Summary:

“How did you meet?”

Myka thought back, “In Organic Chemistry. Next question.”

Pete then thought, “Did you date?”
Myka shook her head, “Not officially.”

Pete then gasped, “Friends with Benefits?”
Myka blushed, “Technically yes, but.. it was a bit more. We never formally dated but we were fairly exclusive at the time.”

OR

Myka runs into a "ex" while looking for a artifact, forcing HG to finally address her feelings for Myka.

Notes:

I suck at summaries, but if you clicked in thank you and hopefully you like this fic that has been rolling around in my brain for days.

Based on S.3E2 ‘Trials’. This doesn’t follow the timeline. This is assuming Myka never left, The HG never used the Minoan Trident, Wisconsin happened in the earlier seasons and HG decided to come back to the Warehouse. Borrowed Callie from Grey’s Anatomy. B&W Endgame.
I own nothing just borrowing the characters!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Claudia smiled as Myka walked into the dining room, after having spent a week on vacation with visiting her family and spending time with her sisterTracey in Colorado, “Oh Myka, thank goddess! Leena and I were being outnumbered by team sausage fest.”

Pete, Artie, and Jinx groaned, “Oh, that’s disgusting”

HG scoffed while Claudia explained, “What? You all eat crap for breakfast. It’s nice to have someone who’s a healthy eater back in the group.”

HG huffed, “Just because I enjoy good breakfast sausage or bacon with my meal, shouldn’t lump me in with these Neanderthals.”

Pete and Jinx bemoaned, “Hey!”

HG smiled placatingly but ignored their cries of protest. HG then turned back to Myka, “It is lovely to have you back darling. How was you trip?”

Myka smiled tensely, “It was good. It was nice to spend some time with family.”

Artie then cleared his throat, “Could we just try five minutes ON, please?! Yes?”

Myka, Jinx, Claudia, and HG all gave a silent nod and turned their attention to Artie, while Pete took a large bite of his donut.

Artie pulled out the file, “Um, Adam Ashby. Airline pilot who forgot how to fly his plane yesterday while several thousand feet over Seattle. Luckily his first officer stepped in. Now it could’ve been just a neurological event, but I don’t think it was transitory ischemic attack.”

Pete then mumbled, “Whoa, whoa. Arte gonna ie or ee gonna ive? Cause mm-mmm.”

All heads turned in confusion and Pete just sighed and looked at Myka. Myka nodded, “He wants to know if we can go to Seattle by train, because planes are scary for him now.”

HG and Claudia looked at Myka with a hint of surprise. Claudia laughed, “Thank frack you’re back, you’re the only one that can speak Pete.”

Myka nodded, “it was a vacation, I was recovered, never cured”

Artie interjected, “You’re gonna take a plane. You’re gonna be perfectly safe. You two go pack, You two come with me, and you to the warehouse.”

Claudia pointed between Jinx, herself, and HG.

Artie sighed, “Claudia and Jinx with me, HG to the warehouse. Leena’s already there doing inventory go help her.”

HG gave a mock salute and stood.

Myka went upstairs to pack while Pete and Jinx grabbed a few extra donuts.

****

Myka was throwing the last of her clothes into her suitcase when HG knocked on her open door.

Myka turned and smiled at HG, “Hey.”

HG smiled, “Hello darling. How was your trip truly?”

Myka sighed as she flipped the lid closed on her suitcase, “My sister is still a bit conceited, her husband is absent, my mom is still a bit oblivious, and my dad is recovering from the heart attack just fine, he’s still an ass.”

HG pulled Myka into a hug. When she heard that Myka was going home to Colorado to visit her father after he had a heart attack, she knew the agent was going because of obligation and that she was going to need all the support she could get.

HG wanted to be that for Myka, but didn’t want to cross a line she couldn’t come back from. Myka was too near and dear to her heart. She needed the curly haired brunette, she was her tether to this world. After Wisconsin HG couldn’t risk losing Myka.

Myka breathed in HG’s comforting scent and gave her a tight hug. Myka didn’t know how many more clues she could give the victorian woman to let her know she was interested in her. Interested in more than just being friends. Myka knew this world was still new to Helena, even 4 years in, but she seemed more comfortable and acclimated after the whole MacPherson debacle and the Wisconsin decision. Myka figured the longing looks, the hand holding, the hugs, the nights holding her as she battled another nightmare were enough of a sign. Maybe the woman was truly just not interested in more.

