuss it anymore.
Soon, the others came in as well. Bonnie looked like she probably got less sleep than Elena. She'd spent most of the night trying to find something to figure out what was happening to Elena.
"Bonnie, you look like you haven't slept at all," Caroline commented.
"Pretty close. I got maybe an hour or two. I've been trying to find something to figure out what's happening to Elena. I even went so far as to search the internet for mythical creatures with wings, and their plenty, but each of them is as unlikely as the rest," Bonnie said.
"I have some contacts. I can ask if anyone's heard of a person sprouting wings," John said.
"Hold on. I'm new to this whole thing, but I do know that you and your friends hate the supernatural. You're not going to tell them that our niece has sprouted wings," Jenna said firmly.
"I wasn't planning to give them her name, Jenna," John said irritably. He wasn't an idiot. He knew not to tell anyone his daughter had supernatural afflictions.
"It doesn't matter. You ask a hunter about a being with wings, they'll assume you know someone like that and come here," Alaric said.
"Look, this issue isn't important right now. We need to figure out a cure for a werewolf bite," Elena said. Her friend possibly dying took precedence over her problems. He was dying, she wasn't.
"There is no cure, Elena," Damon said.
Bonnie looked at Damon and saw the bite on his arm. "You got bit?"
Damon nodded.
Elena turned to John. "John, have you heard anything about a cure for a werewolf bite?"
"No, but I guess I can ask my contacts about that. Maybe one of them knows something," John said, sounding unhappy about it. As far as he was concerned, one less vampire in the world could only be a good thing, but if he ever wanted a relationship with his daughter, he would have to try to help her vampire friend.
"Thank you," Elena said before leaving the room. She needed some time to herself.

Later that night, Elena was sitting just outside the boarding house. She was getting anxious. John wasn't able to find out anything from his contacts, and Damon was getting worse. He wasn't terrible at the moment, but it was clear it was starting to take a physical toll on him. He only had a couple of days at the most. Plus, Elena still had what was going on with her on her mind. The wings hadn't manifested since last night, but she was on edge waiting to see if it happened again.
Stefan came outside a moment later. "Hey. You shouldn't be out here alone."
"If Klaus shows up, it won't matter if I'm outside or not," Elena said. Klaus could get inside since he obtained permission while in Alaric's body. "How's Damon?"
"The same. He's going to get a lot worse though. The hallucinations will start soon," Stefan said with a shudder.
Just then, a car pulled up in front of the driveway. Klaus and Elijah came out moments later. "Tread carefully, brother," Elijah said.
Stefan immediately pulled Elena up and got in front of her.
Klaus chuckled as he made his way towards them. "Chivalry becomes you, Stefan."
"Go inside, Elena," Stefan said while glaring at Klaus.
"So protective. Admirable, even if it is misguided. I could rip your heart from your body within seconds if I wanted. Truthfully, you're the one that should be hiding behind her," Klaus said. Elena Gilbert was far more powerful than Stefan could hope to be, at least she would be when she was taught how to use that power. Until then, he would make sure the Devil's daughter was protected.
"What do you want, Klaus. The full moon has passed, and even if it happened, I don't think my death would help you anyway," Elena said. Of course, she knew that might not matter to Klaus. He'd slaughtered Katherine's family and chased her around the world to torture her when she ruined the ritual for him. He might want to do the same to Elena, despite the fact that she had no power over what she'd done.
"You're right, Love. Your death would do nothing to help me now. In fact, it would put me in quite the awkward position. Actually, I'm here because I thought I could help you. I hear one of your suitors has a bit of a problem that would have him dead soon enough," Klaus said.
"You can help Damon? You have a cure?" Elena asked.
Klaus laughed. "No, I don't. Ironically enough, if the sacrifice had worked, I could have saved him. The blood of the hybrid acts as a cure. Obviously, that isn't an option. However, you can save him, and I can talk you through how."
"And what would you want in return?" Elena asked. She wasn't an idiot. Klaus wanted something. He didn't give a crap about saving Damon.
Klaus smirked. "That's my cleaver doppelganger. I will help you if you come with us afterwards." It was a similar deal to the one he'd planned to over Stefan when he inevitably asked for a cure, but obviously that was no longer in the equation. If Elena were anyone else, he would've just taken her by brute force, but that wasn't a good idea, given the power she had and her inability to control it. He had to get her to come on her own accord.
"No way in hell!" Stefan snapped.
"I was talking to the girl. You became irrelevant last night. Fair warning, Elena. Stefan doesn't seem like the type to take too well to a girlfriend more powerful than him," Klaus said.
Elena ignored his last comment, since she had absolutely no idea what to do with the idea that she could be more powerful than a vampire. "Why? What do you want from me?"
"We can discuss that later. I'll be needing a decision now," Klaus said.
"It's obvious what he wants. He wants to torture you for ruining his ritual, like he did Katherine," Stefan said.
"We mean you no harm, Elena," Elijah assured her.
Stefan glared at him. "You were never going to kill him, were you?"
"I had every intention of it, but I probably would not have been able to go through with it. Elena, I do apologize for that," Elijah said. He hated breaking his word, and while he hadn't technically done so, he likely would have if the ritual worked.
"It's okay. I should have never expected you to do something I never would've been able to do. He's your brother," Elena said.
"She's not going anywhere with you," Stefan said.
"Does he speak for you, Love?" Klaus asked Elena.
"We'll find another way," Stefan told his girlfriend.
"Within the time it'll take for the venom to kill your brother? That's quite the gamble, isn't it?" Klaus said before turning to Elena. "I'll tell you what, Sweetheart. I'll sweeten the pot. I want answers about your recent transformation, I'm sure. I can give you those answers."
"You know what's happening to me?" Elena asked. She didn't know why she didn't consider the fact that he might know. Klaus and Elijah had been alive for more than a thousand years. They had probably seen every supernatural creature there was. Another indicator was that Klaus had said that she had the power to save Damon and that she was more powerful than Stefan. He at least knew about it to know what she was.
"I do," Klaus told her.
"He's lying," Stefan accused.
Elena shook her head. "No, he's not. I'll go only if Damon survives. If whatever you want me to try fails, the deal is off."
