Chapter 1: Vlog #5: Arriving in Kanto
Summary:
Arriving in Tokyo somehow is more chaotic
Probably because Atsumu seems to make himself an easy target for Hinata’s shenanigans
Kuroo remains a little shit, and Kenma adores him either way, you’d never be able to change his mind.Akaashi feels the increasingly large hole that is somehow Bokuto sized, but ends up forgetting due to Atsumu’s lack of self awareness and pure and utter shame.
Notes:
It has almost been 2 years since I last wrote a chapter 😭 SORRY I LOVE THIS SERIES TOO
i've had severe writing block, uni and moving once a year takes a lot outta meeeeeeeeeee
but I recently rewatched haikyuu training camp arc (lmaooooo) and decided to get back into writing (the same plan is in place, Omi is still TERRFIED about day 16)IDK about regular uploads, uni is demanding, but I'll try my best

[Vlog #5: Arriving in Kanto]
With the drive to Fukushima almost coming to an end, Atsumu turned on the camera and as it turned on, it fell. “Atsumu!” Hinata yelled but he managed to save it from tumbling further and apologised.
“You gotta let me drive my friend, everyone here is gonna think I’m some passenger princess.” Atsumu huffed annoyingly, but Hinata stuck his tongue out and smiled.
“You are.”
Atsumu disconnected his phone and added his own instead. And lucky he did, as a call from Baby❤️ came in and before Hinata could answer it, Atsumu took the phone and smiled.
“I apologise for the intrusion, your lovely boyfriend has decided to piss me off and it is illegal for one to be on their phone and drive so therefore you have me!”
Hinata rolled his eyes, but Atsumu blew a loving kiss. “The attitude on this one…” Atsumu joked and Kageyama just listened.
“Is he good?” Taken a bit aback by the question, Atsumu turned to Hinata and then back to the road.
”Yeah, he’s doing better. We’re just arriving in Fukushima, so I’ll change over driving to Tokyo. You two can talk in just a bit, probably when we stop for food. Ooh, what should we have, we’ve been arguing about it for hours.”
Kageyama answered whatever Hinata wanted and Atsumu groaned and hung up.
“He is my boyfriend.” The wing spiker reminded and Atsumu pouted, but dozed off as the next rest stop, then now dubbed ‘Passenger Princess’ was to drive to Tokyo. The drive wasn’t long, and they were an hour behind schedule but it meant Kenma had an hour extra for sleep, or to get things done for their arrival.
Approaching the rest stop, Atsumu got a call.
Neko-chan🐈⬛
“OMG YOU SAVED KENMA-SAN AS NEKO-CHAN?!”
Atsumu realised he was entirely F-U-C-K-E-D.
Answering the call, Atsumu smiled. "You're running late."
"We know, we've just stopped to change over drivers and Hinata wants to grab a bite to eat since it's still another 3 hours. Anyways, 8pm, 9pm, is there a difference?" Atsumu genuinely asked, which gained an audible gasp from the voice that was always ever-present when it came to Kozume Kenma.
"There is, 8pm means Kenma is willing to socialise. 9pm is I'm going to shut myself in my room unless I need to be around my boyfriend."
The voice was of Kuroo Tetsurou, Kenma's boyfriend and a master in the 'Gospel of Kenma'. Not many were or even tried.
"Alright, alright you nocturnal cat, I'll try and do the drive as fast as I can within the legal speed limit." Atsumu packed Hinata into the car and they were off.
Driving was nice, especially since Atsumu was a passenger princess. "Omi-san doesn't let you drive?" Hinata curiously asked, "Dude you are a passenger princess. You spent all this time getting your license, for what?"
"For when Omi-kun can't drive me around. It is rare, but not uncommon. Like now." Glaring at the wing spiker, Atsumu took a different route compared to the map which Hinata was shocked by, but noticed their driving time was cut down by half an hour. "It's 6pm on a Tuesday Shou, I'm not taking the main roads. Omi-kun gave me... made me memorise this route." Atsumu revealed. "He may not care much about this trip, but he does care if I get stuck in traffic. I do his head in if we ever are."
Hinata smiled at the way he talked about his lovely wing spiker boyfriend. "Wait he doesn't care about this trip?"
"Well, loosely. It's better to say, he just said have fun and messages me occasionally. I love him, he loves me, but seriously we spend every waking hour together. Omi needs to recharge. It's why I annoy Bokkun so much when Omi-kun retreats to his room and doesn't come out." Hinata looked at him like he held all of the answers, but Atsumu's situation was inherently different to his own.
"Oh yeah, I've gotta deal with you two and Kuroo-san and Kenma-san don't I? I'm gonna stick to Akaasan like glue, couples I swear." Atsumu laughed and looked to his teammate.
"No, we're in this together. I'm your partner in this, and Omi-kun will probably want a break anyways since he's waiting for the day Komori lands in Tokyo and they have the Itachiyama reunion. Tsukasa-san still confirms once a month making sure Omi goes, it's like they have zero faith in my ability to get him to go to functions."
"You don't."
Atsumu went silent at the laughter and apologies from Hinata split out, but it was easy to tease Atsumu right now.
A montage of the highways and the setting sun was shown, and the time on the video read 20:32, which was half an hour after they were to arrive.
"KENMA-SAN!!" Kuroo watched in delight and amusement as Hinata collided into his best friend, and Atsumu just walked like a normal, functional, human, who didn't have a need to run into anyone. "Hi Shou. How's the camera?"
"Oh it's amazing. Thanks for the mic attachment, it'd be annoying to have to mic everyone up." Kenma then looked over to Atsumu who smiled.
"Miya."
"Seriously, Ken-chan I thought we were friends."
Now, a fact that no one, and I mean, no singular person alive knew apart from a certain group, was revealed.
"Look, I may be apart of the 'Pretty Setters' group chat, but that's purely because Akaashi gave my number to Suga-san who somehow thought adding me would be fun."
Utter silence.
"A WHAT GROUP CHAT?!"
[END]
----
@miya.atsumu: so, as the setter representative of the Monster Generation of Volleyball idiots, I made the 'Pretty Setters', and I mean, every setter I could think of that's even related to the Monsters is in it.
Sugawara, Kageyama, Oikawa (ew), Akaashi, Tsukasa, AND OMG SEMI AND SHIRABU THEY'RE IN IT TOO IT'S MADNESS
And Kenma quite literally gave up leaving we all keep adding him
@hinatashou: OK HOW TF DID I NOT KNOW THIS
@oikawatooru: WOW EW TSUMU AND I EVEN GAVE U MY SHRIMP PASTA RECIPE
@sakusa: idfk how this was hidden, Atsumu we go on each others phones
@miya.atsumu: I GO ON URS U NEVER TOUCH MINE 😭😭😭😭
@official_kuroo: so... we skirting over how Kenma is in a gc
@KODZUKEN_twt: first, I knew about Neko-chan, second, I am not in that gc voluntarily, I am there against my will, and also it Akaashi a space to answer questions about Bokuto. Ngl, he's got that owl down to a T
@aka.keiji: YOU GUYS ARE GETTING ME IN SM TROUBLE WITH BOKUTO-SAN IT ISN'T EVEN FUNNY ANYMORE
@official_kuroo: u seriously didn't tell him ANYTHING?????? ALSO U KNOW ABOUT NEKO-CHAN

@shugomeian: what did you three do now
@bokuowls: I'm genuinely upset rn
@aka.keiji: KOZUME KENMA
@sakusa: we have dms for this, are we forgetting Twitter is a public platform?
@aka.keiji: I feel like I need to clarify this right now, I was a nanosecond away from calling my lovely and amazing fiancee but SOMEONE TOSSED MY PHONE
@KODZUKEN_twt: WAIT HEPROPOSED AKAASHI
@official_kuroo: ...
Akaashi had to leave Twitter since he accidentally revealed what had happened while he and Bokuto were together on their weekend getaway turned week stay by the sea, but he was pouting and so upset by the fact Akaashi had kept his involvement to the whole road trip. But, something changed, when Akaashi said something.
"I didn't keep this secret from you, but it wasn't something I was given permission to tell. Hinata wanted to tell the world in his own way, and just like we told the world about us in our own way, despite all of our friends already knowing about us, means we should give him the same respect."
It changed how Bokuto viewed the Road Trip vlogs and despite both of them wanting to spend time together, they decided to watch it. "Though, I should mention, I'm an officiant now. So, if I start getting asked to do weddings, don't be shocked."
@miya.atsumu: No but seriously, I have no shame in admitting this... @aka.keiji you are the sole reason we even had a wedding
@aka.keiji: you guys are the reason I have high blood pressure
Hinata and Kageyama watched as Twitter spiralled and Ushijima even messaging him about Semi and Shirabu, which shocked the entire Adlers GC. "They really are gonna freak about Sakusa-san aren't they?" Hinata asked.
"I even had to take a second, that entire thing was wild." Kageyama admitted and Hinata laughed as Bokuto sent a 'I AM NOT MAD AT KEIJI, HE EXPLAINED A LOT' text, which soothed their souls.
Chapter 2: Interlude #2: The Consequences of #Vlog 5...
Summary:
Vlog #5 has consequences not even the duo forsaw
Chapter Text
There were 24 hours between episodes of the vlog, which Meian decided to utilise by calling a meeting with the Black Jackals. Why? Well, with Akaashi's revelation about being proposed to-- rather engaged because who knew, that was exactly Meian's reasoning. Tomas and Inunaki ordered a lot of takeout, but this wasn't a 'tell us everything' type of meeting, but he needed to make sure his team were good.
So that is how Bokuto (pouting), Hinata (rather chill), Atsumu (fully in a war with Oikawa) and Sakusa ended up at the doors of Black Jackal's gym. As the doors opened, everyone looked at them-- Oliver Barnes, Shion Inunaki, Shugo Meian. "You know, I am not really that shocked it's our youngest that are causing the most chaos."
"Controlled chaos." Atsumu hopped in and joined them on the floor. "Everything ok?" Sakusa followed and Hinata and Bokuto were last, taking their seats beside Meian and Oliver respectively.
"Everything is fine," Meian smiled, "but since this vlog of yours, we..." he took a breath, "just wanted to know if you guys are all good." Looking primarily at Hinata and Atsumu, they looked at each other and smiled.
"Wait you aren't gonna ask about Bokkun?" Atsumu asked curiously, and while Inunaki was a bit shocked, Meian wasn't.
"He asked for marriage and engagement advice, considering I've got a wife and a kid..."
"Right. Yeah, I forgot, we ain't the normal ones." Hinata chuckled into his drink and Atsumu whacked his head. "OW! OMI-SAN!"
"Seriously...?" Sakusa seemed... exasperated. Why? It was anyone's guess, but Inunaki figured something happened that had him like this.