Myka pulled back gently from Helena and gave her a small smile, “I need to head out, if Pete and I are going to catch this flight. But once I’m back we’ll have a proper catch up.

HG nodded, “I’ll have the tea waiting.”

Myka smiled and turned to grab her suitcase from the bed.

HG smiled and gave Myka a small wave as she left.

***

Myka and Pete made their flight and went directly to the hospital to talk to Adam Ashby’s doctors.

The doctors spoke to Myka and Pete filling them in on Mr. Ashby’s condition, “We’ve never seen a case quite like this. Two days ago, this man was an experienced pilot with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering.”

Myka looked over his medical chart, “The chart says he’s gotten worse since he came in.”

The doctor nodded almost shocked a federal agent was able to read and understand the patient’s chart, “Yeah, yesterday he thought he was in college. Today he’s five years old. We think it’s some sort of accelerated Alzheimers.”

Pete looked at the man sadly, “And no one else he’s come in contact with has been affected.”

The doctor shook her head, “No. And physically he’s fine, but his mind, his memory is just — “

Myka sighed, “He’s slipping away.”

Myka and Pete finished up with the doctor and walked into the hall to discuss matters away from Adam.

Before Myka or Pete could say anything someone approached Myka, “Myka freaking Bering.”

Myka turned and smiled, “Callie!?”

Pete looked between the two women in confusion. Myka walked to Callie and wrapped her in a tight hug.

Callie and Myka embraced for a few moments past friendly. Pete cleared his throat and Myka pulled back taking Callie’s hand.

“Callie, Pete. Pete, Dr. Callie Torres. Callie was my.. study buddy, when I was doing med school at U Penn. Callie this is Pete, my partner.”

Callie and Pete shook hands and gave the usual “Nice to meet you” greetings.

Callie squeezed Myka’s hand, “I can’t believe you’re in Seattle and didn’t tell me.”

Myka tilted her head, “I wasn’t sure I would be able to see you, I’m on a case.”

Callie’s interest peaked, “oh?”

Myka nodded and tilted her head towards Adam’s door, “We are investigating. Making sure this isn’t something that could affect others.”

Callie nodded, “Wow. And here I thought you just protected the president and wore badass suits and aviators.”

Myka smirked, “Been there, done that. While it was great, this.. this is where I’m meant to be.”

Callie smiled and tucked a stray curl behind her ear and gently caressed her cheek, “Good.”

Myka smiled but leant back and squeezed Callie’s hand once more before letting go, “We better go. We have a few interviews to conduct and need to report back.”

Callie nodded, “Well if you’re around for a few extra days or if you, both of you, want to grab some dinner or something let me know. My numbers the same.”

Myka nodded, “I—we, will.”

Myka then turned to Pete and ushered him down the hall towards the exit so they could talk in private about the case.

***

Myka was looking through the case files while Pete stared at Myka. Myka feeling Pete’s stare finally dropped the folder and looked at Pete, “What?”

Pete smirked, “So Callie huh?”

Myka nodded, “Yes she’s a doctor here. We were friends.”

Pete chuckled, “You two were sooo more than friends! The vibes I was getting almost made me blush.”

Myka sighed, “If I answer three questions will you drop it?”

Pete nodded and Myka sighed, “Fine.”

Pete rubbed his hands together, “How did you meet?”

Pete asked, “What happened?”

Myka sighed, “I realized I didn’t want to become a doctor. I didn’t want to become a surgeon. I was burned out. I was broke. I knew I needed something else. But Callie, Callie knew what she wanted with her life. She wanted to become a surgeon, an ortho surgeon, and by the looks of it she did. I never wanted to hold her back and she didn’t want me miserable. So we parted ways. We semi stayed in contact over the years, mostly major life updates.”

Myka then went quiet before sighing, “And that was four questions so you’ve hit your quota.”

Pete looked at Myka’s eyes and knew it was best to leave the conversation there.

