Chapter 1: Divisions 1, 3, and 4
Chapter Text
After Ann officially joined the crew, the commanders had their own little competition on who will be her favorite.
Of course with Ace as an exemption because no one can compete with the twin.
“So which division are you joining my daughter?” Whitebeard asked when Ann was finally standing in front of him, the said girl gave him a clueless tilt of her head.
“I get to choose? You’re not going to assign me to who knows where?” The other commanders chuckled in amusement at the genuine confusion on her face while Whitebeard laughed heartily at his newfound daughter.
“Of course my dear, you’re free to choose whatever you want” Whitebeard’s voice echoed through Ann’s mind, she gets to have a choice, she can choose whatever she wants to do and wherever she wants to go.
“I’m not that sure yet? Can I have a few days to get to know how every division works?” Ann said carefully, Whitebeard nodded in understanding, of course she would want to choose a division that she can be useful and where she fits best.
Ann was completely unaware that on that very moment the competitive commanders were already scheming on how they could convince her to join their divisions.
Marco
The first division commander has his own ways of winning people’s favor, he is kind and responsible, the type of older brother that everyone wants to have, he was confident that he will be Ann’s favorite amongst the commanders, but of course his competitive side was still there, he didn’t want to lose to the other commanders!
“Are you sure you don’t want to join my division-yoi?” Marco asked while leaning on his desk after he finished giving Ann an overall checkup, it’s been 2 weeks since she joined their crew and she’s getting more comfortable around with them.
“That’s quite an offer!” Ann exclaimed happily while swaying her feet since it doesn’t reach the floor while she’s sitting on the medical bed in the infirmary.
“It’s been a while since we had any newbies here!” A nurse named Sky said fondly as she handed the results of Ann’s tests to Marco so he could get his diagnosis.
“I’m still considering, I’m not a medical expert myself” Ann said shyly while rubbing the back of her nape, Sky chuckled while the rest of the nurses cooed fondly at the sight of her reddened cheeks, she was utterly adorable!
“We’re always welcome to train those who are willing to join us” Sky added while giving Ann a soft pat on her head before she continued to do her work, Ann smiled while she nod in understanding.
A comfortable silence followed as Ann focused her attention to Marco who had furrowed eyebrows while reading through her tests, lips frowning the more he read through the papers.
“Is something wrong?” Ann asked worriedly since Marco hasn’t said a thing after he received her test results.
“A lot of things are wrong-yoi” Marco said under his breath while he gave Ann a worried look.
“History of broken ribs, scars all over your body aside from the fresh wounds from the war, bruised almost everywhere? Every bone in your body has been broken or crushed at least once, lacerations? what kind of medical history is this?!” Marco asked worriedly, voice only loud enough for the two of them to hear but his frustration was evident, this is one of the most fucked up medical history someone could have, his protective instincts towards her skyrocketed this instant.
Ann went silent, looking down and she watched her toes fiddle with one another. She knew this was bound to happen but she didn’t expect Marco’s diagnosis to be this insanely accurate, well this is certainly her first time to get treated by a real doctor anyways so she didn’t have much basis.
Sensing her sudden withdrawal from the conversation, Marco’s gaze softened, connecting the dots, he sighed softly and he placed the results on the nearby desk.
“Ann? You can tell me what happened if it’s comfortable with you-yoi” Marco said, making the girl look at him with a terrified expression, she wasn’t scared of Marco, she was scared of the terrors the memories could bring, the memories she tried to desperately bury at the back of her mind so she wouldn’t ruin her chances of a better life with them.
“It’s not important, I can handle it” Her voice trembled as she bit her lower lip, trying her best to act brave but Marco can see an emotional trauma patient when he sees one.
“Ann, if you’re scared that we will think of you differently if we find out about the shits you’ve been through then you’re wrong” Marco said, his hand giving her a reassuring pat on the shoulder, she seemed to calm down a bit with Marco’s touch as she looked at him, a warm smile etched on his face.
“Is this how you offer therapy sessions?” Ann asked curiously, Marco blinked at her words, Ann was still nervously fidgeting with her fingers but she had that expectant look that made Marco smile a bit.
“You can say that” Marco grinned as he ruffled her hair, Ann seemed to think for a moment, her eyes mirroring the conflict in her mind, she talked to Ace about it, but she never got into the details because she knows her brother will blame himself again.
It's no secret how protective Ace is of those that he cares about, Ann knows Ace might lose his shit every time he sees a celestial dragon if he knows what they did to her. With his temper, she didn’t want to risk it.
Ann contemplated for a while but she eventually agreed to tell him all her pent up emotions, the nurses excused themselves so Ann could feel more comfortable talking to Marco, which she was very much thankful for their consideration.
“I got sold as a slave when I was 8” Ann started and Marco hummed to show her that he was listening.
“To my luck, it was a celestial dragon!” Ann said sarcastically while trying to mask her anxiousness with grin, though Marco can see right through it, he didn’t say a word and let her continue with her story.
“They were… ruthless… cruel?” Ann paused every time and she bit her lower lip to stop it from trembling but it was no use.
“They would beat us up when we do something wrong, a slap on the face, a punch or a kick was the least of their torment and it occurs daily” Ann looked down and she fidgets with her fingers again, it was a horrible memory to recall.
Meanwhile Marco was stunned, too much abuse and she was only 8 years old back then, a child for fucks sake, how could they do that?
“There was a whip punishment when I broke a plate once, 100 whips at the back, which explains the scars” Ann muttered while she unconsciously reached for her back where she could feel her scars, Ace saw it once along with the mark of a celestial dragon’s slave.
100 whips just because of a fucking plate?!
Marco thought and he could feel his blood boil, they were really awful.
“They would buy weird creatures and make them run after us, it’s either we get mauled to death or we get punished for killing their new pet” Ann felt her body tremble with that memory, she was scared, there was a time they bought a lion with a human face and it was running after them kids, the other younger slaves with her died getting torn about limb by limb and that memory still haunts her. She almost got killed herself, how the said lion bit her arm, she was bleeding and she swore she knew she will get her arm torn off but her survival instincts managed to help her kill the said beast after she landed a deep blow at the lion’s head, killing it that instant.
She escaped death but she didn’t escape the punishment the celestial dragons gave her.
“One meal a week is the most we could get” She added and Marco’s jaw dropped, how could someone get through a week with only one meal? Not to mention the trauma and tormenting they have to endure?! This explains why Thatch was so insistent on letting him personally cater to her meals.
“They have guards who weren’t that nice either, I’ve seen things an 8 years old shouldn’t have” Ann bit her lower lip tightly, Marco was afraid it will start to bleed.
“I’ve seen slaves get killed right in front of my eyes” Ann reached for the pillow and she hugged it tightly, trying her best to find comfort, reliving these memories was hard.
“That place is hell, I don’t know how I survived that for 12 years” Ann muttered while shaking her head, a faint smile on her face while she mustered the courage to look at Marco.
The Phoenix gave her a reassuring smile and a pat on the shoulder.
“You’re a brave one, Ann” Marco’s words made her smile, realization dawned on her before she frowned, making Marco worry again.
“I don’t think I will fit your division” Ann said and she pouted, Marco just gave her a confused look, so she still remembered what they were talking about earlier?
“I don’t think I can stay sane if I ever hear these kind of stories from other people” Ann said and her breath hitched, just the thoughts of treating severe wounds and hearing their traumatic stories makes her feel sick.
Marco paused, he should have thought of that, he does know that being a doctor or a nurse isn’t for everyone, and he wouldn’t force Ann just because of his whims or competitiveness, that’s so damn petty!
Marco nodded in understanding, but an idea popped into his mind as he faced her again.
“Then how about considering being a patient? Emotional traumas take much longer time to heal, but we can help you” Marco said which made Ann froze, regular therapy sessions to help her cope with all the trauma she has been? That idea didn’t even cross her mind.
“Step by step, at your pace” Marco added, the comforting reassuring smile still etched on his face which made Ann think of his offer, can she really let go of years worth of suffering?
She trusts Marco, she believes in his capabilities so there’s nothing wrong with accepting his therapy sessions?
“Okay?”
Her response made Marco chuckle and he ruffled her hair again, they were about to talk about their schedule when Ace barged into the infirmary and he scanned the room until his gaze fell to his sister that was at the patient’s bed.
“Can I steal my sis??! We happened to come across a pod of whales! You need to see it!” Ace’s voice was full of excitement and he rushed to his sister’s side, Ann’s face also brightened and she was about to jump off the bed but she remembered she was talking to Marco, and it would be rude to just suddenly leave him there.
Marco seemed to notice her so he gave her a nod, dismissing her so she could spend time with her brother, she smiled and Ace getting the message, he instantly dragged her with him to the deck.
Meanwhile Marco just shake his head, Ace was happier with Ann now in the crew, meanwhile Ann seemed to be warming up to them.
He stood up and went to his office, a pen and paper in hand he wrote down the records of their new patient.
Patient name: Portgas D. Ann
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Division: To be decided
Jozu
“Aceeee!! Aceee!! Look there’s a baby whale!! It’s so cute!” Ann exclaimed excitedly while leaning over the railings of the deck, the other pirates were getting anxious if she ever fell overboard, Ace was holding onto the hem of her shirt to keep her from falling though.
Ace just smiled at his sister’s antics and with his free hand he pulled out a small visual den den mushi from his pocket and he handed it to Ann who already has half of her body over the railings.
“Get back on the deck you idiot and use this instead” Ace grumbled while pulling Ann back to the deck with a little more force this time, making the girl stumble back and glare at her brother, though her gaze went to the little snail that he was holding.
“It’s funny how Ace knows that’s stupid but he doesn’t realize that he also acts like that” Izou comments while watching the twins from the higher portion of the deck while Thatch laughed at his comment because it is true.
“Guess having a younger sibling to look out for does wonders to someone’s idiotic tendencies” Vista grinned as the others on the deck laughed heartily, happy as they watched the twins where Ace was now teaching her how to use the little snail.
She was quick to get a hang of it and she suddenly jumped by the railings making the commanders gasp but she sat perfectly by the edge and she started to take pictures.
“One day, I might die because of a heart attack” Ace said while glaring at Ann who was blatantly ignoring him, he scoffed as he reached for the hem of her shirt again, making sure that she won’t fall.
After the pod of whales vanished from their sight, Ann pouted and she jumped back to the deck, much to everyone’s relief, she might be a water logia but she’s still a devil fruit user, she will drown if she falls into the sea.
Ann showed Ace some of the snaps she got and she would coo when she sees something cute and Ace did say something about letting Haruta print those pictures for her.
With the entertainment from the twins came to an end, the pirates were now back to doing their chores, Ann was getting bored, she doesn’t have a division yet which means she also doesn’t have anyone to give her any work to do yet.
Jozu noticed Ann sulking like a kid from the sides, the huge commander approached the young girl, he knew that she wasn’t afraid of him and his tall stature but he wanted to make sure that he won’t frighten her.
“Ey newbie, what’s bothering you?” The 3rd division commander asked casually as he blocked the rays of the sun from bothering Ann, the girl looked at up and she still had that childish pout.
“I’m bored, Ace has duties, I’m basically jobless as of the moment” She said with a whine making Jozu chuckle at her words, while she wasn’t use to having this much free time, where she wasn’t working her ass off just so she couldn’t get hurt or killed.
“How about you watch the training from our division? Who knows you might want to join us afterwards?” Jozu said half jokingly and it made Ann’s eyes twinkle in delight as she nodded enthusiastically, anything to get the boredom out of her system.
“Those who specializes in hand to hand combat? Yes I want to see it!” and with that being said, she followed the commander to one of the training rooms, the moment Jozu opened the door, cheers and jeers echoed through Ann’s ears as there were some members of the crew tackling each other to the ground.
“Hey commander! Ohh you got us a new member?” One of the members from the 3rd division asked while eyeing Ann who smiled shyly.
“Only if she agrees!” Jozu said while waving off his curious subordinates, they need to make a good impression if they want her to join their division.
Jozu made his way throughout the bustling crowd, and due to his tall frame he managed to make it through, Ann just followed him, Jozu stood at the back since he can still have a clear view of those who are sparring, Ann huffed and she pouted while trying to jump to get a look at the ones fighting.
Ann gasped when she was suddenly lifted off the ground and the next thing she knew she was already sitting on top of Jozu’s shoulder where she can have a clear view of the ongoing match up.
“Oh thank you!” She smiled while Jozu chuckled and they continued to watch the other pirates fight, the loud cheers and snickers echoed through the room, money was getting passed from hand to hand, it was chaotic in a fun way, everyone’s having fun and Ann likes it.
“Commander! Let the newbie fight! Show us her fighting skills!” One of their crewmates said and it was followed by the cheers of the others, Ann was quite flustered with the attention.
“Are you sure you want to pick a fight with her?” Jozu said, more likely taunting his own members making the others chuckle, they’re thinking she’s that strong, after the shit she pulled off at Marineford, only the commanders and Pops knows about her real stats.
“You guys will surely win though?” Ann said while blinking her eyes in confusion, she’s a devil fruit user but she can’t control it yet, and she also has 0 combat skills, and we’re just stating facts here.
“A humble young lad I see!” Another guy shouted making the rest laugh, Jozu was amused while Ann was flustered.
“If anyone wants to get burned by an overprotective brother from the 2nd division then feel free to spar with her” Jozu joked making the other members look at them in horror, realizing why she looked familiar, the rumored sister of Portgas D. Ace was now right in front of them, they thought it was just a joke!
“Fire fist really has a sister?!”
“That explains the resemblance!”
“Okay she’s off limits, we can’t make a move!”
The reactions made Ann blush and a shy smile crept on her lips, her brother really lives on his image huh?
“But how can I join this division if you don’t want me to spar with them?” Ann asked curiously as she glanced at Jozu who shrugged, but not too much to make sure that she won’t fall from his shoulder.
“Based from what I saw at the field, you have no combat training at all” Jozu explained and Ann nodded in embarrassment, that she won’t deny.
“But that’s okay! Because we can start with the basics” Jozu assured her, and her eyes sparkled and she nodded enthusiastically.
The other members of the 3rd division cheered, but Ann frowned after realizing something.
“I can only train if I join this division?” Her question and the childish pout on her face made Jozu chuckle along with the rest of those near them.
“Even if you don’t join this division, I can still train your combat skills if you like” Jozu assured her and she smiled happily.
Ann spent the rest of the day watching the fights and Jozu patiently answered all her questions.
When the day ended Ann was back on deck and she grinned at Jozu who raised a brow at her sudden change of expression.
“You’re quite a softie, aren’t you?” Ann teased catching Jozu off guard and Ann cackled, she sounded like Ace for a second.
“Not for everyone though, you’re just lucky” Jozu snorts and Ann laughed, happy to get along with the other commanders.
“Just tell me if you think you fit our division” Jozu waved her off and now he went on the do his own duties, Ann nodded and she also bid the diamond commander goodbye.
Thatch
“We’re about to cross the red line and go to the New world” Ace said making Ann look at him in confusion, they were in the mess hall while waiting for the rest of the commanders to arrive.
“The other half of the grand line is called the New world, we’re heading there” Ace explained, Ann nodded in understanding, she was about to ask something when she was startled when she felt someone’s presence by her side, Haruta cackled when he saw her face.
“You gremlin!” Ann pulled Haruta into a headlock and the later was still laughing like crazy, loving her annoyed expression.
Ace was just laughing along with their antics, he won’t deny that she and Haruta gets along too well, she would fit their little circle of gremlins once she gets used to it, Ace can already imagine Marco getting stressed.
“What’s happening here?” Marco suddenly blurted when he reached the commander’s table just to be welcomed with a laughing Haruta getting tackled to the ground, Ann getting annoyed and Ace just cheering her on while also laughing crazily.
“Just let the kids enjoy! Go Ann! Beat him up and join my division!” Jozu cheered as well making the already present commanders glare at him as well.
“She’s joining my division, excuse me?” Thatch intervened, eyebrows raised as he took a seat besides Marco and Vista.
Ann stopped her murder attempt on Haruta and she glanced at Thatch.
“Huh?” Was her only response as she tilted her head to the side, confusion evident on her face.
“You think I can join the 4th division?” Ann asked clearly baffled, for the few days that she was at the ship, she knows that Thatch loves his kitchen, that the kitchen is sacred and off limits.
“As long as you don’t raid the fridge, like a certain someone…” Thatch paused to spare Ace a glare, the later grinned and he gave the chef a peace sign, guilty as charged.
“You’re very much welcomed to join my division” Thatch finished and Ann seemed to forgot that she was still sitting on the floor until Izou arrived and he dragged the said girl like a cat, back to her chair, Ann pouts with how Izou treated her like she weighed nothing.
“At least let the girl eat first” Izou scolds making the commanders laugh, after a few moments, the food was finally served and the hungry pirates rushed to get in line with Ace being the one in front.
Ann just sat by her place, she was not really hungry, or more likely she wasn’t used to getting a full meal everyday so she’s still adapting to it.