"So, how is Kageyama?" Inunaki asked, and Hinata blinked a few times, figured they figured it out and smiled.
"I have half a mind to send him to a therapist." He was smiling, but in truth, they were considering it. Kageyama's anxiety wasn't great, and with the off-season beginning, it was best to see if they could get him in now. "He ok?" Bokuto asked.
"He's fine, just anxious about everything. Getting married, the distance, everything really... it's best if he sees one. Honestly even if it's to talk. How's your fiancée?"
Bokuto just looked at them all. Holding his head in his hands, everyone wondered what was wrong when he started kicking his legs in tiny at the fact that Akaashi was his fiancée. "I can't believe he's my fiancée, am I dreaming?"
"Want me to smack you?" Atsumu offered and laughter filled the hall.
As the night went on, the 3 cases of 6 pack beers turning into 0, with the only one not drinking being Miya Atsumu, everyone talked about the road trip, Inunaki saying he wished he knew about Kageyama so he could 'sort him ouuuut' which Hinata laughed at, Meian congratulating them all for having such successful relationships at such ages, and then going at Inunaki for being single.
It was getting late, and Atsumu shot messages to Tomas' wife, Meian's wife, Akaashi and Kageyama to come and pick them up since they were drunk. Sakusa stuck to 2 beers, so he was a bit buzzed and called an uber for Oliver and Inunaki to take them to the dorms. Oliver couldn't drive, but he could handle a drunk Inunaki. Watching as everyone's partners came, Atsumu was filled with a sort of... warmth.
- Meian - married with a kid
- Tomas - married
- Hinata - married
- Bokuto - engaged
- Oliver - dating(?)
- Inunaki - single (lol)
"Omi-kun," Atsumu walked with him around the grounds since he didn't want to be driven buzzed, "life's done us well hasn't it?" Turning to him, the spiker was a bit stunned when Atsumu got like this. "It has, why'd you ask?" Seeing him smile, Sakusa just shook his head and took his hands and held them.
"Omi-kun?" But what he wanted was warmth, rather than anything. And being from Hyogo, Atsumu knew cold and wasn't fazed, and so naturally, he had a higher body temperature than Sakusa.
Even their body functions were compatible.
[Vlog #5: Arriving in Kanto] surpasses [Vlog #2: Senpai's Will Always Be There] with most number of views in 24 hours
Vlog #5 has a two minute feature of famous gamer and owner of Bouncing Ball Corp, KODZUKEN, or known to the Jackals and friends, as Kozume Kenma. The famous gamer's relation to wing spiker Hinata Shouyou has always been known, however the closeness of the two was never fully explained. However, preceding the episode, a rather... 'chaotic' twitter exchange occurred, which solidified that the gamer was present during what seems to alluding to the most important part of the 4 part vlog series.
Hinata Shouyou has revealed he is married, and judging by the timeline of events, it is heavily suggested that the wedding takes place in Tokyo surrounded by KODZUKEN, his long-time boyfriend Kuroo Tetsurou, Akaashi Keiji - Black Jackal's own Bokuto Koutarou's partner, and of course, Miya Atsumu, fellow partner-in-crime for this journey.
We have also been told that Sakusa Kiyoomi was in Tokyo during this, however, Miya Atsumu has revealed he planned to leave him be, whether or not that is true is to be seen as the pair are always stuck together, on and off season, pre and post relationship.
In another turn of events, Akaashi Keiji and Bokuto Koutarou have gotten engaged, as the manga writer referred to the spiker as his fiancée while trying to justify his reason for silence - eluding to the fact he played a major role in the upcoming events. It seems wedding season is in the air for the Jackals, with Shugo Meian announcing his marriage right before joining the Jackal's and Tomas joining after his wedding to his wife.
Are Sakusa and Atsumu next to tie the knot?
Stay with us as we update you on the most drama the volleyball world has had in a few years.
Waking to the smell of breakfast, Akaashi turned and noticed an empty bed. Heading down, he was greeted to Kenma on the couch and Kuroo cooking breakfast, and noticed Kenma and Bokuto were making a wedding board. "He was pissed, but it quickly went away when Bo said he could help plan it." Akaashi took a bite from a plate and smiled. Seeing his Twitter blow up, Akaashi smiled at how domesticated they were. "You two gonna marry?"
"We're already considered civil partners that give us the same rights as married ones. I asked since everyone seems to be getting married." Kuroo put away the items he used, "he said if it was what I wanted he'd do it, but honestly it didn't make a difference. Maybe once everyone is done with weddings, we'll sneak off and have a honeymoon, who knows."
Akaashi chuckled at that and smiled.
Sitting on the couch, Kenma and Bokuto were looking through an article about the average wedding prices. Slotting his head in between, Akaashi kissed Bokuto's cheek and smiled, "Morning."
"KEIJI!!" Kenma recoiled as Bokuto practically climbed the couch and Kuroo chuckled as Kenma found his way into his embrace and leaned against his chest.
"I'm happy for them," Kenma looked up and was startled by the peck against his lips, "what was that for?"
Kuroo didn't need a reason, and just went back to cleaning up, listening as Akaashi had to slowly break the news they could not have the ceremony in the Jackal's gym, and yes, he could have anyone he wanted in his wedding party. Hearing a ping on his phone, Akaashi took it out and saw a message. "Why's Omi messaging you?" Bokuto asked and Akaashi opened it and read its content.
sakusa kiyoomi (aka omi):
atsumu said you have to officiate when we get married
good luck
"Ah, shit. Why did I agree to anything in Tokyo?" Bokuto just held him as he leaned on him and Kuroo fully burst out laughing and Kenma looked to him with a knowing smirk.
@miya.atsumu: lol I forgot to post a photo so here
"It's KODZUKEN's world and we're just living in it"
[Hinata, Atsumu and Kenma in front of Bouncing Ball Corp]
@official_kuroo: as it should be
Chapter 3: Vlog #6: Welcome to KODZUKEN's World, We're Just Living in it
Summary:
Just a chapter appreciating Kenma, his world, and a preview into Akaashi's patience.
Also, Atsumu disappears...?

SORRY
WE ARE CHANGING IT
WHY?
KANTO REGION HAS THREE NEW ADDITIONS
It was as is, Hinata, Atsumu, Sakusa and [Mystery Husband] (which friends now know as Kageyama), but it then had the next clips.
Kuroo, stumbling as he exited the lift in Bouncing Ball Corp Building, carrying coffee and wearing his KODZUKEN shirt.
Kenma, who apparently didn't have any clips of him in an embarrassing situation, but instead, was a cool clip of him taking a photo with Hinata and Atsumu in front of the offices, Kuroo recording and Akaashi taking the photo.
And Akaashi.
PATIENCE OF A SAINT
AKAASHI KEIJI
It was a clip of him looking so worn down while driving, as Kenma drank his coffee, Hinata, Atsumu and Kuroo were seen to be yelling or screaming or something.
Welcome Kozume Kenma, Kuroo Tetsurou and Akaashi Keiji to the Main Cast of The Road Trip of Our Lives: KANTO REGION
- ep begins -
Kuroo and Kenma were alone in the kitchen, as the camera was on. "Kitten, why'd you turn on the camera? Chibi-chan and Tsumu are sleeping." Kuroo asked as he cooked breakfast and Kenma was seated, going through the video to be released that day. "Shou said I could turn it on whenever, plus, we probably will handle it more compared to them today. Just cause we are familiar with the camera and vlogging." He justified and Kuroo didn't argue, purely curious, and brewed the perfect coffee for Kenma as he continued editing.
"Shall I call **** and chew him out?" Kenma asked, the name being bleeped out and subtitles revealing it was [Mystery Husband].
"Nah, didn't chibi say they were doing better?" Kuroo asked, "oh hi, good mornin'." Kuroo brightly smiled as Atsumu just waved his hand. "You good to be on camera, it's on."
"Yeah, coffee." Atsumu yawned, dawning--
"Woah, since when did the germaphobe Sakusa Kiyoomi let you wear his clothes?" Kuroo asked, as Atsumu looked to him, hair messy, wearing an Itachiyama jersey that definitely was small for the current stature of Sakusa Kiyoomi. But the look Atsumu gave wasn't sheepish, nor was it embarrassment. "When I miss him." Hinata came down next and laid on the couch and groaned. "Seriously, how do people do it? Drive for hours."
Kenma continued editing despite the background noise. "Oooh, we should visit Kenma's company," Hinata suggested, "but shouldn't we meet with Akaashi-san and Omi-san?" The spiker then asked and Atsumu shrugged, looking to the Tokyo duo who looked wholely domesticated. It sickened Atsumu, further making him feel the distance between him and Sakusa, and Hinata envied it. "Kitten, whaddya think?"
"I have to grab the quarterly reports anyways, and go over the sponsorship contracts." Kenma yawned and Hinata noticed how he seemed... content.
Kenma never planned on making his gaming career become this company that sponsored volleyball players, but it did. He first sponsored Hinata's trip to Brazil in second year, since he was making money and had nothing better to do with it. Then, when Hinata returned, his company had grown into an image larger than anyone anticipated, leading to Kenma sponsoring other talented players, sponsoring matches to promote Bouncing Ball Corp, creating one of the largest sponsors in the volleyball circuit in Japan. And with Kuroo's help, hopefully, soon, the future.
"I forget you're basically our boss. Paying us to wear your logo, and promote your company and games." Atsumu teased. "Neko-chan." Kenma's unbothered demeanour dissipated and Atsumu was hit with a pillow, and the entire flat erupted in laughter.
*
"OOOMMMIIIII-KKKUUUUUUNNNNNN!!!!" Kenma wholeheartedly had a heart attack at 8am meeting manga editor Akaashi Keiji and spiker for MSBY Sakusa Kiyoomi. Kuroo thought the mic would cut out and Hinata laughed as his best friend collided into the half-awake spiker who had wanted some coffee. Was it a hug? Atsumu thought so. Sakusa concluded it was a murder attempt.
"It's 8 in the damn morning why are you this loud?" Sakusa asked, his boyfriend hanging off of him with a wide smile.
"We're visiting Ken-chan's company. He doesn't like going there during the day, plus, DIDNJA MISS ME OMI?!" Akaashi rolled his eyes at the loudness and approached Hinata.
"Akaasan," he waved and Akaashi smiled, "you're gonna tag along?"
"Mmm, I took time off for this."
Kuroo and Kenma chuckled, knowing it was just a distraction for missing Bokuto and Hinata nodded. The camera pointed to Atsumu and Sakusa's rather muted conversation, but you could see them. Atsumu was explaining a lot, very expressive in his actions while Sakusa just listened. He looked disinterested if you didn't see his eyes. So filled with love and devotion, being strung along by his hyper boyfriend's every word. "He really does love Atsumu-kun." Kenma said before turning around to head to the car and unfortunately, Sakusa said he couldn't join right now, he had lunch with Tsukasa since they were finally in Tokyo, and shared a soft kiss before parting ways.