"Deal," Klaus said.
"Elena, no," Stefan said.
"This is my decision, Stefan. You need to respect it," Elena said firmly. She wasn't sure at all that this was the right call. She hated Klaus and she didn't trust him in the slightest, but she was pretty sure that if he wanted her dead, he would've killed her already. He was offering to help her save Damon and to give her answers. She couldn't turn those things down.
"Excellent! Shall we?" Klaus asked before brushing past them and walking into the house.

Elena led the way into the living room, where everyone was gathered around. Damon was laying on the couch with a glass of bourbon in his hands. If he was going to die in a day or so, he was going to get drunk one more time first.
When Klaus and Elijah walked in after Elena, everyone jumped up, including Damon. "What the hell?"
"Elena, get away from him!" John ordered.
"Everyone, calm down. They're not here to hurt anyone. Klaus is going to help us save Damon," Elena said.
"The hell he is! I don't want his help, and we can't trust him anyway. He has no interest in helping me," Damon said.
Klaus smirked. "Fair enough, mate. In most circumstances, I'd let you die. It serves my purposes for you to live tonight."
"What do you want from Damon?" Caroline wondered.
"Absolutely nothing. I will settle up with Elena over here," Klaus said.
"No. Elena, don't do this. Whatever he wants isn't worth it. Damon isn't worth it," Bonnie said.
"Well, thanks for that. Although I agree for once. It isn't worth it," Damon said.
"I know what he wants. I already agreed to it," Elena said.
"He wants Elena to go with him," Stefan said.
Elena glared at her boyfriend. She hadn't planned to tell them that until after Damon was healed. She knew they'd only try harder to stop her, which was probably why Stefan told them.
Everyone immediately started yelling about how they wouldn't let her do this, no one louder than Damon himself. There was no way he was going to let her hand herself over to this maniac for him. They'd just barely managed to stop the sacrifice. Who knew what Klaus had planned for her now.
"Stop!" Elena yelled, causing everyone in the room to shut up. "I know that you're all worried, but this is my choice. If they can help me save Damon, I will go with Klaus and Elijah.
"The hell you will!" Damon snarled.
"Elena, no! That man tried to kill you! He tried to kill both of us just last night," Jenna said.
"I know, Aunt Jenna, but my death doesn't help him anymore," Elena said.
"That didn't stop him from chasing Katherine for centuries. What makes you think he doesn't want to get you alone so he can torture you and finish what he started?" John asked.
Klaus laughed mockingly. "What makes you think any of you could stop me if that's what I did want?"
"He's right. Look, I'm doing this. Klaus, tell me what to do," Elena said.
"No, this isn't going to happen," Damon said firmly. He wasn't going to let Elena sacrifice herself for him.
"Yeah, it is," Elena said before pushing him back down on the couch with ease.
"Hey. Stop doing that," Damon said. He was starting to get a little unsettled by how easy it was for Elena to exert strength over him. It had to be the werewolf bite, didn't it? There was no way she could be stronger than a vampire, could she?"
Klaus chuckled. "Careful, Love. You don't know your own strength. While I certainly have no aversion to it, I get the feeling it would bother you if you hurt one of these people."
"Just tell me how to save him," Elena said.
"You're going to need your wings for that. You just need to bring them out," Klaus said.
Elena glared at him. "Yeah, as if it's that easy. I've only brought them out once, and it was entirely unexpected. I don't know how to bring them out on command."
"You're going to have to figure it out, sweetheart. It's the only way for you to heal someone," Klaus said. Unfortunately, he couldn't tell her how to do it. It was a gift he didn't have.
"Elena, what were you thinking when it happened last night? Perhaps that will help," Elijah said.
"I was pissed and scared. Klaus was about to kill my aunt. All I could think about was getting out of that fire circle and getting him away from her," Elena explained.
"So, think about what you want to do now. Damon is dying, and producing your wings is the only way you can save him. That's what you need to think about, and you need to concentrate," Elijah said before turning towards the others. "I suggest everyone backs up while she does this.
Elena waited for her friends and family to take several paces back before closing her eyes and concentrating. She thought about nothing else but saving Damon. She didn't let herself think of anything else but saving his life, and what she would need to save him. It still took quite a bit of time, but about ten or fifteen minutes later, two large white wings appeared from her back once more. "Thank God. Now what?"
"You'll need to remove a feather. Not from the edges. Those are sharp. Take from the middle. Then you'll place it against his bite," Klaus told her. He honestly couldn't be a hundred percent sure this would work. To his knowledge, it hadn't been used on a werewolf bite before. He'd actually seen this method used once.
Elena plucked a feather from the middle of her left wing. Once she did, she stared at it in awe for a few moments. She was holding a father from a pair of wings that were growing out of her back. Even after all that she'd seen, that was the most shocking thing to ever happen to her.
"A feather is supposed to heal my werewolf bite when nothing else can? Sure," Damon said sarcastically.
"I guess we'll find out," Elena said before taking a hold of Damon's arm and pulling up his sleeve. She then placed the feather on top of it and held it there. Much to everyone's shock, the bite slowly began to dissipate until it disappeared entirely.
Damon could hardly believe it as he stared at his arm in shock. His bite was gone, as were the symptoms that went with it. Elena had just healed a werewolf bite, which was said to be incurable, with a freaking feather.
"You just healed him with a feather," Bonnie said to Elena in disbelief.
Elena shuddered. She was glad she was able to heal Damon, but this was terrifying. She had a pair of wings on her back that were both capable of violence and healing.
Elena managed to calm down enough to put away her wings before she turned to Klaus and Elijah. They were the only ones who seemed to have any idea about any of this. "What happened to me last night? What am I?"
"Questions for when we're in private. Let's get going. A deal's a deal, right?" Klaus asked.
Elena nodded almost numbly. At this point, it wasn't even about her deal with Klaus. She would've gone anyway. He was the only one that could answer her questions.
Damon got up and took Elena by the arm. "No way in Hell! I don't care what deal she made with you. She's not going with you!"
Klaus laughed. "Careful, Damon. You just survived a brush with death. I don't think the odds of you surviving another are very good. See, the girl is untouchable, but the rest of you are far game."