“And for our special girl, here’s your food” Thatch snapped her out of her thoughts as the chef placed her food in front of her that the chef fetched from the kitchen.
Thatch was true to his words when he said that he will personally prepare her meals, he along with Marco prioritizes her health the most and they would make sure she would heal and get stronger, Ann often jokes and calls the two their parents.
Which Thatch always counters and says that only Marco is the mother hen.
Ace was the first to comeback with a mountain of food on his 3 plates and he sat in front of his sister.
“Did you have the same appetite as Ace when you were kids?” Thatch asked curiously as he dug into his own plate, the other commanders getting back to their places after getting their own rations.
“Nah, even I wonder where does he store all that” Ann answered casually, Ace frowned for a bit but he continued to eat, food’s his main priority, arguing with Ann can wait.
Thatch looked happy that he wouldn’t have to worry if Ann decides to join his division, Ann focused on her food, she liked Thatch’s cooking so much, the best food she’s ever got in her life, seriously she didn’t know that mashed potatoes could taste this good. She paused when there was suddenly a chicken nugget on top of her plate.
“A little won’t hurt” Thatch said and Ann smiled, her stomach was still not used to this, to not feeling hungry, to being starved to death.
“Thank you” She grinned happily and the commanders warmed at the sight, especially Ace.
After they finished dinner, the commanders left but Ann chose to stay in the kitchen, to accompany Thatch that was planning their meals for the next day.
“Any kind of dishes you would like?” Thatch asked the girl that was sitting by the stool near the kitchen counter, Ann crossed her arms over the counter and she rested her chin on top of it as she started to think.
“Never had a variety of food to eat so I don’t know?” Ann said honestly and she bit her lower lip, back with the bandits it was always roasted meat or crops, in Marie jois she gets leftover food that wasn’t even supposed to be considered as edible.
“Whatever you serve is wonderful so don’t worry about me!” Ann chimed and Thatch chuckled, happy with the praise but he still thought about it.
“I am flattered, really. But are you sure? You don’t have any dishes that brings back fond memories?” Thatch asked, the girl looked at him curiously but it was obvious that she was thinking. She stayed like that for a while until her eyes brightened and she sat straight making Thatch flinch, surprised by her sudden action.
“Was it called ramen?” Ann asked, quite unsure if she remembers it right but Thatch was more than delighted to finally find out a dish that she would like.
“The owner of that restaurant said that it was made of pork bone? Based on what Ace said” Ann was still deep in her thoughts, unaware that Thatch was watching her fondly with a small smile crept on his face.
“Pork bone broth ramen?” Thatch said after piecing together what she recalls and just like earlier, her eyes now sparkled and she nodded.
“Yes! That’s exactly what it was called!” She exclaimed and this is probably the first time she got this excited over food and it warms his heart.
“I think it was when we were 6? Ace came back to the bandits and he was carrying a huge crocodile for dinner, but when Dadan and the others were busy preparing the food, Ace dragged me out of the house and he gave me a bowl of ramen” Ann recalled that memory fondly, a contented smile on her face as she remembered how Ace was also excited to see her reaction to the food he brought just for her.
“It was already cold but it was the best I’ve ever had!” Ann chuckled, Ace was so happy that she liked his treat, she also remembered how Ace was so proud of his dine and dash and he even managed to get some take out for her without getting caught.
“Seems like you two had always been a tight knit since you were kids” Thatch comments and Ann grinned, like he just said the most obvious thing in the world.
“Oh yes we are! Ace is the best!” Ann’s smile brightened the whole place, Thatch admires how Ann and Ace adores each other, it makes him want to protect their two youngests at all cost.
“Oh hell of course I am!” Ann and Thatch glanced towards the voice and they saw Ace standing by the kitchen door, a smug grin plastered on his face, he walked towards the two, Thatch giving him a questioning look while Ann chuckled at his retorts.
“Came to check if your sister is still good?” Thatch joked and Ace chuckled, he ruffled Ann’s hair before he sat beside her.
“Partly yes, while the other part was me planning to raid the fridge but unlucky me, you’re still awake” Ace said with a snort and Thatch glared, Ann laughed as she hit Ace’s arm.
“Stop giving Thatchie a hard time you idiot” Ann said along with a playful glare towards Ace who gave her a weird look, even Thatch seemed to process her words.
“Thatchie?” Ace asked with a questioning look, while Ann looked bored with Ace’s reaction.
Meanwhile Thatch grinned like he just won the lottery or some sort.
“I got a nickname! She’s joining my division!”

Vista
They were already on their way to Fishman island, after leaving Sabaody, Ann felt assured that she didn’t need to worry nor be afraid of what lies ahead of them, now being in the depths of the sea and seeing creatures that she didn’t think of existing made her realize how caged she was her whole life.
“Did you see the kraken?” Ann snapped out of his thoughts when Vista, the 5th division commander suddenly asked, she didn’t realize how the other pirates around them were frantic while preparing for a fight?
“What’s that?” Ann asked curiously while eyeing the pirates, they seem to be preparing for an attack? The commander chuckled as he followed her gaze towards their crew.
“A huge sea creature that hides at the depths of the sea” Vista grinned while playing with his mustache, also eyeing his division that was sparring by the deck.
“Should I be scared?” Ann asked while tilting her head to the side, the commander laughed while shaking his head in glee.
“The crew tends to annoy the Kraken most of the time we went here due to their boredom” Vista answered with a shrug, the girl just looked around, she managed to snatch her brother and use him as a torch since they were already at the sea level where light couldn’t reach.
“I don’t remember you being scared of the dark?” Ace muttered while holding a finger up that was lit with fire, Ann snorts while keeping her hold on her brother’s wrist to get a better look at the view in front of them.
“Vista talked about a Kraken, I want to see it!” Ann said while squinting her eyes, aside from their surrounding that was lit with Ace’s fire and the deck with a few torches around, everything else was pitch dark.
“The Kraken’s huge, you can instantly see it once we crossed pa—” Before Ace could even finish his words, the Moby rocked beneath their feet as they saw the giant tentacles heading towards the direction of their ship, the other members rushed to their posts but Ann was firm on her place, telling Ace to make his flames brighter so she could see, the said commander ended up using his entire hand as a torch while his sister watched their crew handle the giant creature.
When they almost got hit by the Kraken’s tentacle, Ann stood firmly on her spot, eyes turning into stars in awe, Ace was about to hurl a fireball when Vista’s sword stopped the tentacle from hitting the twins.
“Don’t overdo it and you might pop the coating-yoi” Marco reminded their crew that seems to be enjoying the fight against the sea beast.
Ann watched in amusement, keeping Ace close because his flame is the only source of light she managed to snatch, despite wanting to fight and get a warm up as well, Ace had no choice but to stand by his twin, his own amusement evident as he also laughed when one of their brothers would do something stupid.
“Yikes! The bubble is stretching too much!” Haruta states with widened eyes, they got a little carried away with pissing off the Kraken that its tentacles were all over the place, any more of them could pop their coating and they would die at the bottom of the sea, not a good ending for a yonko crew.
“DAMN! THAT WAS SO COOL!!” Ann was too busy admiring Vista and his division as the swordsmen were busy throwing out the tentacles.
“Okay can someone get that away? We might actually die soon” Thatch muttered, as much as he wants to make some takoyaki with the Kraken but they might not make it out alive if the Kraken does pop their ship coating.
Ann watched as their crew tried to keep the Kraken away, doing their best to get the tentacles away from the Moby.
Ann focused her attention to the sea, where the Kraken was located, and suddenly a strong current was pulling the Kraken away from them, its tentacles getting moved away from their ship as the sea monster was getting further away from their sight, the commanders and the rest of the crew were dumbfounded, still processing what just happened, luckily Ace was quick to catch his sister that was barely conscious after that event.
“What happened-yoi?” Marco asked worriedly as he watched Ann that was standing limply in Ace’s arms, Ace also looked worried while he tried to keep her conscious.
“I kind of overdid myself hehe” Ann waved their worries away as she tried to stand up properly but her knees seems to be too weak to hold her weight, Izou snatched one of the fallen chairs and he hurriedly ran towards the twins, letting Ann settle on the chair while Marco made sure that she wasn’t injured.
“You have a stamina of a fly” Ace joked earning him a much deserved glare from Ann, when Marco was certain that she just overused her devil fruit ability, only then he stopped being such a mother hen.
“Your abilities does come in handy” Blamenco chuckled and he gave Ann a thumbs up, the girl could only smile, she does have to practice and gain control over her powers.
“Is she alright?” Vista asked when he finally got to where the commotion was happening, Ann immediately perked up and she looked at him with stars in her eyes.
“Teach me how to use a sword!” Ann said enthusiastically making Vista halt his tracks and he took few seconds to process her words, and when he did, he laughed while he ruffled her hair.
“Want to join the 5th division?” Vista said with a grin, the other commanders that heard him gave him a glare while he seemed unbothered, delighted even with the fact that he managed to show off.
Ann nodded, enthusiasm evident within her every fiber, much to the other commanders terror, for the first time that someone offered her a place within their division, this is the only time that she seemed to be way more enthusiastic in joining, Thatch looked betrayed.
“How much you’ll bet that she can’t wield a sword?” Haruta whispered to Ace, meanwhile Ace reached for some berries in his pocket and he handed it to Haruta.
“All the cash I have and 2 weeks of toilet duties” Ace said confidently, while Haruta grinned and he went around collecting the bets of their brothers, meanwhile Vista and Ann were already planning on when their sparring sessions would start, the said duo are completely unaware of the ongoing bets that’s going around.
---
They still have a few hours left before they arrived at Fishman island, and since their encounter with the Kraken, everything seems to be fine so Ann was now like a duck while tailing the 5th division commander.
“Commander! Oh hi Ann!” One of the division members immediately greeted Ann while the said girl waved back and she continued to follow Vista, the rest of his division was fighting to get a glance of their newest sister.
“Give the girl a break, the 3rd division was fawning over her a few days ago!” Vista and Ann laughed when one of the division members scolded their own, it was such a funny sight with how they instantly behaved, it’s not everyday that they get a new member in their division.
“She’s joining our division? Commander?” One of Vista’s closest division members asked while the commander shrugged.
“Depends on how well she performs” Vista answered with a shrug as he led her to where the weapons were being stored. The 5th division has a room where the swords and sticks used for practicing are being kept.
Ann was excited and she was about to reach for a sword that caught her attention when she got bumped on the head with the hilt of Vista’s sword, she had a small bump but the look of childish betrayal on her face made the commander chuckle and he threw her a bamboo stick instead.
“Practice with that first” Vista muttered while Ann hopped on her feet and she examined the bamboo stick on her hand, not satisfied since she wanted to use the real blades but she has no choice.
“If I beat you I get to use the real swords?” Ann grinned as she challenged the commander, Vista took her challenge lightheartedly and the young girl was already feeling excited, the other members went to the sides as they let their commander and the newbie have the entire room as their sparring area.
“We’ll see kid” Vista grinned and he grabbed himself a pair of bamboo sticks as well, he did swore to go easy on her, strong as he is but he didn’t want to hurt her nor have her brother storming into their division room to pick a fight with them, Ace is overly protective and he proves that everyday.
A few hours later Ann was panting while laying like a starfish down the floor, aside from the minor cuts and little bruises every time she falls flat on her butt, there wasn’t much any damage done, not to mention that Vista wasn’t even sweating one bit, and Ann took that personally.
“NO FAIR! YOU’RE NOT EVEN SWEATING!” She whined while throwing a fit, she was sitting on the floor after her 28th attempt to land a hit on Vista which she failed miserably again, the rest of the division members couldn’t hold their laughter with the sight.
“You still have a long way to go” Ann could only huff in annoyance, puffing her cheeks and she childishly stuck her tongue out, Vista smiled as he sheathed his sword and he held his hand out to help her stand up.
“You’re such a child!” Vista couldn’t help but coo at how tiny and childish Ann could be, she’s like Ace and at the same time she doesn’t, he knows it doesn’t make any sense but that’s exactly how they could describe the twins.
“You’re not really letting me use a real sword?” Ann asked with a whine in her voice, using those puppy eyes and childish pout as a last resort in convincing them in letting her at least use a real sword.
“I know it’s cool kid, but we can’t risk you slicing up everyone” Vista said firmly but the glint of amusement never left his face. Now Ann huffed even more, she admits that she finds them and their specialty cool, but Vista was surely not letting her touch any blade especially with how she ends up hitting people even if they’re far away, seriously how could she hit some of their division members that’s even outside of the training area?
“I am not joining this division!” Ann muttered and she stomped her feet on her way out of their division room, the rest of the 5th division laughing at her annoyed state, Vista was also laughing with how he managed to tease their newest sister.
Unbeknownst them, inside the meeting room where the other commanders were gathered along with Whitebeard, berries were being passed as groans of annoyance could be heard, in the middle of the commotion was Ace who was at the receiving end of the bet money.
“You guys put way too much faith in my sis HAHAHAHAHA” Ace laughed as he counted the money that he won, the other commanders frowning more evidently.
“We thought she could pull it off! It was the first time she seemed so eager of learning something” Rakuyo reasoned followed by a snort as he remembered how much money he just lost.
“And I know my sister like the back of my hand!” Ace said proudly followed by a smug grin, as he spared each commander a glance to see how annoyed they look.
“So thanks for the money and enjoy your 2 weeks each of toilet duties!” Ace grinned menacingly while blowing kisses using the berries he earned and he ran off before the pens and papers that the annoyed commanders threw could hit him.
Blamenco
Reaching Fishman island was a whole new level of wonder and amazement for Ann as she finally got to see the underwater kingdom that she heard of.
“Welcome to Ryugu kingdom!” The guards welcomed the moment the Moby passed by the huge bubble, fishmen are known to he distant and not welcoming to humans but the Whitebeards managed to earn their respect throughout the years.
King Neptune was now waiting for their arrival, contented to see that the yonko crew seems to be lively and doing well.
“Good to see that you guys are alive!” Prince Fukaboshi along with his two other brothers by his side cheered as the Moby docked on the shore.
“The marines got what they deserve” Haruta said smugly as he jumped off the ship and onto the shore, the reefs and corals welcoming him as the other commanders followed him.
“Whoaa he’s huge like Pops!” Ann said in astonishment when she finally landed her eyes on king Neptune, Whitebeard laughed heartily that caused the waters to shake, king Neptune along with his sons blinked in confusion as they watched the girl looked at them in pure awe.
“Meet my newest daughter! Portgas D. Ann, Ace’s twin and a menace in the making!” Whitebeard said proudly and with his huge hand he gently pushed Ann forward so they could have a clearer look of the daughter that old man Newgate is so proud of.
“EHHHHHH?!! ACE HAS A TWIN?!!” The 3 princes along with their father’s comical reaction managed to make Ann grin and the other pirates laughed along with their proud look.
“A handful of a twin I have” Ace said proudly and he jumped right off the Moby and landing perfectly by Ann’s side, the royal family of the Ryugu kingdom along with the other nearby fishmen all seemed to be in such awe as they stared at the twins.
“What a pleasant surprise my dear” King Neptune said and they led their guests to where the castle is, well except for the twins that slipped out of the rest of the crew and headed to somewhere else.
---
The twins were laughing as they strode across the streets of Fishman island, getting away from the crew wasn’t that hard with how sneaky Ace was.
They were getting side eyed by some of the fishmen but seeing the mark on their backs, they would look relieved and just let them do whatever they were doing.
“We should go to the mermaid cove!” Ace suggested while leaning down a bit to match Ann’s height, Ann perked and she nodded.
When they reached the cove they were greeted by the mermaids, relief evident in their faces when they saw that Ace is alive and well, some also eyed Ann since she was an unfamiliar face.
“Hey everyone!” Ace greeted and he sat by the edge near the water as the mermaids flocked over him, Ann chuckled as she crossed her arms and she watched her twin interact with them.
“Ace!! Thank God you’re alive!” The mermaid named Sora said and the other mermaids nodded, their curious gaze still there as they would glance at Ann.
“Meet my sister! Ann!” Ace said and he gestured Ann to come closer, which the later complied and she crouched down to get a closer look at the mermaids.
“They’re so pretty” Ann whispered, pure awe and adoration in her voice as she exchanged glances between the mermaids who gave her a fond smile.
“You’re pretty too!” Ishilly said fondly and she gently bop her nose making Ann grin, they were getting along, seems like Ann also has a knack when it comes to making friends.
Hours passed and Ann was just watching them from a distance, she regrets not bringing a den den that she could use to capture how the mermaids try to flirt with her brother and the said brother being such an oblivious idiot to it all.
“Now there you are” Ann snapped out of her thoughts and almost jumped when she heard a familiar voice.
“Blamenco!” Ann said happily while Blamenco raised a brow, his attempt to intimidate them went down the drain.
“The commanders and Pops are looking all over the place for you two” Blamenco scolds while Ann only gave him a sheepish grin. The 6th division commander sighed as he reached for his mini den den and he called the other commanders.