"You had your fill of Sakusa?" Kuroo teased and that comment subjected the new seating arrangements in the car.
"Kitten, seriously?!" Kenma sat at the front, sipping the iced coffee Akaashi so graciously bought, Kuroo, Hinata and Atsumu in the back. But, the pouting ended when music began playing, Kenma tuning out the sound, Kuroo, Atsumu and Hinata having waaaayyy too much fun, and Akaashi feeling the need to yell or clock out from this earth. It showed, since Kenma kept turning down the volume at unnoticeable increments and the fellow ex-setter thanked him.
As they arrived at Bouncing Ball Corp, Kuroo was tasked with the camera and Hinata and Atsumu exited and were stunned. "Woah..."
"I mean I've never seen it in person before," Hinata commented, "but wow Kenma you work here?"
"Yeah. I am a board member."
Akaashi offered to take a photo and there were three taken, and were let inside.
As Kenma got the passes sorted out, Atsumu and Hinata were engrossed in a very… odd topic - if you asked Akaashi. “You’d never be like Kenma, if you grew out your hair.” Hinata simply stated, and the setter seemed to take offence at that. “Plus, don’t you and Omi-san make it a thing where he dyes your hair? Imagine how he’d feel if you decided you’d never dye it again, and grow it out.” Hinata continued.
When it came to Sakusa Kiyoomi, Miya Atsumu did falter, but that was because he really didn’t care about his hair, and more about how his lovely boyfriend felt about it. “Honestly, long hair aside, I think he’d be fine if I went back to brown.” Atsumu admitted.
“Why did you two start talking about this?” Akaashi questioned, purely confused by everything.
“Cause…?” Hinata shrugged his shoulders and Kenma returned with passes for everyone and before they had any ideas–
“They open my office, and the bathrooms.”
In that time, Kuroo stopped by the cafeteria and grabbed coffees for everyone, and they began their journey up to Kenma’s office. In the elevator, Atsumu looked at his phone and saw messages from Sakusa complaining about breakfast and chuckled softly, before looking over to Hinata who was spamming his keyboard.
“Sho-kun…?” Atsumu curiously asked, and it even alerted Kenma who was startled by Hinata’s keyboard smash. Showing them a picture, Atsumu swooned and Kenma cooed. A picture of an orange and black cat sleeping in the street. “Keyboard smash the hell outta that photo, the fuck it’s so cute.”
Looking at his phone, Atsumu turned to Hinata who was cooing at the picture with Kenma and Akaashi. “Hey, you mind if I take off for the rest of the day?” Atsumu asked, and they all turned to the setter as the elevator stopped, and stared.
“Atsumu? Everything ok?” He nodded, his facial expressions and demeanour showing everything was ok, but why was he leaving them in the middle of the vlog.
“Don’t worry, I’ll vlog my end, there’s something I need to do.” Atsumu smiled and as they stepped out, Atsumu not wanting to miss the view, what no one expected was for Kuroo Tetsurou to be so caught off guard by the comment he stumbled and fell, spilling all of the coffees he bought.
“My lovely beautiful boyfriend everyone.” Kenma sighed, heading to his office to call for a janitor and Akaashi helped him up while Atsumu and Hinata were cackling off to the side. To make it worse, Kuroo was proudly wearing his KODZUKEN merch and when Kenma returned, carrying a simple black shirt, Kuroo pouted.
“And you’re supposed to be in a high position at the JVA, geez.” Kenma sighed, “Shoyo, please calm down.”
“I-I–” Breathless, Hinata - with the help of Akaashi - composed himself and Atsumu watched Hinata with endearing eyes and smiled.
To protect the privacy of Bouncing Ball Corp, the camera cut to Hinata pouting as he waved Atsumu off, and Akaashi tilting his head, wondering what he was doing. But the remainder of the day was a mashup of clips of Kenma indulging in Hinata’s every whim, Kuroo explaining how Kenma’s mind worked to the class (viewers) and Akaashi keeping everyone alive, fed, hydrated, so they could live to the next day.

Kageyama wondered what the next episode would entail. Hinata actually didn’t know what Atsumu was doing in his time away from the group, and he never told anyone.
Chapter 4: Vlog #7: Figuring Out
Summary:
Atsumu's alone time away from the main group of the Kanto portion of the vlog has yielded some unintended results. Alone time with Atsumu doesn't get much better than some introspection, your own boyfriend telling you there is something you yourself needs to figure out, and a talk with your best friend's boyfriend about life.
Aka:
Has Atsumu accidentally set things into motion? Or sped up the timeline...?
Chapter Text
Vlog #7’s release was coming up, and Atsumu hadn’t had anything notable to add before then, though it was odd considering that the episode was just gonna be him (as far as people knew).
Sakusa knew otherwise, but half of it, as Atsumu had revealed something mere hours before the next episode’s release.
"Sho doesn’t know, but it’s gonna include a bit where Tobio-chan and I talk." Atsumu dropped casually, cleaning out the umeboshi jars to be used as pots, and Sakusa, enjoying an Onigiri Miya umeboshi onigiri, just stared at him.
Atsumu also thought back to when editing this episode with the hired editor, and the phone call he had to make for it. Hinata was usually involved in the editing, but this episode, the Atsumu alone-time episode, was something he didn’t, rather couldn’t partake in. It didn’t include him, so it was at Atsumu’s discretion what was being shown in the episode.
"What do you want?"
Atsumu pouted, "can’t I call my fellow setter?"
"No, what do you want, Atsumu-san?"
Atsumu could only chuckle, hearing how annoyed Kageyama was, and smiled. "Remember that phone call we had?" Atsumu asked, causing Kageyama to flashback to the two-hour phone call between him and Atsumu during the road trip and freeze. "It got recorded, and I was callin’ ta ask ya how you wanna play this," Atsumu revealed.
It was interesting, to say the least, and Atsumu was prepared for the episode to cause everyone in the Jackals and beyond to go a bit wild.

Atsumu turned the camera on at Akaashi’s apartment, where Sakusa was back from brunch with Tsukasa and lounging about. Well, staring at his phone, lounging about, waiting for Atsumu’s call or text, but got none.
"Hey," Sakusa looked up and was a bit shocked. Atsumu was here with him, and he placed the camera down and smiled. "Everything good?"
“Yeah, sorta.”
Sakusa kept an eye on Atsumu as he sat down on the couch Sakusa lay on, reading a book, and lifted his legs so Atsumu could sit. As he sat, Atsumu felt Sakusa return his legs to their original position but this time on Atsumu’s lap. "Omi-kun, whaddya think about the road trip Sho and I are doin’?" Atsumu asked, curious as to his boyfriend’s response and thoughts. "I told Sho you have no qualms with it ‘n all, but I’m curious."
Sakusa stopped reading and looked down the couch to where Atsumu was playing with the loose fabric of his loungewear bottoms. "You want a full detailed account as to what I think?" Sakusa asked, grabbing his bookmark and placing his book on the coffee table.
Nodding and making an indescribable sound, Atsumu waited. "I think you’ve deluded yourself into thinking this was just for Hinata," Sakusa revealed, shocking Atsumu heavily. Looking at his boyfriend with an ‘excuse me’ look, Sakusa returned with a ‘lemme explain’ expression.
"I guess I noticed it towards the end of the season," Sakusa revealed, "you seemed a bit off. Do you love me? Yes, I don’t doubt that, but there seems to be something you either won’t admit or haven’t yet realised."
Atsumu blinked. Confused. "Don’t ask me what it is, I have no clue. And I didn’t think being around me would help you figure whatever is going on with you," seeing Atsumu relent and look away, almost guilty, Sakusa knew he hit the nail on the head, "like how Hinata needs this to relearn what it means to love, you need this to figure out what’s going on with you. Going away, seeing old and new friends, and detaching yourself from this reality of ours, is like detoxing. You realise things about yourself you can’t realise are there without being away from what’s keeping it hidden. Didn’t you say it yourself, those two idiots talked for hours about this road trip, and by the end of it, it all turned out for the better, right?"
Nodding, Atsumu wondered why Sakusa knew him better than he knew himself. “I’d not have been able to date you for this long if I couldn’t read you as well as I could,” Sakusa spoke, almost reading his mind. Feeling the couch shift, Atsumu lay on his chest, and Sakusa held him, wondering if he was ok.
"You do what you have to, and I’ll be waiting. Albeit, painfully." Atsumu chuckled, going weak at Sakusa stroking his hair and holding him so lovingly. It was beautiful, and mesmerising, how Sakusa Kiyoomi could be such a lovable human, but it was only towards Miya Atsumu.
"Omi, ‘member when the media found out we were datin’?" Atsumu randomly asked, tracing lines on Akaashi’s couch.
"Oh, when they all questioned how long it’d last because you and I are such different people? And you’re not my type?" Sakusa asked, wondering why he was even asking this now. Today was a day of questions it seemed.
"Yeah, and ouch." Atsumu laughed, smiling as they remained in each other’s arms. Sakusa sighed, smiling at the memory, because the him back then never knew how much he’d come to love Atsumu.
"I think it’s because of that fact that we’ve been able to last so long. Sometimes types aren’t a preference, but a pattern you should try and break away from." Sakusa mused, and Atsumu got up to grab a snack and Sakusa sat up properly on Akaashi’s couch and sighed. Seeing a message from Akaashi, Sakusa read it and snorted.
"Akaashi says that you can stay the night if you wanna." Atsumu shook his head and returned to the couches with snacks and placed them on the table. Going behind the couch, Sakusa tilted his head back, and Atsumu leaned his head forward, their eyes meeting and an indescribable tension lingered in the air.
"Love ta, but I’ve gotta reclaim my position. Akaashi beat me out in Mario Kart. He’s just tryna keep his spot." Sakusa chuckled and Atsumu pressed a kiss into his lips, a quick peck that signalled he was here, he was happy and safe and overjoyed, and an acknowledgement of the conversation they had. "And anyways, you gotta finish that book of yers," Atsumu teased, "or Tsukasa-senpai will spoil it jus’ ta piss ya off dearie."
Sakusa groaned, knowing his senpai’s inability to keep a shit-eating grin when pissing off Sakusa, just because he was an easy target. Atsumu knew Tsukasa never actually spoiled it, but Sakusa always fell for it because of how plausible they were . Honestly, he has his suspicions Akaashi helps out, considering he works as a manga editor and aspiring author … but oh well...
Atsumu left him to his vices, taking the camera with him to the guest room to sort out Sakusa’s clothes, as he wanted to do something normal he always did in the dorms. One of them was washing Sakusa and his clothes, just because Sakusa hated being in the laundry room (it was also the day Atsumu learnt about Sakusa’s fear of being in small spaces with crowds - potential crowds - of people).