"What do you mean I'm untouchable? Are you saying you're not capable of killing me anymore?" Elena asked. This became more and more terrifying by the moment. Klaus was supposed to be the most powerful vampire in the world, yet he was telling her he didn't have the power to kill her.
"At this point, I probably could, though it would be much more difficult. No, you're untouchable because of your father," Klaus said.
"What?" John asked in confusion.
"Oh, sorry, mate, not you. You are not her father," Klaus said bluntly before turning back to Elena, who didn't seem too surprised by the information. "Any you've already figured that out, haven't you, sweetheart."
"I considered the possibility," Elena said quietly. He was hard not to. She had grown appendages on her back that wouldn't exist if she were human. Of course, she considered the possibility that her parentage wasn't what she thought it was.
"Elena?" John questioned.
Elena turned to him and sighed. "I'm sorry, John, but this whole thing seems genetic. I didn't get it from you, and I doubt I got it from Isobel. That only leaves one explanation on how it happened. Isobel lied to you, John."
John could do nothing but look away with hurt laced in his eyes.
"That's all wonderful, but, you're still not doing this," Damon said firmly before increasing his grip on her arm.
"Yes, I am," Elena said before pulled his head off of he with ease.
Damon rubbed his arm after Elena let him go. It apparently was not that wolf bite that made her stronger than him. The way she grabbed his arm was actually slightly painful.
"Elena, I know I can't stop you, but please don't do this," Jenna begged.
"Aunt Jenna, I have to. I gave my word, but besides that, they are the only ones who can tell me what's happening to me," Elena said.
"Elena, you can't trust anything they say," Bonnie said.
Elena shrugged. "Klaus was telling the truth about me being able to save Damon. He knows about me, enough to know who my real father is apparently. I don't have any other choice but to trust him right now."
"Elena, we can find out another way," Stefan said.
Elena sighed. "Stefan, I love you, but this is my decision, not yours. I have to do this," she said before going over to Jenna and Jeremy and hugging them both. "I hope that I'll be home sometime soon, but I want you both to know I love you."
"I love you so much, Elena. I don't agree with your decision to do this, but I respect it. I don't know if I wouldn't do the same in your position. But please don't let your guard down around that man. Use whatever power you have to keep yourself safe if you need to," Jenna said.
"I will," Elena said before turning back to Stefan, who appeared behind her and pulled her into his arms. "This isn't over. We'll get you out of this."
"No, you won't. Do nothing. We barely managed to all survive last night. I don't want a repeat of that. I will take care of myself," Elena said before pulling away and walking over to Klaus and Elijah. "Let's go."
"Of course, Love," Klaus said with a smirk before gently taking her arm and leading her out of the room.
Chapter Text
Klaus led the way into his apartment and motioned for Elena to come inside. "Make yourself at home, Love."
Elena walked inside and looked around. "Where's Katherine."
"Well, under the circumstances, I had to cut her loose. She would be a bit of dead weight at the moment," Klaus said.
"You just let her go?" Elena asked surprised. Klaus had spent the last five hundred years chasing Katherine to make her suffer for costing him the sacrifice. It seemed hard to believe he'd just let her go.
"For now. Katerina and I will catch up again soon enough," Klaus said with a smirk.
"It's too bad. I was hoping to test that whole more powerful than vampire's thing," Elena said. If there was anyone she wanted to test that on, besides maybe Klaus, it was Katherine. That woman had caused her family and friends a lot of grief.
Klaus chuckled. "In due time, sweetheart. Make yourself comfortable," he said as he pointed to the couch.
Elena made no move to sit. "What do you want from me, Klaus? Why did you bring me here? You said that you'd tell me when we were alone."
"Yes, I suppose I did. To put it bluntly, love, you're here for your own protection," Klaus told her.
Elena laughed at the sheer absurdity of his words. "Protection? The only one I've needed protection from lately is you. Exactly who is it you think you're protecting me from?"
"Your so-called friends," Klaus told her.
"What?" Elena asked, caught off guard. "My friends are not a danger to me."
"When you were human, you may have been correct," Elijah began. "However, last night you entered a new world."
"I've been part of the supernatural world for months, Elijah," Elena said.
"As a human. It is entirely different to enter it as a supernatural creature. Those you care about will view you differently," Elijah said.
"Most of them are supernatural creatures. Why would they look at me differently?" she asked.
"Because you're not like them. I don't mean to upset you, but even to supernatural creatures you are different. Neither vampires nor your witch friend have ever seen anything like you. Very few have," Elijah explained as gently as he could. He didn't want to frighten her, but she needed to understand that the world would see her differently now. Most that knew what she was would be very unkind to her.
Elena swallowed as she tried to take in what she was being told. She didn't believe her friends would ever turn on her, but it was still very frightening for her to realize that she was strange even to the supernatural world. "You have. You and Klaus knew what I was. Klaus knew that I could heal Damon. He said he knew my father."
"I do. Elijah and I both met him centuries ago. We owe him quite a debt, in fact. That's why I intended to make sure his daughter was protected," Klaus told her.
Elena stopped paying attention after he said immortal. Her mind was stuck on that one word. She supposed she shouldn't be surprised. It was clear to her that whoever her father was wasn't human. Still, she hadn't let herself think much about that fact. "He's immortal. Does that mean I am too?"
"I don't know. Unlike him, you're part human. I don't know what your lifespan would be like. That's one of the many questions you'll have to ask him," Klaus told her.
"Who is he? And how do you even know that he's my father? Is there no one else like him?" Elena asked.
"There are others like him, but only he has certain traits. Your eyes glowed red. You could have only gotten that from him," Elijah told her.
"Who is he?" Elena asked again.
"His name is Lucifer. That's all the information I can give you until I speak with him. It is up to him to explain things to you in his own way," Klaus said.
Elena laughed bitterly. "You're respecting someone else's rights?"
Klaus shrugged. "I respect those who have earned it.
"Perhaps it's time for you to contact him, Niklaus. I assume you know how to contact him," Elijah said.
"I do. I crossed paths with him again several years ago. Of course, he wasn't too thrilled to hear from me. I doubt he will be now either," Klaus said.
"Let me guess. He didn't take too kindly to your tendency to murder anyone who crossed your path," Elijah said.