“The twins are at the cove, no danger or things alike” Blamenco said and Ann could hear Izou’s sigh of relief, Haruta’s gasp of betrayal and Marco going on with a lecture, but all the ramblings from the other commanders stopped when they heard Ann chuckle, already imagining how she waved their concerns.
“Don’t worry about me! Let me borrow Blamenco for the meantime!” Ann muttered and before they could protest, she jumped and snatched the den den away from Blamenco and putting it in the safety of her pocket, she grinned victoriously when the taller man just gave her a confused look.
“Now I saw some pretty shells and corals, help me collect them!” Ann beamed, grin so wide that Blamenco got blinded for a bit.
In the end the commander had no choice but to abide to the younger’s whines, so they were walking around the cove, Ann picking up the colorful shells by the shore and handing them to Blamenco who would keep them inside his pockets, Blamenco did notice that she seems to be getting a huge haul but he didn’t comment and he just continued to store whatever she hands him inside his pockets.
“What does your division do?” Ann asked out of the blue while reaching for one of the shells by the shore, a frown on her face when it was moving further away from her due to the waves.
“We help with fixing the ship, there are subdivisions of that since the Moby is huge but we’re all shipwrights nonetheless” Blamenco answered with a nod, as if to emphasize his point, Ann nodded and she let out a screech when she almost fell to the waters, good thing Blamenco caught her by the collar and he lifted her up like a cat.
Grinning sheepishly as she gave him a peace sign, the older could only sigh as he placed her down on her feet and he reached for the shell that she was reaching for and he put it inside the pocket where her other shells were being stored.
“Why? Want to join my division?” Blamenco said jokingly, making Ann laugh along with him, she thought for a while before she shrugged.
“You think I can use a hammer? Or at least fix the planks??”
“Honestly? Not one bit” Blamenco said bluntly and Ann frowned in an instant, Blamenco mentioned how they saw her try to use a sword and all of the commanders unanimously concluded to never let her use a weapon.
Ann felt utterly betrayed especially finding out that her brother escaped toilet duties after using her in a bet. She’s definitely going to argue with them that she deserves an exemption too!
“Is this your way of telling me to stay away from your division?” Ann said while looking at him with those puppy eyes, Blamenco paused for a bit, not wanting to offend the younger.
“I-uh I uhm, I don’t mean it that way!” He was flustered, and it was funny in Ann’s eyes, seeing how the scary and intimidating commander was trying not to make her cry (or sort of something like that).
How do I tell her that you should know how to actually fix a ship before you get to join my division?
Those are the very words that now occupied Blamenco’s mind, he knew about the ongoing competition between the commanders on who would convince Ann to join their division, along with the other members of the crew betting on which commander they chose to bet on. Blamenco did want to be competitive, but if he's being honest… she’s the type to actually break the ship instead of fixing it.
The mirth and mischief in her eyes? That’s all he needs to know that she’s another one of those who are chaos personified.
His trail of thoughts was interrupted when Ann was suddenly laughing as she gave him a teasing grin.
“No worries, I’m much capable of breaking things rather than fixing them” Ann said as she shrugged, Blamenco gave her a weird look, why the hell is she so proud of being such a disaster?
“But then having a commander that’s like a walking stockroom, I bet your division doesn’t need to carry stuffs!” Ann whined while crossing her arms and she looked so annoyed, it was actually childish but it made Blamenco chuckle, it wasn’t every day that youngsters don’t run away from him.
“For a pack rat like you, being under my division does sound convenient” Blamenco muttered and Ann gave an indignant squawk, and she was about to argue that she isn’t, when Blamenco showed her a handful of shells he happened to be holding all due to her whims.
“Okay? I guess I am a little bit of a pack rat” Ann muttered, smiling sheepishly while scratching the back of her nape.
Rakuyo
When Blamenco and the twins reached the shore where the Moby was docked, Blamenco took out from his pocket all of Ann’s haul and placing them neatly inside one of the empty boxes, Ace’s jaw dropped as he stared at his sister in disbelief, gaze darting in between the shells, corals and Ann that was busy assorting everything that she got.
“WHAT IS THIS FOR?!!” Ace asked while looking completely baffled, Ann just gave her brother a quick glance then proceeds to doing her thing.
“They’re pretty” Ann answered casually, ignoring the comical gaze that Ace was giving towards her mountainous pile of shells and corals.
“And you just let her?!” Ace turned his head towards Blamenco, who shrugs and turned his head away while whistling.
Of course the commanders would do anything for her, what a bunch of enablers!
Ace kept those thoughts to himself, though it doesn’t change anything, he is thankful that they’re doing whatever they could to make her happy, even if some of the commanders were often overdoing it.
“Hey hey Ace! This one is for you!” Ann grinned and Ace’s gaze shifted from his sister’s beaming face, towards the coral in her hands.
The coral has a yellowish orange hue and it was shaped like flames, it reminder her so much of her twin that she immediately took it so she could give it to him.
A soft smile etched on Ace’s face as he held the said coral.
Their little moment was interrupted when Rakuyo suddenly ran towards the deck, his weapon following right behind him, when the said commander’s eyes landed on the twins, he immediately averted his steps and went straight to run towards them.
“We are going to the Ryugu palace!” Rakuyo said sounding more enthusiastic than usual, not even caring even if his weapon was biting one of Ann’s precious shells and now Ann was arguing with the freaking weapon.
“No! I specifically like that blue one!” Ann hissed while pulling the shell towards her but the weapon wasn’t fazed at all.
“Now hey Kali, stop bullying our youngest!” Rakuyo scolded his weapon, Ann paused and with confusion evident in her eyes, she glanced towards Rakuyo, not losing her grip towards the said shell.
“Kali?” Ann recalled, head tilted to the side in a way that she was asking Rakuyo for an explanation.
“Oh? You haven’t met her yet? Kali come here!” Rakuyo muttered and he snatched his weapon, the said weapon was now going wild on the commander’s arms but Rakuyo wasn’t fazed at all.
“Kali meet Ann, our newest sister and Ace’s twin!” Rakuyo said while grinning and he forcefully faced his weapon to Ann, the later was still baffled with the sight in front of her.
Due to her curiosity, Ann leaned forward to have a clearer look which almost got her nose bit off by the said weapon, with a yelp she backed away and if she wasn’t a water logia she would had her legs bitten.
“Damn she’s wild!” Ann muttered the amusement still evident in her gaze, as if Kali wasn’t planning to murder her a moment ago.
“I accidentally squashed a devil fruit with my spiked ball when we were raiding some marine base…” Rakuyo paused while petting Kali like she was such a tamed pet, obviously she’s far from that.
“My weapon ended up eating the devil fruit and surprise! Kali was born!” Rakuyo sounded like a proud parent, which would have been cute if only Kali wasn’t trying to murder Ann.
“Stop trying to kill me!!” Ann groaned in annoyance while scrambling her way towards her brother to hide behind his back. Kali was still wilding and acting like a brat, while the 3 commanders around them were laughing at them.
Blamenco, Ace and Rakuyo proceeds to talk about the plans of the Whitebeards along with how king Neptune was insisting on throwing a banquet for them. They were already immersed in their conversation when Ann’s loud screech echoed through the deck and suddenly she was running for her life with Kali following shortly after.
“Stupid weapon!! I hate you!!” Ann screamed and suddenly the pirates on the deck were all laughing at her misery, some other commanders like Thatch and Haruta were running towards the deck, worry in their faces but they burst into a laughing fit when they saw what the commotion was all about.
“I guess Kali found her new favorite crewmate” Izou said in amusement while he stepped out and leaned towards the railings of the upper side of the deck so he can have a clearer view of the chaos unfolding.
“Kali can actually murder someone-yoi!!” Marco said quite worriedly as his gaze followed the running away young adult, but he didn’t move to help her anyways, much to Ann’s utter betrayal.
“She’s a logia, she’ll be fine” Curiel said casually, since they didn’t teach the weapon how to use haki and it can only be possible if Rakuyo’s using Kali, then Ann would be safe, well they don’t have plans to tell her that yet since it was amusing.
Ann was running all over the deck, and Kali is very persistent in chasing after her, Rakuyo grinned like a proud dad while Ace was busy filming his sister’s misery.
“I should recruit Ann to join my division” Rakuyo muttered and not too much later when a water ball was thrown towards his direction, not bigger enough to actually cause damage but still good enough to drench his clothes, the said commander was stunned as he turned his head towards Ann that was now running by the top portion of the deck.
“I AM NOT JOINING YOUR DIVISION YOU SHIT ASS!!” Ann shouted, earning her a chorus of laughter from everyone else around the deck, meanwhile Rakuyo was completely dumbfounded.
He’s definitely going to give Kali a scolding for scaring away his possible recruit.
Chapter 3: Divisions 8, 9, and 10
Chapter Text
Namur
The trip to Fishman island was a blast, the Whitebeards enjoyed the banquet that king Neptune and the royal family prepared for them. Ann also got to meet the mermaid princess Shirahoshi, she just happened to accidentally stumble on the front door of her room when an axe came flying through, though it just passed her body she got startled and got through the other side of the door using her water form.
The next thing she knew she was already in front of the crying mermaid princess, she tried to calm her down which worked and she ended up sitting on the palm of Shirahoshi and they got along so well. Ann was sad that the princess couldn’t join them in the banquet because there was someone threatening her life, which made Ann’s blood boil, the princess locked up inside of the room because an unhinged guy is out there wanting her dead if the princess didn’t marry him.
She almost stormed out of the room and face that utter idiot herself, though the princess begged her not to, and that’s how she got a quick briefing with the very complicated history of humans and fishmen, though she ended up promising the mermaid princess that if the next time they comeback and that crazy guy was still bothering her, Ann would make sure he will get carried to the deepest pitch of the ocean and he would never find his way back.
And now she’s sailing the seas of the New World, they often warn her that this part of the sea is the most dangerous of them all, but so far all she had seen is the calm weather, so what’s the big deal?
“Really? What’s so dangerous about this place?” Ann asked Thatch since the chef was also on watch duty today, they were on one of the crow’s nest while looking at the vast sea where the moon was shining brightly and its reflection illuminating the waters.
“You’ll see soon” Thatch said while grinning, Ann snorts as she watched the waters.
She was feeling bored, night watch was boring, everyone else was sleeping and even if she and Thatch comes up with pranks, they can’t pull it off until tomorrow anyways. So the said bored girl ended up playing with the waters, forming them like a snake as it rose and approached them, Thatch was startled and he was ready to fight when Ann giggled and the sea water was dancing around them, following the way Ann’s finger moves.
“Whoa? When did you learn that?” Thatch said in awe while following her every move, Ann smiled and she continued to show off.
“When I was with the mermaid princess, kinda messed it up the first try but at least Shirahoshi found it amusing” Ann chuckled as she remembered how Shirahoshi seemed so happy, at least she managed to make the princess smile before they left.
Though the calmness of the night ended when the winds blew harsher, it started to rain heavily and the waves harshly rocked the ship.
“Oh here comes a storm! Time for us to get inside!” Thatch said and Ann took a second or two to process what was happening, Thatch had to drag her down, when they reached the deck, Ann noticed that while some of the crew were taking cover inside the ship, there were also some who were running around, furling the sails while some would tie whatever could be thrown overboard.
“Thatchie! You can go inside first!” Ann said making Thatch halt on his tracks and he stared at Ann.
“It’s a storm Ann, we won’t want you falling overboard at times like this” Thatch’s voice was laced in concern while Ann reasoned that some of the members of the crew were also on the deck.
“They’re from the 8th division! That’s their job and they know what they’re doing” Thatch explained, his hold on Ann’s wrist tightening, he knew Ace would go feral if he finds out that they let Ann stay on deck while they’re in the middle of a storm.
“I’ll tail Namur! Don’t worry about me!” Ann muttered and the said commander that was busy telling orders halted his actions and he stared at Ann like she said the most idiotic thing ever.
“Ann I know you have idiotic tendencies but—”
“Wait! I have an idea! Let her stay on deck!” Namur shouted, making both Thatch and Ann, along with the rest of the members of the 8th division give him a weird look.
“Well if Namur says that it’s okay then go on! Make sure she won’t fall off the ship!” Thatch shouted and only when Namur gave him a thumbs up, he let go of Ann’s wrist and went on his way.
After a few moments, Ann was holding tightly to one of the ropes that was tied to the mast, the members of the 8th division were moving with ease despite how the waves were thrashing the ship, how the rain was strong enough to blur their vision and the wind was strong to blow them off their feet, it seems like they were used to it, and even if they fall of the ship it’s fine because they were mostly fishmen and good swimmers who can swim back to the moby despite the horrible weather.
“Ann! Can you hear me?!” Namur’s voice echoed throughout the storm, but he was lucky because it seems like Ann was alert enough to hear and understand his words.
“I want you to try to use your power to repel the waves!” Namur said, Ann was puzzled but when a giant wave washed away almost half of the things on the deck, that’s where she understood why.
“I’ll try!” Ann shouted back, Namur watched closely, keeping an eye to their sister that was now focusing her full attention towards the huge waves that was heading to their direction.
With all the willpower she managed to find, she did get to repel one of the waves heading to them, though it took all the energy that she has, her grip on the rope loosened and she felt herself getting dizzy, luckily before she could totally lose consciousness, Namur held her arm tightly and he pulled her closely to his side.
“You did great!” Namur said proudly which made Ann smile, the commander picked her up and as he made his way towards the infirmary, the nurses were quick to tend to Ann while the girl was now laying on the medical bed.
“She’s just exhausted for overusing her powers, I’ll be tending my division first! See you later Ann!” Namur said as he gently ruffled Ann’s hair, the girl smiled and she waved him off so he wouldn’t worry about her, the nurses tending to her needs while giggling at their youngest.
---
After the storm passed and it was now another calm day… as calm as the New World could be, the Moby was now back to sailing smoothly while the members if the 8th division were either in the showers or they’re sprawled on the deck, exhausting radiating from their every fiber.
Meanwhile Namur was with Whitebeard and the rest of the commanders, reporting the damages and the overall stats of the ship after that storm.
“Any injured?” Marco asked, not lifting his gaze from the notes in his hand.
“Not really, but Ann is in the infirmary” Namur answered and in an instant all eyes were on him, Namur knew they would freak out so he beats them into it.
“She overused her power” Namur explained and the commanders instantly shut their mouths.
They continued their meeting along with finalizing the needs for repairs and other supplies, when the meeting ended, the commanders rushed outside which made Whitebeard chuckle, the old man knew they would be heading straight to the infirmary to check if their youngest sister was alright.
Ann was certainly unprepared when the commanders barged into the infirmary, them halting on their tracks when they were instantly met with the glares from the nurses, Ann covered her face with a pillow, she still wants to sleep, save their mother hen behavior for later.
She did hear their ramblings which she chose to ignore for the meantime, when the nurses managed to successfully shoo away the commanders and it was peaceful again, she finally could sleep.
---
The next time Ann woke up to her own accord, she was finally feeling well rested as she abruptly sat on the bed, startling a few nurses while their youngest was still processing what was happening around her.
“You’re finally awake!” Namur said followed by a chuckle, Ann turned her head to the direction of the fishman, she instantly gave him a smile.
“How’s everyone?” Ann asked curiously while focusing her attention to the commander, while Namur pulled his chair closer to Ann’s bed.
“Just the usual storm damages, everything will be fine” Namur said with a shrug, Ann nods then she seemed to be contemplating about something, which Namur waited patiently for her to say her thoughts out loud.
“Your division? All of the people on the deck last night was from your division? Right?” Ann asked curiously, Namur nodded and Ann looked at them in awe.
“You guys have such a tough job” Ann said, leaning comfortably by the headrest yet her attention was still on Namur. Meanwhile the commander chuckled as he shake his head.
“That’s why most fishmen in the crew goes to the 8th division, along with those who are good swimmers” Namur explained, the 8th division is in charge of making sure that the Moby won’t sink when they get caught up in a storm, and since the weather is unpredictable in the new world, their division should remain alert at all times, when the storm lasts for days, some other division members are obligated to help but most preparations are done by the 8th division.
“And that’s why we also don’t have any devil fruit users, it’s quite a risk” Namur added as he continues to explain the complexities and other things about his division along with some tales and shenanigans of their members that got Ann cackling at their stories.
“But I think I’ll make an exception if you choose my division” Namur’s words made Ann pause and she gave him a look of disbelief.
“I might end up giving you a problem instead though” Ann said followed by a sheepish smile, she was well aware with her lack of control with her powers, she’s more of a liability while sailing the seas.
“A little more training and you will be good, everyone can see your potential” Namur said fondly and Ann let out a squeak, not used to hearing compliments, well insults has been her love language with her brother all these years anyways so it wasn’t that surprising.
Namur could only laugh as he remembered her first days on the ship, where he had to work overtime in fishing her out, Portgas fishing has become quite a normal occurrence to him now.