So Atsumu offered to handle it and learnt the outside hitters' insane laundry requirements, which when searched wasn’t all insane.
So as Atsumu began the separation process of items, he hummed to himself when he paused. "Should I?"
Grabbing his phone, he noticed Hinata was sending messages about exploring Tokyo and Atsumu knew he should then.
Calling Sho’s BF
After two rings, the phone picked up.
"What?"
Atsumu snorted, "What? No hello, hi, is Sho ok?"
"He’s fine, considering I was forced onto a Facetime to witness his absolute downfall at arcade games with Kenma, and no, I’d rather not talk to you."
Atsumu snorted at the comment. "I wanna talk to you though, can’t I?"
"You have your own boyfriend, Atsumu-san. Do his head in–"
"Omi and I already talked," Atsumu revealed, "and now, I wanna talk to you," Silence filled the room before Atsumu couldn’t help but break out into a fit of chuckles.
"What is it? I’ve already gotten chastised by that group chat since Suga-san basically outed me for everything and Oikawa-san gave me a verbal lashing. I got an intervention I didn’t need."
Atsumu nodded. "But you did," Atsumu was slowly separating and turning items inside out, "the fact of the matter is that at the start, you did not respect Sho’s decision to do this trip. Now, yeah, but back then, you were angry. I get it, I really do, and I gave Sho a talking-to of a lifetime for springing this on you, but you two…" Atsumu sighed, "have too much love for one another, but also still don’t think actions through."
As the line went silent, Atsumu thought about him and Sakusa, his Omi-kun. "You and Sho have been together for a similar amount of time as me and Omi-kun, despite the fact we are a year older. Honestly, it makes no difference, but then again, our experiences of how we got together were vastly different. It makes sense why you reacted the way you did, but in the same breath I can also say that–"
"It wasn’t what Hinata needed. I didn’t want to hear him out, I know, and I’m a damn idiot for that. I’ll make it up to him forever and ever for making him so stressed and worried about us, but…"
Atsumu smiled, acutely aware of the camera on the nightstand that was facing downwards, Atsumu’s phone in between his lap so it didn’t show the contact photo on Atsumu’s phone. "I know. And I know you two have talked, and I know you want Sho to find what he’s looking for at the end of this, but honestly, I think he’s already found it. It’s less of what Sho is looking for and more of what you are now."
Yet again, the line went silent. Atsumu was done partitioning the clothes. "Me? How does this have to do with me?"
"Not just you, there’s a reason I offered to join Sho, there’s a reason Omi-kun didn’t object, and there’s a reason why you haven’t come running after Sho and joined, even now when you both are fine." Atsumu honestly spoke, not trying to offend or cause any sort of distress to the voice across the line, but it was something that needed to be said.
"Y-Yeah…"
Stuttering as he spoke was odd, and Atsumu knew that. "I guess, I… hey, Atsumu?"
"What’s up?"
“Do you think we’ll survive it? All the–”
"Lemme cut you off there Mr Goody-Two Shoes," Atsumu interjected, "because I don't know what you think would be worse than letting Sho go, not telling him how you felt before he went to Brazil, and then navigating a new relationship while being long distance. If you and Sho can manage that, hell I think you two will have a marriage. And also, relationships aren't perfect…"
Atsumu trailed off, thinking about his relationship with Sakusa, the ups and downs it had especially at the start, "you will f*** up. You will argue and complain and probably spend time away from each other to cool down. But as long as you know at the end of the day you love one another, you can make it through. And also, the bulls*** about not going to bed angry is insane. I've gone to bed angry at Omi-kun many times, but it's that separation that you kinda have to have that calmed me down that honestly the next morning, it'd be the most productive conversation we'd have about the argument. And I also get waffles after every argument - so like three times lol - but that's beside the point."
As Atsumu rambled, the voice across the line listened intently - what Atsumu was saying was valuable. Even if he did not want to admit it.
"You and Sho will be fine. You have to take this time–"
Atsumu went silent as the voice cut out, the sound all disappearing from the video. Atsumu froze, stood up holding his phone and the sound came back.
"You serious?"
“Yeah. I am.”
[What was said that has Atsumu reacting like that?]
[STAY TUNED FOR THE NEXT EPISODE]
[Our Wing Spiker will not be making an appearance in the next episode. He had come down with food poisoning and spent the day in bed. Atsumu returns to the group in the next episode]

Chapter Text
Kageyama had never been so scared of Hinata before. The way he darted those hazel brown eyes, like they were digging daggers to carve out the words he spoke of to Atsumu on that phone call.
Sighing, Kageyama pulled Hinata into an unexpected cuddle on the couch of the small Osaka apartment. As the atmosphere began calming down, the orange tint of the sunset filtering through the partially opened curtains, Hinata’s intensity to get information from Kageyama seemingly faded as the warmth of the Osaka sun gradually warmed their bodies.
No words needed to be said, as Kageyama raked his perfectly manicured hands through his dear husband’s grown out ginger hair, and Hinata felt his entire body melt into his arms, eyes fluttering closed as Hinata mumbled out, ‘I’ll find out’ before shifting to get comfortable in bed Kageyama’s arms.
The day ended, for the Kageyama-Hinata duo, with them cuddling on the couch, before Kageyama lifted his sleepy husband to their bedroom.
Osamu had been watching the road trip vlogs, after all, he was unfortunately roped into it (this is Atsumu we are talking about, he was going to drag Osamu in one way or another), but even if he wasn’t, Osamu was going to watch it.
After Atsumu rambled about how he was going on a month-long road trip across Japan, initially he thought Sakusa was the one joining him. Instead, Hinata took that space, shocking the grey-haired Miya to the point he asked Atsumu if everything was fine. Initially, Atsumu said they were, Sakusa wanted to spend time in Tokyo, and Atsumu stated that they spent all their time together anyways, time away was something that was needed. And, as Atsumu added, they’d be seeing each other in Tokyo.
But then, came that 2am phone call, that happened - actually right after Kageyama and Atsumu’s phone call in Tokyo. He hadn’t recorded it, it was 2am and all, but Osamu answered it.
And remembered it clearly. But seeing the events unfold like this, versus being a bystander in the moment, it felt odd. But, Osamu could see why Atsumu called at 2am - much to the chagrin of Suna.
“Samu,” Atsumu was currently in Osamu’s Osaka place, staring at the ceiling, “d’ya bake?”
“You’re the baker Tsumu,” Osamu reminded as he was going over business stuff in his living room, “why?”
“Cause I wanna try make a wedding cake–”
Osamu threw his pen at Atsumu, before shaking his head. “Aren’t you gonna have a ‘Sakusa family wedding’, considerin’ yer marryin’ rich?” Atsumu sighed and sat up, sinking to the floor beside his brother and leaning on his shoulder.
“It was suggested by Toya and Omi, and yes I’d want a big wedding, but not for that.” Atsumu revealed, “it’s cause there’s so many people willing to celebrate with us that I wanna have it. Cause its not jus’ a wedding between Omi ‘n I, but a celebration of everything. Seriously, if life didn’ work out like it did Samu, I may never be here, with Omi, you, e’ryone.”
Atsumu paused, looking to the humble apartment Osamu had, despite having a flourishing business, “we’re humble bees,” Atsumu chuckled, “fancy shit isn’t gonna make us happy. So if I end up havin’ a wedding at the Jackals gym, as long as it has everyone, I’ll be happy.”
Osamu chuckled, “fuck, I gotta do your bachelor party don’ I?”
Ah, Atsumu really did love his brother a lot.
Hearing the ringer for the apartment sound, Atsumu went to see who it was and opened the door rather enthusiastically. “Sunarin, Omi!” Osamu turned back as Suna yanked Atsumu’s ear and Sakusa bypassed their chaos and handed Osamu a matcha latte which he was grateful for.
“Oh yeah, speakin’ of which, did Tsumu tell ya what Kageyama said?” Sakusa looked to Osamu as the room went quiet.
“No, but I know.” Atsumu chuckled and Suna sighed, jumping on the couch and organising the mess that Osamu had made.
Over in another area of Osaka, Kenma, Kuroo and Akaashi just stared at Bokuto as he guessed what Kageyama said on the first try.
“Well, it’s obvious, isn’t it?” Bokuto asked.
Well, now thinking about it, yeah, it really is. “But still, the first try is impressive considering the setters group chat haven’t been able to guess it at all.” Kenma commented and Akaashi nodded in agreement with what Kenma was saying (and also dissing the incapabilities of the setters to be smart).
“Well, you know, you make a very valid point there Bo,” Kuroo mused, looking to Twitter as #WHATDIDHESAY_RTOL trended (no thanks to Oikawa Tooru).
“Anyways, shouldn’t we be preparing for the inevitable chaos that’d ensue tomorrow?” Kuroo asked, wondering why Kenma and akaashi looked so calm. Bokuto was just excited to see how his Akaashi played a part in this, but everyone else…
“Eh, I’mma finish editing my videos.” Kenma shrugged, and the Tokyo resident couple - Kuroo and Kenma - decided to head to the hotel they booked out for a few nights.
It wasn’t as though Akaashi and Bokuto didn’t want them there, but rather, Kenma and Kuroo knew time alone as couples was needed - even for a rather nonchalant couple like them.
“Cookies?” Akaashi asked, opening the cupboard allocated for Akaashi’s current interest in baking and Bokuto was already jumping to research how to make cookie dough ice cream - much to Akaashi’s pleasure.
“Hey ‘Kaashi, would you wanna do a bachelor party?” Bokuto asked as the manga editor dug up the ice cream machine from the depths of their cupboard, and the container from the freezer.
“You’re asking if I wanna wilfully subject myself to insanity. I love our friends, but I think maybe just a get-together would be a lot less insane. Plus– well… never mind. Give it a few days, and you’ll find out why I’d rather not have a bachelor party.”
Bokuto looked to Akaashi with an intensity that he hadn’t really seen off the court. Whispering in Akaashi’s ear, the former Fukurodani setter’s eyes widened and chuckled. “Yeah. That’s why.”
Bokuto shook his head. “They’re not normal.”
“Ya think?”
An unexpected friendship was the Sakusa-Hinata-Kageyama GC that existed when Hinata and Kageyama were convincing Sakusa to ask out Atsumu. It now existed as a way for Sakusa to plan shit without Atsumu finding out and Hinata shooting down everything because Sakusa was way too over the top.
Well, Sakusa has now gotten used to Atsumu’s more… humble lifestyle, but sometimes just needs to treat him to something insane just because.
Now?
Kageyama spammed laughing emoji's at Sakusa’s annoyance - visible in the texts - as Hinata basically threatened his entire existence, trying to figure out what his own husband said, and Sakusa was so not budging.
Atsumu found out about the group chat long ago, but never voiced his annoyance as yes, sometimes Sakusa did need to seek advice outside of his boyfriend, it was normal.
