Chapter Text
When Virgil got kicked out of his village, he didn’t know how long he’d be able to survive, all on his own with no protection from creatures, monsters, the elements.... Even though he had kind of been expecting it for a while, being ousted from his home hurt. Being given a small bag packed up with his most prized possessions and a few rations and then being pushed through the village gate out into the forest beyond still hurt deep in his heart. He didn't know how he was expected to feel about it all, it was painful, sure, but no-one from his home had really liked him anyway, he wasn't exactly attached to anyone in his village. He didn't really have time for feelings, though, so for now he shoved them down.
Feelings didn't matter right now, when he was more worried about how he'd survive at all. They had all been told the horror stories about the monsters that lived in the giant forests beyond their villages growing up. Monsters that would snap up a stray human to eat or worse. Virgil didn't want that to be his fate. So no, he wasn't thinking about how he felt right now, that didn't matter.
He'd be fine, though! He could just build himself a little shelter in the woods close enough to the village to be safe from the giants and grow his own food and he'd never have to worry about monsters or people ever again! Honestly it didn't sound like too bad of a life, Virgil had always been antisocial anyway.
That's what he thought at least as he wandered aimlessly through the forest trying to find somewhere he could set up a new home, not noticing how the trees were growing and growing in size around him until they're practically giant. That's when he finally realized he had wandered way too far from human territory lost in thought. He had meant to stay closer to his home, where the trees were the right size for him and everything was safe - or as safe as it could be for a lone human out in the woods.
But now he found himself lost in monster territory. He can't even work out where he had come from, everything was huge! The trees were big enough here that it would take him ten minutes to walk around just one trunk, the leaves were big enough to hide him entirely underneath them. He feels tiny and vulnerable down here on the forest floor. Anything could come along and pick him up easily, he wouldn't even be able to fight against them. What was he supposed to do if something tried to attack him if everything here was huge?
In the end, Virgil managed to find a hollow near enough to the base of one of the trees that he could easily climb to it and deep enough to hide him completely. That was okay for now, as long as he doesn't lose it the next time he goes out. But at least he has a place where he can settle for the night to eat something from his bag and sleep.
The next day, he remains in his nook all morning, but eventually he forces himself to go out, as he understands that he’ll need to forage if he wants to stay here. He’ll have to figure out what he could find here. Grabbing his bag - unwilling to leave his things behind when he knew there was a possibility he might get lost again - he climbs down from his tree and begins to walk.
About half an hour into his foraging, he suddenly feels the ground start to shake beneath him, throwing his arms out so as not to lose his balance, he glances around quickly. For a moment, he thinks that maybe it was just an earthquake. But then there was another shake. He frowns. What the hell is going on? Slowly he notices the shakes are far too small and rhythmic for it to be an earthquake, and as he focuses he realises they’re getting stronger. More like… footsteps?
Footsteps belonging to one of the giant monsters, Virgil realises abruptly. The ones that could kill him with just a finger if they wanted to, the ones that could step on him and crush him, eat him alive with barely even a thought-
One of them was nearby, and the footsteps were most definitely coming towards him.
Virgil looks around quickly, frantically trying to figure out if there would be anywhere to hide. He was too far from his nook to get back there now.
Eventually he spots a pile of leaves off to the side and runs for it, but for his tiny legs the leaves were too far away, and Virgil can see the giant approaching him now.
Ducking under one of the bigger leaves, he pulls it over himself. Hugging himself close, holding his breath and praying silently that the monster doesn't see him on their approach, that they would leave him alone and walk straight past. Virgil doesn’t want to die today.
He should've known that he can't be that lucky. He was Virgil; he never got anything nice in his life. He knew he had the worst luck around, how he expected this to possibly work out for him he had no idea.
There was a soft rumble from above and suddenly he was being scooped up into the air. Virgil shrieks, clutching his leaf and closing his eyes tight trying hard to keep control of his breathing and simply hoping that whatever it was that had found him would just make his death quick. It was no use panicking when he was about to die. But then he… didn't. When he was still alive a minute later, Virgil processes that his death wasn't quite as imminent as he had thought. That made him panic even more, because if they weren't killing him quickly then would he be made to suffer? What would they do to him?
Forcing himself to focus, Virgil finds himself lying on a soft hand. He fits neatly in the palm and their clawed thumb curls over him to make sure he won't escape - or fall to his death. Well, at least death by fall didn't seem to be on the table, that eliminated one out of the hundred other possibilities Virgil could think of.