Klaus smirked in response. "Well, I'm sure any grievances will be forgiven soon enough."
Elijah turned to Elena as soon as his brother left the room. She didn't look so good. She was clearly overwhelmed with everything that had happened in the last twenty-four hours. "You should sit down now, Elena."
Elena let him guide her over to the couch where she sat down. She was glad Elijah was here. She didn't trust Klaus, but she trusted Elijah, at least to some degree.
"Would you like something to drink?" Elijah asked.
Elena shook her head. "No, I'm okay. Well, not really, but nothing's going to help it."
Elijah sat down next to the young woman. "I can only imagine how difficult the last day has been for you, Elena. You have been through a lot. I'm afraid it doesn't threaten to get any better anytime soon."
"Do you really think my friends and family would turn on me because of what I am?" Elena asked with slight worry in her voice. She didn't want to believe that that could happen, but she also couldn't dismiss it as impossible either. She knew that at least a couple of them were not fans of certain supernatural creatures. John and Bonnie came to mind the most. Both pretty much hated vampires. Bonnie wasn't as bad as John, but she only really tolerated Stefan and Caroline. What would any of them think about her? They didn't even have a name for what to call her yet.
"I don't know. I would certainly hope that your friends would have more loyalty to you, but difference can bring out the worst in people. People shy away from what they perceive as abnormal," Elijah said as gently as he could.
Elena shuddered. "And I'm abnormal."
"Elena There is nothing wrong with being unlike the rest of the world. Being unique should never be considered a bad thing. Unfortunately, most don't see it that way. You will likely have a harder time because of that," Elijah said sadly. It wasn't just that, though. Elena was the child of the devil. That by itself came with its own stigma. He wouldn't be the one to tell her about that, though. That was something Lucifer would need to discuss with her.
"I'm starting to feel really alone," Elena said quietly.
"You are not alone, Elena. I know it's difficult to trust us, but Niklaus and I will do whatever we can to help you. And as soon as he finds out, your father will come as well," Elijah assured her.
" My father. That's really difficult for me to comprehend. Until recently, I thought Grayson Gilbert was my father. I had only just started to come to terms with the fact that my father was a really his brother. Now I have another father that I don't even know," Elena said. This was all so overwhelming. She didn't even know what life changing revelation she was supposed to deal with first.
"I'm sorry. I know this must be extremely difficult for you. I wish I could help you with it, but I don't think I can," Elijah said.
Elena rubbed her eyes. She was exhausted. She hadn't slept more than an hour or so here and there since before the botched sacrifice. Too much had been on her mind for her to sleep much at all.
"You're obviously very tired. I can only imagine that sleep hasn't come easy for you lately. You should lay down. I will get you a blanket and pillow and you can sleep. Nothing will happen tonight," Elijah said before standing up.
Elena kicked off her shoes and stretched out on the couch. She was too tired to even consider arguing. "Thank you, Elijah."
Elijah nodded before leaving the room.

Lucifer Morningstar walked behind the bar at LUX to get himself a drink. He wasn't in the best of spirits. He'd been anxious ever since the detective found out the truth about him and left town about a week ago. Clearly, she hadn't taken the truth about him very well. He wasn't even sure she planned to come back.
Lucifer was pouring himself a drink when he heard his bartender on the phone.
"This is LUX. Yeah, sure. He's actually right here," the bartender said before turning to Lucifer. "Hey, boss, you got a phone call."
"Pass it on to the manager. I'm not interested in whoever it is," Lucifer said. The only person he was interested in talking to was the detective, and he knew it wasn't her on the phone. She would have called him directly.
"He's asking for you personally. He says it's important and that your old friends. He says his name is Klaus," the bartender said.
Lucifer's eyes darkened. That wasn't a name he expected to or wanted to hear. The last time he'd seen Klaus was right after he'd come back from Hell. They hadn't parted on good terms. "Give me the phone."
The bartender did so and then walked away to go do something else.
Lucifer pressed the phone to his ear. "You've got a lot of nerve calling me. I told you I didn't want to hear from you again."
"Hello, Lucifer. It's so wonderful to hear from you again," Klaus said.
"What do you want, Niklaus? I am all out of favors for you," Lucifer said coldly.
"I'm not calling for a favor. I'm calling to return one. I recently returned to my hometown and came across something that will interest you," Klaus said.
"I find that difficult to believe given that your hometown is in a small town in the middle of Virginia. Well, go on anyway. You'd better not be wasting my time though," Lucifer warned. He listened intently to what the other man had to say. When he was done, Lucifer was completely shocked. In fact, he wasn't entirely certain he believed Klaus. He was being told there was a teenage girl in Virginia with his abilities. Not just his wings or powers, but also his red eyes. Klaus hadn't said the words yet, but the implication was clear. He believed this girl was his daughter. "What you are saying is impossible. My kind is not capable of such a thing."
"Well, then perhaps you can come up with another explanation for why this young woman has all of your abilities. For why her wings and her eyes look almost identical to yours," Klaus said.
Lucifer didn't have another explanation. There was no reason he could think of for this girl to be anything like him. "Tell me exactly where you are. And if you are playing me for a fool, you will not live to regret it."
Lucifer listened as Klaus gave him his address. "Expect me sometime tomorrow," he said before hanging up. He could get there sooner if he used his wings, but he wanted the extra time it would take to fly there. He needed to wrap his head around all of this before he met this young woman.
Chapter Text
Elena woke up the next morning on the couch. Her recollections of the night before quickly came back. She was with Klaus and Elijah. She supposed it was too much to ask for leaving with them to have been a dream. Actually, if she was wishing for something to be a dream, she would like the last couple of days to be a dream. Unfortunately, that didn't seem to be happening.
Elena looked around the room. She didn't see Klaus or Elijah anywhere. She wasn't sure how long she'd be alone, so she decided to take the opportunity to contact her family and friends. She pulled out her phone and called Stefan.
"Elena?" Stefan asked in a worried tone.
"Yeah. Talk quietly. I don't know if Klaus and Elijah can hear you over the phone," Elena said, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Are you okay? Have they done anything?" Stefan asked quietly.
