Chapter Text
FEBRUARY 8, 2214, MUSTAFU, JAPAN.
Izuku was running, praying that Kacchan and his lackeys didn’t catch up to him. “Oh Kami, why now!?” He muttered to himself as he moved through different alleys, luckily avoiding trash cans that were littered around.
“GET BACK HERE, DEKU!!!” He heard far behind himself before reaching a new alleyway, which had a door that once he went, to his luck, was unlocked, so he quickly ran in and leaned under the door, hands over his mouth, and listening as Katsuki and his lackeys ran past the door, as they didn’t see it.
“Uff….that was close…” He whispered to himself before standing back up and looking around.}
recognizing the place. “Oh…It’s the hospital….got lucky, huh?” He chuckled to himself before getting up. “Maybe Mom is on break, I should go check…” He started walking, reaching the door at the end of the corridor, which led to the waiting room of the hospital, attracting the attention of a nurse, who looked up from the documents she was checking on the reception table.
“Hey, how did you get in?” She asked as she stood up. “That corridor is supposed to be locked, young man,” She said sternly, making Izuku shuffle nervously. “Um…I didn’t see anything saying people weren’t allowed to walk in, and it was unlocked?” He said with a nervous smile, and the nurse just sighed and brought her hand to her face. “Fine, I’ll have to check why it isn’t locked…” She grumbled before looking back at him. “So, what brings you here, kid? You don’t seem hurt…unless you are hiding it?” She gave him an unamused stare, looking him up and down for any injuries.
“Oh no! I…I was coming by, and my mom works here, so I wanted to see her if it wasn’t too much trouble. Iknowthatsometimesshe’sratherbusyandIwuldn’twanttointerrupther-“ “Kid, relax.” She chuckled, but Izuku couldn’t help letting out a small yelp, blushing in embarrassment. “What’s your mom’s name? I can check if she’s on break or working with a patient that doesn’t require any extra attention.” She smiled at him softly.
“Um, Midoriya Inko? She’s a nurse…” He mumbled softly as he looked down, and the nurse hummed herself as she turned to her computer. “Midoriya….I am pretty sure she’s- There we go!” She turned back to Izuku with a smile. “She’s currently busy with some patients in the ICU, but I think neither of them would mind having you there.” She chuckled. “You seem like a nice kid, so just avoid messing with any of the machines there, ok? She is on the third floor, room 328.”
“Oh, thanks!” He beamed at her, making her chuckle before pointing to an elevator, and he quickly rushed over, pressing the button and waving goodbye to the receptionist before walking inside and letting the doors close behind him. “Cute kid,” She muttered before turning back to the computer and seeing that she had read the number wrong: Instead of 328, it was 329. “Oh…I’m sure it will be fine, I don’t think there’s anyone in that room.” She chuckled to herself before turning back to the documents she was checking early.
Meanwhile, Izuku reached the third floor and started looking for the room. “326…27…Oh, there it is!” He smiled as he saw the room and knocked on the door before walking in. “Excuse my intrusion-“ He paused in surprise as he saw an old man lying on a bed, looking at him with a curious and amused stare.
“Well. I wasn’t expecting visits, especially today.” He chuckled before cuffing, a bit of blood leaking out of his blood. “A-are you ok!?” Izuku panicked as he rushed over, reaching for the tissues on the nightstand next to his bed and handing them over. “S-should I call a nurse or-“ “Relax, Kiddo, this is…normal for me,” The old man said after cleaning his mouth. “Sorry for scaring you, I know it’s not a nice…thing to see.” He chuckled. “Say, what’s your name? I can’t seem to recognize you.” He gave Izuku a curious glance over.
“I-I’m Izuku Midoriya, S-sir,” He vowed to the old man, embarrassed. “I-I’m sorry for intruding in. I-I was looking for my mom, and they told me she was working with a doctor in your room-“
“OH, you’re Inko’s boy, aren’t you?” He smiled at the surprised expression Izuku had: “Whoever told you so was right that she’s working with a doctor here, but not today.” He chuckled. “She’s in room 329, and she normally works on me from Thursday to Saturday, Kiddo.” Izuku blushed even more in embarrassment. “Oh, I-I’m sorry, I must have heard wrong, I-I’m sorry,” He mumbled.
The old man laughed. “Don’t worry, I enjoy this type of situation, make the stay more relaxing.” He smiled at Izuku in a way that Izuku wasn’t used to, just like the nurse earlier did.
“O-ok, If you s-say so, Mr.…?” Izuku glanced at the old man, a curious look in his eyes. The old man chuckled again, smiling at Izuku softly. “You can call me Grandpa Jason,” Izuku sputtered, surprised at the relaxed way he said it, making the old man-Jason, chuckle at him.
“Your mother has become something close to a daughter to me, so I don’t mind if you call me so, Kiddo.” He laughed softly, making Izuku relax and giving him a nervous but genuine smile. “I-if you say so, S-sir-Grandpa!” He blushed a bit at the slip-up.
