Work Text:
will blew the steam from his mug, the smell of hot chocolate wafting through the cold night air. he decided he had enough wine for the night, resorting to hot chocolate
he sat on the balcony, overlooking the city, bustling with people. will was wrapped in a warm blanket, but not warm enough. he could hear the radio from inside the apartment, the music leaking from the cracks of the glass door.
'i'm headed straight for the floor,
the alcohol served its tour
and it's heading straight for my skin,
leaving me daft and dim.'
he sighed, taking a sip of his beverage, the drink drifting down his throat lazily. the city lights were on, bright and vivid, as if it was making up for the lack of stars in the gloomy night sky.
' i've got this shake in my legs,
shaking the thoughts from my head
but who put these waves in the door?
i crack and out i pour.'
will shook his head lightly, his eyes shut. the song was hitting to close to home. he let out a soft exhale, the cold winter air filling his vision. he stretched his legs, fidgeted with his fingers, the ring, anything to keep his mind busy.
'i'm mr. loverman,
and I miss my lover, man
i'm mr. loverman
oh, and I miss my lover.'
he let out a breathy laugh, leaning back against the glass. he shifted in his seat, uncomfortable in the dreary night. he closed his eyes.
"will! look, the strawberries ripened so quickly!" nico laughed, his eyes bright and full of joy. will chuckled, stepping out into the winter air, his toes freezing. the strawberries were bright red, the colours contrasting against the pale snow. he walked up to nico, hugging him from behind.
'the ways in which you talk to me,
have me wishin' i were gone
the ways that you say my name,
have me runnin' on and on.'
"it's so pretty, hm? you should pick some," will muttered into nico's neck. nico shuffled a little, his head turning to will, his gaze softening. he nodded, and pick a few.
will let an eye open, his eyes wandering to the pot of strawberries sitting on the balcony. it was drooping, and wilting, without all the love it usually got. the colours were no longer brilliant red, instead changing to a dull brown, the flowers slumping.
he sat up, straightening his back, his muscles sore and aching. his neck popped, and he set his mug on the table nearby, the drink forgotten and cold.
'oh, i'm cramping up
i'm cramping up.'
he stood up, walking towards the balcony, crossing his arms and leaning against it. the moon was bright, but not bright enough.
"sunshine! look how bright the moon is today. do you think someone on the moon is watching us?" nico questioned, his eyes focusing on the bright, round, silvery moon.
'but you're cracking up,
you're cracking up'
"i don't know, darling, but maybe. it's probably some aliens," will joked. nico rolled his eyes, and nudged will lightly. will's stared at nico, noting the gentle slope of his nose, his pale, yet olive skin, his
shiny hair, his deep brown eyes. nico noticed the quietness and turned, so that he could face will.
"whatcha staring at?" will blinked, then his smile widened. "you."
nico's cheeks warmed.
'i'm mr. loverman,
and i miss my loverman
i'm mr. loverman,
oh, and i miss my lover.'
will felt warm tears slipping down his face, glistening in the dim moonlight. he felt his vision blurring, the tears unstoppable. will quickly wiped it away, seemingly afraid, even though no one was there.
now he felt like it was useless, as the tears kept tracking down his face, undeterred. he swallowed down the lump in his throat, making his way back to the warmth inside his apartment. grabbing the mug, and gripping tightly on the blanket, he made his way inside.
'i've shattered now, i'm spilling out,
upon this linoleum ground
i'm reeling in my brain again,
before it can get back to you
oh what am i supposed to do without you?'
he placed his half empty mug in the sink, shrugging the blanket off, when he trudged to the couch. the song was still floating throughout the apartment. will crashed on the couch, his mind barely registering the miscellaneous things digging into his stomach.
the tears on his face could barely dry before another wave came crashing through, and the waterworks didn't stop. the tears dripped onto the couch, wetting them.
nico slapped will's shoulders teasingly. "you blanket hogger!" he huffed, pulling the blanket closer to him, stripping will of any warmth. will pouted, grabbing onto the blanket again.
"but nico!" he whined, "can't we just share?" he made puppy eyes. nico blinked. "pfft, real rich for you to say mister, you were the one hogging." nico retorted, but still letting will crawl closer, their bodies flush together. will could feel nico's heartbeat, syncing to his own.
'i'm mr. loverman,
and i miss my lover, man
i'm mr. loverman,
oh, and i miss my lover.'
will felt his eyes droop, sleep overtaking his brain. he had cried so much, sometimes so that it felt like his eyes knew something he didn't. the blanket didn't provide him the warmth he needed, craved. it didn't cover up the empty, raving hole in his chest. it didn't hold him like he wished to be held by nico's lean arms.
'i'm mr. loverman,
and i miss my loverman
i'm mr. loverman,
and i miss my lover.'
he felt his mind slipping away, his thoughts drifting mindlessly. the space next to him empty, as he shut his eyes, wishing to never open them again.