"I'm fine. Klaus doesn't want to hurt me. He brought me here because he thinks he's somehow protecting me," Elena told him.
"Elena, if he told you that, he's lying," Stefan said.
"I don't think so. Klaus knows my biological father. I think they're friends, or at least were friends," Elena said. Honestly, that kind of worried her. What kind of person could her father be to be friends with someone like Klaus. Then again, Elijah had insinuated that her father no longer spoke to Klaus because of the kind of person he was.
Before anything else could be said, she felt her phone being yanked out of her hand. She turned to see Klaus behind her holding her phone. "Hey!"
Klaus brought the phone to ear. "Hello, Stefan. I'm afraid Elena has to go. Bye."
"You're a dick!" Elena snapped once he hung up on Stefan. She then reached for her phone, which Klaus immediately held out of her reach.
"We had a deal, sweetheart," Klaus reminded her.
Elijah came out at that moment.
"Yes, and I kept my end of it. I came here with you. Not talking to my friends wasn't part of the deal," Elena said.
"Well, you consider it a part of the deal now. No calls," Klaus said firmly before putting her phone in his pocket.
"Elena, try to understand that we are only trying to keep you safe," Elijah said.
"My friends are not a danger to me. I don't care what you guys say, they won't turn on me," she said. That's what she kept telling herself anyway. She had to believe that they wouldn't abandon her. She had to at least believe that of Stefan and her family.
"I hope you're right, but right now, you can't fully defend yourself, so we have to look out for you," Elijah said.
"At least until your father arrives, which will be sometime today," Klaus said.
"Stop calling him that. My father was Grayson Gilbert. I don't even know this guy," Elena said.
"He's a good man, Elena. I promise you, he will only wish to help you," Elijah told her.
"What is he? What am I?" Elena asked.
"That is not for us to divulge. It's not our place, but you will have your answers today," Elijah promised.
"And until then, you will do as we say," Klaus said in a firm tone.
Elena glared at him. "Or what? You'll compel me? I'm wearing vervain."
"Which I can easily yank off your neck," he said threateningly.
"Or I could stab you again. Things aren't the way they were a few days ago," Elena said. Maybe she was being a little arrogant, but she wasn't going to bow down to this man anymore. She was sick of his threats to her and her loved ones.
Klaus looked at her for a minute. She wasn't wrong. Things were much different than they were before the sacrifice, which meant he might not even be able to compel her now. He couldn't compel Lucifer. "Take off your necklace, Elena."
"You're crazy if you think I'm doing that," Elena said.
"Niklaus, you will not compel her. She's done everything we've asked, and you know Lucifer will not be pleased," Elijah said. If Lucifer coveted one thing, it was free will. He would not be happy if they took that from his daughter.
"I don't want to compel her, I want to see if she can be compelled," Klaus told his brother.
"I'm not letting you compel me, even as a test," Elena said firmly. She didn't know what Klaus would ask her to do. For all she knew, he would use the opportunity to get her to do whatever he wanted. She didn't trust him.
"Will you allow me to do it. If we're right, it will give you the peace of mind of knowing you can never be compelled again. I promise I will only ask you to stand up and cross the room," Elijah told her.
Elena hesitated. She trusted Elijah much more than she did Klaus. If he promised not to take advantage, he would keep his word. She still didn't like the idea of being compelled though. However, it would be nice to know she didn't have to worry about being compelled anymore, provided that their theory was right. Reluctantly, Elena unhooked her necklace and placed it down on the table.
"Thank you," Elijah said before kneeling down in front of her and looking at her directly in the eyes. "Elena, stand up and walk over to the window."
Elena slowly began to smile. "No."
"Well, that's good to know, even if it is inconvenient," Klaus said.
Elena sighed in relief. She was glad to know she no longer needed to worry about keeping her necklace on her at all times or not having some sort of vervain on her or in her system at all times. She didn't have to worry about it being ripped off of her. She couldn't be compelled anymore. "Thank you."
Elijah looked at the necklace that was now on the coffee table. It looked familiar. He'd seen the necklace on Elena before, but he'd never gotten this close a look before. The closest he'd gotten before was when he ripped if off of Elena to compel her, and he hadn't really cared enough to pay attention to anything other than the fact that it had vervain in it. "Elena, may I see you necklace for a moment."
"Sure. Just let me take the vervain out," Elena said before picking up the necklace and removing the piece of vervain in it. She then handed it to Elijah.
"Where did you get it?" Elijah asked as he looked it over.
"Stefan gave it to me. He was worried Damon would try to compel me, so he put vervain in it and asked me to wear it. Why?" Elena asked.
"I'm fairly certain this belonged to my mother," Elijah said.
"Let me see," Klaus said before taking the necklace. He stared at it for a few minutes. "Huh. It does look like the thing Rebekah was always wearing. She must have given it to Stefan after their little fling."
"Who the hell is Rebekah?" Elena asked.
"Our sister. She was traveling alone with Niklaus for a while before he daggered her," Elijah said before sending a glare his brother's way.
"Stefan gave me a necklace belonging to another woman?" Elena asked with an edge to her voice. She didn't consider herself to be very jealous, but she also didn't like the fact that her boyfriend had given her a necklace he got from a past flame.
Klaus chuckled as he saw the young woman's eyes flash red for a second. "There's your father's temper. In Stefan's defense, he doesn't remember. I compelled him to forget meeting us."
Elena rolled her eyes. "Of course. Keep the necklace. It belongs to you, and I don't want something from Stefan's ex, even if he doesn't remember her.
"Shall I get you some breakfast, Elena? I'm sure you must be hungry, and I believe we have a long wait ahead of us," Elijah said.
"That would be great. Thank you, Elijah," Elena said.
Elijah nodded before leaving the room.

By the time he got to Mystic Falls, Lucifer deeply regretted taking his private plane instead of using his wings. At first, he'd wanted the extra time to think about this girl that might be his daughter, but after just a short time, it just started to agitate him. All he could do was think about how terrifying it would be to be a father. He didn't even like kids, and while this girl wasn't exactly a child, he hated teenagers even more. He didn't even know what he would do with a child. He didn't know how to be a father. The only example he had was his own, and that was a very poor example. What if he failed her.
