Francine: biting her nails. it's kind of a two-way street between being some kind of coping mechanism or some unconscious way of distracting herself. Muffy would foam at the mouth once she saw what francine's done to the manicures she'd give her.

muffy: Overspending, she splurges like every other day. Her parents are kinda weird about it-they let her shop with reckless abandon but their jaws drop to the floor the moment they look over her credit card bills lol.

fern: probably overthinking. Fern's somewhat self-conscious of her surroundings and other people's opinions of her so she tends to do it way too much.

Arthur: also hates D.W. so he basically supports anyone but her. Also had long-standing feelings for buster once, but relatively got over it (in other words "forced himself to") because he knows how jane operates.

Arthur: he's angry 24/7 and is genuinely sick of being angry, but that's pretty much the only way he's able to express his emotions and humanity at this point besides basically using that as an excuse to be a jerk to others and gassing himself up. his ego's just blocking him from relieving himself of being locked in years of so much misplaced rage and inner turmoil. Anytime there's a positive (that doesn't exactly include getting his way) he's instantly and unnecessarily negative. Anytime D.W.'s in the picture or even simply mentioned by someone he immediately flips his shit.

Francine: definitely combative at times to the chagrin of others around her, but she's been working on mellowing out and growing as a person to avoid becoming a female arthur.

Muffy: being a bitch is her middle name LOL. Her excuse for her behaviour works in three ways in that it's how she was raised (thanks to her parents spoiling her), she feels like she can't exactly help that she acts the way she does (even though she can) and the fact its also a coping mechanism. 

D.W.: kind of a mix of everything. D.W. most of the time is chill and very nice + mostly keeps to herself but she still struggles with controlling her emotions at times because of her BPD so she's prone to outbursts and becomes very evasive whenever things go sideways for her.

Kate: Is sadly often neurotic as fuck because she cannot catch a break. so much inner conflict, the pressures of college and jane and david breathing down her neck all the time has her stressed asf so unfortunately there's no room for her to just chill out.

Ladonna: complete and utter happiness-she can't go through a difficult situation without trying to lighten the mood with a stupid joke because if she doesn't, it'll break her. Ladonna wants to make others happy/make a shitty day they're having a little brighter with not a ton of regard for herself. rawdogs through life's toughest moments while trying to look on the bright side.

Muffy: basically started acting like a complete asshole to the people around her to cope with the fact that her life was crumbling. Her father's company going under, the dissolution of her parents' marriage and her friends progressively drifting away from her because they were sick of her shit have all left her spiralling, so taking it out on others was her way of coping with all the severe emotional distress she was under even if it was to the disadvantage of her already deteriorating relationships. 

Arthur: Begins to suffer psychologically in the middle of trying to adapt to all the immense pressure of being the "perfect child". Arthur gasses himself up a lot and puts down his friends while suffering internally; he's grown to feel caged in, dissatisfied and somewhat lost in the middle of seeking and maintaining jane and david's approval/attention and deep down believes that he's actually extremely flawed beneath his ego. He's struggled to hold a lot of his inner turmoil against his parents because he doesnt want to bite the hand that fed him so hes grown to deeply resent D.W. because of her freedom from their family's conformity through their abuse towards her and the fact that she literally does nothing with it other than being depressed and "wasting" it with her suicide attempts (as he believes). so he lashes out at D.W. a ton because he's jealous/unfairly angry at her + its a way of shielding himself from fully admitting the fact that he's an asshole, jane and david are shitty people and his life honestly sucks because of them.

Kate: like arthur, also suffers from being the perfect child. Jane and david basically watching over her like vultures has effectively left her paranoid and afraid of the idea of actually growing up like other teenagers, and her friendship to mei-lin kind of suffers because of it. Pal's eventual death after the fact was also a point where like arthur she never truly recovered-she began to feel even more alone and isolated in her own world, bringing her burgeoning hatred and resentment towards jane and david to newer heights.