***

Myka and Pete were grabbing a coffee when the doctor from earlier called them to let them know another case like Adam’s popped up in the hospital. This time affecting one of their doctors.

Myka and Pete headed back to the hospital. Myka and Pete talked with the now regressed surgeon but didn’t get much information.

They split up to cover more ground faster, Pete is going to see if either of the victims crossed paths and Myka calls back to the Warehouse to see what they can dig up about memory loss artifacts.

Myka farnsworth’s the Warehouse where both Leena and HG are searching. Leena is talking to Myka while HG is reviewing artifacts on the computer behind her.

Leena sadly says they haven’t found anything with these particular memory loss symptoms.

HG then leans over Leena’s shoulder and says, “That doesn’t mean it’s not out there.”

Myka smiles, “Well we’ll take whatever you can find.” HG goes back to the desk to keep researching but is listening to what Myka is saying.

Leena is about to ask Myka something when someone behind Myka catches her eye.

Myka turns her head and smirks, “Callie.”

Callie nods her head towards the screen, “Woah. That’s cool, super steampunk.”

Myka agrees, “Yeah it is.”

Callie smiles and waves towards Leena, “Hi I’m Callie.”

Leena smiles and says hi, while HG remains silent but listening.

Callie smiles and turns her attention to Myka, “I’m off in a few hours, want to do dinner? I know an amazing Thai place.”

Myka glances at the Farnsworth and places her hand over the mic and tilts the screen away from her and Callie. Leena and HG can hear some muffled words, but nothing clearly. After a moment or two Myka comes back onto the screen.

Leena is smirking and HG is fuming. Leena tilts her head to Myka, “So who’s Callie?”

Myka blushes, “Callie is a surgeon here and an old friend.”

Leena laughs, “We’ll call you if we find anything. Oh and Myka.. have a good dinner.”

Myka rolls her eyes but waves bye.

***

Leena closes the Farnsworth and watches as HG’s grip on her pen looks painfully tight. Leena sits next to HG and places her hand over HG’s, “You’re going to either hurt your hand or snap the pen.”

HG give a small smile and puts the pen down.

Leena returns the smile and gently tells HG, “You should tell her.”

HG looks confused for a moment before realizing Leena know’s all about her true feelings for Myka.

HG shakes her head, “I don’t… I can’t ruin the friendship I have with Myka. She’s too good for someone like me, I can’t risk losing her. That would be my downfall. I’ve just barely made it back into Myka’s good graces after the terrible mistake I made in Wisconsin.”

Leena looks into HG’s eyes, “HG you’re not a bad person. You’ve made bad choices which you have already paid for 10 times over. And in Wisconsin you made a choice that you thought was right for you. No one here and especially not Myka, blames you for trying to be happy and finding your place in this world. You deserve happiness and love just as much as Myka. Don’t let your fear keep you from something wonderful.”

Myka was telling Pete about Courtney Moore, as they left the hospital room of another victim Eric, when he seemed to forget who Myka was talking about. Myka was walking a step or two ahead, “She’s the reporter. I told you. God don’t you listen to anything that —. Pete?”

Pete fell against the wall and his eyes glazed over. “Pete, what’s happening?”

Myka ran to Pete and caught him before he could hit the ground. “Pete!?”

Pete smiled at Myka, “Whoa, man, you’re hot. Who are you?”

Somehow between Pete following the paper trail and meeting Myka back at the hospital he got whammied. Pete was now another victim and was regressing.

***

Myka ran a hand through her curls and tugged at the roots while she stood in the hallway waiting for the nurses to get Pete settled into a bed and a room.

Callie came over to Myka and pulled her into a hug, “Hey, I heard about what happened to your partner. Are you ok?”

Myka held onto Callie and closed her eyes, “I… I need to figure this out. I have to.”

Callie held Myka for the few minutes it took the nurses and orderlies to get the agent settled into his room.

Myka pulled back and wiped her eyes and took a deep breath before letting Callie go, “I don’t think dinner is going to work tonight..”

Callie nodded, “Go. Be with him. I’ll be here when you solve this.”

Myka nodded and went to Pete’s room.

***

Myka connected with Leena and HG and told them about what happened to Pete.

HG and Leena told Myka to be careful and to keep them posted.