"Awee… poor little thing," The monster coos from above him, carefully taking the leaf away from him, leaving Virgil with nothing but his favourite hoodie and little bag to shield him from the creature's bright green slit-pupiled eyes that seemed to rake over him. "You don't have an owner, do you? I don't think I recognise you…"
Virgil stares wide eyed up at the monster who was talking to him so sweetly. He doesn't understand what she's talking about. An owner? What the hell was that supposed to mean? He barely even registers that she’s walking as he tries to puzzle out what she was saying. She's holding him in such a way that he can barely even feel it, not being jostled at all.
"I'm gonna guess that's a no, sweetie," She purrs, the fluffy ears atop her head twitching as she follows what seems to be a path that Virgil can't see. She looks almost like… a cat? But huge of course, and half-humanoid. She doesn't look anything like the monsters that had been described to him by the older members of his village so often. She wasn't even overly scary, when Virgil forces himself to actually look at her.
"I- I don't think so?" Virigl says weakly, figuring she’ll actually want an answer, and maybe if he co-operates he’ll be left alive longer. Her ear flicks. Virgil has no idea if that's a good thing or not. He flinches anyway.
"That's okay!" She says. "You're lucky I know the guy who runs the store - don't worry little guy, we'll find you a home in no time, you're a cutie - if I didn't already have two humans of my own maybe I'd keep you!"
Virgil stares in shock as she speaks. What was that supposed to mean? What store was she talking about? She wants to house him? What the hell is going on, the monsters are supposed to be scary and - well- monstrous! But she wasn't even pressing hard with the finger that was keeping him in place on her hand! It was actually pretty - gentle.
It doesn't make any sense, but Virgil doesn't want to be punished or some other crap for asking too many questions, so he just clutches his bag to his chest and waits for them to arrive at whatever destination this cat-woman-giant has in mind for him. It feels weird to call her a monster in his head when she hasn't actually done anything to indicate that she's going to hurt him. Virgil wasn't going to let himself believe that extended to all monsters, though.
Slowly, the trees start to thin out around them and the grass down below transitions into giant cobblestones. He isn't able to look around and get his bearings though before he's brought into a bright, cool building.
Things happen in a whirlwind from there. The cat-lady talks to another monster too quickly for Virgil to keep up, disoriented and trying to keep his panic from devolving into a full attack as he hears words like 'food' and 'others' and 'home', he doesn't know what it all means, but soon enough he's being dropped into… What could maybe be described as a house?
No, that isn't right, even though he was dropped onto what seemed like a couch. The sides of the… cage are glass, and the top was open. Virgil can see all around the huge room he was in from here, where there are various shelves and tables packed with human sized items. Clothes, furniture, food, various other items that Virgil would never have expected to see in a place supposedly full of monsters. His cage is on a table in the middle of the room, and there's another one next to them too, though it looks to be empty.
The floor in their cage is wooden, and there's all sorts of human sized furniture littered around. It reminds him a little of a hamster cage, just less.. messy. There is a small enclosed space in the corner with - from what Virgil could see - little beds inside. He had been dropped gently onto one of a multitude of sofas covered in blankets that were arranged in a semicircle. The middle of the cage is taken up by a large dining table with a collection of chairs around it and a few small tables with what seemed like board games atop them dotted around the rest of the space. There's even a selection of cabinets up against the wall of the bedroom.
Not only all that, but there are other humans here too.
What the fuck? Virgil thinks, as he looks around.
"Oh hey!" Someone says brightly from far too close, making Virgil flinch, "New guy!"
Multiple heads turn towards him from around the room, he thinks there might be four others? At least that he could see, and one of them had walked over to him without him noticing while he'd been focusing on taking in his surroundings.
Now that attention had been drawn entirely to him, the others in this weird little room start coming over too, two of them abandoning a game they'd been playing on one of the tables across the room and another pausing in what looked like drawing to get up. Virgil shrinks back into his hoodie as far as he can, pulling the garment closer around himself.
"You got a name, newbie?" One of them asks, crouching in front of him.
"Um," Virgil starts, eyes darting rapidly between them all, "Virgil?"
"Awesome!" The one who had asked his name says with a bright smile, "Lemme guess, you're one of the humans brought back by the hunters, right?"
Virgil just stares blankly.
"At least one of us would've seen him before if he was lost, right?" Says one of the others, tilting her head. The first human nods.