D.W.: mental health had been completely and utterly destroyed at the time-she was literally at rock bottom. When the abuse got too much D.W. would begin to have like a ton of intense emotional outbursts/crying spells and habits of spiralling pretty badly to the point where she actually did go through with taking her life at one point but ended up in a psychiatric facility for a while after surviving (was found by kate). Abuse got even worse behind closed doors after jane had to do a ton of lying to CPS once they closed in and tried to look into what was happening. The combo of antidepressants and emotional eating made her gain weight significantly and that left her a target of fat shaming from the people around her. Jane withholds visits to a therapist she was hooked up while lying to them that D.W. was stable enough to not need their services anymore with so she had literally no one to talk to.
 
Sofia: when david SA'd her. david used to be the parent she was the closest to since he at least made some conscious effort to reciprocate her love unlike jane. That horrible night and jane and david's treatment of her after the fact has left her deeply scarred + destroyed her perception of men, humanity and even her own life in general; david started to completely ignore sofia and jane immediately just blamed her and forced her to suck it up once sofia finally managed to confide in her about what happened not that long after. Jane has also taken to quietly sabotage sofia out of spite/revenge by constantly criticizing her weight leading sofia to starve herself out of panic + as a form of SH. for jane watching sofia slowly yet completely implode right in front of her in the name of "advice" made her feel better about the whole thing-she considers sofia's instability as karma for "taking david away from her." It's just a fucked up depressing situation.
 
Savannah: savannah's always been kind of a problem child but I think as soon as jane and david's neglect has fully sunk in as she got older she just got worse and worse. She was thoroughly bullied in school growing up with no one by her side (the scorn of being a bastard child being thrown her way didn't help) and literally everyone in the family was already very sick of her shit/her existence from the jump so she easily became their second biggest target adjacent to Jane. Savannah usually gets a kick out of starting shit every chance she got not only because the attention was her drug, the only way she could process a lot of the low self-worth and loneliness all the neglect and bullying came with was letting others feel her pain.

Francine: probably when catherine was preparing to move for college. Nonstop conflict between muffy and arthur left her struggling and francine would fight with catherine a lot because not only was literally everything left her under immense distress she didn't want to see her sister walking out on her esp during a very vulnerable point in her life. Catherine would be just as pissed off by francine's attitude but once she realizes why francine was lashing out so much she tries to comfort her-she makes sure francine knows that she and their parents will always love and be there for her and she doesn't need to fight to have someone to talk to + cope with her problems.

Fern: like D.W. she's right there with struggling with issues with her mental health. She struggled with periods of depression a ton (be it low or high-grade) and had a tendency of self-isolating from everyone. silver lining of it was that she had sue ellen (who's like a good constant in her life), george and her parents as he support system, but tries to keep most of her problems to herself because she doesn't want to burden anyone with them.

D.W.: even though she definitely keeps up her walls most of the time, she wants genuine acceptance and is deeply terrified that someday the people who care about her will completely desert/disown her like everyone else before then. Being born and raised in an environment where you're constantly fed the idea that you're unimportant no matter how hard you try to do what you can to remedy it can give you that connotation.

Sofia: she wants love, but she's unhealthily addicted to it and will do anything she can to attain it even if it means literally destroying herself + letting other people she's interested in abuse and dehumanize her for it because she has zero self-respect and uses the abuse as another form of selfharm. 

Savannah: her addiction to cocaine is a secret she's very quick to deny up and down but her erratic behaviour, the twitching and the way she constantly rubs at her nose kinda has the picture painted for everyone who cares to know whats really up. It doesn't help that she's already the laughingstock of the family so she's more than prone to having jokes made about it at her expense, much to her rage.

arthur: wholeheartedly believes that he's the king of the universe and can do no wrong but a part of him also believes that that isn't good enough. jane and david's pressure has it conditioned within arthur to believe that he's supposed to be the perfect child no matter what, but he also feels like he isn't perfect enough which is something he's deeply unable to handle. Has a lot of inner turmoil he doesn't know how to process or understand without making sure that other people (especially D.W.) are taking the brunt of his anger and inner pain.

