Letting go

Summary:

Will Nora ever stop running away from her problems? Or she will be stuck in an endless loop?

Work Text:

-I can’t believe I’m running away again- Nora thought as she drove away from The Blue Spruce -Those habits should’ve died out when I was a teenager, with what happened that day on the Abyss. But I realize I’ve been running from my problems for much longer-

-I think I’m also dipping out of my marriage to Melissa, but is it really my fault? We haven’t been on good terms for months now, and neither of us is happy with the other anymore. The worst part is that I’m abandoning Swann- She looked at the rearview mirror and could see her silhouette before disappearing from her view.

-The one who brought so much joy to my summer. I had a bigger connection with her than with Autumn, my literal best friend for a while, or than Kat, who I considered a sister. I love her so much, but I don’t have the strength to face this again-

After driving for some minutes, she noticed a very strange purple butterfly on her dashboard, and when she looked back, she saw a flock of crows with purple eyes flying in the opposite direction.

Her mind was frantic -SWANN- Nora screamed, braking and making a U-turn at full speed to return to the place she escaped from.

She followed the murder of crows at a dangerous speed, reaching her starting point within the minute. The birds mysteriously turned towards the forest, and with that, she knew that Swann would do: head for the Abyss.

Nora parked her car as quickly as she could, almost crashing it in the process. She opened the door and ran like she’d never done before, towards her beloved. She knew the way, even though the shadow birds were guiding her; she’d been around this forest for a month with Bloom and Rage.

When she arrived, Nora could see Swann’s silhouette very close to the precipice, until she saw how the body started to fall.

She doesn’t know how, but at one point, Nora was two hundred meters away from Swann, and at the next second, she was holding her hand, to prevent the Abyss from consuming her.

-¡Swann, what the fuck are you doing?!- Nora screamed, grabbing one of Swann’s arms with all her strength -Why would you want to jump into the Abyss?!-

-Nora… I thought I’d never see you again- Swann said, her voice thick with exhaustion -Kat called me. She’s trapped and needs my help to escape-

-What if it doesn’t work? What if I lose you and our beautiful memories together? What will I do with that?- Tears flowed freely from Nora’s eyes, falling from her face into the Abyss, where they disappeared.

-I’ll be back, trust me. When I get Kat back, we’ll both be together, Bloom and Rage too, and when that’s over, we’ll get married, wearing the dresses of your design and we’ll be happy- Swann just smiled, with an absolute calm that was borderline creepy -I love you, Nora-

-I love you too, a lot- And just like that, everything went black.

Notes:

If another idea surges for a continuation, I'll add it. But for now, this will stay as a one-shot.