Lucifer tried to calm himself down as he neared Niklaus' apartment. He didn't even know yet that the girl was his daughter. The very idea seemed impossible. Niklaus could be lying or wrong.
Lucifer stopped at the front door and took a deep breath before knocking. The door was opened a moment later by Elijah Mikaelson.
"Hello, Lucifer," Elijah said.
"Elijah," Lucifer greeted.
"Please come in," Elijah said before moving aside to let his old friend inside.
"I told your brother on the phone that the two of you had better not be playing me for a fool," Lucifer said as he walked inside.
Klaus stood up from the chair he was sitting in. "Hello, my friend. This is Elena."
Lucifer watched as a young woman got up from the couch and turned to him. One look at her, and he no longer had any doubt. She looked quite a bit like him, and somewhere inside him, he just knew. She was his daughter.
Chapter Text
Elena was silent as she stared at the man in front of her. She had no idea what to say. She didn't expect to be this nervous. It wasn't like this when she saw John again after deducing that he was her biological father. She supposed that could be because she had known him her whole life and wasn't all that fond of him. This man was a mystery to her. The only thing she knew about him was that he probably wasn't human.
Elena cleared her throat after several minutes of awkward silence. She decided one of them had to break the ice. "Hi. I'm Elena Gilbert."
Lucifer tore his gaze from his newfound daughter and turned to Klaus and his brother. "Leave."
Klaus and Elijah nodded before heading towards the door.
Elena watched the two originals leave in surprise. She wouldn't have expected either of them to take orders from anybody. They were the most powerful beings she had ever met. Yet they didn't even blink when her biological father asked them to leave. She found herself both impressed and terrified.
"Niklaus," Lucifer called out before the two brothers could leave. He waited for the blonde to turn back to him. "Don't think I haven't noticed her resemblance to the woman you asked me to find for you centuries ago. We will speak soon," he said in a dangerous tone.
Klaus nodded before he and Elijah left the house.
Lucifer held out his hand for the young woman. "Lucifer Morningstar."
Elena stared at him in shock as she shook his hand. Until now, she'd been trying to tell herself that the man's first name was a coincidence. She would have to be an idiot not to have noticed the correlation between his first name and the name of the devil. However, she told herself that had to be a coincidence, despite the fact that she now had wings on her back like an Angel. Her own father couldn't be the devil, right? However, the last name, Morningstar, was a little too much to be coincidental. "Your full name is Lucifer Morningstar? I know I will sound crazy for even asking this, but are you the devil?"
Lucifer laughed, impressed with the young woman. "You're the first person to ever ask me that. Most people assume that it's a metaphor or that I'm insane. Yes, I am the devil."
Elena went and sat down before her legs gave out. She probably shouldn't be this surprised to hear that. It wasn't like the supernatural world was new to her. Half of her friends were vampires and she had wings on her back now. Still, finding out her father was the devil himself was the most shocking thing to ever happen to her. "You're the devil. So that makes me the Antichrist?"
Lucifer chuckled. "No. There's no such being as the Antichrist. Humans come up with some strange things in their literature. The supposed Antichrist is one of the most ridiculous theories. Truthfully, I didn't know any Angel could reproduce until I found out about you. To my knowledge, it's never been done before."
"Great. Elijah was right. I'm strange even to the supernatural world. What am I?" Elena asked.
Lucifer went and sat down in a chair next to the couch. "A Nephilim. It's the term for a half human half Angel child."
Elena nodded, taking in the information.
"You seem to be taking this quite well considering. I expected more shock and disbelief," Lucifer said. She was certainly shocked, but he expected more. The other people who would learn the truth about him were either shocked, silent, or ran away. Elena was doing neither of those things.
"The supernatural world isn't new to me. I've been around vampires for almost a while. Still, finding out the devil is real and that I'm his daughter is a lot different. I'm not even sure I believed the devil was real until today," Elena said.
"Well, if it makes you feel any better, the devil you've been taught about isn't real. Humans like to vilify me. They like to make me responsible for their sins. The truth is I merely punished the guilty," Lucifer told her.
"I've learned by now that I can't judge a creature based on what I've heard about them. Vampires are said to all be evil, but I know that that's not true. It actually doesn't surprise me that the same can be said about you," Elena said. She considered herself an open-minded person. She had to be with everything she'd seen. She wasn't willing to believe something just because legend said it was true.
Lucifer was becoming more and more impressed with the girl that was supposedly his daughter. He'd never known anyone to react to him the way she had. Everyone who found out about him reacted badly. Linda had come around several days after finding out, but even she didn't have the kind of reaction that Elena did. "How many vampires do you know. It's not just Elijah and Niklaus, is it?"
Elena shook her head. "No, I've met many vampires. Some of them have been awful, but others end up being good people. I think it's like humans. Some of them are good and some aren't"
"Most people have never met one vampire, let alone several," Lucifer commented.
Elena chuckled. "Mystic Falls seems to attract them. Plus, I'm a doppelganger. That seems to attract them to me as well." Honestly, almost all the vampires she'd met came looking for her because of her being a doppelganger. Even Stefan and Damon were originally drawn to her because she looked like Katherine.
"Yes, I noticed that. Has Niklaus harmed you at all?" Lucifer asked.
"No, but not for lack of trying. The reason I found out I wasn't human is because my wings showed up right before Klaus planned to sacrifice me to remove his curse.
Lucifer's eyes immediately flashed red with rage. He had a feeling that the Mikaelson brothers had gotten involved because of Elena's status as a doppelganger. Well, they would pay for trying to harm her.
Elena was taken slightly aback by the redness in her biological father's eyes, but she quickly recovered from the surprise. "I guess that's what I look like every time someone says my eyes turn red."
"He will be punished for that," Lucifer swore.
"If it makes you feel better, I kind of already made him regret it. When my wings manifested, I flung him away and cut his arm," Elena said.
Lucifer smiled with pride. "Good. I assume he's been holding you hostage since."
"No, not exactly. I got away from him, but the next day he found me. I actually came with him and Elijah willingly. Klaus agreed to help me save a friend of mine in exchange for me coming with them. He told me later that it was to protect me from my friends. He believes they'll turn on me because I'm different," Elena explained.