Blenheim
Blenheim had no idea, and he certainly didn’t plan on having their little sister strolling around the lower parts of the ship, amusement evident in her eyes while eyeing the people of his division while they were doing their job.
“So this is the other division that Blamenco was talking about!” Ann grinned while talking to one of the pirates that is busy fixing one of their dinghies that was damaged by the storm, the said pirate was now in covered in cold sweat, obviously not used to the attention, especially coming from such a pretty young lady, and her lack of realization made the situation even funnier.
“Huh? Those colors don’t match” Ann muttered innocently while the said member of the 9th division glanced at the dinghy that he was now painting and only then he realized that he dipped his brush in the green paint when it should have been blue.
A series of curses was delivered under his breath, voice just low enough to make sure that she won’t hear it, his cheeks flushed red at the embarrassment and that’s all Blenheim needed to laugh and he approached their little intruder.
“Seems like our little miss here is bothering my men?” Blenheim said while towering over the two, Ann was startled while the said member of the 9th division sighed in relief, and comically lifting the whole dinghy up with one arm, and the paint he was using with the other and he ran off.
Blenheim didn’t miss the way his subordinate looked at him with his eyes saying ‘Thanks for the save commander! She’s your problem now!’.
When he turned his attention back to Ann, she was now pouting while her gaze was fixed to the said pirate that just ran off, she just wanted to ease her boredom, and Blamenco said she should go to the 9th division if she wants to learn about the basics of fixing a ship.
“Don’t mind them, it’s not everyday that we get to have willing visitors, and a pretty lady to be precise” Blenheim explained when he realized that she might take it the wrong way, and just like how they’ve got to know her during the past days, she grinned and she focused her attention to him now.
“Why? Fixing ships looks fun!” Ann chirped and the way the members of the 9th division looked at her like she just said the most ridiculous thing, well for the members who are shipwrights, yes fixing ships is fun without a doubt, but it was rare for someone to appreciate their work without having first hand knowledge about it.
“Blamenco said you have a knack for breaking things, not fixing them” Blenheim said followed by a questioning look as he stared at the girl that was still grinning at them.
“Well that doesn’t mean I won’t try to make it work” Ann said with a cheeky grin and that will do because it made Blenheim chuckle, really this girl shows no fear in front of them despite her small and petite frame.
To show his appreciation, Blenheim gave her a tour around the bottom part of the ship where his division was based, Blamenco’s division focuses on fixing the outer part of the ship while Blenheim’s division focus on the interior, and they also fix the small ships that they take along.
“Can I fix that?” Ann asked curiously while pointing one of the smaller boats that was big enough for one person.
“That’s not broken silly, that belongs to your brother actually” Blenheim chuckled while Ann took a closer look at the said boat, eyebrows furrowed while eyeing it with eyes full of curiosity.
“Ace calls that Striker, powered by his flames so he’s the only one who can use that” Blenheim added and he explained to her the complexities of her brother’s personal boat which led their conversations to the other small ships that was stored at the room.
“I’m going to use that” Ann announced, hands on her hips while eyeing the Striker with a sly grin.
“You weren’t listening, I sort of expected that” Blenheim snorts yet the amused grin on his face tells it that he was far from being annoyed at her antics.
“Well good luck in getting permission from your brother though” And with that being said, Ann smiled sheepishly, her mind already formulating ideas on how she could get Ace to let her use his beloved little boat.
The next thing that happened, Blenheim decided to teach her how to actually fix a boat and check if she could make it work, Blenheim had that victorious grin on his face when Ann said that he wasn’t that stingy compared to Blamenco when it comes to his tools, at least the 9th division commander can brag about that.
“That dinghy is going to sink” Blenheim comments while inspecting Ann’s work, she was still trying to put some wood to where it was damaged, and honestly speaking? She was doing an awful job, but with how focused she was, no one dared to call her out, perks of being young and adorable, Blenheim comments in his mind, even his snarky division members who wants everything to be perfect could only spare her a fond look.
“There I’m done!” Ann said excitedly while completely ignoring Blenheim’s comments, she was happy with her work, and how could they have the heart to ruin her simple happiness?
Though everyone in the room with them was certain that it would sink.
“Time to test it!” Ann said proudly and she eyed Blenheim, the look in her eyes was all he needed to know, she wanted him to help her test her work.
Blenheim was completely aware of how his division members were giving him sly grins, and he was also certain that this girl in front of them managed to wrap them around her fingers. Seriously Ann can order around the commanders and no one would even bat an eye, that’s how much they adore her.
So despite even knowing that it will fail and it would just be another dinghy to sink in the ocean, they just did anything that she pleases, at least to comply to her whims.
“Let’s bring it to the deck!” Ann said with a grin so bright and she was about to make a run to the deck when Blenheim held him by the collar, Ann snorts after realizing how the commanders treat her like a lost kitten sometimes.
“There’s a passage here, no need to go upstairs” Blenheim explained and he placed her on top of his shoulder while he reached for the dinghy that she ‘fixed’.
They made their way to one of the passages while Ann was comfortable at her spot, really she’s starting to like sitting on their shoulders, the view is great and she doesn’t need to walk. Blenheim was patient enough to answer all her questions despite some of them being a bunch of nonsense. She was amusing to say the least, just like a child who’s so curious of everything.
“Eh? There’s no sea here” Ann said while looking around the place that was the end of the passage, it was a dead end and only the torches at the walls were their hope for light, they were just facing the wall and there was nowhere else to go.
“You’ll see” And with that being said, Blenheim pulled one of the levers, and to Ann’s surprise, the wall in front of them opened and she was instantly welcomed by the sea breeze along with the magnificent view of the ocean.
“This is where we get the dinghies and the other small ships inside the Moby” Blenheim explained and he crouched down so Ann could jump off his shoulder, when she was already standing on the floor, a few seconds she was at the edge near where the waters is.
“Don’t get too close, you might drown” Blenheim reminds her though he knew she won’t listen when she’s too immersed in something.
Ironic how she’s a water logia yet she needs to be careful with the seas since she’s no exemption from the mother sea.
“I can walk on the water just fine thank you” Ann said followed by a smile, if it weren’t for the sparkles in her eyes, Blenheim could swear she was actually making fun of him.
After a little bickering and chitchats, Blenheim obliged when she was practically begging him to drop the dinghy, she was already holding a paddle and the excitement was evident within her every fiber. Blenheim mentally noted that if she ends up drowning he should save her, if only he knew he should have ask Namur, he’s sure the fishman commander won’t mind, Ann and her shenanigans has been one of their newest entertainments lately.
With Blenheim still carrying the dinghy but now with Ann sitting inside of it, like a child that was excited, Blenheim couldn’t contain the smile on his face.
Blenheim did put the dinghy on top of the waves and on the spot Ann was using the paddle, but she wasn’t even a meter away from the commander, water started to fill her little boat and Blenheim laughed while she was panicking, Blenheim was expecting at least 3 minutes before her dinghy would be filled with water and she would sink but to the commander’s surprise, Ann used her powers, removing them from the dinghy was an easy job, making sure no more would get in was like a child’s play to her and she grinned when her little boat didn’t sink.
“I told you I can do it” Ann said proudly and Blenheim pretends that he didn’t saw her little trick, maybe she could make it work but for a normal person it was a very big nope.
She was paddling around the ship, the other commanders were around the railings, Marco having a headache as to why she isn’t on the ship, Haruta was close to getting thrown overboard by Thatch just so he could annoy Ann and Izou took the honor of knocking the two idiots down so they wouldn’t cause anymore unnecessary trouble.
“Okay, who’s the enabler this time-yoi?” Marco frowned while eyeing everyone on the deck, Ace was hanging by the ropes by the mast looking proud, seems like the brother was also clueless, the other commanders were ignoring Marco. Only when did he get a decent response was when Blenheim reached the top deck looking proud as hell, that grin on his face basically says he’s the culprit this time.
“I didn’t expect her to actually fix anything” Blamenco chirps while his eyes followed their youngest that was basking in their attention. He didn’t miss how she stuck her tongue out to annoy the 6th division commander.
“She didn’t fix it, she just controls the water so it won’t get inside her boat” Blenheim explained and Blamenco snorts, meanwhile the rest of the commanders chuckled, of course that’s what happened.
“A trickster, I couldn’t be more proud” Thatch said dramatically and they were all cheering for her on the deck.
“But really don’t let her join any of the shipwrights division” Blenheim comments and Blamenco nods in agreement while everyone on deck let out a laugh, Pops even stood up just watch his youngest daughter have fun.
Curiel
After a few days, Ann was now having a sparring match with her brother, her punches were still lacking and sloppy along with how she easily loses her balance when she tries to kick but overall it was a good progress compared to when she first boarded the ship.
“Again you have a stamina of a fly!” Ace taunts while laughing at her misery since Ann was currently sprawled at the deck while panting heavily.
“You lost once!” Ann reasoned in between her breath while Ace gave her a mocking look.
“You drenched me with sea water! That was unfair!” Ace chirped and he crossed his arms, a scowl on his face but the fond smile was slipping through his facade. And since Ann was too tired to come up with a snarky comeback, she just childishly stuck her tongue out which made the commanders chuckle at her.
“Okay that’s enough amusement for today! Everyone get back to work-yoi!” Marco announced, Haruta scowled as he hurried in collecting their bets, while the rest went back to their respective works.
Ann frowned while she stared at the clear sky above when everyone went back to their respective duties, she should really choose a division now because being jobless on the ship is both boring and annoying.
“I’ll be in my division room sis! Call me if you need something!” Ann could only nod as she heard Ace’s sprinting towards where his division was located, now she was at the deck and the rest of the pirates around her were busy doing their jobs.
She’s been working her ass off for all her life and now that she wasn’t doing anything it just feels so wrong, not that the commanders or Pops were forcing her to work or anything, they were even insisting that she should just chill and relax, something she couldn’t do for the past 12 years of her life. But she wants to do something, and luckily she found another commander that she decided to tail for that day.
At first Curiel was heading to where his division members are, which is the arsenal of the ship.
And he was too immersed in his job that he didn’t notice that someone was already following him, the other commanders who saw Ann following Curiel all had that knowing smile on their faces, seems like their little walking disaster is now going to cause a fiasco on the 10th division this time.
The moment Ann jumped in front of Curiel, the said commander halts on his track as he took a step back because he almost stepped on her.
“You don’t have any ounce of self preservation? Don’t you?” Curiel asked with a raised brow, and the only response he got was a sheepish grin.
“I’m safe here” She retorts and she earned herself a fond smile from the said commander, good to know that she feels safe and she could let her guard down when she’s with them, that’s telling enough of how much she trusts them.
“Still being a little careful won’t hurt” Curiel chimed and he continued to go on his way but now with Ann following his steps, he already accepted his fate that today was his schedule for babysitting.
When they reached the weaponry where Curiel’s division was present, Ann’s eyes widened as she looked at the weapons around her, guns, rifles, some swords though not as much compared to Vista’s division, cannons, bombs and many more.
“A Portgas in the arsenal, who would have thought this day would come?” One of the members of the 10th division said followed by a chorus of laughter from everyone who heard him, even Curiel couldn’t stop himself from smiling. Meanwhile Ann could only tilt her head in an obvious confusion.
“Your brother is banned here, well ever since we caught him taking a nap in this very room” Curiel explained, and the way Ann’s eyes held confusion, it took a few seconds before her eyes grew wide and she giggled, amusement after realizing what could have happened.
“Good thing he didn’t catch on fire” Ann said with an amused grin and the other division members nodded, oh the damage if Ace actually caught himself on fire while he was inside the arsenal, it would be enough to sink their entire ship.
That idiot.
Ann was definitely going to annoy Ace with that information, she maybe late but it would be fun nonetheless.
Ann was watching everyone do their thing, she remembered how Vista didn’t allow her to use a sword, just as she was about to reach for one of the swords, Curiel was quick to lift the whole compartment away from her, the girl frowned as she glared at the commander.
“I saw the whole disaster that happened with Vista’s division, no swords for you young miss” Curiel said and Ann’s cheeks visibly reddened when she remembers how she failed miserably with trying to wield a sword.
“How about guns?” Ann asked, puppy eyes that she knows that works well with Izou, it works with him so it could work with others, right? Well the answer’s no, because Curiel just shake head, it almost worked, Curiel just had to say no for the sake of everyone else.
“If you can convince Izou” Curiel answers making Ann grin, maybe she could learn how to use guns instead!
And then she just chose to annoy and pester the members of the 10th division instead, they were much more patient and they certainly did not run away from a pretty girl.
“This cannon can annihilate entire islands!” One of Curiel’s division members said with matching hand gestures and exaggerated facial expressions, their commander could only snort at their stories that was partly true but still exaggerated in some aspects, meanwhile Ann believes in their words, like a gullible child that finds entertainment in the most unusual things.
“YOU HAVE BOWS AND ARROWS?!!” Ann’s voice echoed through the hall which made every 10th division member turn their heads and focus their attention to her, meanwhile Curiel was showing her a box full of bows and arrows.
Causing them to raise a judging brow, there wasn’t much archers on the ship, and those who fully relied on bows and arrows already left the Moby and they started their own crews, so seeing their division commander offering her a weapon that likely no one will be able to teach her how to use is like giving the crew a death sentence.
“I’m just showing them to you, never said they’re yours now” Curiel said in a matter of fact tone which made Ann frown while she hit his arm, which was only a mere brush to the commander’s arm.
Seems like the commanders found a common ground and that is they love to annoy their youngest, she was an easy target to their teasing and her reaction’s priceless.
“No fair! Why am I not allowed to try any weapons?!” She whined and Curiel had to stop his urge to pinch her cheeks, a very adorable being and them being weak to cute things or beings alike is not good for their image, but Ann knowing that would only make things worst.
Jozu and Blenheim already lost their tough image, Ann knows their soft spot and how they can’t say no to whatever she wants, Curiel is in no way going to let that happen to him.
And of course that shit didn’t happen, because now Curiel and Ann were by the deck and the commander was being an enabler and he allowed her to use the bow and arrow. Much to Marco’s terror because Ann wasn’t trying to hit the targets, she was blatantly trying to hit Haruta and the said commander wasn't helping with the way he kept on annoying her whenever she misses.
“THIS IS ATTEMPTED MURDER IN BROAD DAYLIGHT-YOI!” Marco said in a frustrated tone which was immediately drowned by the cheers when Ann did manage to rip Haruta’s sleeve with the arrow, no harm done, nothing that a little sewing won’t fix.
“No lie, I think she can actually learn that” Izou comments as he watched Ann that was having fun, Haruta that little devil really knows how to rile her up the most.
Curiel lets out a proud smile, in contrary to Marco’s frown and eye twitching because no one was taking him seriously.
“Might give that as a gift already” Whitebeard comments and the fond smile on his face while watching his children having fun on the deck, the commanders giggled and Marco could only sigh, if someone gets injured, they would have to deal with it and there’s no way he’s going to use his healing flames on them, no one listens to him on this damn ship anyways!
Chapter Text
Kingdew
Okay this time it was an offer, Kingdew asked her to join her this time, she wasn’t like a duckling who followed the commander against his will, he wholeheartedly asked her if she wanted to tag along with his division, which he didn’t regret, sort of?
The 11th division is in charge of whatever affairs they have when they docked on an island, whether it was for stocking supplies, making sure that everything that they need has been provided or if it was an unfamiliar island they would survey the area and make sure that it was safe for them and now they found an inhabited island which they haven’t explored yet, so here is the 11th division with their commander, getting ready to look at what the island has to offer.
“Are you sure letting that idiot tag along is a good idea?” Haruta asked, half teasing yet concern was evident in his eyes while glancing at Ann that was now even using Ace’s small watermelon colored backpack, and he was at the very back of the line of the 11th division members.
“We can keep her safe, no worries” Kingdew assured the worried commanders, specifically Marco, Izou, Thatch and Haruta, though the 12th division commander won’t admit to that.
“I’m sure you can keep her safe, I just doubt she won’t give you a headache though” Thatch said with a playful snicker, while even the huge and intimidating commanders of the other divisions nodded in approval to his words, Ann is nice, but she’s definitely a menace when she wants to be.
Their gaze followed their youngest that was now in front of Whitebeard, an innocent smile on her face and Thatch was certain that she uses that look when she needs something! And it always works no matter what the situation is!
“Pops! I don’t have pocket money” She said followed by a pout and giggles were heard throughout the deck.
“It’s a deserted island! There’s no need for money!” Haruta screeched from the railing where he was perched, and he was ignored when Whitebeard himself gave money to Ann, gasps was heard throughout the deck! Even Marco took a few seconds to register what just happened.
Because first of all, like Haruta said, it was a deserted island, which means they don’t need money for anything. Second, Ann should have asked for her pocket money from her division commander, which she currently doesn’t have one yet because she needs to choose a division, so they didn’t mind that she tried to ask some from Pops. But lastly and most important of all, POPS ACTUALLY GAVE HER SOME!! Don’t get them wrong but everyone knows on the ship that they could NEVER get Whitebeard to give them money or a piece of his share of treasure, which everyone also doesn’t mind because they know that Pops sends his money to his home island for a good cause.