HG barely stopped herself from buying a plane ticket to join Myka, but knew she would likely get in the way while she was getting up to speed… and by wanting to know more about this Callie person and her relationship with Myka.

***

Myka stormed into the news station and started questioning the reporter Courtney Moore, only to realize she had been whammied too.

Myka then spoke to the jailed suspect, Geoffrey, that this case seems to be surrounding, and realized that maybe it wasn’t the reporter but his lawyer. Knowing everything the reporter did was recorded Myka went back to the news station and had the producer show her the tape of Courtney speaking to Geoffrey’s lawyer.

Myka quickly zoned in on the tie clip and went to find Geoffery’s lawyer. After getting the clip of Walter Winchell Myka farnsworthed back to the Warehouse to see what they could find.

With something to go off of Leena and HG were quickly able to find more information.

While Leena showed pictures of Winchell Myka noticed his hands, or specifically his cufflinks.

“It’s the same as the tie clip. They’re a set.”

HG and Leena looked at each other before looking to Myka, “You think it’s a bifurcated artifact?”

Myka nodded, “If the tie clip pulls the memories out of people, then maybe the cufflinks put them back in. After all Winchell didn’t leave a trail of brain-dead interviewees. I need to find those cufflinks. And I bet you know where they are.”

HG then went to the screen, “I did some digging. There was a young cub reporter who worked at the New York Daily Mirror, in the 1930’s when Winchell was just starting there. A guy named Louis Thompson.”

Myka confused asked, “Guys how does that help me?”

Leena then smiled, “His granddaughter Sarah Bell and her son Eric live in Seattle.”

Myka immediately recognized the name and rushed back to the hospital to try and talk with them

***

Myka went back to the hospital where she last saw Eric and his mother Sarah. But they were gone. Eric apparently having had a miraculous recovery.

Myka immediately went to go track them down only to run into a scared Pete.

Pete didn’t like that Myka was going out to do something dangerous alone. Pete wanted to come with her.

Myka promised that she would be safe and she would come back. Callie saw the exchange and smiled at Pete.

“Hey, why don’t we go back to your room and I can tell you all about Myka in med school? Then when she gets back we can have dinner?”

Pete looked into Myka’s eyes seeing nothing but determination. Pete then nodded and let Callie lead him back to his room. Myka mouthed “Thank you” to Callie and ran to find Sarah and her son Eric.

Myka found them at home, packing bags getting ready to run.

Of course Sarah tried to get rid of Myka but when that didn’t work she went to the garbage disposal to get rid of the cufflinks. Thankfully Eric entered the house and spoke to his mom distracting her long enough for Myka to shoot the light switch deactivating the garbage disposal.

Eric took the cufflinks from his mom and gently handed them to Myka.

***

Myka raced back to the hospital to neutralize the artifacts and to give the victims their memories back.

When Myka gave Pete his memories back he smiled, “Myka”

Myka gave him a hug. Out of the corner of her eye she could see movement. Looking up she saw Callie standing in the doorway smiling.

Myka stood and helped Pete back to bed where he was staying overnight for observation before he gets discharged in the morning.

Pete got comfy in bed before pulling Myka closer, “Go. Give me the Farnsworth.”

Myka looked back to Callie who was talking to another doctor in the hallway. Myka slipped Pete the Farnsworth, “Are you sure? I can stay.”

Pete shook his head, “Go. Plus I’m gonna need you out of here if I’m going to work the Pete charm on the lovely nurses here. You give off scary agent and sister vibes to the ladies that are interested in the Pete-ster”

Myka laughed and shook her head, “I’ll see you in the morning.”

Pete then smiled and gave a flamboyant, “You go girl!”

Myka rolled her eyes before walking up to Callie and asking if Thai was still an option. Callie smiled and nodded wrapping her arm around Myka’s shoulders. Callie gave a wink to Pete and Myka gave a small wave.

Myka and Callie left while Pete settled in and called the Warehouse.

***

With Claudia, Jinx, Artie, Leena, and HG in the Warehouse they all huddled around when Artie’s Farnsworth went off knowing it was Pete and Myka.

