Thou, Child of Turbulent Currents

Summary:

Poseidon rules over the sea.

Abyssal Water and its turbulent current include. The leftover of his realm as Posedao, the Ruler of Underworld.

Poseidon is known as Father of Monsters. Simply because most of his children are born as monsters.

It was only natural that Percy Jackson was born with darkness befitting the deep sea.

Work Text:

Poseidon is known as Father of Monsters, sharing the title with Typhoon. All due majority of his kids turned out as monsters.

Poseidon is not quite Posedao, he is a milder wave compared to his ancient form’s turbulent water, but he is still the King of the Sea and rules over the vast ocean. Abyss and Depth of the Seas include.

As such, Percy did not feel shame when a trident gleamed above a baby cyclops’ head.

After all, who to say he is less monster than the Cyclops?

What stirred his water is the sniggers and slander and condescending look from mere half-blood.

The barely veiled insult from the old carcass that somehow Olympus saw fit to release from Hades’ grips and inflict upon the Halflings.

And the halflings. Oh, the halflings. They claim that they can see the resemblance.

Are they prepared to see how much monster Percy Jackson is?

No.

The answer is a solid “no, they aren’t”

They are a bunch of foolish big-mouthed kids who have no idea just what kind of higher power they’re trifling with.

Especially Tantalus.

Oh foolish Tantalus who fathered the House of Atreus! The house of tragedy!

He thinks that Percy is a mere Son of Poseidon. An unimportant halfling who is only special because his father rules the sea. A mindset born from an era where gods gallivanting with mortals is not a rare occurrence.

He certainly lacks the knowledge that Percy’s blood is more gold than red. Lack the understanding of why he and the children of Demeter had a permanent alliance.

Fool in life, fool in death; indeed.

.

The swift-footed messenger is visiting him with a request.

A foolish request.

“Are you that fond of self-inflicted pain?” He asks, amused but also pitying.

Hermes the Messenger and Heralds of Gods look at him.

“One does not simply give up on family.” He replied firmly.

“Family, huh.” Percy mused. “What if he rejects you? What if he disowns you as his father?”

Hermes was silent.

“Hey. Answer me, Ermaha.”

The god’s breath hitched.

“Do not,” he whispers, “call me that.”

Oh, Percy’s brows were raised, and a sly smirk played on his lips.

He stood up and reach for the god’s face. Pulling him close.

“Er-ma-ha.”

He watches in fascination as Hermes shuddered. His form subtly shifted into something older. Something wilder.

“Name has power, Perseus Jackson.” Hermes’ voice is out of breath. “Do not. Play. With it. Just do as I asked.”

And he flashed away. Leaving Percy alone on the beach, with a dark smirk on his face.

“Who said I was playing? Or that I do not understand?”

.

Indeed, boarding the ship alone, after asking his sister to host the baby Cyclops and put him under the Fire Forge’s guardianship in the meantime, had been the wise decision.

Ermaha asks for him personally. Thus he won’t bother others.

Hearing the traitor openly reject his father’s goodwill, one sentence away from renouncing his parentage, filled Perseus with amusement and anger.

Luke Castellan is a fool who does not understand exactly what power he wields. Does not understand what is he to Hermes.

Percy would take utmost pleasure to show him what he did wrong.

Seeing a pair of grey eyes glaring hatefully at him does not surprise him.

That child of Athena is too full of herself. Ego born of having known the Daughter of Zeus and one of the senior campers, of being favored by Chiron the Centaur. To her, anything and anyone that disagree with her, has to be in the wrong and blemish upon this world that she had to correct.

Even if it means cahooting with the wrong sorts.

Foolish child of Wisdom.

How can you claim to be a daughter of wisdom if your head is filled with foolishness?

It was shameful that he did not take any heads while he was on the ship. Surely, dearest father would appreciate the offering.

.

The help from Daughter of war is unexpected, but a welcomed thing.

A monster and a bloodstained warrior. On a ship of the Dead. A perfect match.

As a gift of goodwill, Percy commanded the sea so they may have safe voyage. His only problem is his sister, the Charybdis, as they play a tug-o-war over control of the sea.

Percy Jackson is child of Posedao, Damate, and a mortal named Sally Jackson.

Charybdis is the daughter of Poseidon and Gaea.

In a way, they are similar being. Child of the Sea Father and the Earth Mother. A feat none of their siblings, save for the Queen Persephone or the swift-footed Arion, ever achieved.

Percy Jackson is the only one who can challenge Charybdis’ control.

Enough for the daughter of war and the undead crew to hurt her and relented the control.

.

Screams and sounds of building burned into the ground are music to Percy’s ears.

He had wished that Circe won’t do anything foolish. For she is daughter of Helios, who was wed to Rhode, a daughter of Poseidon.

True, she had never seen the true Mycenaean Gods in their glory. She never known the King Posedao, who rules the Sea and the Abyss alongside the gods. However, her father does. Percy had hoped Helios would, at the very least, cautioned her to never mess with children of the sea.