“I must be dreaming-yoi! Izou sla—”
“What was that for-yoi?!”
“You asked me to slap you, I did you a favor”
Marco and Izou’s sudden bickering were drowned by another series of gasps as they listened to Whitebeard’s next words.
“I slid some extra berries for you my dear” Whitebeard tried to be subtle by whispering which some of those nearby could still hear, Ann’s chuckle was no help in trying to be subtle at all.
The look of utter betrayal, Pops has favorites! Ann smiled as she thanked the old man, and the satisfied smile on her face was enough for Whitebeard to be happy and contented.
When Ann was now back with the 11th division and they were going to the island, the other commanders and those on deck swarmed to Whitebeard’s seat, asking their beloved father if this is the way of him announcing his favorite child, he only answered with a smile and his eyes full of mirth, that’s the only confirmation they needed. And as much as they tried to keep that look of betrayal, it’s hard especially when they feel the same, she’s their favorite sibling!
Now the 11th division was busy doing their job, searching for possible threats or for resources that they might find useful for their travels, some were scanning the plants, the others were busy checking for dangerous animals, some were checking the terrains, they were immersed in their job and Ann can tell they’re knowledgeable in their own fields.
“Atmos is going to love this one!” One of the members of the 11th division said in a cheerful tone while showing his findings to his commander, which Kingdew inspected, the commander later nodded while handing the plant back to his division member.
Ann was also looking around, she barely knows shit but still being in a new environment was a breath of fresh air and she’s not complaining at all. In fact she feels nostalgic, remembering the jungle back at Dawn island where she grew up on.
“There’s a wild tiger!” One of Kingdew’s division member shouted and Ann snapped her head to where the commotion was happening and she did saw a tiger, she froze on her spot as she watched the creature run towards her direction, but before the tiger could attack her, Kingdew was quick to fend the wild beast off and sent it flying down the trees.
“Thanks” Ann said while blinking her eyes, still processing what just happened, they gave her a look of concern, when she finally processed what just happened, she turned to Kingdew and she gave the commander a sharp look.
“You shouldn’t have been to hard on that poor guy, he seems like a baby” Ann said in a slight scolding manner and Kingdew gave her a questioning look.
“The tiger! It was so small! Poor thing” Ann said with a click of her tongue and with those words being said, they looked at her like she just grew another head.
“Ann? That was a full grown tiger, what are you talking about?” Kingdew asked in confusion, his reaction mirroring the rest of the members of his division, now it was Ann’s turn to look at them baffled.
“That was definitely baby size compared to the ones at Mt. Colubo” Ann states and again they were baffled, not really believing her words but why would she lie? Noticing their expressions, Ann went on to explain further while giving bits of their childhood to help them understand.
“Ace had always been an idiot since we were kids, he would always try to kill the tiger lord” Ann explained, which basically didn’t explain anything at all, if not they were even more confused of what she was saying.
“And the tiger lord is huge, way bigger than Pops” Ann explained with a little bit of frustration, and the pirates with him went agape, a tiger much bigger than Pops? She’s kidding? Right?
“I thought all tigers were that huge?” Now Ann’s eyes were full of confusion, after realizing what they meant.
“Ann? What kind of animals were there in that place?” Kingdew asked with a mixture of curiosity and worry, if that place was that dangerous, who allowed those kids to roam that place?! And Ace?! Really?!
“There were bears, just a bit smaller than the tiger lord, oh and monkeys that can pack quite a strong punch” The way Ann said those words along with a quick swing of her fist caused the 11th division to shudder, what the hell was going on in that island?
“The crocodiles were the best though, Ace always brings back a whole crocodile for dinner!” Ann said and Kingdew swore he just saw her eyes sparkle, but as if on cue he just remembered their previous stories, and it wasn’t that hard to piece the thoughts together.
“WHO WOULD ALLOW KIDS TO HUNT IN SUCH A DANGEROUS PLACE?!” Kingdew is in pure bewilderment, he remembered how she said she was sold as a slave when she was 8, which means the stories that she’s telling them were from when they were younger than that! Kids! They were basically babies at that age!
“Dadan said we need to work to eat, if we don’t then we will starve” Ann said like it was something everyone should know, well it was true in all ways but not for a child! Kingdew felt stressed with all this newfound information.
“But Ace kept on insisting that he would find food because he wants me to stay ‘safe’” Ann said with a snort and using a gesture with her to fingers on both hands to emphasize the word ‘safe’. It would have been funny if only it wasn’t that alarming that actual children had to experience that kind of harsh environment, what’s worst is that Ace’s feral behavior suddenly made so much sense.
“I ended up cleaning the house! It was so boring” Ann whined as she recalled the bits of her childhood that were normal, well she did learn to read and write on her own because Garp would buy her books, she’s the only one of them two who actually liked to study.
“This explains why Ace is so damn good at hunting for food”
“Or how he can sense his prey even before we taught him how to use observation haki”
“Damn so that’s why he was disappointed when we first docked and he said all the wild animals in the forest were babies!”
A series of realizations hit their division members and Kingdew swore they weren’t getting done with any of their tasks, the information dump was unexpected. Kingdew sure would be sharing this information to Whitebeard and the rest of the commanders, and how they should make sure their twins won’t run wild when they dock on an island with a forest.
“Seems like being a part of your division is a good idea” Ann grinned menacingly and Kingdew can clearly see her underlying motive, he wonders what kind of mischief she’s up to now?
“I can show that brother of mine that I can also hunt” She grinned and her eyes sparked with mischief, Kingdew took notes not to take her under his wing, she was a disaster! She did managed to land a few good shots with her impromptu archery fiasco a few days ago but her target was Haruta! She’s just as unhinged as her brother is!
“I’m sure hunting is different from trying to kill a brother with an arrow” Kingdew said while raising a brow, Ann chuckled as she remembered how annoyed Haruta was when she managed to land a hit and the 12th division commander got stuck to the wall, she just hit his clothes but it was enough to spark murderous intents from the said commander and that was a win to her.
Kingdew still doesn’t understand why kids nowadays are so crazy.
“Both have the intention to kill? What’s the difference in that?” Ann asked in confusion and the members of the 11th division let out an indignant squawk, Kingdew was surely baffled but amusement was also there, what kind of lunatic did they pick up this time around?
Ann causes trouble where she goes but there wasn’t even a slight bit of annoyance from the divisions that already experienced her madness. They were rather fond of her shenanigans, her childishness surely brings joy to the ship.
“Why do I feel like we’re raising gremlins?” Kingdew said while shaking his head though the grin was still on his face, they should have expected this, they’re twins, two peas in a pod.
“Gremlins that will be the government’s greatest nightmare” Ann said proudly, well she wanted to become a marine, but if that godforsaken organization doesn’t want her then fuck them! It’s not like she wants to get associated with those who tried to kill her brother anyways.
Garp is an exemption though, she’s stingy that the old man didn’t try to help Ace, but she doesn’t blame him, they had their own beliefs and principles that they stand up to, at least Ann was happy she wasn’t blinded by the marines and she has her freedom now, still ‘fuck the navy and the government’ is her new favorite quote.
Kingdew chuckled as he messed her hair, he knew they would take the world by storm, and it was good to have them in their crew, they can protect them, they can show them what it feels like to have a family, and they can spoil them!
“Sure kid, show your worst” Kingdew chuckled when Ann grinned widely, their youngest being a menace in the making and she’s good at it. Kingdew just hopes that his division could handle her if she chose to stay in their division.
Haruta
Ann adores Haruta, probably second to Ace in terms of brother rankings, not that she would say that out loud, that guy’s a menace and even if he knows how to annoy the hell out of her, she does find his antics funny and amusing. Haruta is her favorite pranking buddy along with Thatch, and it would be better if they’re after each other’s heads instead of them teaming up, the outcomes were always worst if that’s the case.
They bicker a lot, like way too much and when Ace is around, he would add fuel to the fire, Ace loves it when Ann is annoyed, it brings out her childish side that he was used to, and not to be sappy but Ace missed that, she reminds him of the days when they were young.
“I told you! You would fit my division!”
“And have you as my boss? Nuh-uh!!”
The commanders at their table could only face palm while the duo started to bicker again, Haruta was trying to recruit her, and while Ann does think the 12th division has such an interesting job, the sheer amount of pettiness is enough for her to decline the offer, it was both amusing and infuriating!
“I take my job seriously!”
“I know and serious Haruta is so boring so still nuh-uh!!”
The way the other pirates would spare a glance at their table while trying to hold their laughter, the moment the food was out and they could start to eat, the commanders immediately rushed to the buffet just so they could have a few moments away from the two.
“No but in all seriousness, join my division” Haruta states as he gave her a deadpanned look, meanwhile Ann, being the petty one she always has been, she childishly stuck her tongue out, making the commander groan in annoyance.
“Ann, you’re annoying”
“Thanks for the compliment”
Haruta could only snort as he stood up to take his own ration of food, Ann grinned as she followed the commander, happy that she annoyed him. She made her way to the table full of food and she took whatever she liked, Thatch and Marco said that she could eat as much as she wants now and they weren’t strict with her diet because her body had adjusted to her food intake by now.
Haruta would snatch whatever she tries to take making the girl frown and she would harshly nudge Haruta’s shoulder while the said commander would feign ignorance, really there’s no peace whenever these two are around each other.
“I think letting her join the 12th division is a bad idea” Thatch mutters while watching the two argue over a piece of pie, Ace chuckled while munching on the piece of meat, carrying 3 plates of food, as he settled on his seat, he took a glance at his sister that was now having a screaming match of the century against Haruta.
“I think she would fit that division, she used to be a marine geek” Ace said casually and the way the other commanders gasped while some dropped their utensils as they gave Ace a baffled look. Meanwhile Ace continued to gobble his food like he didn’t just say something important.
“Why are you guys looking at Ace like he just grew seven heads?” Haruta said and he snorts while settling himself on his chair, Ann followed afterwards with a bright grin and she sat between Haruta and Ace. The girl stole a piece of potato from the 12th division commander’s plate and instead of retaliating, Haruta could only give the girl a flat look, seemed like she won the battle of being a nuisance for today.
“You guys will understand” Ace said with a grin and he messed Ann’s hair, his twin glared at him while he ignored her murderous look.
---
Later that day, Haruta was busy in their division room, they managed to tap into the marine’s communication system and somehow they managed to eavesdrop on a very serious conversation.
“Donuts crisis, everyone stay away from the headquarters”
“Old hag interfering! Evacuate the area!”
Haruta, along with some of his division members raised a brow while they listened to what the marines were saying, trying to decipher what kind of message that marine code was supposed to mean.
“Donuts crisis? Old hag interfering?” Haruta said with furrowed eyebrows, nothing makes any sense with that, not until an idea came into the commander’s mind, the only possible explanation that code could mean.
“This is trouble!” Haruta said and with the den den in hand, he rushed to the meeting room and he ordered his men to call an emergency meeting for the commanders.
Meanwhile Ann was arguing with Ace about how a dog should wear their pants, poor Stefan was getting involved in their silly arguments as Ann tries to put on the dog pants she bought (with Pop’s money again) on Stefan.
“Seriously, Ace. Just give me Stefan and stop you might burn the pants!” Ann said through gritted teeth as she kept on jumping while trying to take back the dog pants from her brother’s grasps.
But before Ace could even say anything, one of Haruta’s men snatched the 2nd division commander, though Ann didn’t let go of her grasp on him, nope she isn’t stopping until she gets what she wants, which is why she’s now also in the commander’s meeting room and the rest of the commanders were giving the twins their amused look.
“Enough of the idiocy-yoi!” Marco warned and it took a combined effort from Jozu and Curiel to stop the twins from their ongoing cat fight, Izou took the dog pants from Ace and he handed it back to Ann, Ace pouts, Ann grinned victoriously.
“Can we start the meeting? Everyone?” Haruta said in a deadpanned tone and Ann at least had a functioning brain cell and a half to stop herself from laughing, serious Haruta is a dangerous Haruta, and even she doesn’t want to face his wrath if he’s angered related to his work.
So Ann was about to walk away to give them their privacy, when Ace stopped her and he dragged her back to the vacant chair besides him. With widened eyes, she gave Ace a look that’s telling him about what kind of stupidity he’s up to this time.
“Take notes” Ace said while handing her his notebook and pen, Ann gave him a begrudging look and Ace being annoying, stuck his tongue out to annoy her even further, in the end she just obliged to what he wants.
Finally when everything was settled and the emergency meeting started, Haruta handed out some papers with the information that he managed to fish out from the marines, he opened the presentation and the very first slide was a picture of Sengoku, Garp, a giant woman in pink and another tall guy with a scarf around his mouth and chin.
Ann was only familiar with the 2 marines, she doesn’t know who the two other people were so she just wrote whatever information she thinks to be important.
“Based on the information that we gathered, it seems like Big mom is currently attacking Marineford” Haruta explained and the alarmed state of the commanders caused Ann to focus her attention to Haruta, even Whitebeard has that serious look on his face.
“So they chose to invade the headquarters after the war? Are they seriously going to stoop that low?” Blenheim asked with a hint of sarcasm in his voice, the other commanders agreed to his thoughts, technically it was a good idea as the marines were still fresh from the shame of losing, and their headquarters aren’t in good shape, there’s only little to no chances of them winning if they were attacked by another yonko crew, but in the world of piracy, that’s just embarrassing.
“What made you reach that conclusion? My son?” Whitebeard asked and they all focused their attention back to Haruta.
The 12th division commander, put the snail in front of the commanders, and they looked at him in confusion.
“Donut crisis” Haruta states, as if that answered all of their questions, which some of the commanders already had an idea forming in their mind.
“Old hag interfering” Haruta added and if his earlier statement didn’t make any sense, this one seemed to ring the bell as the commanders gasped.
“That’s definitely the Big mom pirates” Namur muttered and they all agreed, they were about to plan their precautionary measures, because when a yonko makes a move, their actions are bound to make a change and it would be the best to prepare for whatever problems they could cause.
“Uhm? Excuse me?” Ann said while raising her hand in a polite manner. Ace and Thatch almost snorts with how she sounded like a different person.
“Yes?” Haruta then focused his attention to their meeting apprentice, both of them were serious and it was a rare sight so the commanders didn’t bother to point it out.
“Can I get enlightened with the reasons why those words became a conclusion that this is a yonko attack?” Ann asked and she seemed to be genuinely interested, the faint shade of red on her cheeks only tells them that she was embarrassed of being unaware and she wants to learn.
Haruta’s gaze softened as he gave her a small smile, not the mischievous or devilish grin he always has whenever she’s around but this one seems like he’s fond, well he certainly does but he avoids showing it because she calls him a sap.
“Because Katakuri…” Haruta paused as he pointed towards the picture of the tall guy with a scarf. “Has a weird obsession with donuts” He added and he proceeds to explain that it wasn’t a common knowledge and how it made sense that they were referring to him, meanwhile the rest of the commanders also chipped in their own reasons.
“And this old hag is the yonko Big mom” Now Haruta pointed to the huge woman that was dressed in pink, Ann nodded as she understood what they’re referring to.
“The top two of a yonko crew at the marine headquarters only means that they’re going for an attack” Haruta explained thoroughly, making sure that he won’t omit any important information to her.
When Haruta finished explaining and it was clear that he made a point, Ann nods while biting her lower lip out of contemplation, she wants to say something but with all the information dump they just gave her, she thinks her ideas might be wrong, after all it’s been years since she heard of a same situation with this.
“Why? Anything to share with us?” Ace asked in confusion, he knows that look too well and even if Ann doesn’t say anything, he can tell that something’s bothering her, she awkwardly scratched the back of her nape while staring at the presentation and the notes that they have.
“I think you might have misinterpreted the whole thing” Ann said barely audible especially during the last part, she didn’t want to offend Haruta and she certainly knows how well he is with his job.
“You have a better idea?” Fossa inquired which Ann answered with a hesitant nod.
If it was another person, Haruta could have gone into hysterics and he would be pissed off, who in the world would question him and his job? But since it was Ann, the commander just gave her an encouraging smile, this seems to help her calm down as she gathered her thoughts and tell them what she knows.
“Gramps also has a weird obsession with donuts” Ann said and she tried to suppress her smile, which happens to be a losing battle because she remembered a funny incident that Garp told them, Ace wasn’t listening back then so he was also confused.
“And he’s aiming for a world record, the last time I recalled it was around 200” Ann adds which made the commanders wince, well Garp is still a D. so they shouldn’t be surprised at all.
“And he would eat at Sengoku’s office, causing a mess which ends up with the fleet admiral and gramps having a fight that can destroy half of the headquarters, which is why most marines are advised to evacuate” Ann explained, earning her a laugh from Whitebeard, because according to Pops, everything she said makes so much sense, why didn’t he think of that in the first place?
“That makes sense! But how about the old hag part?” Ace asked still confused, the other commanders are now invested with the information that Ann was sharing with them.