muffy: Crosswire Motors is actually a huge money laundering scheme (with a very toxic workplace environment) which explains the crosswire family's wealth. Muffy has grown to become sadly aware of what's really going on in the grand scheme of things even though millicent tries really hard to make sure shes fully kept in the dark because she doesn't want the truth to taint muffy (and chip's) view of ed. Has a hard time actually holding Ed accountable to the point where she quietly/casually pretends that the scandal doesnt exist bc she deeply loves her parents and doesnt want to hate them.

Jane: three of the read children are actually illegitimate. Once the honeymoon phase with david has fully rolled its course and a ton of newfound friction and resentment between the two came to roost because of jane and her issues, jane ended up continuing her habit of sleeping around with random guys which resulted in savannah's and the twins' births. David is actually aware and has all but relatively stopped holding the whole thing against her since their marriage and respect for each other was already as good as dead by that point.

David: has a crush on Ratburn. Grew to rediscover his feelings for him by the time his marriage to jane had stagnated, but feels like it's way too late to act on it because david feels that ratburn deserves so much better than him + ratburn's marriage to Patrick.

Arthur: dude will be a loser with a big fat glaring L lmao.  Had a shotgun marriage with francine somewhere down the line and eventually moved out of the read house, but still comes back every now and then to get away from francine. Has tried becoming a novelist as in canon but his ego, crippling insecurities and inability to take criticism ultimately became his downfall. He's ostracized by his friends because they just couldnt stand him anymore, disowned by his children and now works part-time mopping floors at mcdonalds for a living to pay for alimony and child support. May or may not develop an addiction to alcohol that he'd take to dangerous heights to cope with the fact that his life sucks and is one day away from showing up to work buzzed from losing his job. jane will probably try to give him like a hundred-dollar allowance (the reads have effectively gone somewhat broke down the line) on the side whenever she's able to to help relieve him of his debt + cover his living expenses, but between the fact that he's forced to put all of that towards paying francine what he owes, using what little money he has left for himself to support his addiction and the cost of his rent slowly but surely skyrocketing that's not nearly enough. lives in one of those shitty mildew-infested studio apartments 

Sofia: Tragic, the cycle of abuse never ends. sofia would float around and just continue doing her after a while but her already strained relationship with the family will officially deteriorate once she ends up in another abusive relationship with some sociopath, those creepy fake-ass daddy doms or pro-ana guy. She'll get into an argument with jane over him (jane's more concerned about how his image will affect their family's reputation rather than how he actually treats sofia), move out of the house and into his place hoping he'll provide for her emotionally and financially. Cannot catch a break-she spirals pretty badly from a physical and psychological standpoint since most of her identity is so tied up in ingratiating others (especially men) and she wants to do literally anything to please her boyfriend, but deep down she's extremely afraid and completely lost in her search for unconditional love. Her boyfriend's abuse would worsen to the point where he progressively isolates her from the world and even from her job which is pretty much her only means of escapism from her situation at that point. She ultimately doesn't try to better herself for her own good because not only she's a literal slave to self-pity + like jane doesn't believe she's worthy of redemption, she's way too focused on gaslighting herself into believing that she's loved and happy to a very unhealthy extent. Will most likely end up in a vegetative state or murdered at the hands of her boyfriend in like a few weeks, that's just how bad the circumstances are.

