Day 17: Brain Fog/Spaced Out

Work Text:

Over the past… well… Mike doesn't actually know at this point. But over the past however long they've been working on this new album, Mike has come to notice that Billie has been acting a little… off.

And he doesn't look okay. Especially not as he seems to keep spacing out in the middle of writing.

Which has really got Mike concerned for his friend's wellbeing. Even more so considering Billie has really been pushing himself a bit too hard lately in order to get this new album completed.

“Billie, you okay?” He asks, making his way over to where Billie is sat on the sofa, a pen in one hand and a battered Moleskine in the other.

Except, while Billie is holding both a pen and a notebook, he's not currently writing anything in it. Instead, he's just staring off into space.

It looks very much as though Billie has spaced out again.

Or, at least he had done so, before Mike rests a hand on his shoulder. Which seems to cause Billie break out of whatever trance he was in, and for him to jump slightly, and look up at him.

“You okay, Bills?” Mike repeats.

Billie sighs, nodding as he sets his notebook and pen down on the table next to the sofa. “I'm fine.” He says.  “Just… tired, I guess.”

Yeah, that's what Mike had figured, because Billie does look tired. But at the same time, Mike doesn't think that Billie is as fine as he says he is. Not when he has been working himself so hard lately, and very much overworking himself.

“Come on.” Mike says, helping Billie up off the sofa. With surprisingly very little protests. “I think you need to take a break. You've been working yourself too hard, man. You need some rest.”

Billie turns to look up at him, and he looks as though he's about to protest, to pull himself out of Mike's hold. But as Billie tries to move away, he stumbles, nearly falling over if it weren't for Mike's hold on him.

“Yeah, okay.” Billie sighs. “I don't…”

He doesn't end up finishing what he was going to say, but Mike can guess exactly what he was going to say. That he's not feeling well right now.

“Come on.” Mike says, maneuvering Billie around so one of his arms is around his shoulders. “I'll take you upstairs to bed so you can get some sleep.”

Billie just nods, leaning into Mike, and allowing him to lead him upstairs to the bedroom in the air bnb they're staying at while working on this album.

“Now… you just get some rest.” Mike says, once he's gotten Billie settled in bed. “You look like you really need it. You've been working too damn hard lately. You need to take a break.”

Billie nods, rolling onto his side and wrapping the blankets around himself. “Yeah, okay.” He says. “Whatever you say.”

Mike nods. “Good.” He says. “I'll be downstairs if you need me, and Tré will likely be back from the store soon.”

Honestly, as he watches Billie actually trying to get some rest, Mike finds himself rather surprised that Billie is actually doing as he says without protests. He was very much expecting at least some amount of protest. But Billie had gone willingly.

Well, he can't say that he's not glad about Billie actually doing something without protest for once. But still….

Billie must be really exhausted and not be feeling too well right now….

Yeah.... In that case, he'll have to talk with Tré when he gets back from the store, he thinks. The both of them will definitely have to keep an eye on Billie, and make sure it's nothing more than him just having worked himself a little too hard lately while they've been working on this new album….