“If my memory serves me right, vice-admiral Tsuru? Would stop their fight and when she gets involved she can take down the two with one shot but the results ends up with the other half of the headquarters in ruins” Ann explained and the commanders were speechless, their eyes blinking as they stared at her in disbelief.
“That…makes…sense” Speed Jiru said, though he wasn’t sure himself, everyone in the room were speechless, that thought didn’t come into their minds but it was also a possibility that they couldn’t deny.
“I think I can confirm if my idea is right” Ann said awkwardly, and no matter how subtle the commanders try to hide their curious glances between Haruta and Ann, they were obvious that they were expectant.
Haruta on the other hand has that knowing look on his eyes, Marco smirked after realizing what their 12th division commander has in mind.
“I don’t see anything wrong with verifying information, so show us what you’ve got!” Haruta exclaimed, excitement laced in his voice, and even Whitebeard has that knowing grin on his face.
So Ann did as she was told, first thing she did was ask for a den den mushi that she can use to call the marines, Haruta handed her one without a second thought, everyone was anticipating what she was doing, when Haruta dialed the contacts of the marines and the snail started to ring, they waited until someone answered on the other line.
“East Blue’s pastry services calling to confirm orders from vice-admiral Garp” Ann asked using the accent she remembered using back when they were in East Blue, Ace was watching her in awe, it’s been a while since he last heard someone use that accent.
“I’m sorry--- run to the ship!! Uhm excuse me for that maam!—yes ship number 8! But please cancel the orders! Vice-admiral Tsuru is already handling them, sorry for the inconveniences!”
And without further notice, the other end of the line hung up, the commanders exchanged glances between Ann and the snail. Ann blinked her eyes, while waiting for what they have to say, when she suddenly shrieked as Haruta was suddenly by her side and the said commander’s mischief was right back in place as he cupped both of her cheeks to make her face him.
“Join my division!” He said excitedly, Ann frowned as she shake her head, the stubbornness was back as well and she tried to keep his hands away from her face but Haruta only grinned back.
“You just proved why you deserve to be in my division!” Haruta reasoned and for the first time, everyone actually agreed. With her knowledge about marine codes, even the ones that only those in the headquarters know is something that could be of use in the 12th division.
“You’re joining my division!”
“No”
“I can make you my second in command”
“Nope”
“You can do whatever you want”
“Nuhh-uh!”
“Come on! Join my division!”
“Never!”
“Damn it!”
Atmos
After the whole commotion in the meeting room, the commanders were finally dismissed, and since work was over, Haruta was now back to pestering Ann as the said commander was determined to have her in his division.
Ann kept on running away, she was even hiding inside one of the pockets of Whitebeard’s cloak just so she could escape the very persistent commander.
Atmos along with the other commanders couldn’t contain their laughter, with the information that their little sister is knowledgeable about marine codes, she would definitely have a hard time in keeping the 12th division commander away from her.
Afterwards, the commanders were back to doing their tasks, Atmos’s division comprises of boatswains, their main job is to keep the ship in check, while Blamenco and Blenheim’s division is in charge of fixing any damages, the 13th division’s job is to find any possible damages, along with the loading and unloading of their cargos and supplies.
So when they did manage to get some supplies from the inhabited island, thanks to Kingdew’s division for checking the place and some members hunting for food, Atmos was now checking their hauls and everything that they have on board, with his division members following him of course.
They could still hear Ann’s muffled screams from the deck along with the laughter of some of the commanders, how Atmos wished he could finish his job already so he can watch the kids and their shenanigans, it was amusing to say the least. The Moby felt more lively since they got Ann on board, even Ace was acting like his age now that his sister is with them.
“Food supplies are currently being transferred to the 4th division, commander”
Atmos nods as one of the members of the 13th division said his reports, they were all busy checking on the other supplies and arranging them together based on which division they are taking them, all was good until they opened one of the boxes and Atmos swore he almost got himself a heart attack with how they found Ann hiding inside.
“Hehehe” That’s all Ann has to say and she would spare a glance at the open division room, probably checking to see if Haruta was off her tail. Atmos wanted to scold her, but how could he when she had that pleading look on her face.
“You’re also stealthy, you sure you don’t want to join the 12th division?” Atmos said, only for him to get a betrayed look from the girl in front of them.
“Not you too! You know how disastrous it is when me and Haruta team up!” Ann reasoned which made Atmos chuckle, everyone on the ship is well aware of that fact by now.
“Then how about joining my division instead?” Atmos said as a joke, but when Ann grinned and she jumped out of the box, her hands on her hips as she gave them a meaningful grin, something she does when she’s either about to start shit or she was going to do something stupid.
“You won’t mind me lending a hand and see if I suit your division, right?” She said with a grin, the past few weeks that she’s been in the Moby, it was evident that she’s already comfortable with everyone around, she was nowhere even near to being intimidated by the commanders.
“Then I can give you this task?” Atmos asked while showing her a list of medical supplies and the categories that they belong to, Ann frowned while reading the long list but she still nodded anyways, what's with all these fancy stuffs? Ann thought to herself, she might pester Marco later to explain whatever they are.
“What’s with these weird names?” Ann said and she snorts, she wasn’t that aware with anything on the list, she was clueless but of course she was stubborn.
“You can help with those who are handling the supplies for the 4th divi—”
Atmos wasn’t able to finish what he was saying when Ann was already walking towards where the medical supplies are, she seemed to be too immersed in her thoughts that she didn’t hear Atmos calling for her, so to minimize any possible troubles that she could cause, the commander decided to follow their youngest and check whatever progress she will be having.
The other members of the 13th division would spare a glance at Ann, some stepping out of her way since she wasn’t paying attention to her surroundings, she was fully focused on the paper that Atmos gave her.
In Ann’s mind, the names were dumb, it doesn’t make any sense, who would name their products like this? Did the concept of simplicity evaded the world during those years that passed while she was enslaved?
“I think you should use this instead” Atmos muttered while taking the paper away from her, partly worrying for their own work while also worrying that she would gain wrinkles from an early age because of how stressed she looked like.
Ann’s eyes sparkled as she stared at the new list she has in hand, now those are words she can understand! Flour, eggs, fruits, sugar, salt, meat, fish, and other types of food that she can imagine, there were also boxes that were labeled into different categories and Ann could just arrange them accordingly, it was easy task for her, a piece of cake even.
“You’re good at assorting them” Atmos comments as he watched her, Ann had that weary smile as she stared at the apple she’s holding.
“One of the tasks I frequently do at Mary Geoise, one wrong move and I’m dead so this is nothing” Ann explained causing the rest of the pirates who heard her to froze on their tasks as they gave her a worried look. Atmos was about to interfere and tell her that she doesn't need to do this if it brings back those traumatic memories, but Ann beat him into it.
“But doing this on my free will feels good” Ann added and she gave them a reassuring smile, what she said wasn’t a lie, it feels nice, just some chores and not a life threatening situation.
Helping out the 13th division did help her keep herself busy throughout the day, Atmos was explaining to her those that she finds it complicated and she easily learns which wasn’t a problem at all. She was also getting along with the rest of the members of the division.
When all their tasks for that day was finished and she was now about to go back to her room, when she noticed that Atmos was heading somewhere, due to her curiosity, she took a detour and followed the commander instead.
Of course Atmos knew that she was following him, she wasn’t subtle at all. So when the commander was now at one of the back portion of the deck, where his little haven was found, a smile crept on the commander’s face as he heard Ann’s gasp.
“Woah?? Are all of these yours?!” Ann said in astonishment, not bothering to hide the amazement of the sight she just saw. Atmos smiled and he nodded.
“Is planting also a part of your division job?” Ann asked curiously, she crouched down to have a clearer view of the flowers that are aligned neatly on one of the flower beds.
Atmos chuckled as he shake his head as an answer, Ann watched the variety of flowers and plants in front of her, then she shifted her gaze to the commander that was now holding a little box and he took out a small scissor.
“It’s a hobby of mine” Atmos explained while settling to sit down on the deck, while Ann was now eyeing the daisies on the side, she didn’t know that there was a mini garden at the back side of the deck, which they can’t blame her since the Moby is huge and Atmos’s garden is on the hidden part of the ship.
“A tiring one especially when a storm hits” Atmos joked while he cuts off the dried leaves, letting the calming atmosphere soothe his nerves as the sunset was now their backdrop.
Ann winced a bit, remembering the harsh storms of the New World, how did these plants even survive?
Atmos seemed to sense her confusion so he called Ann, when the younger’s attention was now focused on the commander, he lifted his entire garden with ease, Ann’s jaw dropped as her gaze shifted between the floor that now has a hollow space and to where Atmos was carrying a large piece of wood where on top of it was his garden.
“No need to worry” Atmos smiled when Ann was still dumbfounded of what just happened.
“You guys are really prepared for everything, aren’t you?” Ann said in awe, Atmos chuckled as he shrugged, well years of experience speaks for itself.
Ann watched as Atmos treats his plants like they were his kids, she watched the commander talk to it like they could understand whatever he was saying, the little pot of marigold receiving extra amount of attention so Ann assumes that those were his favorite, she also noticed the little plant that she remembers that one of Kingdew’s men showed them when they were on a inhabited island.
It was calming and relaxing, in a way it made the commander look less intimidating, it was adorable even.
Ann was getting comfortable, so when Atmos was about to water the plants and call it a day, Ann volunteered, her childlike expression was enough for her to earn a fond smile from the commander.
“The pail and dipper is too big for you” Atmos reasoned, which was true, the dipper itself was twice the size of Ann, perfect size for a huge commander but definitely too large for their youngest. Even his watering can won't help her with the case.
“Don’t worry, I can manage” Ann said confidently while grinning, Atmos was confused but he nodded anyways, just feeling a little antsy because it’s his precious plants that we’re talking about!
Ann smiled and now Atmos was dumbfounded when the water in the pail suddenly moved towards the plants, and with a flick of her finger, it was suddenly showering to where the plants are.
Ann grinned smugly, she’s at least getting a hang of using her devil fruit abilities and they do come in handy most of the times.
“Now I get it why you’re in demand” Atmos said while he sat back on the deck as he watched Ann enjoy watering his plants, her chatters and laughter brings joy to his heart as she also seemed to be genuinely interested in his hobbies, having her around is like having a child’s presence.
“Why? Offering me to join your division as well?” Ann said with a smug grin and Atmos could only laugh and nod as a response.
Who wouldn’t want to have Ann in their division anyways?
Notes:
I enjoyed writing Haruta's part, they're such a chaotic duo😂
Chapter Text
Speed Jiru
Ann was on her tiptoes, peeking through the window, a frown on her face while watching the said division.
“Did Ace give me the wrong directions?” Ann whispered to herself as she huffs in annoyance along with a pout.
She spared one last glance to the room in front of her and she was about to head back to the deck to pick a fight with Ace, when the 14th division commander was now standing in front of her. Ann froze on her spot while Jiru was giving her a confused look.
“Jiru-san!! I was just looking for you!” Ann said with a sheepish grin which made the said commander shiver, he swore he just saw her eyes darken and he could see the mischief in that smile.
Is it my schedule for babysitting?
Jiru thought to himself, well the other commanders would say that they have a new chore in the ship and they call it ‘babysitting Portgas D. Ann duties’ and yes the commanders are either fond or scared of having that duty. They like her presence but she’s a handful.
“I want to see your division!” She said in a far too cheery manner, oh Jiru remembered that tone, one she had when she almost sliced everyone up on the 5th division, or when she ended up using Blamenco as her personal backpack.
“You’re already in front of our division room” Jiru said with a slight tilt of the head, emphasizing his confusion, which now mirrored Ann’s expression.
“Eh? Ace didn’t give me the wrong directions?!” Ann said stupefied and she turned herself around to peek at the window again, well nothing changed from the first time she stole a quick glance, it was all so… normal.
Amongst the rooms inside the Moby, this room seems to be the most normal, which for a pirate ship is unusual.
“Where’s the guns? The swords? Weapons? The crates?” Ann muttered, earning herself a chuckle from the commander as he ruffled her hair.
“We don’t have those in our division, my dear” Jiru said fondly as he opened the door, urging their youngest to get inside and check it for herself.
With no hesitation in her steps, Ann quickly followed the 14th division commander, they were immediately greeted by his division members along with some members that Ann recognized to be in the other divisions, what are they even doing here?
“What are you guys supposed to be?” Ann asked full of curiosity, glancing between Jiru and his division members.
They were currently in the most normal looking room, just as big as the rest but it was spacious, surrounded by tables, books and shelves, they even have whiteboards and markers along with pens and coloring materials.
“Hmmm? How do I explain our division role?” Speed Jiru thought while looking over his division members and Ann followed his gaze, a smile crept on the commander’s lips.
“Think of us as a daycare center!” Jiru said with a grin, earning himself groans and complaints from the rest of the people inside the room.
“We’ve passed the daycare level!”
“We’re at least middle school level!”
“That’s slander, commander!”
A series of complaints followed which only added to the smug grin that Jiru has, with that being said, Ann looked around and she tilt her head to further confusion, her reaction made Jiru pause.
“Don’t tell me you don’t know what a daycare center is?” Jiru was baffled when she nods, he thinks back to when Ace came on board, well both the twins know how to read and write so they never really needed the help of his division, so he concluded that the twins at least attended school.
“Daycare? School? Where you study to read and write?” Even Jiru sounded so unsure of himself, why was he even explaining here?
“Ohhh! The ones I would see in the village! So that’s what they’re called” Ann said and her face brightened with the realization, Jiru knows that there are people on board who has no idea about daycares and school either, but it was odd because Ace and Ann knew how to read.
“Did your guardians teach you how to read?” Jiru inquired, well if she’s already knowledgeable when they joined, so probably they have guardians who taught them what they know, right?
“Nope! I learned to read and write on my own” Ann explained and everyone went quiet, even those who were teaching their crewmates to read paused on their tasks as they stared at her in disbelief.
“That’s impossible!” Jiru stated, completely baffled, a child learning to read and write without any adult supervision?
“Dadan just taught me the sounds of the alphabet, I learned all the other things afterwards” Ann explained, like that just makes sense, which it does but still!
“I can’t believe an idiot like you is actually smart” Jiru muttered which earned him a glare from their youngest, Jiru chuckled awkwardly, he wasn’t supposed to say that out loud. Well she does act like an idiot especially when she’s with Ace and Haruta so don’t blame the other commanders!
“I would ask gramps to buy me some books so I won’t have to read the same ones over and over again” Ann added, she does remember how Garp would buy her a lot of books and she was excited whenever he comes home to visit them, much to Ace’s terror because according to him, their ‘shitty old man’ packs quite a painful punch.
And according to Ann’s logic back then, Ace deserved those fist of love because he was such an idiot.
“And I guess you’re the one who taught Ace how to read?” Jiru inquired, because that’s the only possible conclusion that they could think of, Ace does seem like the type to practice his punches and kicks rather than sit and read on his own accord.
“Nope! That idiot hates studying!” Ann said in fond exasperation in her voice, a small smile crept on her face as she remembered how much Ace hated the idea of studying, because according to Ace’s logic, as long as he’s strong, he will survive.
“But I can’t believe pirate crews also have daycare centers!” Ann said with a fond smile growing on her face, she always wanted to go to school and study, just like the kids at the village.
“Well we might actually be the only crew who has one” Jiru explained, now the girl was even more invested in their conversation.
“Pops insists that if his children wants to learn, then it’s never too late for that!” Jiru said fondly while recalling the memories of how their division came to be.
It all started when one of their newest recruits asked him if he could teach him how to read and write, because he wants to write a letter to the person who raised him until he set sail, which Jiru agreed to.
“It all started just for helping each other, then it became an official thing and that’s how this division came to be” Jiru further explained as he showed her around their division room, Ann’s eyes widened and the members of the 14th division swore they saw her eyes sparkle at the sight of the books.
“You like to read?” The commander inquired, and Ann nods, she was always fond of reading, a very effective way to escape reality.
“I don’t like Marco’s books though, they’re so complicated and boring” Ann said and the people of the 14th division chuckled, most of them nodding in approval, they weren’t a fan of medical books and that’s quite obvious.
“So who taught that firecracker how to read?” The commander piped as he showed her the book section where they could find some mythologies and folklore from the different blues and the grand line.
Ann was recalling what she remembered, not tearing her gaze away from the books in front of her, now those are exactly her cup of tea.
“Ace never liked reading or studying in general, his only goal was to get stronger and stronger” Ann explained and a soft smile was on her face the next moment, as she recalled the stories that Ace told him, about what she missed when she wasn’t around anymore.
“He told me that Sabo would force him and Luffy into studying so they got a hang of the basics, though Luffy would just sleep or zone out throughout the whole session” Ann chuckled, clearly imagining what they looked like, it wasn’t that hard to picture those moments, she was just sad that she didn’t get to meet their other brother, Sabo. She would love to thank him for the patience that he has for her brother.