Savannah: MIA, but it's bad. she continues going down a very unstable road to self-destruction because not only jane and david's lack of parental guidance left her virtually doomed from the beginning, she's literally in no hurry to actually grow up. The reads have officially cut ties with her because they're tired and embarrassed by her bullshit-that means no more room and board, no more immunity and no more trust fund. she continues her hardcore party girl/junkie lifestyle anyway by living in a cheap apartment downtown with a few other very likeminded people and still trying to chase fame any way she can (she becomes this widely hated Ava Louise/Trisha Paytas-like lolcow online) to repress the uncomfortable feeling of being genuinely lost and unwanted in the world with nothing and no one who actually cares about her to fall back on. They got her into a ton of bad shit thanks to their own lifestyles and savannah continues perpetuating the problem anyway with no regard or dignity for herself. Will definitely end up in jail for petty crimes or assault, but like sofia will also end up as good as dead (from an accidental overdose, seizure or HIV-related complications if she's already immunocompromised) if she continues her addiction. i see potential homelessness and maybe even sex work to support her habit/find some place to sleep in her future if she miraculously survives. Savannah's her own worst enemy either way so even if she's forced into rehab and actually manages to stay clean in the end she'd still live an unhappy life-she'll probably end up sleeping in her car, forced to work as a cashier at some burger king to make ends meet after she and her roommates got evicted (will probably end up fired after stealing food on the few days where she's able to eat) and completely faded into obscurity.

Kate: Will immediately move out of the house and into her college dorm the second she's accepted to try to fully distance herself from her family's insanity, but jane and david still breathing down her neck with reaching out constantly to check in with her grades + progress had her stressing big time. She grows to have deep feelings for buster (who's her professor), but later ends up in a sexual relationship with another professor she's fairly (inappropriately) close with in a spur of the moment decision to cope with buster rejecting her. Once word gets out about the affair kate will force herself to whiteknuckle her way through the gossip to continue studying for her degree in psychology (to the detriment of her mental health) but will eventually drop out once the stigma becomes way too much for her. Will go straight to work in retail and live a more private life to try to escape/heal herself from the severity of her actions but they still continue to haunt her all the time no matter how much she fights to redeem herself. When all else fails kate will probably go off the deep end, quit her job and completely isolate herself from others as this (somewhat) unconscious form of self-punishment, but at least shes free from jane and david (since she's cut literally everyone out of her life).

Muffy: Will probably become a famous vlogger and beauty influencer, but her parents are basically doing the adulting for her by covering the upkeep of her penthouse, car and giving her a monthly allowance. Her brother Chip's a little more mature than she is (he has a well-paying career and a family of his own) which ultimately kinda makes him the golden child in that regard. muffy has seen the way her parents always talk so fondly about chip compared to her whenever she visits and tries to deny it because she feels uncomfortable with actually holding that against them (doing that would mean tainting this perfect view she has of her parents + confronting her issues and somewhat deliberate inability to actually grow up). She and francine actually did become sisters-in-law (i like to think that chip and catherine actually grew closer and got together when they got older) but they don't talk anymore-muffy is definitely very upset and offended that francine's snubbing her but deep down doesn't exactly blame her for not wanting anything to do with her. Another alternate scenario is that Muffy does have the mayor/politician thing going on like in the canon ending, but her newfound maturity and independence are what ultimately stabilize her relationship with her parents and francine.

Francine: has mostly mellowed out but still never really denies retaining some of her competitive + argumentative spirit. She officially divorced Arthur after finding out about his affair and finally accepting from that point onward that it CLEARLY isn't going to work out since they were already arguing a ton + separated and cohabiting for the sake of the kids before the fact. She now lives closer to her parents in a nice home, is much more amicable with catherine, has full custody of her and arthur's children and works as a personal trainer and part-time soccer coach. Cut ties with muffy (was the first to pioneer that idea amongst their female friends) because putting up with arthur's toxicity for so many years was aggravating and eye-opening enough. Is no longer interested in dating after her marriage to arthur effectively crashed and burned but that's because she fears opening her heart to others again. Deep down she genuinely wants to find someone to be good to her and good for her and the kids but also just doesn't want to relive what she went through with arthur so she keeps herself somewhat emotionally guarded when it comes to meeting new people. 

Prunella: like Francine has also mellowed out, but has branched off somewhat from her friends after marrying marina. The two live a quiet life in the countryside, running a small fortune-telling shop and raising like a small amount of farm animals as their kids.

