How to Identify a Cat Boy’s Evil Twin

Summary:

“A laser pointer? What am I supposed to do with this?”

Notes:

I originally came up with this idea as a possible ending for my other “Copycat” fic, “Double Trouble,” but I decided it was a bit too cracky to use in that fic, so here it is as a standalone instead.

Work Text:

Ladybug frowned, watching as the two Chats Noirs exchanged baton blows. She would be hard-pressed to tell them apart if they were standing still, much less when they were circling each other in the heat of battle.

“I think I’m going to need some help with this one,” she said to herself. Throwing her yo-yo in the air, she called out, “Lucky Charm!”

Magical ladybugs swarmed above her head, and she frowned at the red-and-black object that dropped into her hand when they dispersed. “A laser pointer? What am I supposed to do with this?”

Ladybug turned it over in her hands, then pressed the activation button and waved it around experimentally for a few seconds. When she turned her attention back to the fight, she found to her shock that both Chats were staring transfixed at the spot where the laser pointer’s beam had disappeared from when she let go of the button. Pressing the button back down, she continued waving the laser pointer around the workshop, struggling not to laugh as the two Chats nearly tripped over each other chasing the little red dot around the room.

Then one of them froze as a glowing purple butterfly mask appeared over his face, and he turned to face Ladybug, baton raised to strike. Before he could, Ladybug’s yo-yo shot out and hooked around his right leg, dragging him across the floor to her feet as the string retracted.

“I’ll take that, thank you very much!” she declared, plucking the newspaper clipping from Copycat’s pocket and tearing it in half.

Ladybug unhooked her yo-yo from around Copycat’s leg and opened it. “No more evildoing for you, little akuma. Time to de-evilize!”

She then swung the yo-yo toward the akuma like a lasso, trapping it inside, and pulled it back to her hand. “Gotcha!”

She opened the yo-yo once more and waved at the pure white butterfly as it fluttered away. “Bye-bye, little butterfly.”

Tossing the laser pointer in the air, she called out, “Miraculous Ladybug!”

As the magical ladybugs shot out from the laser pointer and set about putting the city back to rights, Ladybug jogged over to Chat and held out her fist. “Pound it!”

Hawk Moth stared up at the window in disbelief.

“She tricked me into revealing which one was Copycat,” he muttered. After a moment, he shook his fist at the window and shouted, “She tricked me! Curse you, Ladybug!