That made Lucifer slightly less angry at the originals, but they would still suffer for trying to harm his daughter. At least they'd tried to protect her when they realized who she was to him though. "Unfortunately, darling, Niklaus might be right about that. Most people will only need to hear that you're the devil's daughter to turn on you."
Elena flinched a little at his words. "Well, you're definitely brutally honest."
"Absolutely. I don't lie to anyone. You certainly will not be the first person I start with. You're better off knowing the truth. I'm not saying your loved ones will definitely all turn on you, but it's almost guaranteed that at least some of them will. You need to be prepared for that. Even those that are already supernatural creatures may. I am vilified by all, including the supernatural. Unfortunately, you've likely inherited that," Lucifer said.
"This is a lot to take in," Elena said.
"Yes, for me as well. I never expected to be a parent. Even when Niklaus told me about you, I half expected him to be lying or mistaken. It wasn't until I saw you that I truly believed what he told me," Lucifer told her.
"I want to go for a walk. Can I do that or am I still forced to stay in this house?" Elena asked.
"No, you may go where you wish. I certainly have no business stopping you from doing as you please, but you should be careful of your emotions until you've learned to control your abilities. I also request that you not tell anyone what you've learned until then either." Lucifer said. He didn't trust anyone not to harm her if they knew she was his daughter, but at the same time, he wasn't going to impede her free will.
"I won't," Elena promised before getting up and heading for the door.
Chapter Text
Elena made her way back to her house. She figured she'd be alone, since the others were all staying at the boarding house the last she knew, but when she got inside, she found Jenna there.
"Elena, thank God," Jenna said before rushing to her niece's side and taking her into her arms.
"Aunt Jenna, I didn't think you'd be here," Elena said as she hugged her aunt.
Jenna pulled away after a moment. "Well, I figured it was okay to come home. We were only staying with Stefan and Damon because we were all worried about Klaus, but he got what he wanted when you agreed to leave with him. How are you here, by the way? He didn't let you go, did he?"
"Not exactly, but you don't have to worry about him," Elena said. At least she didn't think they had to worry about Klaus anymore. He seemed to only want her with him as some sort of loyalty to Lucifer. If Lucifer was willing to let her go, Klaus shouldn't care.
"Stefan mentioned that he talked to you, but that Klaus caught you on the phone. We were all worried," Jenna said.
Elena nodded. "Yeah, he wasn't happy, but he didn't do anything. He's not a threat to me anymore."
"You seem very sure about that," Jenna commented.
"I am. Klaus was friends with my biological father. He wanted me with him as some sort of way of protecting me. And I know how ironic that is, given that just a few days ago Klaus wanted to sacrifice me," Elena said. She wasn't sure how or why Klaus and Lucifer were friends, but she'd heard the respect in Klaus' and Elijah's voices when they spoke about or to Lucifer.
"What exactly did he think he was protecting you from?" Jenna asked. She had a hard time believing that Klaus wanted to protect her niece, but if he did, she couldn't see what Elena needed protection from.
"From all of you. He and Elijah are afraid you guys will all turn on me if you find out what I am and where I came from," Elena told her.
"Elena, I hope you know that that would never happen. I think I can understand where the originals are coming from, because the world is cruel, but there's nothing that could ever turn me against you. You're my niece, blood or not," Jenna said firmly.
Elena shuddered a bit. "You don't know what I am, Aunt Jenna. You don't know who my biological father is."
"And I don't need to. You could be related to the devil himself, and I wouldn't care."
Elena laughed at the accuracy of her aunt's statement.
"I gather that you've learned at least some of what you wanted to find out," she said.
Elena nodded. "I can't talk about it right now though. I met my biological father, and he asked me not to share the information I learned from him yet. He's afraid people will turn on me too. I know you won't, Jenna, but there are some that will. John will. Where is he anyway?"
"I don't know. He left the boarding house not long after you did. None of us have seen him since," Jenna explained.
"I shouldn't be surprised, I guess. He was only around because he thought he was my father. There was no reason to stay and support me after finding out he wasn't. It shouldn't bother me. I never even liked John," Elena said.
"Of course, it should bother you. Whether you liked him or not, he was always family to you. For months you thought he was your father. Even if you didn't treat him like that, it still would hurt that he'd just walk away," Jenna said. She had been pissed when John disappeared. She could understand him being upset that Isobel had lied to him, but Elena was still his family. She was still the girl raised as his niece. He should care what happened to her.
Elena shrugged. "It's probably for the best anyway. Like I said, he would have definitely turned on me. Others might too." She hadn't wanted to believe it, but finding out she was the Devil's daughter did change things. There were people who wouldn't see her the same. She definitely worried that Bonnie would be one of them. She wasn't sure her friend would be able to look past what she was. She hated most vampires because of what they were. Elena wasn't sure it would be any different with her.
"I find that hard to believe, but if you're right, you're better off without them. Anyone who would turn on you isn't a real friend. They can go to hell if they won't support you," Jenna said strongly.
"Even if Alaric is one of them?" Elena asked. She prayed Ric wouldn't turn on her, but she had to consider the possibility. He was a vampire hunter. He was another one that didn't do well with the supernatural. Although he was a little better than Bonnie. He was friends with Damon.
"Damn straight," Jenna said without missing a beat. "Anyone that would turn on you at the drop of a hat is not someone I want in my life. If he can't accept my niece, he can't be a part of my life."
"Thanks. Where is Ric anyway?"
"I sent him home. He means well, but he was kind of hovering. I needed a little bit of space," Jenna said.
In that moment, Elena realized that she had been so focused on herself that she hadn't considered her aunt's situation. Jenna had just recently been turned into a vampire, and she hadn't had time to adjust to it. So much had been happening all at once. "Jenna, I'm so sorry. I haven't stopped to think about what you've been going through."
Jenna waved off her apology. "No, Elena, don't apologize. You've been going through a lot in the last week. Actually, you've been going through a lot for months. You went from thinking you were about to be sacrificed to having supernatural powers. Of course, you were thinking about yourself."
"You just got supernatural powers too. You haven't had time to deal with the fact that you're now a vampire. How are you doing?" Elena asked.