"Well - since you're new here, we can give you the tour!"
Virgil is encouraged up off the sofa and quickly shown all around their somewhat small cage, The humans tell him that they get food three times a day and there’s a constant supply of water from a little fountain in the corner where they fill up cups. He's shown the sleeping quarters and the… nest… that would be his. It's less of a bed like he’d thought and more of a circle of plush pillows and blankets, which is… strange, but he can’t deny it looks incredibly cozy. Next to the nest was already a little pile of items that are clearly meant for him. It seems they're all colour co-ordinated and he'd been lucky enough to get purple. Or maybe they'd just given him the purple one because of his hoodie.
Still, the thick purple blanket in the pile is comfortable enough to make him smile softly as he wraps it tightly around his shoulders, and the hygiene products and spare clothes are considerate enough of the monsters to provide for him that the amount of questions he has are really racking up.
The others leave him alone to settle in after that and, while he hadn't intended to, he quickly finds himself falling asleep almost immediately after curling up in the extremely comfortable nest with his blanket.
Who knew walking all day, sleeping in a tree and then being kidnapped by something you thought was a monster would be so tiring?
A few days pass before something overly eventful happens, and Virgil can't deny that he spent most of his time in the cage hiding in his nest. He was too anxious to come out, especially when the room they were in was seemingly populated by at least one of the monsters at all times, if not more.
The other humans were taking turns bringing him in meals, which seemed to mostly just be tiny chunks cut from the monster's giant foods. That was fine too. The food itself seemed to be similar to what he was used to, just… bigger. Which was fine. Virgil doesn't like change, but at least the food is familiar in taste.
He learns too that their captors aren't monsters, they’re called hybrids. And that generally, they don't intend to hurt humans - especially not here, if he was to trust the other humans in his cage. Though Virgil has a little bit of a hard time believing that when he's locked in what was essentially a glass box, even if it is a nice, furnished one. Apparently, the hybrids actually love them. Virgil… still isn't sure just how much he believes all of that, but from the few hybrids who had come in he could see why they were called that, at least.
One of the humans was taken by a hybrid the day after Virgil arrived. According to the others, they had just gotten lost and their hybrid had come to collect them. Which, sure, Virgil supposes this is his life now, that was fine. At least he's mostly comfortable and is being left alone. He’s a bit worried about that other human who'd been taken - what would they do to her wherever they took her? No amount of reassurance can quell the anxiety in his chest.
On the third day of his captivity, Virgil’s finally persuaded by the others to come out of the bedroom. He brings a few of his blankets with him and curls up on the couch instead, unwilling to do more than that. It's progress and they seem to accept that, at least, even though he refuses to move from there now instead.
That’s where he’s still sitting when they come in.
The shop isn't all that busy today, with only a few hybrids coming in every now and again if that. Before today, Virgil hadn't paid much attention to the hybrids who came in - it was hard to, when he was hiding and couldn't see them - but this time he does. It was as if they were magnetic, and honestly Virgil can't deny that the two who had come in just now are extremely eye-catching.
They're huge, just like all of the others. one of them is very clearly a snake, with a large snake tail instead of legs covered in beautiful golden scales that spread from the snake tail all the way up to his face on one side, there's a hat on his head and he has long golden-brown hair that was currently neatly tied up with a ribbon - beautiful, Virgil thinks, before forcefully reminding himself that these are monsters.
The other is similarly scaled, though his were a deep red in colour, and the wings on his back and horns on his head made Virgil think 'dragon' rather than snake. Still, even from here Virgil can make our sharp fangs and taloned fingers. Dangerous.
He really tries not to eavesdrop, but it's a little difficult when their voices are so loud. Virgil can hear them from across the store talking with each other as they walk around. He can't make out every word, but from what he did hear, he can only assume they're here to shop.
"Are you sure you'll be okay with this?" Virgil hears one of them say. They’ve lowered their voices, but they've also come a little closer. He wonders what they’re talking about.
"Yes love," The other says, just as softly, "I think so - we've talked about this."
"We have." Virgil was pretty sure that voice belongs to the snake. "You know I just worry."
"I know you do, it's okay," The other smiles as they reach the cage Virgil is in, he quickly looks away, hoping not to catch their attention, "Oh they're so cute!"
Because he looks away, though, Virgil barely has a chance to comprehend what was about to happen before a large hand closes around him, lifting him and his blankets up from the sofa. He yelps, thrashing a little on instinct to try and get out of the too-tight grip.
