Work Text:

Both teams had one score. It was the last round of the match. The map? Lazy Lagoon, Jack's least favorite map. Why was it Jack’s least favorite map? Simple, long sightlines, little cover and the worst fact about the map was that it was extremely vertical, a roof camper's wet dream. This is going to suck… He thought to himself as the bell rang.

“Wow, that sniper is annoying.” I mutter to myself while clutching my head, with a new hole inside it. Would have been really nice if my team's snipers actually did anything instead of dying to the blue team.

I pull out a nice and refreshing can of penguin coke and start drinking to restore my health. Though at least this team isn’t a complete cluster fuck like it usually is. That rigid medic is very good at her job. And is also very beautiful too.

I ignore the intrusive thought and finish my cola. I step out of the cave that I hid behind, ready to fight the blue scum. Hopefully I don’t get headshotted again.

I spot my first target, a blue trowel guy that is standing still. Probably a new guy. Easy picking. I start cooking a grenade and throw a little bit too early. The nade hits his head and knocks him out cold. I pull out my pistol and start blasting. The grenade explodes, sends him into a wall and he dies.

I start searching for my next target. Hmm, how about I go and visit that sniper that shot me. I walk to a geyser and use it to jump on to the ledge the annoying sniper stood on. I land and look around for the sniper, but he is nowhere to be found. Instead there is someone else, someone a lot more dangerous. I find an epouch trowel guy with nitro charges, that is about to throw one of those charges.

With no time to dodge I turn to try and block the explosive bricks with my shield. The first one sticks to the shield, then the second one does the same. I retaliate with my pistol, but the trowel guy is smart and builds a wall. He then immediately detonates the explosives.

I go flying back to the red side of the map and hit a wall with my back. The pain is unbearable, it's as if a thousand knives of all sizes and shapes got stabbed into my back and twisted. I scream my heart out, until I can scream no more. And I close my eyes, consciousness slowly fading.

There is no pain no more, only black. No matter how many times I’m here I can never get used to the void. It’s always so terrifying. The silence, the blackness, the feeling that you may never live again and that this will be all that you will ever experience for eternity. It’s scary. I hope the respawn tim- AHH!

I feel as if I am violently getting pricked by needles all over my body and insides. I open my eyes, both from the pain and the feeling of energy going through me. And I see her. The angel that saved me, getting lit up by the sun behind her head, almost like a halo. She is ungodly beautiful and all I can do is stare in awe.

“Wakey, wakey sleepy head!” Her voice is angelic. It’s like honey to my ears. I want- no I need to hear more of her voice.

She stims me and I get up, ready to protect her at all costs. She quickly heals me to full health and starts running to the next hurt person. I realize that I didn’t even thank her.

“W-wait!” I shout. She turns around with a questioning hum. “Th-thanks. F-for saving m-me.” I see a soft smile peeking out of the edges of her mask.

“No problem!” She flashes a thumbs up and runs away.

God she is beautiful.

For the rest of the round I only saw her in my peripheral vision. We won and I got a decent amount of credits and even a ticket. But I don’t really care about that at the moment. There is something important that I must do. I look at the red rigid medic with red hair, and take a deep breath. I approach her.

“Hey, can I talk to you? Privately.” I ask her.

“Of course!” She says enthusiastically.

We start walking to the least populated area of the cafeteria. “I never got your name. Can you tell me?” I ask while walking.

“My name is Ana. You?”

“Jack.”

“That’s a nice name.” She says sweetly.

“Yours is nicer, honestly.” She huffs and looks away.

We reach the tables near the LSF closet and sit down.

“Sooo, what did you want to talk about?”

“Well, uhhh…” Shit, I didn’t think far enough ahead. “I, uh, wanted to, uh, thank you for saving me that one time, yeah.”

“Didn’t you already do that?” Fuck.

“Uhhhh…” Thank god I have a helmet on or she would have noticed that I look like a ripe tomato.

She starts laughing. “S-sorry, sorry.” She quickly calms down, but she still giggles from time to time. “Can I ask you a question?”

“Y-yeah…” I say meekly.

“Is this meant to be a date or something?”

“W-what?!” I get caught completely off guard by that.

“Is this a date?” She repeats her question.

“I-I, uh…”

“You can say it, I won’t judge.” She says softly.

“Umm… Uh… Y-yes…” I look away from embarrassment. I am so dead.

She chuckles a bit. “Well, let me tell you…” I look back at her. “Your date was successful.”

I look at her in disbelief and shock. “R-really?”

“Yeah! While admittedly we haven't known each other for very long, you seem like a very kind and caring individual. Which is why I love you. It is rare to find someone like you nowadays.” She leans on to me. “And you’re strong, which I also like a lot.”

I hug her. “In-in that case. I l-love you, Ana.”

“I love you too, Jack.” She nuzzled into me.