When Pete’s face popped up on the screen everyone smiled. Pete told them that Myka found the cufflinks and stopped Sarah from putting them into a garbage disposal by shooting the light switch. Everyone’s mouths dropped.
Claudia exclaimed at how badass that was considering the size of the target, the distance Myka must have shot at, and the lack of collateral damage.

Jinx then looked behind Pete and asked, “Where’s Annie Oakley now?”

Pete smirked, “I sent her out with the good doctor.”

Claudia gasped, “What?! Who?!”

While everyone was interested in who Myka was seemingly out on a date with HG’s heart broke.

HG listened in wanting to know more about this elusive doctor.

Pete gave her name while Claudia researched, ‘for safety of course’.

“Apparently they went to med school together at Perelman School of Medicine at University of Pennsylvania. They were ‘study buddies’ with exclusive friends with benefits perks.”

Claudia pulled up Callie’s information and pictures, ‘Calliope ‘Callie’ Iphegenia Torres, M.D. Head of Orthopedic Surgery. 31 years old’

Claudia scrolled through her qualifications and her accolades, “Wow, she’s.. impressive.. and hot”

Pete nodded, “Yeah, Myka needs someone smart, loyal, and who appreciates her for her. They were scarily in sync with each other from what I could see. The good doctor makes Myka smile. Plus Myka needs to relax. You know how her family is. I could tell she was tense, so maybe Callie can help with that.” Pete smirked at the thought.

Claudia and Jinx scolded Pete, “Eww Pete that’s Myka you’re fantasizing about!!”

Pete shook his head and shivered, “Eww, you’re right.”

They spent a few more minutes chatting with Pete before disconnecting and bidding him a good night.

***

While Artie distracted himself with writing notes and paperwork, Jinx, Claudia, Leena, and HG went back to the B&B to shower and get ready for dinner.

Leena made a stew the night before and heated that while the others showered and got ready. Dinner was a simple affair with light conversation mostly from Jinx and Claudia, while HG smiled and mhmm’d at certain intervals.

Claudia looked to Leena to see what was wrong with HG but Leena gave nothing away. Jinx and Claudia helped clear the dishes before heading upstairs to Claudia’s room to watch a movie and give Leena and HG some space and privacy.

Leena placed a cup of tea in front of HG, “just because she’s having dinner with an old friend doesn’t mean anything is happening, or re-kindling.”

HG took a gentle sip and paused, “I have no claim on Myka. I should’t be feeling this way. Like Pete said, Myka deserves to be with someone like Dr. Torres.”

Leena placed her hand on HG’s shoulder, “Myka deserves someone that understands her, loves her for her, and someone she can be honest and her true self with. Also you don’t get to decide who Myka deserves, Myka does.”

HG sighed and nodded.

***

Myka and Callie had a great night. They caught up, laughed, and reminisced. Myka told Callie about her recent trip back home and how her dad was still not proud of her, how her mom didn’t know what to say to defend her, and how her sister was still a bit self involved but was trying to make an effort to really get to know Myka.

Callie told Myka about her divorce from George, the crush she had on Erica, and the steamy hot sex she had with a plastic surgeon Mark.

Callie kissed Myka and Myka kissed back, but it didn’t go farther than that. They both knew it wouldn’t be a good idea to go farther and that their hearts weren’t truly in it. They would always love and care for each other but they would never explore a true romantic relationship.

Callie let Myka stay with her at the hotel that night and she held Myka. In the darkness and comfort of her friends arms she told Callie about her feelings for Helena. How Helena was hot and cold, how they flirted but never took it to the next level, and how when Helena left to try a relationship with someone else and their kid it felt like Helena wanted to leave her.

Myka cried knowing that if things were different, maybe in a different lifetime, she could be happy with the doctor behind her, but in this lifetime she was in love with Helena Wells.

***

The next morning Callie took Myka to her hotel in the morning so she could grab her and Pete’s bags and load them into the car so they could head straight to the airport from the hospital.

When Pete saw them that morning they were holding hands, laughing, and walking in from the parking lot. They looked like the perfect couple. Myka stopped Callie and kissed her before letting go of her hand letting her walk into the hospital.

Callie entered the hospital and saw Pete standing at the entrance having already been discharged. Callie smiled at him and gave him a wave goodbye. Pete waved and walked over to Myka who had the SUV pulled up to the closest parking space.