Like he totally does not have a group chat with all of Itachiyama just so Atsumu can accidentally arrange their trips to Tokyo to cross over with reunions… totally not.
One other group chat, that was now dubbed the [RTOL: EPILOGUE PLAN?] was previously named the [JACKALS PARENTs CHAT] cause it had: Meian, Inunaki, Tomas and Oliver.
Though, they just had links recently. “You guys want to throw Hinata and Kageyama a reception?”
“Well, yeah… it’s off season, and it’d be a shame if they never got one–” Inunaki began rambling but Foster sighed and smiled.
“I was wondering why you all were more active than usual. I’ll let the on-site staff know. I’ll have a talk with the owners and see if they’ll graciously lend funds for this, otherwise it will be out of pocket.”
“Oh, yeah, ‘bout that, so… this links in with the damn PR Manager, but Meian’s been sent the contract from the Round Table and we were thinking ‘bout using that money to pay for this. Our cuts, but that’s not the point. Did you find out what his problem is?” Oliver asked, and Foster sighed and shook his head.
“I’ve spoken with the HR Manager to request a meeting with him but it isn’t ‘till the end of the week. But go forward with the interview, the owners said that since we’ve been getting so much publicity, and with the issue with Nakajima, to just run everything through me first. And since you all have been very insistent about this interview show… well, I can’t really say no.”
Meian thanked Foster, and Inunaki suggested something else.
“Ok, so, I don’t wanna take away from the Tweedle-dee and Tweedledum's spotlight, but why don’t we take a page from their book? Record the process of planning this party?” Inunaki asked, genuinely serious about this, since it seemed fitting especially how said party came about.
“You already named the group chat RTOL: Epilogue for a reason,” Tomas chuckled and Meian liked the idea.
“Yeah, give them a taste of their own medicine,” Oliver snickered and Inunaki nodded furiously, agreeing with letting them be in suspense for once. “Though no bringing Bokuto into this, we’d be exposed immediately.”

Vlog #8: Hard Truths & Plane Tickets
PREVIOUSLY ON RTOL:KANTO REGION…
As Atsumu rambled, the voice across the line listened intently - what Atsumu was saying was valuable. Even if he did not want to admit it.
“You and Sho will be fine. You have to take this time–”
Atsumu went silent as the voice cut out, sound all disappearing from the video. Atsumu froze, stood up, holding his phone, and the sound came back.
“You serious?”
“Yeah. I am.”
Atsumu just stared at the line, looking at the phone like it was a video call, before opening his mouth. “You sure this is the best move?”
“Dude you literally were just saying how we’d make it, why–”
Atsumu winced but it wasn’t from pain, but almost a sense of frustration, “yeah, I know what I said goddammit. It’s not that I don’t doubt ya ass, it’s the… the mere fact of how Sho will react to be frank with ya. Shit like this is massive dude, and all…” Atsumu sighed, looking as pained as he felt saying this, “I don’t want him to not think about this logically. Yes, you two love each other, but, in this instance, fuck I feel horrible for sayin’ this, but… can love be enough for stuff like this?”
The line was silent, before a simple, “yeah, yeah, it can be,” was heard.
“Hey, look, I’mma sleep on this convo, thanks… for this, I guess.” Atsumu chuckled and looked at the time, and wondered if a teatime nap would also help him. Honestly, after finishing Sakusa’s laundry pile and the rather… insane conversation with Kageyama, Atsumu needed a drink.
With not Hinata, not Sakusa, and not Akaashi. Kenma wouldn’t agree - rather would spend time playing games, leaving one final option.
me:
Yo wanna get drinks later??
neko-chan’s bf:
Sure
Everyone else is baking and I cba for that
Atsumu stepped out, seeing that Sakusa was cooking dinner, and smiled. “Productive conversation?”
“Somethin’ like that,” Atsumu shrugged, “I’mma grab drinks with Kuroo-san later, and probably hightail it back to Kenma’s with him.” Sakusa hummed, turning around despite onions lying half-chopped.
“Just you two?” Atsumu nodded, noticing how Sakusa was giving him a look the setter could never place, but it wasn’t one of questioning or jealousy. “Text me when you leave and get back. And if you need any hangover remedies.”
[2 HOURS LATER]
“So, chibi-chan, Kenma and Akaashi are locked in playing Animal Crossing. So, what’s up? I know you didn’t drag me to a partially empty bar just to hang.” Kuroo teased, continuing to wear the KODZUKEN merch and sipping on a club soda since he was driving.
Atsumu fiddled with the straw in his drink and sighed. “Well, kinda. Sho can’t know what is goin’ on, Omi-kun isn’t really gonna be any help, Kenma is well… Kenma, and Akaashi needed some peace after today.” Kuroo didn’t disagree.
“Is there… such a thing as being in such a good place, that you feel like you’re tempting fate?” Atsumu genuinely asked, the camera’s light blinking as it faced inwards, capturing Atsumu and Kuroo’s facial expressions in the circular booth.
A bit stunned by the question, Kuroo hummed, thinking about it with a greater intensity than he anticipated. Honestly, he thought Atsumu was gonna ask for Hinata-Kageyama advice. “This… doesn’t have to do with chibi, does it?” Kuroo asked.
Laughing, almost bitterly, Atsumu rubbed his face, “nope,” popping his ‘p’, Atsumu honestly felt horrible right now, “for fuck sakes, why do I feel like this?”
“It’s something I felt, y’know,” Kuroo admitted, “having it all, felt wrong. Not because of anything I did, or Kenma did, but… life felt too good. Nothing was going wrong, nothing was… hard anymore. It felt like probing that bear would ruin everything. Honestly, back then, life felt like I was one Jenga piece from everything collapsing.” Kuroo admitted honestly. “I’ve been in love with Kenma for longer than we’ve been together. But we’ve been together for so long, people started asking about marriage, y’know?”
Atsumu sighed and nodded. “Couldn’t do it. Couldn’t even buy a ring.”
“You sure you wanna be admitting this on camera?” Atsumu chuckled.
Kuroo just sighed. “I never thought someone like me would get their ‘one’ y’know? Never felt like I was destined for an epic love, but I got it. And Kenma and I, we were… are… in a good spot, why complicate things with marriage? Engagements, planning, the whole shebang. Divorce rates are high enough as it is; why enter a marriage with a 50% chance of breaking up? Plus, what we have is as good and stable as a marriage, so why…”
Atsumu was curious as to where he was going with this. “That was everything I kept telling myself. But at the end of the day, it all boiled down to one thing. Fear. Fear of losing the life I’ve normalised for so long, fear of change being the potential reason for a breakup that may or may not happen. Why tempt fate, when we could keep everything as it is, and it is as good.”
It was the very same question that Atsumu was asking himself.
“Kenma sat me down one day, and asked if I was ok. I was fine, so he just ripped off the band-aid and asked if marriage was in the cards for us. Fuck I felt like… I was only thinking about me; I forgot to even ask what he wanted. The scariest part of it was admitting I didn’t know.” Kuroo looked like he was about to cry, “I didn’t know if I could marry the person I loved more than my entire life, who held my heart and soul. I felt so shitty, so horrible, and I wanna know what Kenma said? If we do or don’t, you’re stuck with me. It’s whether we’re bound together legally or just emotionally that makes all the difference. Honestly, for tax reasons, I’d drag you to the courthouse, but emotionally, what the hey, we’ve basically been married since we started dating. We’ve even got a damn joint account that’s as old as our relationship.”
“Seriously?” Atsumu asked.
“Yeah, we opened it because we kept doing conventions together and never closed it and just became… ours.” Kuroo chuckled.
Silence filled the space as Kuroo sighed, reminiscing about the past, about his own fears. “I asked Kenma if he wanted to get married. If we should try it out, he shrugged. Kenma is a creature of habit, doesn’t really like change, but welcomes it if he must. He said it’d be nice, but if I’m not ready for it, now or ever, then he said that’s also fine.”
Seeing how free Kuroo seemed, Atsumu wondering if he could feel that secure. “What you’re feeling is insecurity about the future. And you know what,” Kuroo asked, seeing how his junior needed advice about a situation he was in just mere months ago, “insecurities are normal,” Kuroo said to Atsumu, “and being in a good place and being scared for the future is also equally normal.”
Atsumu had a wonder as to where these insecurities of his were coming from, or perhaps they were always there and he just realised them. “You should talk to Sakusa about this. Now you can admit to yourself what’s been going on with you.”
Atsumu nodded, looking down at the now finished glass of beer and sighed shakily. “And also, this is Sakusa we are on about here, he’d probably wait until you can tell him what’s going on. The man has infinite patience with you, so just let the words fall, even if it feels incoherent; he’s probably the only one who could understand you best.”
Atsumu nodded, and Kuroo began the process of calling a cab to head back to Kenma’s.
*
The morning brought about a half-dead Atsumu, Kenma, Akaashi and Kuroo, who were all wondering why Hinata was cooking, and Sakusa messaging Atsumu, complaining about Tsukasa.
“You look like hell, what’s going on?” Hinata asked, curious as to Atsumu’s current state.
“Had a 3-hour-long call with Samu at 2 am with a guest appearance from Rin,” Atsumu used Kenma’s new coffee machine to make espresso shots and downed it. “anyways, what’s today’s plan?”
Hinata blinked. “You’re sleeping,” Akaashi and Kenma agreed, and Kuroo wondered if Atsumu would talk with Sakusa soon. “I’m doing some adventuring with Kuroo-san today. Kenma has to record, and Akaasan has that work call.”
Atsumu shrugged and went back to bed, and Kuroo and Hinata had breakfast and left swiftly, though, forgetting the camera, leaving Kenma and Akaashi to record, if anything.
The espresso shots worked too well, leaving Atsumu groggy, and Akaashi decided to call Sakusa around just to make sure someone took care of Atsumu if they were busy.
“Atsumu, we’ve talked about getting enough sleep,” Sakusa sighed, ready for Atsumu to use him as a body pillow, and the setter did, though he didn’t fall asleep. Kenma noticed that look, a scheming look, and cancelled the recording today because something definitely happened.
“How much is a ticket from Osaka to here?” Atsumu asked curiously, “Plane since the train takes too long. Plus, we probably won’t get a train reservation.” Sakusa, who was now cuddling Atsumu on the couch, and Kenma, who was just doing some work on his laptop at the table, stared at Atsumu. “Why?”
“How much?”
“Like max, ¥12,000. Why?” Kenma answered, making that trip himself in the past.
“¥12,000, 90 minutes max flight, well, if you must know, I would like ****** to say what he said to me over the phone to my face. That, and Sho’s probably missing him by now since even I’ve got Omi-kun here.”
Kenma asked Atsumu to backtrack, “What did he say?”