Sue Ellen: living the dream. homegirl will be a constant traveller, is mostly off the grid in that case so her friends kinda have a hard time reaching her. She catalogues her journeys on her blog and youtube channel. Is single but will be kind of a pick-me to an irritating degree if she ever integrates herself into the dating scene. (I just feel like SE would be that girl I'm sorry lmao)

Cora: Just as messed up as Sofia and Savannah's. Still lives with her parents and mooches off them, but became those tone-deaf hunbots/grifters who shill Herbalife (thanks to her mother) in the meantime. She steals timmy tibble away from D.W. but ends up becoming his punching bag in her place. She ends up falling in love with him throughout their situationship and chooses to stay until the end anyway because of this new unforeseen fear of being alone. i can see her probably starting an OF (she's the kind of creator who makes those ads with blatant ragebait/does sexy dances in those lame bottom barrel cosplays) for some financial security and clout/male attention since timmy's way too violent and strung out to give her any like he used to + is also busy using what's left of their funds to support his addiction. Cora's parents have tried to intervene and help, but she keeps blowing them off anyway because she'd rather keep convincing herself that this is happiness D.W. would literally sell her soul for when it really isn't. She ends up deteriorating psychologically-she now spends most of her days googling herself, posing in the mirror for hours and constantly posting these long unhinged stalkerish rants about how D.W. sucks + is an evil person on her socials much to the confusion and concern of anyone who follows her when timmy isn't beating her.

Fern: I FORGOT ABOUT HER LMAO, but fern lives a pretty chill life. She still struggles with depression, but regularly attends therapy + is medicated. She goes on to become a well-known horror writer with george as her colleague while studying for a degree in criminal science. Still lives with her parents and helps her dad with his job on the side.

D.W.: Is doing well for herself and is trying her best not to fall apart. (not going with the canon ending and having her become a cop that's stupid as fuck.) Still has a long way to go before she's completely healed from her trauma, but she pretty much goes on to live some kind of lowkey life-she officially moves out of the read house as soon she's 18 and lives with Aunt Lucy and her husband who take her under their wing. Definitely has nursing school to fall back on (Aunt Lucy pays for her tuition) but works as a bartender as a fun little side hustle. D.W. attends classes and studies like crazy in her free time (in between catching those z's  whenever she could), undergoes extensive therapy + treatment for her trauma and mental illnesses, keeps a small circle of friends from group therapy sessions or her job closer to her and will probably eventually find someone who loves her enough to know that she's loved and is able to actually restore her borderline nonexistent faith in humanity (aka Bud). D.W. graduates, becomes an RN + works at a renowned hospital, gets married to Bud and has two daughters. happy ending (I feel like there will definitely be a lot of resentment towards her from the reads because she managed to get out and live a less problematic life away from them)

D.W.: D.W. is still severely mentally ill + has a lot of trauma but with intensive therapy, treatment and a really good support network she'd become the most stable parent of her siblings. She'd initially become terrified of the thought of becoming a parent because the idea of possibly replicating jane and david's abuse (even if it's accidental) is her greatest fear when it comes to literally anyone she lets in her life. after some more coaching and support she learns to conquer her fears and embrace motherhood over time. The Read family (esp jane's side of the family) has this underlying cycle of abuse + intergenerational trauma so I definitely see her doing whatever she can to break it by raising her child the way she should've been raised. She'd literally move heaven and earth for her child, works to the bone to support them/provide an emotionally stable environment and would not hesitate to go full-on mama bear if they're ever threatened. Might be a bit too overprotective and will coddle her kid a little too much but she only wants them to be happy and safe from all the ugliness of the world. Also would want them to feel comfortable with confiding in her whenever they mess up and will try to handle the matter as understandingly as possible instead of yelling and punishing them. (francine, emily and molly are the fun aunts)

arthur: would 100% be a toxic tiger parent. I can imagine him unconsciously projecting jane and david's academic pressure on him and kate onto his children because he has it conditioned to believe that he's supposed to maintain jane and david's view/image of perfection to the end no matter what. Very strict, controlling and impatient, will absolutely breach his kid's boundaries because he feels that he should have that right since he's the parent. D.W. still lives in his head rent free so naturally he still has a shit ton of hate/resentment of her left over- he might be very prone to neglecting + emotionally abusing his child if he ever discovers them sharing some kind of similarity with D.W. or something be it glaring or completely minor. he'll also be the kind of parent to feel some type of way when his children cut all ties with him as soon as they grow up. 

