Chapter Text
“Yes.” The word rang in his ears as his anticipation turned to joy. The events of the day ran through his mind.
Will's POV
He woke with a small kiss to his cheek, he opened his eyes to see his boyfriend walking out of their bedroom, dressed for work. This had been their routine for a while now, ever since they moved into their new apartment.
Nico gets up, makes a small breakfast, gets dressed for work, kisses Will goodbye, and goes to the Law Firm he works for. Will on the other hand, gets woken up by the kiss and gets up as soon as Nico leaves, makes breakfast, gets dressed, and leaves to run a few errands before going to the hospital for work. Nico gets home first and starts on dinner while sometimes working on a case before Will gets home. When Will does get home, they eat dinner, spend time together, and eventually go to bed.
They had it good, but there was one thing about to change. Will wouldn't be calling Nico his boyfriend anymore, hopefully soon he would be calling him his fiancé. He had been planning on proposing for a few months now, but he was actually going through with it tonight. That was for sure.
He had gone to the Underworld the week before and gotten the blessing of Hades to marry his son, Hazel approved, all that needed to happen was Nico saying ‘yes’.
*Nico POV*
He arrived home from work, and parked the car outside their building. Something was off, Will was already home? He shouldn't have been home for another hour.
He ascended the staircase, thinking of possible reasons why Will would be back this early. He dug out his keys from his mess of a pocket and quietly unlocked the door, he stepped inside his apartment and all was quiet. He walked to the bedroom to find Will on the phone with Hazel. He didn't mean to eavesdrop, but it was his sister…
“-Planning on doing it tonight … Yes, Hazel, I'm nervous! … Yep, I'll tell him you said ‘hi’. … Yep, bye.” Will put the phone down, Nico was about to go back into the living room when he stepped on a squeaky floorboard. Will stopped and turned at the sound, facing the door.
“Babe? You home?” He said walking to the door.
“Yep, just me!” Nico yelled from the living room, which he had fled to after the creak.
Will walked to him and did the normal ‘hello’s’ along with a quick kiss and a hug.
“How long have you been here?” Will asked, seemingly bracing himself for the answer.
“Not even 2 minutes.” Nico replied with a smile.
Will stopped holding his breath and smiled in return. Nico was still confused.
“What are you doing home this early? You aren't supposed to be off of your shift for another hour.”
“I had a co-worker cover for me, we don't get that much time together anymore, so I thought I could take you on a date.” Will said.
“I’d love that.” Nico said, suddenly blushing.
*Will POV*
After a while, they got dressed and hopped in the car. After driving for about 15 minutes, they ended up in old-town. They went to an Italian place down the street and sat down at a table. Will ordered typical lasagna while Nico ordered Bistecca Fiorentina.
“How was work?” Nico asked while they were waiting for their food.
Will took his hand across the table.
“Work is work, there was the daily Karen? An occasional vomit-case, and a ton of overreacting parents. What else is new?” This got some laughter out of both of them. “What about you?”
“Honestly, it's been pretty quiet lately. There was one ‘murder’” Nico did air quotes with his free hand, “which turned out to be a parent who forgot their child was on vacation with their friends in London. People can be very dumb nowadays.”
Will chuckled. The food came and they finished relatively quickly, they split the check (much to Will's disdain.)
The two walked outside, Nico started walking to the car but Will stopped him. He grabbed his hand and gently pulled him in the other direction, Nico raised an eyebrow at the sudden change of plans. Or at least they were sudden to him, Will had been planning this all day.
“Will? Where are we going?”
“It's a surprise, I can't say.”
“You know I hate surprises.” Nico mumbled.
“I know all too well.”
“Was that another Taylor Swift reference?” Nico asked, slightly chuckling.
“Maybe…”
Nico laughed at this. They continued the rest of their walk in silence until they eventually reached the place where Will stopped.
*Nico POV*
They reached a park where Will stopped, Nico recognized the park. It was where they had their first date? When Chiron allowed them out of Camp for the day, Will took them here.
The sun was just starting to set now, he led Nico over to a clearing with nobody nearby. Nico looked over at the setting sun before turning back to Will, who had taken both of his hands in his own.
“Alright, no more secrets. What are we doing here?” He said, looking to his boyfriend with confusion. Will took a deep breath and looked deeply into Nico's eyes.
“I've been thinking. About us, actually. We've been dating for six years now and I love you more everyday. I love waking up to your smile, how you are always there, how caring you are, the sparkle you get in your eyes whenever you look at me. I love every bit of you. I want to grow old with you.”
Nico had started to tear up by now, but refused to let tears fall yet.
“I wanted to ask,” Will let go of Nico's hands and pulled out a small velvet box from his pocket as he knelt down on one knee.
“Nico -you refuse to tell me your middle name- di Angelo,” He opened the box to reveal a golden ring with red stones surrounding a small humble piece of rainbow obsidian. “Will you marry me?”
Nico wiped the tears from his face, which had now started to fall without shame. He looked at the man in front of him, he thought of all they had been through together, Tartarus, wars, fights, but they always got through it. He wiped the tears that had already replaced the last, and nodded.
“Yes. Oh my gods, yes!” He helped Will stand up, and immediately pulled him into a tight hug before pulling away and kissing him. Will broke off the kiss, “It would probably help if you put the ring on.” He said, laughing. Nico spoke his agreement but his hands were shaking so bad, so it took a minute to actually get the ring on.
“I don't know how I didn't see that coming.” He said between laughs infused with hiccups and tears. Will put his hand against his cheek and wiped the mini waterfalls on his face before pulling him in again.