Atsumu reiterated the words that were said to him, and Sakusa froze, and Kenma’s mouth hung open. “Hold on a sec,” Kenma grabbed his phone, Akaashi came back, and the ringer was on loudspeaker.
“What’s going on?” Kenma seemed anxious when the phone line opened.
“Kenma-san–”
“DID YOU REALLY SAY WHAT YOU DID TO ATSUMU?!” Akaashi bent down to the cuddling couple and asked what made Kenma so… energetic. Sakusa whispered it in Akaashi’s ear, who went wide-eyed before looking to Atsumu for a confirmation nod.
“Yeah? Why? You gonna be cynical like Atsumu-san?”
Sakusa and Akaashi gave Atsumu a look, but Atsumu shrugged, but Kenma sighed, holding his face in his hands, “No. No, what I’m gonna do is book you a flight to Tokyo so I can beat your ass for telling Atsumu first.”
Akaashi chuckled, and Atsumu ended up asleep in Sakusa’s arms, while Kenma was now arranging logistics. “We're telling Hinata?” Akaashi asked.
“Ha, no,” Kenma chuckled, Akaashi prepping Kenma’s usual espresso whenever he got this determined but didn’t have the energy to keep going on for long, “part of me wants to be like ‘heyo look who’s here, you’re no longer flyin’ solo,” Akaashi gave Kenma a glare, reminding the gamer that Akaashi was here without his boyfriend, “also, Shoyo deserves to have his boyfriend here y’know?”
Sakusa could agree with that sentiment; it didn’t matter if Atsumu was loud, stubborn, arrogant… extended time away felt painful, and Hinata may be masking the pain through self-discovery, but it did not mean he wasn’t feeling the effects of not having his boyfriend around.
“Oi, you stubborn brat, send me a picture when you’re at the airport,” Kenma demanded, “we’ve also gotta figure out a way to keep Shoyo occupied.”
Hearing a shaky breath across the line, Akaashi wondered if he was having any second thoughts. About coming, not about everything else. Kenma paid and sent the flight details, and then sent Kuroo a message, curious as to how long this camera-free shopping trip would be.
“Cool, so you should land just before Kuro and Sho are done with their trip, and we’ll meet you at the airport. Atsumu and Sakusa’s appearance is debatable considering the current state of Atsumu.” Atsumu was sound asleep, soft snores filling Sakusa’s ears, a soft rise and fall of his chest signifying a deep and peaceful rest.
[2 HOURS LATER BC EVERYTHING WAS LOGISTICAL]
“So, you’re telling me this is what three hours of shopping resulted in?” Akaashi asked, looking at the barely even filled boot, as after all, Kuroo and Hinata made it seem like they’d be going heavy shopping here.
“Look, we got… sidetracked, alright?” Kuroo chuckled, looking at Hinata's red face, and Kenma just brushed it off, not the least bit curious (oh, he was actually very curious, but he had more things to worry about right now - like how he was going to explain this to Hinata).
Sakusa drove one car (with just Atsumu), Kuroo drove the other, and Hinata was questioning why they were heading to the airport. “Oooh, are we gonna do some airport shopping?” Hinata questioned, and, true, airports had some cool shops, so no one disputed what he was saying. As in, Kenma and Akaashi, as Kuroo was still in the dark about everything.
Akaashi just sighed, trying not to give away anything while Kenma was tracking the flight details, with a picture of the flight details shown on the screen and their progression to the airport as Hinata and Kuroo recounted their day. Atsumu and Sakusa had a camera in their car, but every time it panned to them, Atsumu was bitching about Tokyo traffic while Sakusa was pacifying him.
“Kenma, do you wanna stop by the local markets on the way back?” Kuroo asked, “They’ve got the apple pie booth running, and you got so pissy when you missed it last year.” Akaashi snorted at that, and Kenma just groaned, wishing he could–
“Probably?” Kenma shrugged, and while Kuroo brushed it off, he paused, then looked at Kenma and raised an eyebrow. While Kenma silently tried to brush Kuroo off, he wasn’t having it and was confused.
As they drove, Kenma was just dodging looks from his own boyfriend, and Hinata was none the wiser, while Akaashi was just questioning why he even chose this car since Atsumu and Sakusa would be less restrictive in what they could talk about.
Arrival at the airport was confusing and also annoying for those paying for parking. “Look, all I am saying is airport parking is so extortionate that you’re better off parking way away and walking,” Kenma argued, while Hinata and Kuroo placated him. Sakusa hadn’t batted an eye paying for parking, and Atsumu envied that - like seriously.
“Anyways, where are we going?” Hinata asked, genuinely curious, and Atsumu wrapped his arm around Hinata’s neck and smiled.
“Come on, let’s go for a nice little walk,” Kuroo was now holding the camera as the group made their way sneakily to ‘Arrivals’, and Hinata was pointing out shops to enter. Honestly, Hinata wanted a massive plushie to annoy his boyfriend with, cuddling it instead of him just to be petty.
“Oh, hey, look, a flight just came in from Osaka.” Hinata pointed out, smiling, thinking about everyone at home calling them crazy for this, but they were actually doing good.
No one said a word as Hinata’s demeanour changed, eyes widening as the group from the Osaka flight came down, before facing Atsumu – before facing everyone – honestly about to start crying.
“Fuck off, you didn’t.” The few times they’d let a swear word in the show, just to show how stunned, how shocked, Hinata was. Literal tears dropped, and Atsumu let go and smiled.
“Go.”
The clip ended with Hinata basically running off in the direction of the escalators before fading to black.
[A reunion unlike any other]

Meian, Inunaki, Tomas and Oliver managed to get gym access to throw Hinata a reception he truly deserved. Now, it was their time to start arranging everything, and that meant messaging someone who could get in contact with everyone in the volleyball circuit while also keeping it a secret.
@shugomeian:
sorry to message you like this Kenma, but we (me, Inunaki, Oliver and Tomas) are planning to throw Hinata and Kageyama an impromptu surprise reception at the gym (it’s free of charge)@KODZUKEN_twt:
Dw i got you
Also if you need any extra financing lmk@shugomeian:
We should be fine with financing it’s more of telling everyone but making sure no one spills the beans and navigating everyone coming in (since it would be a whole lot)@KODZUKEN_twt:
yh dw I can manage that with some help w/ the setters gc tbh (we indeed do have one w/o Kageyama)
Just lmk dates, times, and all but honestly the fact ur throwing this will make Sho happy so don’t even stress out about themes@shugomeian:
Yh that’s what we thought since Hinata doesn’t ask for much though it will be wedding themed and navy and orange (if we can manage it) but really whatever we can scrape together in such a short time frame since we intend to do this right after the last vlog releases
Kenma just chuckled, and yelled out to Kuroo to get his but moving and using all of his manpower to ensure everyone makes it to Osaka.
“We’re throwing Hinata and Kageyama a reception!” Kenma yelled as Kuroo seemed so confused, but Kuroo was down for it, wholeheartedly down to do this for them after the elopement.

Chapter Text
“Atsumu what are you doing?” Hinata asked as he sat across from the camera and behind was heard a snicker. “And what have you done to Akaasan’s living room?”
“Nothing he didn’t approve of,” Atsumu chuckled, “but please state your name, affiliation to the vlog and your purpose.”
“Atsumu the hell–”
[AKAASHI]
“My name is Akaashi Keiji, I’m Bokuto’s boyfriend who has been abandoned to babysit Atsumu, Hinata, Kenma and Kuroo during this stretch of the vlog.”
Atsumu groaned and sighed. “I can’t even argue with that.”
[KENMA]
“My name is Kozume Kenma also known as KODZUKEN, I am Hinata’s best friend and main financier of the road trip vlogs.”
[KUROO]
“My name is Kuroo Tetsurou, I am Kenma’s lovely, amazing boyfriend and honestly, here for vibes y’know?”
Atsumu snorted at that.
[SAKUSA]
“I’m only doing this ‘cause I love you. I’m Sakusa Kiyoomi, Atsumu’s boyfriend, and my role is to make sure Atsumu doesn’t go completely insane on this trip and bring him back to this humble reality.”
“OMI-KUN!!” Atsumu yelled and Sakusa just gave his lovely boyfriend a smile.
“And I make sure Hinata doesn’t deal with Atsu’s tantrums.”
[HINATA]
“Geez, alright, I’m Hinata Shoyo, and I’m the literal reason this trip exists. Happy?”
“Thank you.” Atsumu smiled from behind the camera.
“Why’s the camera rolling before I even sit down?”
“Cause I like an element of suspense,” Atsumu giggled, “sit down.”
Walking onto the screen, was a figure everyone in the volleyball community knew, whether they wanted to or not.
“Please state your name, affiliation to the vlog and your purpose for being here to the camera please.”
Taking a deep breath, the camera focused as he spoke.
“My name is Kageyama Tobio, I am Hinata’s idiot boyfriend, and my purpose for being here, well, is to surprise him, but also to figure out a way to propose.”
Atsumu squealed and Kageyama just smiled.
[Flashback to yesterday]
“Wait,” Hinata moved back, seeing Kageyama, “wait why the fuck are you here?”
“Wow, way to wound me babe.”
Hinata didn’t let go though, but when facing back to the smug looks of his friends… he realised what was going on.
Oh he did not…
“No but I don’t think you get how much this means to me y’know?” Tears started pooling in Hinata’s eyes and they (Atsumu, Kenma and Akaashi) just cooed at his reaction. Sakusa and Kuroo just smiled at the reunion. “But why…?”
“Well, my dear little Sho-kun,” Atsumu smiled, but Kageyama was basically pleading with him to not say a word, “why not my dear?”
“Heh? Never mind,” Hinata basically dragged Kageyama out of the airport and Atsumu was given a right smack by Sakusa.
“You are to behave,” Sakusa basically ordered, “and I mean it. No fucking about with Kageyama, ok?” Atsumu looked like a wounded puppy when he was told he was no longer allowed to mess with Kageyama.
[KAGEYAMA]
“Serves you right,” Atsumu threw a bottle that missed, (an empty one), to which Kageyama dodged and gave Atsumu a devilish smirk, almost taunting his fellow setter to dare try again, “honestly, if Sakusa-san didn’t stop you, you’d have sent me into a heart attack.” Kageyama deadpanned and Atsumu huffed.
“Anyways, how was it, seeing Sho after everything?” Atsumu asked curiously, switching to a more relevant topic, “you guys had one of your most emotional fights mid-trip and also sorted it out mid-trip.”
Kageyama yawned (a side effect of travelling rather than actual fatigue), and thought about it. “It was… eye-opening, y’know? We normally spend half the year away from each other, but we’re so... consumed with our careers that we don’t feel the effects of distance as much. Then when it’s the off season, we usually spend that time together. But, while I was wrapped up in what I wanted, what I needed, I forgot to ask what Hinata needed. He needed me to support him, to not judge him for wanting to do this, and I’ll always be pissed at myself for the way I acted, but seeing him so happy, seeing everyone again, and just… at peace… that wasn’t something I could give him at that moment. And you know, some could twist it around on Hinata, ask why he decided on this last minute, why he didn’t ask me to come along, but in a way, that sort of answers that.”