“And this nice lady named Makino took over that role after Sabo, well this time he wasn’t stubborn because he wanted to learn, so that Sabo’s efforts won’t be in vain” Ann explained, well that’s what Ace told her, she really couldn’t believe it at first when she saw Ace reading, hence he was even submitting his paper works on time! Though this time it seems like her brother has plans to let her do all his paper works, hmp.
“So now can I read those books?!” Ann said so sudden and they averted their gaze to the shelf, a set books from the South Blue, Jiru nods as he reached for the book that she was pointing at, which happens to be a story about a mythical bird.
“Eh? Isn’t this Marco?” Ann asked while examining the cover of the book where a blue and yellow bird was in front.
“A flaming turkey? Yes, that’s definitely Marco” Jiru said with a grin and a laugh, the rest of his division laughing along with him, Ann also has that devilish grin while reading the title.
Tales of a Phoenix
“Can I spend my free time here? I promise I won’t cause any trouble!” She pleads, eyes begging and Jiru knew he could never say no, not when she’s using those puppy eyes on him! Nope not even Jozu can resist those!
“Fine, just behave!” Jiru said with a slight glare, making Ann nod and she took one of the vacant seats at the far corner of the room, the 14th division commander just hopes that she would stay true to her words.
And much to Jiru’s astonishment, she wasn’t actually causing any troubles at all, she was just quietly sitting at the corner and she’s fully immersed in the book that she’s reading, aside from her occasional giggles and snorts that would catch their attention, she was just there, in her own little world.
Jiru would have to blink and rub his eyes just to make sure that his eyes weren’t playing tricks on him.
“Are you sure she’s feeling well? Commander?” One guy from his division whispered while sparing Ann a worried look, everything’s been too peaceful since she visited their division room, and it was odd! The rumors of her being a menace and causing trouble did spread throughout the ship.
She was well invested in the book and Jiru saw her smirk, a hint of mischief briefly in her eyes before the curiosity was back and she’s buried in the book again, the commander could only blink, she wasn’t up to anything diabolical, right? Well hopefully not, Jiru was already planning to brag to the other commanders that he could keep her sane when the others were completely lost to her craziness.
And until the day ended and it was time for dinner, she didn’t do anything crazy, yep Jiru earned his bragging rights!
---
Dinner was on the brink of chaos, Marco is so close to losing his shit especially with their youngest that was now sitting in front of him, she was ignoring her food because she’s very much persistent in annoying him, he just wants to eat in peace and have a goodnight sleep afterwards! Is that too much to ask?
“So you’re actually a flaming turkey! And they just called you a phoenix to give you a fancy and scary name?” Ann asked, with a little note in his hands as she was busy writing down his answers.
“I am not a turkey-yoi”
“A blazing chicken then?”
“A phoenix is a mythical bird, who even gave you that turkey and chicken idea-yoi?” Marco asked in a deadpanned tone, Jiru was just quietly listening to the conversation, feigning ignorance while trying to stop himself from bursting into a laughing fit, this was hilarious, even Haruta and Ace were out right making fun of the 1st division commander.
“Phoenix is a real mythical bird, got it!” Ann wrote down while Marco raised a brow, judging her words.
“You realize what you just said was contradicting-yoi?” Marco muttered and he took a spoonful of rice, watching Ann’s reaction with the sudden realization. But soon she just shake her head.
“It’s a mythical bird, but because you exist, so it means it’s real!” Ann reasoned and some of the commanders agreed while some argued that it was the devil fruit talking, which sparked a debate from the other commanders, Ann ignored them and focused on Marco instead.
“So you like sparkling things? Is that why you always wear a chain?” Ann asked while sparing a glance at the chain on Marco’s waist, the said commander followed her gaze and he snorts.
“That’s called fashion-yoi” Marco reasoned and oh Haruta and Ace were losing their shit, clearly enjoying Marco’s suffering while Ann nods along with the whisper of ‘Shiny things, a flaming turkey’s fashion’, which Marco chose to ignore for the sake of his own sanity.
“You sleep in a nest?” Ann blinked and this time even Curiel and Namur snorted while they bit their lip to stop themselves from laughing, Marco sighed, he was too old for this kind of shit!
“I sleep in a bed!”
“He doesn’t want anyone inside his room! There’s surely a nest somewhere in there!” Vista butted in, earning him a glare from the Phoenix, Ann nods while noting what Vista just said.
“Sleeps in a bed, but has a nest somewhere in his room” Ann recalled and Jiru was very close to losing his cool as well, it was hilarious, even the pirates at the nearby tables were eavesdropping their conversations already.
“There’s no nest-yoi!” Marco complained but it only fell into deaf ears because Ann now believes what Vista just said, there’s no way to change her mind at least for a couple of days.
“Now the most important question, you lay golden eggs?” The way Ann asked that in the most serious way was the breaking point, every commander was now laughing and all the attention were on them. Pops, even him was laughing heartily which echoed through the room.
“GURARARARA THAT’S A GOOD ONE!”
“MARCO’S ABOUT TO POP A VEIN HAHAHAHA!”
“THAT WAS HARSH!”
“We always tease the turkey about laying eggs but seriously?! Golden eggs?! Where the fuck did that came from?!” Rakuyo was barely breathing from the laughing fit that he had gotten himself into, Haruta is so close to peeing on his pants, more side comments were being thrown and Marco just sighed, just a little more patience to get this over with.
“I don’t lay any kind of eggs-yoi” Marco doesn’t understand himself, why was he even humoring her questions when he would usually ignore all the turkey related questions because he knows damn well that it would always end up with them making fun of him whatever his answers be?
“Is that all?” Marco asked flatly and this time he was just watching her go over her notes, Ann nods as an answer, she didn’t even spare the phoenix a glance.
“So can I ask? Where did you get all those ideas?” Marco inquired and she instantly brightened as she took a book from the side of her chair and she basically shoved it right in front of Marco’s face.
Tales of a Phoenix
Marco sighed deeply, it wasn’t that hard for him to piece the clues together, he should have been suspicious when Jiru wouldn’t even spare him a glance despite the 14th division commander’s awful attempt to stop himself from laughing, he should have known, of course she was influenced because there’s no way their pure and kind youngest would outright make fun of him.
Fossa
Fossa doesn’t know why he has to deal with her, of course all of the commanders has their own fair share of stories and troubles regarding their youngest member, she was suddenly in front of his division room, a sheepish grin on her face, which by now everyone already knows that means she’s up to no good.
“I thought you like staying in the 14th division?” Fossa asked, well after the whole phoenix interview last dinner, everyone thought that she would keep herself at Jiru’s division.
“I borrowed some books but I still want to explore the rest of the divisions!” She answered like it was such an obvious thing, Jiru’s division indeed felt like heaven to her curious heart, but she wants to explore the rest of the ship as well! And besides she can still borrow books even if she wasn’t in the 14th division anyways.
“Now show me what you guys do!” Ann said excitedly and she was about to open the door to the 15th division’s room when Fossa picked her up like a cat and placed her back to where she was standing earlier.
With a pout on her face, she glared at the commander in front of him, she was far from intimidating, Fossa almost cooed at how adorable she is.
“We fix weapons, we mostly work with the 10th division” Fossa explained, while Ann listened to what he was saying.
“So don’t cause trouble, I know you’re a logia but don’t do anything that can get your hands cut off” Fossa added making Ann gulp, that thought was scary, the commander tried to suppress his smile, her reaction’s priceless!
“Hands in my pocket! Aye aye sir!” She said with a little salute and then afterwards she did put both of her hands inside the front pocket of the hoodie that she was wearing.
With that being said, Fossa led the girl into his division room, which was full of weapons and busy pirates fixing whatever they place in front of them.
“Are you guys always this busy?” Ann asked in awe as her eyes roamed around the place, the place was full of weapons, not like Curiel’s division where the weapons are neatly in place and they were assorted, Fossa’s division was more messy and disorganized, well it could be because everyone’s busy fixing things instead of cleaning up their mess.
“It’s not usually this disorganized here, but after the war at Marineford, we got a lot of fixing stuffs to do” Fossa explained, Ann nods, well that explains why there are so many swords, guns and riffles that needs to be fixed.
“We did manage to steal some arms and swords from the marines during the war, so add them up to the number of weapons needed to be fixed” Fossa explained though he wasn’t sure if their youngest was listening or not, she was staring intently at the swords while the members of the 15th division were putting the blades back into their hilt, while the others were realigning the blades.
“Another cool division!” Ann said excitedly while her gaze were still fixed on the working pirates, Fossa smiled slightly, Blenheim did say that Ann finds amusement in their work, even if others deem their job to be boring.
Ann was subtly reaching for one of the finished swords when a member from the 15th division was quick to give her a glare, making their youngest gulp as she instantly apologized, Fossa laughed while Ann hid behind his back.
“Some of the division members are scarier than the commanders” Ann whispered and Fossa couldn’t agree less!
“So that’s why I advise you to keep your hands inside your pocket” Fossa teased, and their youngest was quick to hide her hands, not risking them getting bitten off by the 15th division members.
“Vista, Izou and Curiel, they usually bring whatever their division needs to be fixing here” Fossa added and this time he led their youngest to the other side of the room where his division members were dismembering some guns and they were changing some parts.
“We also fix the lights and water lines” Fossa explained while showing her a part of their division room where some pipes were connected and they passed through the walls.
“Huh? You guys also manage the water lines?!” Ann was baffled, she always thought that their water system in the ship was just like the normal ones back in Marie jois, certainly they have showers and faucets in the Moby, unlike the buckets where they store water back in the bandit’s house.
“Just to make sure no one uses all of our supplies, like if someone takes too long in the shower” Fossa explained which made Ann grin, after a few moments they heard someone scream and a sheepish smile was now on the commander’s face.
Afterwards, Fossa’s den den mushi rang, while the said commander already seemed to be expecting the call.
Ann giggled when she heard Rakuyo’s voice from the den den, the other commander ranting about he wasn’t done taking a shower and he still has shampoo on his hair.
“I shower once a week! You’re being stingy!!” Rakuyo reasoned, trying to convince the 15th division commander to give his water supply back. Ann frowned after finding out they don’t shower everyday, well they’re pirates so she can’t really blame them.
With a sheepish smile she reached for the den den, which Fossa gave to her, sensing the mischief in her smile.
“Rakuyo-san!” Ann was acting all innocent, but Fossa snorts because seeing her face she looked like she’s up to trouble.
“Eh? Ann? What are you doing there?” Now it was Rakuyo who seemed to be confused, the snail that now morphed into his features were now staring intently at Ann, like she just offended him personally.
“And you never call me that! You’re up to something, aren’t you?!” Rakuyo said and Ann grinned, was she that obvious? Well that wasn’t the point.
“I can help with your problem” Ann said with a smug grin, which only made Rakuyo snort as he raised a judging brow, the snail imitated his actions.
“If you can’t convince Fossa that I haven’t reached my bath water quota yet, then there’s no hope young lad!” Rakuyo said sarcastically earning him a snicker from some members of the 15th division.
“I’m a water logia, remember?” Ann muttered, the snail blinked, Fossa finally gets her point. Their youngest grinned when Rakuyo’s eyes shined in understanding.
“My favorite sister! Can you do me a favor?” Rakuyo said and Fossa along with the rest of his division laughed at Rakuyo’s antics.
“You would owe me a favor after this you know?” Ann said, and she’s just waiting for Rakuyo to fall into her trap, Fossa didn’t mind and he was just waiting for the events to unfold, it’s not everyday that they get to see entertainment.
“Anything for my dearest and most beloved sibling!” Rakuyo sounded awfully sweet that it almost made Ann end the call in an instant, Fossa was enjoying the moment. Both of them were looking dumb and hey it was amusing.
“Okie!” With that being said, Ann ended the call and she handed the snail back to Fossa, a menacing grin on her face, and whatever plans she has, Fossa knew Rakuyo would regret agreeing to her whims.
“Now how can I help?” Ann asked while glancing at the pipes at the wall. Fossa took that as a cue to lead their youngest to where their main source of fresh water on the ship is found, it was a big room, with a gigantic barrel at the middle, there were ladders and pipes leading to somewhere but Ann’s full attention was at their main source.
The water was already halfway through the barrel, it was still a lot but not enough for the entire ship until the next time they dock if they don’t use it wisely.
“We need to make sure the water supply will last until the next island, which explains Rakuyo’s incident earlier” Fossa explained and Ann now understood, she would also be pissed off if their supplies ran out just because of some people who can’t minimize their consumption.
“If I fill that up, the crew won’t have trouble with taking baths, right?” Ann asked, Fossa nods while leaning on the railings that separates them from the huge barrel, well he was also keeping an eye on their youngest because she can still drown if she falls, though the commander thinks her ability is both ridiculous and convenient at the same time.
“No one will have problems with unwashed shampoo” Fossa assured her and Ann giggled as she made some weird motions with her hand and she focused her attention to the barrel in front of her.
“Waterfall!!” She said excitedly, probably the first time she used this technique and out of her hands was a huge surge of water.
Fossa was honestly surprised with her control and how she’s doing a good job, she even looked smug with her powers.
“I wasn’t expecting you to pull it off” Fossa said honestly while staring at their almost full barrel of water.
“Hey! It took me 3 weeks to perfect this move!” Ann whined and she pouted childishly, she was proud that all of her efforts didn’t go down the drain, she’s sure Ace would be proud because her brother was the one who suffered with all of her failed attempts.
“I need have full control over my power if I don’t want to cause any trouble… and by that I mean the unintentional trouble” Ann grinned again while she glanced at the barrel, she knew she’s walking chaos and she loves to cause trouble, blame Thatch and Haruta for that influence, but she would never do anything that could truly hurt those dear to her.
“This crew might be full of idiots but it feels like home” Ann said fondly and she placed her hands down, happy to see that their water supply was full again, she didn’t even notice that Fossa was looking at her fondly, if his division members saw him, he would have been teased to death the same way Curiel and Blenheim were suffering from right now.
“I’ll continue to work hard so Pops and everyone can be proud of me!” Ann said with determination on her voice and her hands on her hips, Fossa wished he had a camera snail with him, the other commanders would fold seeing her like this, she was adorable!
“We’re already proud of you, you did save us all, remember?” Fossa said fondly, he ruffled her hair as he led her back to their main division room, he did have to inform them that they wouldn’t have problems with their water supply.
“That was pure luck! I want to kick our enemy’s ass without tripping over my own feet!” Ann said and she huffed, she was annoyed that she didn’t get to give that magma bastard a beating for trying to kill her brother, and also the fleet admiral as well! Even if he is Garp’s best friend she wouldn’t hesitate to pick a fight with him for putting her brother on the execution platform!
“I’m sure you’ll get there” Fossa said fondly, unaware of the prying eyes of his division members, yep he’s definitely getting the Curiel and Blenheim treatment after this.
Their youngest surely has the commanders wrapped around her fingers.
“EVERYONE WE HAVE A FULL WATER SUPPLY! RECONNECT THOSE WHO GOT CUT OFF FROM THEIR SHOWERS!” Fossa announced, the rest of his division gave him a confused look while those in charge of their water supply has a fond smile.
“Thanks to our little miss her” Fossa said proudly and Ann grinned looking immensely proud with herself, she was happy to know that she was able to help in her own ways, she is very fond of this crew after all.
The members of the 15th division were all glad that they won’t be receiving any calls regarding their water supply, at least for the following days.
“I think you should join our division!” Someone from the 15th division said, followed by a series of agreement from the rest of the people inside, even Fossa was silently agreeing to what they were saying.
Ann’s grin widened as she gave them a smug look, eyeing a certain side of the division room.
“It means I get to fix some swords?!” She asked getting all giddy and excited, a collective silence enveloped the room as they looked at her in disbelief, she still has stars in her eyes as she was looking expectant at their commander.
Fossa thought for a while, the members of his division looked petrified, they know their commander already is fond of their youngest, and if he agrees then good luck to the division members who’s in charge of fixing the swords, they should practice on their armament haki if that’s the case.
“I would have to say no, the whole fiasco with the 5th division gave a long lasting impression you know?” Fossa explained and she instantly huffed, pouting in annoyance and the rest of the 15th division chuckled at her cuteness.
Izou
Izou was in the middle of training the members of his division, with their guns in hand as they aimed at their targets at the firing range within the ship, which is most likely where the members of the 16th division spend most of their time. A room with a huge window so the sounds of the gunshots wouldn’t cause much damage to their ears, yet they still wear precautionary ear plugs so they won’t go deaf.
“IZOU!! IZOU!! IZOU!! IZ—”
Ann was looking for the commander, more likely running to save her life as Rakuyo’s weapon was after her again, all she did was ask Rakuyo to take over her night shift duties for a week as a favor for what she did at Fossa’s division! Well Rakuyo was thankful that he could take longer baths so he had no problem with that, but his weapon was acting like a bitch again! Ann believes Kali holds a personal grudge against her! This has nothing to do with the said weapon in the first place!