Kate: May become a helicopter parent. Wants to break the cycle too but that's really for the sake of compensating for her terrible behaviour in the past. Enforces somewhat strict rules, is way too overprotective, oversteps boundaries like arthur, will probably even follow her kid to school to see how they're doing (much to their embarrassment) and kind of doesn't shy away from having her own outbursts whenever she argues with them. She really wants to believe that she only has good intentions/isn't replicating jane and david's abuse when she's actually slowly getting there. she'll eventually grow to realize what she's doing once she notices how emotionally detached her child has become and will hate herself even more for it.

Sofia: somewhat similar to kate but that's putting it loosely. if her ED miraculously doesn't affect her fertility, she'd probably be like Liane Cartman but worse-she'd spoil her child rotten to at least try to satisfy her need of feeling needed by someone but that doesn't mean she'd actually raise them. She'd be very disconnected from actual parenting outside of that and will just allow her home to be this very unsafe environment with her mental health issues, her inability to self-love and this revolving door of creepy men which will severely compromise with her ability to parent consistently. Would also be an absolute boymom to an embarrassing/very disturbing extent. If she had a daughter it'll be one big depressing Precious-esque situation once she gets older-sofia will become very jealous of her and would do whatever it takes to sabotage her from the outside. Will not hesitate to lash out at her, blame her/view her as competition if she discovers or hears about any predatory behaviour from any of the men she brings around and not so subtly pass her ED onto her. Sofia's self-hatred will grow even more upon acknowledging and reflecting on her actions but she continues actively harming her children anyway because she doesn't know how to love outside of seeking it from people who she knows want nothing to do with her. 

Savannah: Will become the absolute worst parent of the Read children if she continues her addiction. Kid will be born with cerebral palsy or FAS but she'll be too invested in her own interests to properly care for them. she'd completely abandon her kid at all hours to find some way to get her fix or support her drug habit, physically abuse them in the middle of her coke rage, openly regret the day she birthed them during a comedown-induced outburst and rely on them to help her out of bed once she regains some level of cognisance from her semicomatose state on top of that. Will most likely end up arrested kicking and screaming and/or have her child taken away by CPS but she'll probably just not care. If she does manage to become sober and stay sober (provided jane and david pull their heads out of their asses and intervene before she spirals any more) she'd still be a terrible parent- she'll continue doing the bare minimum for her kid and take her shitty living situation out on her them until CPS takes them away, or will probably try to vicariously live through whatever success her kid has/find some way to sabotage it out of envy because she still doesn't know how to overcome/confront this unhealthy desire of needing to feel special by others properly. will definitely become Ash Trevino 

francine: The mom you literally cant bullshit ever, but like D.W. (and unlike Arthur) she'll be a listener more than a punisher. Is very supportive and easygoing, loves to brag about her children to others and constantly congratulates them for even the smallest achievements. I also feel like she'll definitely incite them to fight back whenever they get bullied.

Muffy: Not too bad surprisingly, i feel like motherhood would essentially make her more self-sufficient and a little more emotionally mature. she'll definitely still provide materially but will also do whatever she can to support/help her children (even if their interests are unconventional for her liking) and make them happy. Is also kind of a fun parent but a bit too careless with the way she allows them free rein to do whatever they want as long as they don't get in trouble or killed. Will definitely have twins, doesn't believe in favouritism.