Atsumu listened intently, not surprised by the answer but a bit shocked Kageyama could speak for this long. “How so?”
“Well, for one, in a sense, you seem to be going through something on your own, and Hinata’s picked up on it.” Atsumu huffed from behind the camera. “Something I wasn’t going through, so I wouldn’t understand why you guys needed this. And second, do I really need to be with Hinata at every hour of every day? You know my past relationships–”
“Do we really need to talk about that?” Atsumu chimed in.
“Oh trust me, Hinata loves boasting about this. Anyways, my past relationships, I was never a physical touch kind-of-person, my love language wasn’t that. But, with how our relationship began…”
“You need it more than you realised,” Atsumu finished, noticing how Kageyama struggled to formulate how he felt, how he feels with Hinata’s absence.
[HINATA]
“I think it’s important to emphasis how you and Kageyama got together,” Atsumu said, and Hinata raised an eyebrow, “and just to let you know, Kageyama did answer this question too, was quite honest about it as well.”
Hinata tilted his head and shrugged. “Well, short version was, we confessed our not-so-unrequited feelings for each other just as I was leaving for Brazil, then when I came back, I stayed with him, then went to Jackal try-outs and switched to long distance. Long version is two years of insanity, then 2 months of never leaving each other’s side, then picking up my entire life - again - to move to Osaka.”
“During the two months you two were attached by the hip, was anything official?” Atsumu asked, more for his own curiosity.
“No,” Hinata shook his head, “more of figuring out where we both were in our lives. It’s why we always say we four got our shit sorted out at the same time.”
Atsumu gave Hinata a warning look. “Do not drag me into–”
[SAKUSA]
“Oh I’m dragging you into this,” Sakusa commented after hearing Kageyama and Hinata’s words, “considering you kept deflecting my advances to help Hinata navigate his relationship. I’m still pissed off about that. And the fact people still think you chased me down, wore me down, I take absolute offence to that, like...” Sakusa took a breath, calming himself down, before smiling rather scarily. Atsumu blinked a few times.
“Omi-kun?”
“Yes my love?”
“Love you.”
[KUROO]
“Do you understand the struggle it took to get Kenma to get away from his phone during that period? All he could talk about was Hinata and Kageyama, like their relationship was a shock,” Kuroo huffed, “he lasted all of two seconds before freaking out.”
Atsumu chuckled at that. “Anyways, what was the question?”
“What’s your take on Hinata and Kageyama’s getting married?”
[KENMA]
“Oh I smacked Kageyama when Hinata went to the shops. Sorry, you do not spring this on me, no not ever, and especially not Sho.”
[AKAASHI]
“Honestly, yeah I see why Kenma lectured Kageyama like that. You know, Bokuto-san and I have been talking about marriage, and just as friends do, I talked with Kenma about it, Kuroo and Bokuto had their bro night where they talked about it. Not ‘cause Bokuto-san needs their permission or anything, but y’know, marriage… it’s a big step. You have a wedding…”
[SAKUSA]
“Marriage is so different to a wedding. Wedding is one day, marriage is forever–”
“Unless you divorce.”
“Atsu–”
“Shutting up. Continue.” Sakusa chuckled, shaking his head.
“Take you and me for example, we’ve talked about a hypothetical marriage, never really talked about a wedding.” Atsumu sort of froze hearing this, “marriage is something that needs to be talked about. It’s like the ultimate intertwining of lives, and to just say, considering you look absolutely petrified right now, a proposal is in the distant yet near future,” Sakusa assured, “we haven’t talked about marriage enough for me to think about proposing ok?”
It was like a breath he was holding finally let go. “Really?”
“Really. Any other questions?”
[AKAASHI]
“You know, being the only one who’s ‘alone’,” Akaashi did quotation marks with his hands, “isn’t that bad. And honestly, I feel like we’d get nothing done if Kou was here,” Atsumu nodded in agreement.
“Bokuto just fits everywhere. Me, Sho, Omi and Bo. You, Ken-chan, Kuroo, Bo. Kuroo, Bokkun, Omi, Kageyama. Wasn’t there your owl team? You, Bokkun and Sho-kun?”
“Yeah,” Akaashi chuckled, “Hinata was so cute back then. Followed Bokuto-san like a baby chick.” Atsumu cooed at the imagery. Atsumu was counting on his hands and he gasped.
“3v3 match with a ref! We’ve got the numbers AND 4 setters!”
[KENMA]
“You can fuck right off with the 4 setters nonsense, I barely move.” Kenma snapped, causing Atsumu to buckle over laughing his head off. “Alright.” Atsumu was still laughing however, and Kenma looked pained.
“Hold the fuck up!” Kenma yelled and everyone seemed to stand to attention at his yell, “have you and Shoyo even talked about marriage?”
“Yeah.”
That simple ‘yeah’ seemed to break the room. Atsumu became a mute, while Kenma turned into a statue, Sakusa and Kuroo had to become last-minute translators for their stunned to silence boyfriends, while Akaashi… oh he was enjoying this.
“So, you’re saying… you two actually planned to get married… in the near… close future?” Kuroo asked, absolutely baffled by Kageyama’s admission. “Like,” he pointed to his own ring finger, and Kageyama slowly nodded.
“Yeah, wait, why are you all so shocked by this?”
“Well for a fact Hinata’s not told anyone?” Sakusa suggested, “judging by the fact Atsumu hasn’t told me anything and Kenma seems to be frozen into shock… yeah…”
Kageyama shrugged, not caring as to why Hinata didn’t tell them, but a bit curious. “So what are we talking about? Proposal here? Waiting–”
“Proposing here, well… not here, but– yeah.”
[KENMA]
“H-How– How did I feel? Well, imagine your best friend doesn’t tell you you’re in the midst of marriage discussions, only to find out from said boyfriend of your best friend that not only have they been actively talking about marriage, but plans to propose,” Atsumu had never, and I mean never seen Kenma so vocal, so expressive, “the fuck was I supposed to feel?”
[HINATA]
“This is why I put off telling Kenma.” Hinata laughed.
[KUROO]
“And I had to deal with this Kenma.” Kuroo groaned.
[AKAASHI]
“Hey, I’m just happy for ‘em.” Akaashi smiled, “anyways, step 1 in what not to do when proposing. Do not hold off on telling your close ones that you plan to propose. Especially when said close one is like Kozume Kenma to Hinata Shoyo… or me. Kenma was sort of freaking out, but that was probably more excitement on his end than anything.”
[SAKUSA]
“A guide in what not to do when proposing? Step 2, have this proposal conversation when your partner is seconds away from coming into the house?”
“That works.” Atsumu smiled.
“Yeah, not a good idea.”
[KUROO]
“Step 3, never believe a word Kenma says.”
“Huh?”
“You left during this, driving Sakusa back. Roll the tape, geez I was petrified.” Kuroo shivered. Atsumu was baffled.
“I’ll be back, but Omi needs his beauty sleep.” Atsumu teased, but actually Sakusa was just tired, and Atsumu didn’t want him falling asleep in a place he wasn’t comfy in. So, Atsumu headed off, dropping Sakusa back at Akaashi’s before coming back, and during this time, Kenma, Akaashi and Hinata sat on the couch and Kenma was looking at rings.
“Woah, why are you looking at rings?” Kenma looked to Hinata and smiled.
“Well, I’m singling out rings I would like when I’m proposed to,” Kuroo felt his heart basically leap out of his throat, “what about you? Any sort of dream engagement ring? Any budget first?”
Hinata shrugged. “I mean, unless the ¥2 million budget still is in play?” Smirking towards his boyfriend who was trying and failed at being nonchalant, Kageyama nodded, which caused Hinata to whip out his phone and show Akaashi and Kenma exactly what he wanted.
A wide silver band that has a dipped edge, with a 4 carat radiant diamond in the centre. Simplistic yet beautiful. “Oh wow,” Kageyama and Kuroo peeked and it truly was a beautiful engagement ring. “A pity I won’t get it any time soon. Anyways, show me, show me yours Kenma!”
[SAKUSA]
“Kenma’s scary.” Sakusa shivered.
“Very.”
[KAGEYAMA]
“Step 3–”
“4.” Atsumu clarified.
“Step 4 on what not to do when proposing, don’t try to get an engagement ring when your partner is ‘deprived’ and refuses to let you be on your own. Geez.”
Atsumu shook his head and smiled. "You are welcome."
[The Next Day]
“Omi-kun, who knew we’d be going engagement ring shopping for not our own one?” Atsumu asked.
“I am only doing this because the jeweller is a family friend, that’s it.” As Sakusa and Atsumu went to pick up the engagement ring, Kenma and Akaashi managing to figure out Hinata’s ring size as a little experiment (no seriously, the pair were scary in managing to fool Hinata).
“Hey, which ring would you like? You know, if I propose.” Atsumu smirked maniaclly, and Sakusa just looked at the pre-made rings from this family run business and picked one.
“Really?” Atsumu pointed the camera at a custom made black and gold ring, which looked more like a wedding band than an actual engagement ring. “Just… black and gold?”
“Yeah. Like you and me.”
[camera’s are off now]
Atsumu broke out into a massive blush. “Kiyoomi, you are lucky I have these rings in stock, however this is for must be one lucky recipient.”
“Uh huh, how much this setting me back?” Sakusa offered to take the hit until Kageyama could sort out the financing of the ring and promised to pay him back, even wrote a whole agreement and everything.
“Well, this would set you back about ¥2.5 million,” Atsumu tried to not react, “though for you, considering the last order, let’s say 1 million.”
Atsumu was glad he turned off the camera because huh?
“Omi?”
“Don’t ask.”
“Omi, don’t tell me the earrings—”
[KAGEYAMA]
“Yeah why did you turn off the camera?”
“Oh, cause I didn’t know if Omi-kun’s jeweller was ok in being recorded ‘n all. I don’t get how I date him y’know, like geez wealthy people are a whole different breed. So, you got the engagement ring, what next?”
“You know what next, an absolute insanity of a proposal.”
“It was cute.”
[HINATA]
“I need to stop snooping, but, look–”
“Sho-kun don’t even try to justify this, no no no, you snooped. End of.”
[AKAASHI]
“And this is why we listen to me, I warned you all Hinata was gonna snoop. He’s a bloodhound for gifts.”
“I mean yeah, but seriously, blaming us?”
“No, I wholeheartedly blame Hinata, but hey, honestly I liked the way it went down better than if Kageyama was gonna surprise him y’know? I mean, hasn’t this always how they’ve been? Hinata always being the unexpected one? And the fact he is older too…”
Atsumu chuckled, wiping away a stray tear. “You ok?” Akaashi asked.