Pete and Myka got into the car and drove to the airport in silence. Pete could see Myka’s mind going and decided to just let her have her thoughts in peace.

***

By the time they finished with delays, layovers, landings, and drove back to the B&B, both Myka and Pete were exhausted and in need of a hot shower. Claudia and Jinx were out on a mission and they assumed Leena and HG were still at the warehouse with Artie.

Myka took a shower first while Pete raided the fridge.

With most of the stew consumed by the team and the rest by Pete, Myka decided on a salad. Pete bounced up the stairs and went to take his shower and head to bed.

Myka was finishing up her salad when she got a message from Callie showing her the x-ray of an interesting case of hand vs. firework. Myka laughed at how giddy and excited Callie was at the prospect of surgery. The Ortho-Goddess scrubbing in to work her magic.

Myka had just finished washing up the dished when the door closed and HG walked in.

“Hey”

HG smiled back happy to see Myka, “Hello Myka. Welcome back.”

Myka thanked her and went to the electric kettle, “I was about to make a cup, did you want one?”

HG nodded, “I’d love one, thank you.”

HG sat at the table watching as Myka prepared their teas, making it just the way she liked it; HG could see the domesticity and familiarity in the actions Myka took.

Myka gently placed the cups down and passed one to Helena, “Here you go.”

HG smiled, “Thank you darling.” Helena didn’t know how to talk to Myka, she wanted to know about her time in Seattle about the mission, but she what she really wanted to know was about Myka’s time with that Dr. Torres.

Myka watched HG as her mind turned, “What’s going on Helena? I can see your mind turning.”

HG wanted to blurt out that she was jealous, that she wanted Myka to never have relations with another person besides her, she wanted to tell her she loved her… but she couldn’t, “I… I just have some thoughts on my mind, nothing to trouble you over.”

Myka sighed saddened that her friend wouldn’t tell her what was troubling her, but Myka knew not to push, “Well if you change your mind, you know I’m here for you right? You can tell me anything.”

HG nodded, “Of course darling.”

HG was going to ask about how Myka shot that lightswitch with such precision but Myka got a phone call.

Myka looked down and chuckled, “Sorry. That’s Callie, she’s probably calling to brag about her surgical prowess and to make sure I got back ok.”

HG nodded and stood from the table, “Answer. We’ll catch up later.”

Myka tilted her head but gave her a smile, “Ok.”

Myka answered the phone, “A phone call from the Ortho Goddess herself…. Oh god, like your ego needs to be inflated any more…” HG retreated upstairs to her room as she heard Myka laugh. As Helena sat on her bed she placed her tea on the bedside table no longer interested in drinking the beverage.

***

A week then two passed and Myka and HG never broached the topic of what happened in Seattle. Myka would get calls and texts from Callie showing her X-rays and talking about the gossip in the hospital.

Myka was happy to reconnect with her old friend and seemed to have a new lightness about her.

HG thought the sight was beautiful, although it pained her to see someone else making Myka so happy.

HG decided that if she was nothing else besides Myka’s friend she would be the best friend she could be to the brunette.

HG even started training with Myka and going on her runs with her.

If she was being honest with herself she started working out with Myka only after seeing her in her extremely form fitting running attire now that the weather was warming up.

They had just gotten back from a run and HG was breathing heavy against the kitchen table while Myka was grabbing them waters. Myka passed a water to HG before running upstairs to take a quick shower. While Myka was in the bathroom her phone started ringing.

HG called to up Myka, “Myka your mobile is ringing. It looks like Callie is FaceTiming you.”

Myka called back down, “You can answer it. I’ll be out in a minute!”

HG gulped but grabbed the phone and answered the call with a slightly terse “Hello.”

Callie’s head popped up and she smirked, “Well hello. I did call Myka’s phone right?”

HG nodded, “Yes, she’s just indisposed at the moment. She’ll be here in a moment.”

Callie hmm’d, “indisposed. Well aren’t you formal. I’m Callie by the way.”

HG tipped her head, “Helena.”

Callie’s eyes widened, “So you’re Helena. Good to put a face to the name.”