“IZOU HELPPPPPP!!” Ann screeched, the other pirates on the deck found her situation amusing as they chuckled while watching her run off.
She knew everyone would just laugh at her, even her twin! Such a betrayal! Though Izou would also find this amusing, at least the 16th division commander would help her if she used her puppy eyes on him.
“Turn left and find the firing range! Izou’s probably there!” A pirate from the 15th division shouted, Ann thanked him and she went straight to the direction he said, she saw a door with a gun sign which she concluded to be the firing range, she immediately opened it and she managed to close it right in front of Kali’s face! Huh take that you persistent idiotic weapon!
Though that moment, a series of gunshots was heard throughout the room and Ann immediately covered her ears, she scanned the place and she finally saw Izou, standing by the railings while looking down to monitor his division’s performance.
The youngest grinned and she skipped towards the commander, the closer she gets the harder she pressed her hands on her ears, damn so this is why she gets warned that this division room is off limits.
“Izou!!” Ann called but her voice was drowned by the sound of the firing guns, her eyes sparkled after seeing the members of the 16th division hitting their targets! They’re so damn cool!
Izou was focused on his task when he suddenly felt someone’s presence at his side, the commander’s eyes widened when he saw Ann and she wasn’t wearing ear plugs! This idiot!
“Idiot!” Izou muttered and he immediately pushed a certain button by his left side and the lights turned red, making the 16th division members stop instantly from their firing practice and they all glanced at their commander.
Izou was glaring at Ann, the said girl was still clueless as her eyes were now focused on the red lights, Izou sighed as he took his ear plugs off.
“And what are you doing here?” Izou chirped, hands on his waist as he raised a brow to their little intruder. Ann straightened her posture and she faced the commander, a sheepish smile on her face.
“Kali was trying to kill me, the other commanders were just making fun of the situation so I was looking all over the place for you” Ann said with an annoyed huff and she pouts, Izou’s expression softened as he smiled, it wasn’t a secret that he’s one of the commanders that would go through hell just to give her what she wants.
“I’ll be giving them a good nagging later, don’t worry my dear” Izou said while ruffling her hair, the youngest beamed and she gave him a quick hug, she knew Izou would take her side!
“Now with that aside, why don’t you try shooting some targets?” Izou said and he held both of her shoulders, letting her face the firing range where the other members of the 16th division were staring at them, Ann smiled and she waved at them, feeling excited already with Izou’s offer.
“Yes!!” She was jumping and she didn’t wait for Izou as she took the stairs and run to where they are, Izou following her closely from behind.
“You sure this is a good idea, commander?” Izou chuckled as he nodded, he knew how Ann could be such a disaster but he can manage.
Ann was excited, she was about to reach for the practice guns when Izou stopped her, a knowing grin as he held her wrist.
“I have a better idea” The moment Izou let go of her wrist, Ann was sulking but she did listen to Izou.
“Use your devil fruit instead” The commander suggests and it earned him a confused tilt of the head like he just said something stupid.
“Commander! You’re risking our gun powders!” A division member complained, Izou ignored them and he thought for a while, thinking of how he can explain it to her.
“You’re learning how to use haki? Am I right?” He received a nod as an answer, okay that’s great!
“I’m getting the hang of basic armament haki, though my observation haki sucks” Ann answers honestly, she think she doesn’t have conqueror’s haki unlike her brother, so she’s trying to hone the two types of haki, with observation good as going down the drain with her current status.
“You can cover your water bullets with haki, then they would be as good as the standard bullets, stronger even depending on the circumstances” Izou explained patiently, which he wasn’t sure if that would work but hey it’s a good idea! He will even help her with that.
And the way Ann looked at him in delight warmed his heart, he cooed at how adorable his sister is!
They spend the entire day mastering that technique, which started in chaos with how she was not hitting any of their targets, good thing they chose to start with basic water bullets and not the haki coated ones, so aside from the wet patches all over the place there was no harm done.
It was actually amusing and the 16th division members were cheering her on.
“Steady your aim, focus on your target” Izou muttered, her right hand was on a gun gesture and she was shooting the water bullets through her index finger, the members of the 16th division never had thought they would get to see their commander teach someone to shoot without using actual guns.
Izou didn’t mind them as he fixed the angle of her arm and hand, with his talent as a sharpshooter he aligned her position and when he was satisfied with her stance, he gave her a reassuring smile.
“Now try it” The commander said and despite the initial uncertainty, Ann shot a water bullet and for the first time, it actually hits a target. Her eyes widened and with a smile so bright, she was jumping in excitement while her whole being radiated with joy, it brought a smile to Izou’s face.
“I hit the target! Izou did you see that?! I hit a target!!” She kept on repeating those words, the commander nods and he fondly patted her head.
---
“Izou is her favorite hmp” Thatch mumbled and his face dropped flat on the table, letting out a loud thud, more than he intended. The other commanders looked at him in pity.
The commanders just finished eating their dinner, after running away from Rakuyo’s weapon, Ann was out of sight for the rest of the day, and the only time they got to see her was during dinner, she arrived at the galley with Izou, and after eating, the two left again without saying anything.
“Stop whining you idiot!” Vista said, though he also seemed to be bothered! Hey he was confident that he was her favorite commander!
“What’s with those faces?” Ace asked in confusion, he just woke up from an impromptu nap in the middle of eating his food, he looked at every commander in the table who were looking absolutely devastated. He also noticed the empty chairs that Izou and Ann were occupying but he chose to ignore that for now.
The other commanders were in deep thoughts, and Ace was thinking that something bad happened when he fell asleep, he was getting worried.
“Ace? Who do you think is Ann’s favorite brother?” Jiru asked, now everyone’s attention went to Ace, their youngest commander gave them a snort, a judging look that says how stupid that question is.
“Of course it’s me!” Ace said in a matter of fact tone, the other commanders paused, well they can’t argue with that.
“After you?” Blenheim asked further, Ace seemed to be thinking of his answer.
“She likes all of you in different ways, safe to say there’s no favorite after me! You guys are all equal HAHA!” Ace said proudly, the commanders groaned and they gave their youngest a judging look.
“Where is she anyways?” Ace asked when it’s been 10 minutes and he still hasn’t seen his sister, did she run off to somewhere? Or is Kali trying to murder her again? Geez his sister is such an idiot for picking a fight with Rakuyo’s weapon.
“She’s with Izou! They’ve been together for the whole day, Ace! WHAT IF IZOU IS ACTUALLY HER FAVORITE BROTHER NOW?!” Thatch said dramatically, both of his hands in the air and if they didn’t knew that Thatch is always like this, they would have thought that he was actually drunk.
“Izou is patient with her you know? I wouldn’t be shocked if that’s the case” Ace said casually and taking the last spoonful of rice from his plate and he drank from his cup, completely unfazed by the look of terror from the other commanders.
Ace has that annoying grin and he took off, probably going to Izou’s room to check on what they’re doing, leaving the rest of the commanders completely dumbfounded, after a moment of silence, they got into an argument on who is Ann’s favorite, the other pirates left in the galley could only face palm, their commanders sure is childish sometimes.
Meanwhile Ann and Izou are completely unaware of the commotion at the galley, Ann was sitting in on top of the commander’s bed while Izou was busy rummaging through his box full of a variation of cloths.
“I prefer silk cloth, would that be okay for you?” Izou asked while showing her a silky cloth that’s colored blue along with some flower patterns.
“This one suits the color of your eyes” The commander added, he did notice how her eyes has the shade of blue, so the commander used that as a basis.
“You know I have full faith in your fashion sense, right?” Ann muttered and the 16th division commander smiled while he ruffled her hair.
After finally picking a cloth, Izou was now busy noting her measurements, they were talking about the most random things until they heard a knock on the door and afterwards, Ace was already peeking inside.
“Yow!” Ace said with a grin, Ann smiled and she waved at her brother, Izou let the other half of the twins inside his room and he continued with his work. Now with Ace sitting besides Ann on Izou’s bed.
“So this is what you guys were up to” Ace said followed by a hum and a chuckle, he thought they were having an overtime practice at the 16th division.
“Izou has a hobby of tailoring clothes! He said he will make me one like his!” Ann said excitedly while pointing at the kimono the Wano native was wearing, Ace looked confused but seeing how happy both of them were, he chose to stay quiet and just watch them do their thing.
Ace kinda gets why the other commanders were threatened with Izou’s closeness to his sister, and he can’t even blame the 16th division commander because he knows damn well what she needs, when to annoy and tease her without actually pissing her off, and they get along so well especially with how patient Izou is whenever she’s having trouble in trying things, Ace wouldn’t even be surprised if Ann chose to join the 16th division.
Izou talked about how it would probably take him 3 to 4 days before he could finish her kimono, Ann looked so happy and excited. The fire logia could only smile as he ruffled her hair.
“Izou, how dare you steal my sister from me!” Ace said dramatically along with holding his chest, acting like he was hurt physically, both Ann and Izou only rolled their eyes at his antics.
But before Ann could even say anything, a series of complaints from Izou’s door followed.
“No fair! You’re unfair Izou!” – Curiel
“You’re spending too much time with her!” – Blenheim
“Swords are cooler than guns!” – Vista
Though Ann snorts and said to Vista that even if swords are cool, she can’t use them anyways so what’s the point? Vista let out an indignant squawk which the others chose to ignore.
“The 12th division, Ann! The 12th division!” – Haruta
“Just tell me I’m your favorite brother after Ace!” – Thatch
Thatch’s words led the commanders by the door into another round of arguing, they are currently blocking the hallway, good thing that their rooms weren’t connected to one of the main hallways or else they would surely be causing a commotion.
Their voices seemed to strike a nerve as Izou finally stood up from his place, leaving the cloth on top of the table, the twins grinned as they watched their sharpshooter walked towards the noisy commanders, when Izou was in front of them, giving each and every other commander a stink eye, the 16th division commander slammed the door right in front of their faces.
Ann and Ace cackled as they high fived each other, Izou went back to his seat and he continued what he was doing, he would also indulge the twins in their talks along with sharing some embarrassing stories related to the other commanders which is why their youngests didn’t want to leave his room until it was already late in the evening.
Yep the other commanders were very much right about not letting their youngest spend a lot of time with Izou, the 16th division commander is a menace in his own ways!
Bonus: Ann choosing her division!
“Pops! Pops! Pops! P—” Ann wasn’t able to finish her series of calling Whitebeard when she suddenly bumped into her brother’s back.
“Yah! Ace!” Ann huffed in annoyance, while Ace chuckled as he faced his sister that was already fuming, steam coming out of her ears.
“What? You’re a logia yourself!” Ace reasoned, feigning ignorance like he didn’t just purposely not turn himself into fire so she couldn’t pass by him.
Before their little bickering could escalate into a full blown argument, Whitebeard already called his youngest daughter, Ann grinned and she stuck her tongue out to annoy her brother, Ace snorts as he watched her run to their father, she was getting stealthy in a way with how she managed to dodge all the busy pirates by the deck.
“What’s gotten you so excited, my dear?” Whitebeard asked when Ann was standing in front of him, a wide grin on her face and she looked immensely proud of something.
“I’ve chose a division!” She said excitedly, Whitebeard looked proud as he smiled, leaning from his massive chair so he could ruffle her hair fondly.
Hearing her words, the pirates stopped on whatever tasks they were doing, Namur and Rakuyo who were on deck ordered someone to call the rest of the commanders, meanwhile Ace was already jogging on his way to where his sister is.
Whispers and murmurs were heard throughout the deck, everyone was anticipating her answer, after a few moments the other commanders were stumbling through the main door to the deck, Atmos and Blamenco were fighting to get out of the door first while Haruta jumped over their back and he went straight on a running spree to where the other commanders were panting and catching their breaths.
When all of the commanders were beside Whitebeard’s chair, Ann was standing right in front of them, a huge grin on her face, everyone was anticipating her decision, with her choice their money was at stake.
“So who’s the unlucky commander to take you under his wing?” Whitebeard said jokingly, earning himself a chorus of laughter from the pirates on the deck.
“She’s choosing my division” Vista said proudly, the commanders who heard him could only snort.
“The shipwrights divisions are completely off limits!” Blamenco chimed while Blenheim nods in agreement, Ann glared at them but they were completely unfazed.
“She does have potential to join my division” Namur reasoned, and the 8th division agreed, they wouldn’t mind welcoming their first ever devil fruit user on their division as long as it’s her.
“The 12th division Ann! You’ll be my second in command!” Haruta shouted, his hands in the air in a very exaggerated manner, Ann just stuck her tongue out to annoy him.
“Have her in my division and you guys won’t have to worry about water getting cut off while you’re taking a bath” Fossa chirped and they did hear some of the crew members encouraging Ann to join the 15th division.
“Izou! Why are you so relaxed?!” Thatch basically screamed, poor commanders by his side, while Izou was just fanning himself, completely ignoring the way the chef was staring daggers towards his direction.
“My sons, turn around!” Whitebeard said, the commanders gave their father a curious look, the mirth in his eyes says it all, he’s all in for the chaos as well.
“Pops?!” They shouted in unison, Whitebeard gestured his commanders to turn around, which they did followed along with a groan, Ann grinned when Whitebeard told her to tackle whoever she chose to be her commander.
“Tackle?! Not even a hug?!” Haruta whined, frustration evident in his voice, Whitebeard surely is being an enabler with her violent tendencies.
“What if she can’t tackle the one she chose?” Jozu asked while staring at Whitebeard, technically he has a point, there’s a low chance that she could even tackle at least half of the commanders.
“That’s for her to figure out” Whitebeard said in amusement, clearly enjoying how his children were making a big deal out of it. Even Ann looked so smug at how tense the commanders are.
The commanders are now waiting anxiously, the rest of the pirates on the deck along with their captain were looking forward to her decision, Ann looked at each and every one of the commander, a sheepish smile on her face, and before anyone could say anything, she run straight to her twin, tackling Ace to the ground and since the 2nd division commander wasn’t expecting it at all, he got thrown off to the side of the ship along with his laughing lunatic of a sibling.
“THE 2ND DIVISION?!!!” The commanders shouted in unison, clearly dumbfounded by her choice, Ace was still processing the situation, not about her choosing his division, but him actually getting thrown off by her! Ace tried to hide his smile, she was adapting well to their rowdy family of misfits.
“So I’m the unlucky commander? Huh?” Ace said fondly as he sat upright, leaning onto the side of the ship with Ann still laughing by his side, she was clearly enjoying making fun of the commanders, specifically Thatch, Haruta and Rakuyo who are making a big deal out of it.
“I can still help with your division if you guys need something! Oh and Jiru please don’t ban me from that book haven!” Ann said, also sitting besides Ace and she grinned at the commanders. Jiru just shrugged at her words, making her pout like a child.
“Uh? But can we ask? Why did you choose the 2nd division specifically? I’m sure it’s not just because of Ace, right?” Kingdew asked, already accepting his loss, though the groans of the rest of the pirates on the ship could be heard along with the passing of berries.
“Because this idiot keeps on ranting about how annoying his paperwork is!” Ann reasoned, while glaring at Ace who gave her a sheepish smile, he slung his arm over her shoulder and he grinned at the rest of the commanders.
“Come to think of it, I do think you would fit in our division quite well, right?!” Ace said proudly, followed by the cheers coming from the members of the 2nd division.
“Damn, so only Deuce won the bets?” Haruta muttered, clearly dissatisfied with the results while reading the papers where they recorded the bets.
“That idiot is hella rich! Where is he?!” Saber groaned and some of the former Spade pirates were already on the hunt for their former first mate.
“Who has the most bets?” Blamenco asked curiously and he took the papers from Haruta.
“Izou with 324, followed by Marco with 289, then Thatch with 244” Haruta muttered and he turned to face the rest of the crew, the look on his face telling like they just stole his favorite cameko.
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN I ONLY GOT 48?!!!” He was clearly fuming in annoyance and the rest of the people on the deck, took that as a sign to continue on their tasks, whistling away to save themselves from the wrath of the 12th division commander.
“That’s way better than what I got!” Rakuyo said hysterically while holding his tally sheet that only got 7 votes, the least amongst the commanders.
“I’m even shocked that someone actually voted for you” Vista mumbled and he took the papers from Rakuyo, according to Vista’s reasoning, Rakuyo’s weapon is constantly trying to kill Ann, so without a doubt she’s staying away from his division as far as possible.
Amidst the chaos, Ann was watching her crewmates fondly, they may be idiots but they’re definitely some very endearing idiots.
“So? You’re helping me with my paper works?” Ace said out of the blue, an impish grin on his face and his twin could only chuckle.
“Paper works and making sure you won’t do anything stupid that will cause poor Marco anymore unnecessary headaches” Ann said and her words made Ace laugh, unbeknownst them, Whitebeard along with the commanders were already looking at them fondly.
Maybe putting her on the 2nd division wasn’t a bad idea after all.
Notes:
So that's it for the commanders centric chapters! Oh and btw I've also read it on a fic here on AO3 about Jiru being a teacher and it was so cute so credits to the rightful owner of that idea💕