“Um…M-may I ask why you are here, Grandpa?” Izuku asked, rubbing his thumbs together nervously and looking down embarrassed. “Don’t look like that, Kiddo.” Jason reached for Izuku’s hair, petting his head gently. “I don’t mind…I have cancer, and it’s become obvious that I won’t beat it…” Izuku looked at him, ashamed of himself. “I-I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have asked such a question-“ “Don’t worry, I already accepted it…and besides, it’s not like I won’t leave a mark here, y’know?” Jason chuckled at the confused stare Izuku was giving him.
“I probably shouldn’t tell you…might get in trouble with the Americans.” He chuckled as he removed his hand from Izuku’s head. “But it’s not like they can do anything about it, don’t you agree?”
Izuku laughed softly but was still nervous, especially at the mention of the USA. “I-I guess so?”
Jason couldn’t help smirking. “They can’t do much anyways with me over here.” He chuckled, and with a swift hand movement, a small portal the size of a soda can appeared on his hand. “Tell me, do you believe in the multiverse theory?” He asked a beaming Izuku Midoriya.
-U.A HIGH SCHOOL, JAPAN, 14 HOURS BEFORE-
Toshinori couldn’t help looking at Nezu with a small amount of concern, after all, it wasn’t common for the unidentifiable mammal to bring so many people to U.A like this: The top 10 Pro-heroes, all the teachers of the school, the Prime minister, and a representative of the Hero Commission. “Um…Sir, may I ask why you have called this…War meeting?” Toshinori cringed at that but understood why the minister asked, after all, it wasn’t something that anyone liked to hear: A war meeting, as if they were about to enter an armed conflict.
Nezu chuckled, but it was obvious it was forced. “Of course, Mr. Tamakawa.” He turned to the rest. “A few hours ago, we received a package from the American government, something that I found curious until I decided to check what was inside!” He then pulled AQN documents, which shocked everyone: AQD, Anti-Quirk Disclosure acted in a similar way to NDA’s, only focused on users of Quirks cataloged as Omega, and so were kept out of the Standard International Quirk Registry, unless the user decided to make it public (Something Toshinori had done weeks before Nana decided to give him One for All)
“Why are we signing this?” Edgeshot asked with a tense tone as Nezu passed the documents. “Are we dealing with another Atlas?” It was concerning because Atlas had been the only public Omega Quirk in the last 20 years, which was considered already a large threat globally, being one of the few Omega-Class Quirk users to destroy A continent just by using their quirk, and it took the top 5 of 3 different countries, backed up by the Australian government to take him down.
“We aren’t, although it could be something similar,” Nezu said with a toothy grin and sighed as everyone signed the AQDs. “We are going to be talking about what the United Nations considers the only Omega-Quirk family and the current member that has caused this meeting.” Everyone tensed immediately at that.
“A…family?” Someone asked although it wasn’t clear who. “That’s correct; this family has been confirmed to be the only ones so far to constantly hold Quirks that would be considered Omega class. They appeared during the second generation of Quirks, and they have a focus on the manipulation of reality”
Everyone started pailing, although Toshinori couldn’t blame them. Reality manipulation? Such a level of power has existed since so early on? “So far, only one member of the family has been publicly knowing of, although the lack of information on what she can do has been hidden from the world…until now.” He pulled out a controller, and once he pressed a button, they saw a TV drop from the ceiling. Once it turned on, they saw the faces of two people, one being of an old man who resembled Toshinori when he didn’t have OFA active to a chilling degree and a woman who a lot of people recognized.
“Star and Stripes!?” Crust asked in shock. “She’s an Omega!?” Toshinori couldn’t blame his reaction; he was just as surprised at this revelation.
“Catheleen Bate, AKA. Star and Stripes has a quirk called NEW ORDER, which allows her to control her surroundings by giving a specific order and can affect even the air around her, but she needs to have a hold of the object she wishes to order. So far, she can only have three orders up and has kept one order active for most of her career.” Nezu seemed to be rather amused by everyone’s reactions, which wasn’t surprising but left Toshi feeling rather annoyed.
“What about the other guy? Is he the one we are supposed to be concerned about?” Asked Ryukyu, looking slightly confused at the picture. “It’s just…what sort of threat could he present? He doesn’t look to be at his best…”
“That’s because he is not a threat; whatever he’s bringing is.” Nezu stopped smiling and turned the TV to focus on the man. “His name is Thomas Jason Bate, Grand Uncle of Star and Stripe; he is the second person of the first generation to be born of the Bate family, behind his brother, Wilson Bate, who was able to manipulate reality by changing the name of objects he could see, while Thomas…” He pressed another button, and the TV showed a video of Jason opening small portals and pulling out objects that resembled a phone, a weird ball, and multiple cans of liquids. “…Is a dimension hopper”
Everyone fell silent at that, looking at Nezu even more shocked. “Is..is he starting a Ragnarok event?” Endeavour asked, glaring at the video and his flames becoming stronger.