HG smiled at the idea of Myka talking about her to partner.

HG nodded, “It’s good to officially meet you, in a way, as well Dr. Torres.”

Callie waved her hand, “Nah, it’s Callie. Dr. Torres is too formal for friends.”

HG gave a small smile but went silent.

Callie then bit her lip, “Helena, is Myka in the room with you yet?”

HG shook her head, “No, she’s still upstairs. I can have her call you back once she’s done.”

Callie shook her head, “Ok good, cause I’m going to be blunt here and I would rather her not be in the room to overhear cause she’s going to be pissed and I’d like to prevent the ass kicking she would give me if she knew I talked to you about this.”

HG tilted her head in confusion, letting Callie continue. “You need to decide, now. Do you want Myka?”

HG gaped for a moment, “excuse me?”

Callie shook her head, “You need to decide if you want to be with Myka. I could tell the moment you answered the phone you’re in love with her too. Why don’t you tell her?”

HG was floored for a moment, “How?”

Callie laughed, “Oh please. ‘Hello’. You didn’t want to answer this call as soon as you saw it was me. Not to mention you went all soft at the idea that Myka was talking about you.”

HG was surprised at how observant Callie was over her actions. Callie continued, “Myka is amazing, and had her heart actually been in becoming a doctor she would be giving the best doctors in the world a run for their accolades, and I would be asking her to marry me. But it didn’t work out that way. She’s where she’s happy and is doing what she loves; and you Helena, have an opportunity that others would kill to have. You have the opportunity to be with her, to love her, but you’re throwing it away because you’re scared.”

HG’s jaw dropped in the truth behind Callie’s words but also in finding out Myka and Callie apparently weren’t together romantically. Before she could say anything further she heard Myka coming down the stairs.

Myka appeared next to HG smiling, sporting new clothes and hair still wet from her shower,, “hey Cal, were you nice?”

Callie scoffed, “I’m always nice Bering.”

HG passed the phone to Myka and bid Callie a good evening. Myka looked from Callie to Helena, back to Callie. Myka mouthed “What did you say to her?” to Callie. Callie shrugged.

Myka sighed and said, “I hate you.”

Callie laughed and blew her a kiss, “Love ya too!”

HG went to the library to think and Myka took her FaceTime with Callie outside onto the back deck.

****

HG was sitting with a book staring at the pages but not really reading when Myka gently sat down next to her.

HG turned to see who sat next to her as she didn’t even realize someone had joined her in the library.

“Myka”

Myka nudged HG with her shoulder, “I’m sorry if Callie said something to upset you. She sometimes lacks a filter.”

HG shook her head, “No she was lovely.”

Myka lifted a brow, “You sure cause you’ve been in here a while, didn’t notice I was standing at the door for almost 15 minutes watching you, and you’re reading Hemingway.”

HG looked down at the book and closed it putting it on the table. Myka laughed at Helena’s look of annoyance at the book.

Myka took HG’s hand, “Helena, what is going on? Ever since Pete and I came back from Seattle you’ve been aloof with me. Did I do something to upset you?”

HG quickly shook her head, “No! No of course not Myka. I apologize if I’ve been distant, it truly is no fault of yours.”

Myka turned Helena’s head so she would look at her, “Helena, please tell me what is bothering you. I hate feeling this void between us.”

HG took a deep breath to speak but she couldn’t say anything, for the first time ever it felt like words were failing her.

Myka continued to look into Helena’s eyes and could see the war ranging behind those dark eyes, but without Helena voicing anything she had no clue what was ailing the victorian.

Myka gave Helena a few more moments of silence before she sighed and removed her hand from Helena’s and moved to get up, “I umm.. I’m gonna go read upstairs for a bit. If you want to talk you know where I am.”

Myka stood and barely took a half step before HG was standing and pulling her arm. Myka tumbled with the pull on her arm into Helena’s embrace.

Not wanting words to get in the way Helena wrapped her free arm around Myka’s back to both hold her close and to steady her. Helena could see and feel Myka gasp as Helena’s grip around her tightened.

Helena looked into Myka’s eyes and could see the hesitation but also the hope. With the utmost caution Helena leant forward and placed a kiss on Myka’s lips.