"It's not easy, but I'm getting through it. Caroline and I have been talking a lot. She's been helping me get used to everything. She dropped off a bunch of blood bags for me. I've been trying to avoid a lot of human interaction. I even had Jeremy stay with Stefan and Damon a little longer, just in case," Jenna explained. She couldn't take the chance of accidentally hurting her nephew. Most of the time she was fine, but she didn't want to risk it.
"I'm so sorry this happened to you, Aunt Jenna," Elena said. She felt responsible for Jenna being turned. Her aunt was only turned to be used in a sacrifice with Elena. If it weren't for the fact that Klaus needed her dead, Jenna would be fine right now.
"Elena, this is not your fault. Besides, I'm okay. Being a vampire might not be what I expected or wanted, but I can live with it. We're both going to have to acclimate to a new normal. We can figure it out together," Jenna said with a smile.
Elena smiled back. "I'd really like that."
"Are you staying here tonight?" Jenna asked.
Elena shook her head. "I kind of gave the impression that I would go back to Klaus'. I think I should, at least for tonight."
Jenna wasn't exactly thrilled to hear that, but it was her niece's decision. If Elena believed that she was safe with these people, Jenna would have to trust her. "Are you going to see Stefan first?"
"No. Stefan will want to know everything that I found out, and I can't tell him that yet," Elena said. Not only had she agreed not to say anything, but she wasn't ready to tell anyone yet. She wasn't ready to face whatever they had to say about it. She had barely begun to deal with it herself. But she knew that Stefan would likely not respect that. He would try to push her to tell him everything. "By the way, thank you for not pushing me to tell you."
"I know you're going through a lot, Elena. You'll tell me what's going on when you're ready. Besides, it doesn't matter to me what you found out. Nothing you found out changes the fact that you're my niece and I love you. I would like to meet this man that's supposedly your biological father though. I want to know that you're safe around him," Jenna said firmly. She was still Elena's legal guardian and more importantly, she was still her aunt. She needed to know that she was safe. As it was, it was taking everything she had not to stop Elena from leaving tonight.
Elena nodded. "I'll do my best to make that happen, but I'm not sure when I can do it. In the meantime, will you do me a favor and call Stefan? I can't talk to him yet, but I need him to know that I'm okay."
"Of course, and I'll make sure he understands that you need some space."
"Thank you. I'm going to grab some clothes and then I'm gonna head out. Are you sure you're going to be okay here alone?" Elena asked.
"Yeah, I'll be fine. Ric is calling about a dozen times a day anyway. And like I said, I'm in touch with Caroline. I only want you to worry about keeping yourself safe," Jenna said.
"I will," Elena promised before heading up towards her bedroom.
Xxxxxxxxxxx
Klaus and Elijah walked back into the apartment to find Lucifer there by himself. "Where's Elena?" Klaus asked.
The words barely left Klaus' lips before Lucifer flashed over to him and grabbed him by the neck. His eyes were bright red as he lifted the younger being up off the ground.
Klaus latched onto the hand holding his neck. There were very few beings able to exert this type of power over him, but Lucifer was always one of them. He was barely able to speak his next words. "I didn't know."
"You tried to murder my child!" Lucifer snarled.
Elijah approached Lucifer, but was very careful not to intervene too much. "Lucifer, I know this isn't much of an excuse, but it is true that Niklaus did not know that Elena was your daughter. The moment he realized that, he did everything in his power to protect her."
"And you can consider that the only reason I don't test whether I have the ability to kill him!" Lucifer said before releasing his grip on the original's neck. He then watched as Klaus hit the ground hard. He honestly didn't know if he had the power to kill the originals. He'd never been tempted to try until now. The only thing he knew for sure was that he was more powerful than them.
"We would never disrespect you by intentionally trying to harm your daughter. Niklaus made a mistake," Elijah said.
"Not his first. Did your brother tell you that it was me that gave him the whereabouts of Katerina Petrova? He failed to mention that he intended to sacrifice her," Lucifer said while glaring daggers at the original still struggling on the floor. He never would have helped Niklaus if he'd known that. He didn't condone murder. He grudgingly accepted the fact that the originals did sometimes kill for their survival, but he didn't like it. This was different though. Niklaus had intended to use that girl as a sacrifice to end a curse.
Elijah glowered at his brother as he picked himself up off the ground. He hadn't known that. Niklaus never told him how he located Katerina. If he'd known his brother was going to do that, he would have stopped him. Trying to deceive Lucifer was never a good idea. "So that is how you managed to burn that particular bridge."
Klaus said nothing in response. He wouldn't admit it, but he knew that that had been a mistake. He had been desperate to get rid of his curse, but alienating Lucifer wasn't worth it.
Lucifer approached the younger original until their faces were inches apart. "If you ever try to harm Elena again, I will make it my life's mission to find a way to send you to hell. And I promise that your stay there will be far from pleasant."
"I have no intention of hurting her, Lucifer. I brought her here to protect her for you. I only wish to make up for my mistakes," Klaus said. He wouldn't deny that he saw this as an opportunity to get back into Lucifer's good graces.
"Good. You will start by aiding me in protecting Elena at all costs," Lucifer said. They were in a town riddled with vampires. He was not sure he would be able to protect her on his own.
"We will. But do you understand what that might mean?" Klaus asked. Protecting her might mean killing, something Lucifer was vehemently against.
"I do. If you must spill blood in order to protect her, so be it, but only as a last resort," Lucifer said. With the exception of Cain and his brother, Uriel, he had never taken part in killing, but this was his daughter. He would do what was necessary to keep her safe.
"Agreed. Where is she?" Klaus asked.
"She needed to clear her head, so she went for a walk. She will no longer be prohibited from doing what she wishes. I want her safe, but I will not impede her free will," Lucifer said.
"We understand," Elijah said before his brother could protest. "I assume you plan to remain here for now."
"Yes. I will have to arrange more suitable accommodations tomorrow," Lucifer said. He would obviously be staying in Mystic Falls for a while. He needed to be close to Elena, and he wasn't going to ask her to leave.
"Allow us to help you with that. We will need to do the same since we will apparently be staying for a while," Klaus said.
"Very well," Lucifer said before removing his suit coat. He placed it on the couch and sat down to wait for Elena to come back.