“He seems to be, although he doesn’t believe it will come to that…” Nezu pulled out a letter. “The USA government wrote me this letter, explaining that Mr. Bate has confirmed to be able to open multiple portals of multiple sizes and that he is close to dying from untreatable cancer caused by his quirk,” Nezu showed another picture, showing the man being taken inside Mustafu General Hospital. “He’s been staying in this hospital for the last few weeks. This is where he wants to pass away….and decided to leave a gift.”
Nezu pressed the button a final time, and another video started playing, showing the man lying on a hospital bed, but it didn’t look like the same type of room at Mustafu.
"Hello, my name is Thomas Jason Bate, and this is my goodbye." The older man said before coughing. "Some may recognize the name 'Bate,' but that's not the point I want to bring...." He started scoffing loudly before continuing, "I've lived for a long time and learned a lot from this world...but" He looked at the camera, a fire burning brightly behind his eyes "This isn't the only one"
“I’m dying, so I decided that before I go, I give our world a chance to change, become better than what we are now,” he smiled softly at the camera. “This video will be revealed to the internet a week before what I like to call a rift happens.” He chuckled and looked away. “I plan to open as many rifts as I can before I go…and I want you all to be ready.” He looked back at the camera. “This rift will lead to a world that is so different to ours…but so similar at the same time.” He coughed again. “Ugh…I guess I should make this short; otherwise, I might cough out a lung.” He chuckles before smiling. “I don’t know how many I’ll be able to open before It’s too much…but at least I know where I’m opening them.” He grabbed a water cup out of the frame and took a sip before looking back at the camera again. “I managed to stay in contact with the other side of the rift for a while now…so they are ready for the rifts to open on their side….On our side, I hope the ones I open don’t take long.” He smiled a smile that seemed so full of hope. “The first rift I decided to open will be on U.A High; I trust that the heroes there will make sure that no one tries anything…. villainous.” He chuckled wetly. “I don’t regret this decision, and I hope you prove me right.” He smirked. “Good luck!”
Finally, the video stopped, but no one dared to speak for a few minutes.
“…Has this video been uploaded online yet?” Miruko asked quietly, shocking some of the people present: They had never heard her speak like this before.
Nezu nodded. “2 days ago, it seems…”
“Sir, what do you want us to do?” Some looked at Present Mic, confused. “We don’t have a lot of time if, by the way, he said it, and the students most likely will expect an attack if they haven’t seen the video, Sir.” Nezu looked at Mic, amused, before chuckling. “I am already dealing with this.” H turned to the rest. “Classes Will be suspended for the rest of this week and the next one just so that we can prepare students for the presence of this Rift”
“I’m guessing you want some of us present in case this rift brings something dangerous through?” Toshinori asked Nezu, already having an idea of what the principal planned.
“Of course! I trust my workers to know how to deal with any possible threat, but having some of you present would help a lot, I would ask for backup from the JDSF, if possible, too.” He turned to the Minister. “I’ll see if we can assign a few troopers here, but with the time we have? I can’t promise much,” He said, sounding completely done with the ordeal.
“Perfect, I suppose we don’t have anything left to discuss then, correct?” Nezu asked as he looked around, everyone confirming so. “Only which heroes you want here, Sir,” Midnight said, a small smirk on her face. “We might need some with good endurance~.”
“I was hoping for All Might, Endeavour, Hawks, and Best Jeanist for now!” The Rat(?) chuckled. “Unless someone else wants to join on this..raid of sorts?” He looked around, curious.
“Oh, I’m joining, Rat!” Miruko got up, giving Nezu a feral smirk. “You can’t expect me to stand down from a fight here!”
“I…suppose I’ll join too if only to keep you from maiming someone,” Ryuku chuckled.
“Perfect! Then we are done, I’ll go prepare an assembly to inform the students of this change!” Nezu laughed as Midnight walked to him and let him go up and sit on her shoulder, and all got up and started leaving.
Toshi walked to Midnight just as everyone left, turning to Nezu. “Nezu, do you think we could talk about the teaching position you offered me, once we deal with this situation, I want to accept it”
Nezu laughed again while Midnight gave him a smirk. “Oh, so I get to see you around then, huh?~”
“Of course, All Might! Hopefully, this won’t take long, I know I gave you some time to think about it, but I can’t help but be excited about you taking it!!
Toshi chuckled, embarrassed. “I just feel like it’s the best now that I’ve had time to think about it.” He rubbed the back of his head, embarrassed. “I suppose I should let you two go; I can guess how stressful it will be to deal with the student's reactions”
“Of course, take care, No. 1~” Midnight winked at him before leaving with Nezu.
A few minutes later, once Toshi was sure no one would see him, he finally let OFA turn off, going from the imposing Number one hero to the lanky, tired Toshinori Yagi.
He hopes that Nezu is right and that the possible Ninth will show up at the school.