Fern: i feel like she'd be a little too permissive to the point where she'd be that one parent who brings their screaming kid to a movie or flight 

Cora: cora's already a womanchild and she and timmy are literally just like chrisean and blueface so those kids are doomed. Very likely scenario is that timmy will probably just beat her into having a miscarriage, but in an alternate scenario where he doesn't cora will also be very detached from parenting with neglecting the kids for the sake of reliving her own youth and clinging onto timmy while he abuses them because she literally has nothing else going for her in life. Maybe she'll finally have some epiphany once the kids are finally taken away by CPS + timmy gets sent to prison and she realizes how her victim complex has made her lose control of her life, but it's hard to fully break through toxic conditioning when you're relying on your abusive situationship to keep you stable through your pain and loneliness. if Cora doesn't end up with Timmy i imagine her becoming a Munchausen parent since she's so addicted to attention and sympathy from others. will definitely incite her kid to bully D.W.'s children because she (like most of the reads) hate seeing her happy with her life while they aren't.

Kate: her relationship with guilt is somewhat complicated. when she was younger she definitely wasn't afraid to cause trouble for D.W. just to fit in with her family outside of being a female arthur to jane and david's name + out of boredom and maybe envy and would also feel bad for mistreating her after the fact but she'd just continue her actions anyway. Once kate got older and finally woke up and smelled the coffee she's grown to deeply regret a lot of her actions but has a hard time actually articulating that remorse without making excuses or sounding condescending.

Jane: jane's problem is that she knows she's a shitty person who does a lot of shitty things for personal gain, a way of coping and basically just out of her genuine inability to love and care for others, but she refuses to change her ways because she feels like she doesn't deserve to become a better person. She continues self-sabotaging anyway while deeply hating herself and a lot of what she's doing. she does expect unconditional forgiveness from someone though just to continue screwing them over with her cruelty because that's pretty much the only way she knows how to interact with other people aside from cheating on david with any random guy that gives her the slightest bit of attention compared to what david gives her. 

Arthur: arthur's sort of adjacent to jane insofar that he knows very well that he actively inconveniences others with his behaviour but refuses to take accountability anyway because his ego refuses to. Arthur definitely struggles with an extreme inferiority complex beneath all this posturing but he's also way too afraid of admitting that he's a shitty person because that would mean breaching this whole "perfect child" conditioning jane and david placed him under. i feel like he'll grow to see D.W. as this walking hallucination of how much of an asshole he knows he is but continues his behaviour anyway to run away from that.

Sofia: sofia is basically jane's mini-me by nature so she couldn't care less about the people she hurts. She's well aware of the fact that she's a terrible person and knows full well that her lack of decency is basically one of the reasons why she gets herself fucked up so often (aside from having her vulnerability taken advantage of by shitty people she opens up to), she just feels a little more comfortable with projecting her insecurities and dysfunction onto others as an outlet rather than actually confronting them at the moment because it makes her feel somewhat secure about how she lives with herself. 

Savannah: doesn't care, doesn't give a shit, womp womp lmao. Savannah is the literal definition of ragebait, every shitty thing she does is either for attention or out of self-interest so she couldn't give a rats ass about the people she messes with and the drama she creates as long as she's entertained or looked at. She's actually very well aware of how hated she is by the people around her but continues fulfilling that to cope with not feeling loved and wanted.

David: I think once david's fully removed from jane's instability he'll become kind of a foil to her in that he'll effectively grow to realize that he's a terrible father and person thanks to her influence. he'll have extreme guilt for molesting sofia (to the point where he contemplates suicide), will regret the fact that his and jane's neglect is why savannah acts the way she does and consider D.W. his second biggest regret (next to meeting jane) because he failed in raising her with love and care. Doesn't really act upon bettering himself after his epiphany because he doesn't believe he deserves his family's forgiveness now + is frankly not in the mood to incur more of jane's wrath. 

