As Caine awoke and sat up, he idly noticed the warmth coming from his right. A welcomed presence as well as view.
There lay Pomni, tucked away under the covers and sleeping soundly. Being awake, her sweet face was always creased with worry and anxiety, body tense and shoulders raised. And yet asleep, her features softened and body relaxed. She truly was a sight to behold in Caine's opinion. Caine yearned to kiss away all her problems, yet he knew the very cause.
Being here.
Sure, they managed to scrape this little relationship together, and yet she was remained on constant lookout for an exit. If she found one, would she leave him? And sure, he did suppose she probably had a life outside of here, but he couldn't help but wonder. Could she ever love him enough to stay?
It hurt his heart to think that perhaps someday, she wouldn't be there with him. The possibility that she could or even would abandon him... Was not something he liked to think about.
In such a short time he had already grown rather attached to the little jester. They had a routine, and knew each other well; something he did not want to lose. It was the only thing he really had and he didn't know what would happen if she left, or worse...
Well, there was not point in worrying about it now, he tried to assure himself. It didn't do anyone any good to think about such trivial things. And yet, there remained a lingering feeling...
He was quickly snapped out of his thoughts by shuffling movement next to him, followed by a long, drawn out yawn. He glanced down to his right, heterochromatic eyes turning and of course, Pomni was peering back up at him. Her eyelashes fluttered, clearly trying to stay open yet heavy with sleep still weighing them down.
"Mornin," she mumbled, voice raspy from sleep. Caine, ever excited to talk to her, replied with an eager "Good morning, my dear Pomni! How was your sleep? Was it adequate?"
She shut her eyes and slid her head back under the covers with a 'too loud' on her lips. Yet there was no malice in her words, only sleepiness slurring them. She shuffled closer, possibly for warmth, laying her head on his lap.
"Ah of course," he said, quieter. He pulled the covers back before he pet her hair with his gloved hand, gentle yet loving.
A small smile graced her features, feeling the heat from his hand and adoration in his stare. For once, her adorable face wasn't clouded with fear or worry. Instead, it was brightened by fondness, an expression she reserved only for Caine. And oh, how he adored it.
Their love for each other was exceedingly clear, softening their features and bettering their moods simply by being near each other. Pomni was less restless and Caine was calmer. Invisible yet ever-present, their adoration of each other was so very strong.
It was a soft, pure kind of love. Never did either think they would find each other, and yet they had. They found each other, and they were never letting go.
"It was good," she eventually responded, voice soft. Caine nodded, content with her answer. He petted her more, and she leaned into his soft touch, silently asking for more. Caine happily obliged, smiling lazily at her reactions. He doted on her more, lavishing her in all the attention she wanted and more.
The rest of the morning was spent idly conversing, mentally preparing for the day and whatever came with it.