“Yeah, well, let’s roll the tape.”
As the day progressed, the plans came to a standstill as Kageyama couldn’t figure out how to propose to Hinata, surprise walk, rent a boat, like what was he supposed to do now he got the ring?
“Where is it?”
“My bag where else?”
Akaashi just stared at Kageyama. “He’s gonna find it.”
Kageyama brushed away the concerns, and the camera cut to Atsumu and Hinata shopping for new clothes. “We talking date worthy outfits. But like, sex on legs–”
“Fuck off with that,” Hinata laughed, but they managed to find an outfit for him. A black turtleneck, white button-up to go on top, and blue dress pants.
“You still wear it.” Atsumu pointed out, signalling to the necklace, a silver bar connected to a chain. A gift, not from Kageyama, but from his Karasuno seniors, engraved was 飛べ (fly), a reminder of everything. Hinata was forever thankful (and thankful it was pure platinum) so it never tarnished and he could keep wearing it. He even wore it in the hot summers of Brazil.
“Anyways, why are you even taking me to get a new outfit, what is Kageyama like taking me out on a date or something?”
Atsumu muttered ‘or something’ but Hinata didn’t hear, waiting for an answer as he took off the outfit he tried on, and Atsumu chuckled dryly, “can I not buy you an outfit Sho-kun?”
“No.”
“Wow, rude.” Atsumu feigned pain but knew this was for a good cause, and he was also having to behave ‘cause he actually didn’t feel like pissing off Sakusa with his usual antics. Atsumu went off to pay as Hinata stewed in his thoughts before looking at the time. It was getting late and Kageyama would probably want to spend some time alone, away from the cameras.
The day concluded, Hinata heading back with Atsumu, but noticed Kageyama was not doing what he assumed, but speaking in hushed tones with Kenma and Kuroo, which he also found odd. Even more, Akaashi was directing his attention away from the boyfriend he was missing.
“I’m gonna put this away and actually set up Kageyama’s space, and not whatever nonsense he said was fine.” Hinata said to the occupied room, and just stared at them.
“Oh, Kuroo found the spare futon, he didn’t set it up though.”
Hinata nodded, and just took the camera with him, murmuring complaints about how Kageyama flew down only to spend more time with everyone but his own boyfriend. Also was justifying it, saying yeah, Kageyama may just be sorting out logistics, but seriously, Hinata was down.
As Hinata sorted out the room, a cleaning montage as one may say, he accidentally knocked over Kageyama’s bag and some toiletries spilled out. “You know, I bought him a whole bag as well, but he never uses it.”
Atsumu walked in and noticed Hinata was cleaning up. “I’mma change the battery, and apparently road trip worthy content is unfolding in the living room.”
“I’m gonna clean this mess of a space since I’m probably gonna stay here for the rest of our time in Tokyo.” Hinata stated, and Atsumu didn’t mind, wasn’t like he was complaining.
Atsumu changed the camera and placed it in the living room.
“So we’ve crossed out dinner, romantic walk, romantic homemade dinner, ferris wheel… how many proposal options are there?” Kuroo sighed, and Kenma was baffled as to how Kageyama should propose. Akaashi suggested ‘whatever feels natural’ but Kageyama honestly said what felt natural was just popping the question however. No need for theatrics.
“Then do that,” Atsumu shrugged, “I mean, you don’t have to go all out. Hey, I’m just sayin’, if Omi-kun decides to propose to me while I’ve got bed-hair, munching on my breakfast like a beast, looking like a gremlin, I would simultaneously kill him for making that our engagement story and start crying from joy.”
“Does that you even exist?” Akaashi asked.
“Oh it does, and it has made me question why Omi says he loves that me more, but hey, he’s weird, and I’m his gremlin, I dunno, relationships are odd.” Shrugging at the imagery, Atsumu just let his voice trail off and Kuroo laughed, shaking his head in disbelief.
After a while of discussion, Kenma got up, about to head to Hinata and see how he was doing, when Kenma froze. Fully stopped in his tracks, causing Kuroo to wonder what was going on.
“Kitten?”
Kenma stepped off to the side, revealing not just Hinata to the crowd, but to the camera… holding a box.
The box.
The box with his engagement ring.
[No, the sound has not been muted, it just feels that way doesn’t it]
The disclaimer was put on the screen, because it felt like all sound had drowned from around them, Kageyama feeling his heart beating in his ears, and everyone just waiting to see how Hinata reacted.
“Did… did you open it?” Kageyama tentatively asked.
Hinata just looked down at the box then at Kageyama.
“Baby?”
Kageyama gulped but responded, “yes?”
“If you’re gonna keep an engagement ring hidden, maybe not in the bag I’m going to sort out?”
“Yeah… well… can’t really say I learned for next time… can I?” Kageyama chuckled nervously. “So, you opened it.”
Hinata nodded, “yeah, yeah I did.” It came out as a whisper, but it punctuated the whole room, seemingly making everyone (Akaashi, Kenma, Kuroo, Atsumu and a now present Sakusa who came with teas, to take a step back).
“Do you… want me to do the whole one knee thing, say a speech that will make you cry and all?”
Hinata actually thought about it. “You got a speech prepared?”
Their voices, rich with emotion, but soft, a stark contrast to how they usually were with one another, and everyone rather. A voice that really only existed in the most emotional, most intimate moments between them.
“Too many,” which is when Kenma and Atsumu realised that this was actually going down, right now, which somehow managed to stir up their emotions even more. Akaashi had already grabbed tissues, but honestly needed more.
Taking a step forward, Kageyama held onto Hinata’s hands, with the box now between their grip, “but it can be summed up to this,” tears began welling up in Hinata’s eyes but refused to drop, “I don’t want to live without you. Ever since I met you, the world that was black and white now has colour. Until I saw your light, that… that was when I felt truly alive. And honestly, we could just stay as partners, as boyfriends, but I want to go all the way, with you by my side. You’ve made me into the best person, the best version of myself, because I love you, but I also love the person I am with you.”
Hinata was now just letting his tears drop, because the words Kageyama was saying were so raw, so beautiful. “And,” Kageyama felt his voice crack, “a-and I’d hope you’d let me do the honours of marrying you, whether it be now, in a week or in 10 years, I want to marry you Hinata Shoyo. I want to be your husband.”
Hinata just nodded, too scared to even open his mouth in fear he’d just start crying, and just hugged into Kageyama’s chest, holding him close.
[HINATA]
Hinata flashed his engagement ring to the camera and beamed a smile so bright it was actually blinding. “I’M ENGAGED!!”
Atsumu could only laugh from behind the camera and smile.
[KAGEYAMA]
“We’re on step 5 now aren’t we? A guide on what not to do when proposing, step 5, do not keep the engagement ring in a place so easily spotted.” Kageyama sighed, still on the high from being an engaged man.
“See, that’s quite obvious, in my opinion.” Atsumu quipped.
“And step 6, do not get the engagement ring before you’ve made your speech. I, actually, did have multiple ready, hadn’t finalised it though.”
[KUROO]
“Sorry, what came out from Kageyama was fuckin’ poetry.”
[KENMA]
“Absolute insanity, who taught him to speak like that.”
[AKAASHI]
“I was shocked, he put my writing skills to shame then, but then again, Kageyama spoke from the heart, so, really, how does one even recover from that.”
[SAKUSA]
“Matters of the heart, huh? Well, Kageyama knew what he wanted to say in the end, and Hinata heard his most raw words. Anyways, want me to stay over since Hinata is gonna be bunking with Kageyama then?”
“Oooh, really? I’ll actually come over lol, Ken-chan has enough guests.”
“Ask Akaashi if you can come over before you do.”
[ATSUMU]
“You know, a guide in what not to do when proposing seems fitting. I mean, seriously. But hey, Hinata’s engaged… WAIT HE AND KAGEYAMA ARE THE YOUNGEST OUT OF ALL OF US WHAT THE–”
[STAY TUNED]
[Atsumu: that crash out was valid af, sorry how is Hinata engaged before his elders huh??]
Next Week Snippet:
Miya Atsumu: “Tobio-chan, sorry repeat that?”
Hinata Shoyo: “You know… my Mom’s gonna kill me right?”
Sakusa Kiyoomi: “I swear this is the only time you want me to flaunt my wealth.”
Kageyama Tobio: “Kenma-san, I feel like you’re being a bit paranoid.”
Kozume Kenma: “Look, all I’m sayin’ is… my roof is available…”
Kuroo Tetsuro: “Hey, be good to each other alright?”
Akaashi Keiji: “You want me to what?!”
In a shocking turn of events, twitter was silent.
The group chats… they were not.
“KAGEYAMA!!” Hinata yelled from upstairs, and the setter went up to see if Hinata was just calling him or actually needed help. Hinata was in the bath and smiled. “Wanna join?”
“You can ask me like a normal person and not scream my name. Shuffle up.”
Hinata and Kageyama silenced their chats.
@miya.atsumu: I hope you liked this format, it’s not a one-off but I didn’t know if it would do well lol. Unfortunately next week’s title is also redacted, hope you accept my apologies. I also do hope any questions can hold off until tomorrow where I will be doing my twitter rounds then, right now, you all can stew in these feelings lol
Sakusa wondered if Atsumu was actually OK. “You can do a break between leaving Kanto and entering Chubu y’know? You’ve basically been handling the promotions on your own to keep Hinata away from the negative comments and everything, but it’s gonna get to you.” Sakusa stressed, and Atsumu just nodded, climbing into bed and sighing, honestly doing these promotions without managerial help was hard. And it was true, in the midst of all the happiness, there was hate. A lot of hate.
And especially now, when Hinata and Kageyama announced their relationship and engagement in one go, Hinata not really seeing the comments because he was wrapped up in the blissful honeymoon period, and Atsumu didn’t want to take away from that.
@onigiri.miya: I would just like to say, in the midst of all of this, I am actually very proud of my brother @miya.atsumu for handling all of the RTOL promotions and fan interactions on his own. Yes, lemme be the sappy brother ✌️
@suna.rintarou_EJP: hehe sappy bro, anyways, this is so true considering Atsumu has barely been calling, dude’s busy af with this @sakusa he doin good?
@sakusa: he’s holding up well despite the fatigue, because this does get tiring
And Sakusa was indeed right, Atsumu was very tired, judging by how he was snuggled asleep, not even doing his skin or hair routine, just from fatigue of handling all of this on his own with not even a PR Manager to help guide them - because really, Nakajima was the worst, and Atsumu would rather have hell freeze over than leave a man like him to handle the creation that is this vlog series.
And Sakusa was going to support him, because Atsumu really wanted to do this, and Sakusa would do anything to lessen his burden, his strain, even if it was just a little bit.