May: has the healthiest relationship with guilt, will not hesitate to infract the family's status quo to apologise for any harm she has caused much to their annoyance.

joseph and angie: jane and david never really taught them the concept of remorse (let alone any kind of human decency) so they definitely wouldnt apologize for causing trouble + will rely on jane's karen-like nature to insulate themselves from blame. at the end of the day they're literally just very painfully misguided kids raised in a messed-up environment so I guess once they're also removed from jane's influence (and properly taught from right and wrong + disciplined) there will definitely be room for a ton of growth.

Cora: similar to jane, but unlike her and most of the reads cora doesn't have a freudian excuse-deep down she's knows she's a shitty person but she just refuses to clean up her act because she just isn't interested in doing that. Does whatever she can to ruin someone's day with her manipulation + rancid behavior because her looks and the fact that she uses her parents as this proverbial get-out-of-jail-free card keep her from facing consequences. 

Jessica and Richard (Cora's parents): theyre literally just coras biggest cheerleaders so guilt obviously doesn't apply to them. I think once they have a revelation that cora isn't as saintly as they thought they'll straight up shatter like glass- Jessica would especially take it hard and treat the whole thing as if her whole life was a lie now knowing that she literally created a monster for the sake of having someone in her world to actually relate with. Richard would be just as upset for not being able to put his foot down like he should. Best case scenario is that they'll probably end up quietly distancing themselves from cora (in other words disown her) since punishing her for her misdeeds would be actually hard for them because they've actually never done that before.

Muffy: envy. homegirl is very used to getting her way and getting praised (espeically when her efforts to attain that goal are pretty much low hanging fruit at best) but she also can literally not function when someone else has the spotlight/she has to share it with them. I think she'd definitely has a messed up habit of sabotaging anyone that's one step ahead of her much to the detriment of her interpersonal relationships. Also gets very defensive whenever she's called out for her shitty actions, but would come around to realise the weight of what she's done and apologize even if it hurts her to try to understand that no one is willing to give her any more chances when trying to "buy" her way into their heart isnt going to work.

Sofia: I guess for sofia, it would be that she actually has zero self-esteem + respect. She puts on a very arrogant and toxic persona but also has it conditioned (thanks to jane and her abusive exes) that she will always be disposable/unimportant no matter how hard she tries to make something of herself in life. easily allows anyone she's interested in to walk all over her because her addiction to love not only outweighs conventional negatives, but deep down a part of her also views their mistreatment of her as some form of self-punishment for not being good enough.

Savannah: probably has to be her immaturity. Jane and david have spent her whole life treating her like an afterthought so no guidance or knowledge of the real world has left her proverbially doomed. She's also very well-accustomed to believing that basically acting like a womanchild is not only the key to getting attention but also getting her way and avoiding actual responsibility.

sue ellen: condescension, I just see her kind of struggling with this underlying saviour complex since pretty much posing yourself to be the voice of reason among your assholish friends can get you to that point. SE's generally very nice and kind, but would sometimes tend to act very sanctimoniously to the dismay of others. 

D.W.: Emotional instability and extreme avoidance. her family's abuse has severely impacted her, and due to their lack of guidance she spent her adolescence keeping whatever negative emotion she had bottled out of habit in front of them to avoid being punished. Now that she's mostly out of their radar she won't hesitate to ride the wave of her rage whenever someone would induce it-she's prone to these emotional + violent outbursts and wouldn't hesitate to snap at others/lose sight of whatever's really bothering her. also has this unhealthy habit of immediately abandoning ship whenever things go sideways for her-D.W. would pretty much try doing whatever she can to avoid any personal problems even to the point of letting others take care of it for her. She does fear the idea of being just like her family in how they've treated her all her life + doesn't want to be that one person who only remembers someone's feelings or the weight of her actions when the damage is already done so she's been excessively working on fixing her behaviour and learning from her mistakes to keep herself from going that route. 

Arthur: his ego. dude is very vain and self-obsessed thanks to jane and david spoiling him, but that's mostly just a smokescreen to hide his insecurities.