Alas. Someone do not listen.

Thus, ruining this island is the fair retribution.

After all, he does not appreciate of being turned into mere a guinea pig. A literal pig, or a boar, might lessen his anger. Pig or rather Swine, after all, is his Divine Mother’s preferred animal for offering.

.

Polyphemus is an embarrassment.

As a Cyclops. As a son of Poseidon.

Blind and stupid and incredibly foolish. Reliant on his laurel as Son of Poseidon.

When it was clear he cannot win, he turn to his father. Begging as if wronged.

How… laughable.

“Poseidon won’t answer your prayer.” Percy told him with a cold smile upon his lips. “Why? Because you are lesser and I’m superior.”

Polyphemus is son of Poseidon.

Percy Jackson is Son of Posedao.

Poseidon is an offshoot of Posedao. The God of the Sea who was stripped from his throne as King of Gods, who given up his throne as Caretaker of the Underworld to his daughter. A fragment of a whole being.

A large fragment, but still a fragment.

Therefore, between Percy and Polyphemus, their rankings had been long decided.

.

“He rejects you.”

Percy has the god pinned under him. The shadows and the vine bind the god in place.

“He rejects your kindness.” He repeats for Hermes. “He’s one sentence away from disowning you, Ermaha.”

“I’ve told you,” Hermes growled as he resist the change. “Stop. Calling me that.”

Percy smirked.

“Ermaha~ Ermaha~ Ermaha~ Ermaha~ Ermaha~ Ermaha~” He sing-songed. Taking delight as Hermes resists the change that came with the name.

Bending down, he whispers to the god’s ear,

“Perhuson.”

A low, primal growl came from the god as his feature shifted. A pair of short, curved, goat-like horns sprouted from his temple.

Don’t.” The god warned.

Percy tilted his head.

“Why? It was you, aren’t it? The whole, Ancient you. Before you were split into Ermaha and Pan.” He did a little digging, and his Divine immediate Family is delighted in telling him everything he want to know about Ancient History. “Oh. Is it about the Pan? It has to be your Pan half, isn’t it? The missing one?”

“Perseus Jackson. If you value your life, shut the hell up.”

Giggling, Percy told him, “Don’t worry, Ermaha. You will be reunited with your other half. One way or another.”

.

The Camp has no idea that Tantalus had tried to steal the Fleece.

Unfortunately for him, he had angered a monster wearing human skin.

Percy Jackson made it a personal mission to drag Tantalus to the deep woods. Under Dionysus watchful eyes of giggling madness, he sends the sinner back to Hades.

“Tell my precious uncle-slash-brother-in-law I say hi.”

Is what Percy whispered, right before he makes sure Tantalus’ final moments on the Camp are filled with pain.

Notes:

LORE TIME!

The earliest form of the name Hermes is the Mycenaean Greek "hermāhās" written in Linear B as E-ma-ha. Most scholars derive "Hermes" from Greek ἕρμα (herma), which means "stone heap." Since before statues were a thing, maybe people of Mycenaean Greece and older use bunch of stone heaps to mark the road. This connects to Hermes' domain as God of Boundaries, Roads, and Traveler.

According to a theory that has received considerable scholarly acceptance, Hermes originated as a form of the god Pan, who has been identified as a reflex of the Proto-Indo-European pastoral god Péh2usōn in his aspect as the god of boundary markers. Which, is interesting, considering both of them ARE god of Shepherds, and their cult is centralized in Arcadia (which also myth-wise, is where Hermes born). Also, Hermes' earlier cult was established in remote regions. Likely making him worshipped as a god of Nature, Farmer, and Shepherds. Now, Pan is associated with Nature. Frikking Neat.

I think Mycenaean is big on the whole chthonic deity thing, considering their top king and queen had a connection to the underworld. Either way, Hermes IS a cthonic deity via being psychopomp AKA the guy who deposits dead souls to Charon. As a chthonic god, Hermes' worship related to an aspect of Fertility, with phallus included in his symbols (no I'm not kidding. Ask Wiki). And guess what? Pan is also worshipped as Rustic God of Fertility.

They also share same Sacred Animal: Tortoise

Plus, Pan is depicted as half-man half goat, with horns and beard. and Classical Greece has Hermes depicted with a beard. Not athletic youth we get after Roman.

Fun Fact: word "all" in greek also "Pan" (example: Panacea, Pandemic, Pan-romantic...), and guess how many things in Hermes' Domain is.

So, here is it. The Ancient God Perhuson later would split into Hermes and Pan, giving them father-son relation.

Fun Fact 2: related to Pan translated as "all" the whole thing about Pan being dead can be read as misunderstanding/mistranslation. Maybe it wasn't "Thamus tell people that The God Pan is Dead" but "Thamus the all(insert something) is dead", which, is the aim I use in this fic. Someone go tell the satyrs that their god isn't dead, considering Hermes is very much alive thank you.

Fun Fact 3: Strawberry Tree is considered sacred plant to Hermes. And Camp Half Blood grows Strawberries
