Work Text:

lonesome little lottie
drowns her sorrows in a flask;
"no, i'm fine" ready up her sleeve
for anyone who asks.
fragile little lottie
sucking on a cigarette,
a kitten in her cubicle
so easy to forget.

frightened little lottie
in the bin where she belongs,
she doesn't see her sammy's mine
he's singing all my songs.
stupid little lottie
got all tied up in her sin;
i can't believe some ballad was
enough to lure her in!

charlotte, there's no need to cry,
you're getting what you wanted!
now no more hollowness inside;
your heart is getting haunted.
you've set up room for two and three,
just fit in one more beau!
charlotte, it's not you, it's me —
shut up and watch the show!

sweetheart little lottie,
hear how high the bitch can belt!
now sammy's singing by your side,
don't that just make you melt?
darling little lottie,
now her backup won't fall flat —
when you wished he'd stand by you
is this what you meant by that?

cheating little lottie,
kick the bastard in the nuts!
remember when your teddy said
he'd rearrange your guts?
spiteful little lottie,
sloppy seconds left behind,
when you wished you could top him
is this what you had in mind?

charlotte, it is time to die,
now go and tell your friends
to join us on this front-row ride
to where the story ends.
no more teds to trick and truss,
no more bill and paul.
charlotte, it's not you. it's us.
and we will take them all.

Notes:

I've had this on the desk for months. I love Charlotte and I only enjoy being mean to her occasionally, which meant I wasn't always in the headspace to work on this. Here's an early stanza for you:

little lottie blunderbuss
you're right. this isn't you, it's us
didn't you always wish that he would
rearrange your guts?
fragile little lottie
all you knew to do was cry
sit back and shut your whore mouth
charlotte, it is time to die

I'm imagining what was happening in Charlotte's head in between Tied Up My Heart and Join Us and Die, wondering what it would have sounded like if the apotheosis was as harsh to her as it was to Bill in Not Your Seed. We know Pokey is willing to say anything to break a spirit, and I can believe there's a piece of Charlotte that's thought about hurting her lovers, her friends. Not that she'd mean it, of course, a thought is just a thought. But Pokey can use that, and so will I.

In my head Pokey's got the voice of a high school mean girl, the bully going from insults to "why are you hitting yourself?" to straight up hitting. Join Us and Die marks the point where the apotheosis loses its temper, and I tried to show that here by making the second half way harsher than the first. Pokey's out for blood now, and he's driving, so Charlotte's gonna have to shut up and watch.