It was barely more than lips pressed together but to Helena is was as good as any pashing she’s ever had.

Helena was moments away from pulling back embarrassed as Myka didn’t seem to respond to the kiss, but just as she was about to pull back, Myka recaptured her lips running her fingers across Helena’s cheek, down her jaw, and to the base of her neck.

Myka used her other hand to cup Helena’s jaw and pulled her deeper into the kiss. As soon as Myka ran her tongue along Helena’s lower lip Helena’s knees went weak.

Myka quickly wrapped an arm around Helena to steady her and nipped at her bottom lip with her teeth before pulling back from the kiss to look into Helena’s eyes.

Helena took a deep breath and licked her lips before looking up and meeting Myka’s arousal darkened green eyes.

Myka smiled and placed one more kiss to Helena’s swollen parted lips. “Not that this isn’t exactly how I want to spend my evening, but we should probably talk.”

Helena nodded, “Yes. Yes, we should. I umm.. I need you to go sit over there on the chair though.”

Myka lifted a brow but took a few steps away and sat in the chair while Helena remained standing, “And why pray tell am I sitting over here?”

Helena gently took a step backwards and sat on the couch, “Because darling if you remain close to me I can’t guarantee I’ll be using my mouth for talking, and we need to properly clear the air and talk.”

Myka crossed her legs in a hopefully subtle way and took a deep breath, “Do you want to start or shall I?”

Helena tilted her head allowing Myka to go first. Myka looked Helena in the eyes, “I’ve been drawn to you since we met at your house in London, but I truly fell for you after you saved Claudia in California. I wanted nothing more than to be around you all the time. You proved you weren’t the villain we thought you were. Your brilliance and strength is astounding. You make me smile, and laugh, and you challenge me in ways no one has ever challenged me. But then you left. You picked Nate.. you picked normal. I couldn’t give you normal. So I vowed to just being your friend, even though every fiber of my being wanted more. And even though you came back and said you made a mistake you pushed me away, we were never the same. I figured the mistake was leaving the warehouse…not me.”

Myka realized a tear had escaped so she quickly wiped it away and dropped her eyes.

Helena clenched her hands and moved to sit on the coffee table that was between the two of them. Helena took Myka’s hands and held them, “I’ve never made a bigger mistake in my life. Leaving the warehouse, leaving you.. I can never apologize enough. I pulled away because I didn’t want to be the cause of your pain anymore. I didn’t think I deserved you. You, Myka, are everything my heart desires.”

Myka squeezed Helena’s hand and kissed her palm. Myka smirked and stood pulling Helena with her. “I think we’ve talked enough.”

Helena’s breath hitched but she nodded and followed as Myka led her from the library up the stairs to her bedroom.

***

Helena fell back against the pillows breathing heavy staring up at the ceiling. Myka laid next to her and placed a final kiss to her neck, “You ok?”

Helena nodded and smiled, “Perfect, I’m perfect.”

Before Myka could shift back to lay down on the bed Helena’s face went sour. Myka tilted her head and leant back up to look at Helena again, “Helena? What’s wrong?”

Helena shook her head, “Nothing darling, but remind me to send Callie a strongly worded letter tomorrow.”

Myka lifted a brow in confusion, “Callie? What? Why?”

Helena turned to Myka and kissed her, “I need to thank her for giving me the shove I needed, but I also need to threaten her with bodily harm if she ever thinks about you in a sexual or romantic way ever again, because you Myka Bering are solely Mine.”

Myka laughed but smirked, “I’ll be sure to remind you in the morning. But right now, I have more work to do.”

Helena lifted a brow, “And what work is that darling?”

Myka’s eyes turned dark as they roamed Helena’s naked body, “Well you tell people I’m yours with words, I on the other hand like to use action to make my claim known.” Myka then leant forward and sucked on Helena neck ensuring a hickey was left behind.

Helena moaned out Myka’s name.

***

“Did you hear that?” Claudia asked Leena.

Leena nodded, “I think Helena has finally told Myka her feelings.”

Claudia smiled but then scrunched her face, “Oh.. oh gross.”

They both heard another moan and quickly decided it was best to leave the B&B, and make sure the others took a good long while before coming home.