"Careful, darling," The snake hisses gently, and the grip loosens a little, enough for Virgil to breath even though he still barely could through the panic "They're fragile when we're this big, remember?"
"Right, right," The dragon says, loosening his grip until he was holding Virgil much more gently, "Shhh- it's okay, we're not going to hurt you-"
Still in the throes of a panic attack, Virgil tries again to lash out, his foot connecting with the hybrid's hand. It does nothing but make the snake chuckle.
"You've picked up a feisty one there," The snake laughs, "I like him."
"He's so cute!" The dragon practically squeals, making Virgil startle yet again, "Oh oh oh- it's okay, little one, I don’t mean to be so loud-"
The dragon starts to ever so gently run his thumb over Virgil's chest, up and down like he's petting him. Virgil is surprised to find the action so calming, and quickly he finds his breaths following the gentle strokes.
"There you go, little one," The dragon coos softly, continuing the petting motion as he looks over at the other, who simply looks on fondly.
"I'm not going to be able to persuade you to even look at the others, am I?"
"Nope" The dragon says, grinning, "Why would I? He's perfect!"
The snake laughs, "I do admit, he's lovely -"
"Then we'll take him!" The dragon says brightly.
Virgil isn't sure where exactly he’s being taken, but he's placed gently back into the cage onto the sofa with his blankets, where he rushes to gather up all of his blankets and things. If he's going somewhere, there is absolutely no way he’s leaving without them.
The two of them come back quickly enough, followed by a third hybrid who once again grabs him out of the cage, bundle of blankets and all. They're all gentle as he’s placed in a little tray - so that they can carry him safely, he presumes.
"You two just need to sign here and he's all yours," the one behind the counter says, pushing giant paperwork towards the two of the hybrids. The snake starts signing the papers while the dragon continues to look at him - he seems so fond already, Virgil doesn't know what to think. He'd only just gotten used to this place even the tiniest bit - and now they were moving him again? Leaving him with these two hybrids to do who knows what to him?
"And would you like our human care package?" The hybrid says, grinning, "It's just a set of essentials, for hybrids who haven't had a human in their care before."
From what Virgil can see when he tries to crane his neck, the hybrid was just offering them a selection of tiny bags, he has no idea what would be inside.
"Do you have a colour preference, little one?" The snake asks him, making Virgil startle once more.
"I- um-" He says - or, more realistically, squeaks - before gesturing to the purple blanket he was clutching for dear life. The hybrid nods in understanding, and takes the little purple bag to place it down beside Virgil. He quickly checks to make sure they aren't watching him before peeking inside. The same hygiene products they'd given him in the cage, another blanket and some snacks. That… makes sense, he supposes.
"You'll have to give us something for those blankets too, if you're wanting to let him keep them," The shopkeeper says, seemingly a little annoyed that Virgil’s taken them. He winces, curling in on himself and holding the blanket tightly. He knew they could easily take it away from him, they were so much bigger and stronger, but he just wants this one thing-
"That's alright," The snake says, "We can compensate you for that."
And with that, it's… done? Virgil, his blankets and the bag are all taken by the dragon, and suddenly Virgil once more finds himself in an entirely new, and entirely unfamiliar space. They gave him another cage - except this time it wasn't, they told him it was a terrarium, similar to a little house mixed with the cage he had just been in. It has more privacy and he can leave this one, though. That's the main difference.
The two hybrids introduce themselves once they'd arrived back to what Virgil could only assume was their home and he does the same.
Janus and Roman are their names, Janus is the snake, Roman is the dragon. He introduces himself in turn and they seem… delighted that he even talked. It's almost.. cute? Virgil can almost see now why the other humans seem to like them.
Despite the pair's kindness, though, Virgil is still terrified. Everything beyond his new terrarium is so big, how is he ever supposed to be comfortable here?
The two hybrids seem to catch on pretty quickly, if Roman's offered hand and gentle tone are anything to go by.
He gets lifted, once he's eventually coaxed into taking it, and just like before when they had been back in the shop, Roman is gently cooing and petting him as they walk around the giant house, his gentle fingers petting Virgil's hair and chest while he whispers gentle, soothing comfort. Surprisingly - to Virgil at least - it's actually starting to work. He finds himself relaxing under the gentle touches. Briefly, Virgil notices Janus watching them with a smile before he is very abruptly distracted.
Virgil lets out a surprised squeak, face going red as he feels Roman's finger dip between his legs. He immediately curls up, surprised, only for the motion to end up giving him more friction where Roman's finger hasn't moved. He feels his face grow red when he realises he was actually aroused by that - it must've been an accident, right? He shouldn't be turned on by that. When he chances a glance upwards it seems Roman is just as shocked as he is. Distantly, he hears Janus chuckle and stand when he notices what had happened, quickly making his way over to the two of them.
"Oh darling - did you forget what sensitive little things humans are?" Janus purrs, gently running his finger over Virgil's hair. Okay, so he was going to die by fluster. He sees how it is.
Roman squeaks, "I didn't mean to- I'm sorry little thing-"
"It- it's okay-" Virgil says, mortified at the sound he makes when Roman pulls his finger away - accidentally grazing him in the process. Virgil is definitely hard now, to his dismay
"Roman honey, you're torturing the poor thing," Janus says, feigning upset as he rubs Roman's arm - for comfort, Virgil can only guess, "You know humans have such high libidos, the poor dear is probably moments away from begging for you."
Virgil's blush intensifies to the point where he's worried about his face being set aflame, but he can't do anything to hide it from the pair of hybrids who are looking down at him with varying smiles on their faces.
"How about I make it up to you?" Roman offers to Virgil with a small but suggestive smirk once he's seemingly calmed down just a little. Enough at least that he goes back to the gentle petting he had been doing before, though now it did nothing but make Virgil squirm. He feels so flustered - and just those gentle touches really did make him want to start begging for - something.
"How do you feel about that, my dear Virgil?" Janus hums, saying Virgil's name like it was the sweetest word he'd ever uttered, "Would you like Roman to make it up to you? Your call, darling. You're allowed to say no."
They clearly don't want him to say no, but with the option there, Virgil felt all the more reassured in the fact that he desperately wants to say yes.
He nods his head quickly, "Um- Yes- yes please-" he squeaked, more than a little embarrassed.
Janus grins, though Roman's smile is far softer. Much more gentle as he puts the tiniest bit more pressure into his touches as he starts gently rubbing over Virgil's body, smoothing the pads of his fingers over his chest and stomach.
He whines a little as he feels Roman pet him through his clothes, the thought popping into his mind of how nice it would feel without them on, which he quickly banishes for now lest he get even more flustered.
The sensual touches quickly devolve when Roman runs his finger between Virgil's legs again suddenly, making him cry out in surprise and pleasure at the sensation. Clearly pleased by Virgil's reaction, Roman keeps touching there, rubbing the pad of his thumb over the noticeable bulge in Virgil's pants, gently pulling his finger back and forth between his legs and cooing softly.
"That's it darling, doesn't that feel good?" Roman purrs as Virgil's hips move against Roman's finger without his say-so. Virgil forces himself to stop trying to grind against him with an embarrassing squeak, "It's okay, little one, you can move as much as you like, whatever makes you feel best sweetie…"
Even with permission, Virgil is still embarrassed to find himself humping against Roman's finger. Biting his lip to hold back moans and whimpers of pleasure.
Distantly, he wonders if this was weird, though he quickly decides he doesn't actually care, it feels good, that's all that really matters right now. He tries to block out every other anxious thought and instead focuses on enjoying himself like the two hybrids clearly want him to.
Roman hums happily as he continues to gently rub his fingers over him, almost purring - or maybe he is purring - as he listens to Virgil's soft, cut off moaning and panting. He's very quickly brought closer to an orgasm by just the touches. He wonders if it was his inexperience, or the new situation, but he was sure he should've been able to last longer.
He can't help but cry out when Roman's petting pushes him over the edge, moaning as he comes in his pants. Carefully, Roman rubs him through his orgasm before shifting back to the gentle, soothing pets he had been doing to begin with.
"There you go, sweet thing," Roman tells him softly, "Doesn't that feel better?"
Virgil whines, his face red from embarrassment. He had really just come in his pants, from some petting? For fucks sake - he hasn't even known these two hybrids for a day! But… then again, he can't deny that it had felt good. He ended up nodding slowly. Both hybrids immediately started beaming.
"We'll leave you alone to get clean and settled," Janus tells him gently as Roman carries him back towards his terrarium, "Just call for us if you need us, okay?"
Virgil nods again, settling a little more into Roman's hand despite the discomfort of the mess he'd made of himself. He finds himself… actually relaxing properly for the first time since he'd been taken. Maybe he really can get used to this…
