Total Drama: Behind the Scenes

Summary:

Everyone knows everything video taped on Wawanakwa and Total Drama as a whole is played for drama. But the losers are given some levity with no cameras on them. What goes on behind the scenes of the show? What feelings are true, and which are fabricated? And will some of the contestants be able to maintain relationships before the cameras come back on?

Chapter 1: Loser One: Eva

Chapter Text

It had been around midnight by the time Eva arrived to her new residence. Her fury from being eliminated was still high, but still calm enough to leave the dock without punching Chef. The burly man had nothing to say but a huff as he turned the boat around. She glared as the motorboat got farther away with each passing minute. It seemed as if she wouldn't be missed by anyone. She'll be stuck alone for three days while everyone gets to soak up the opportunity to hog 100,000 dollars. That annoying CIT, or whatever the hell that girl calls herself, gets a better chance than her. That sexist gremlin Ezekiel gets a better chance than her. Somehow the ditzy Katie and Sadie are deemed better than her. She could feel her anger start to bubble once more, ready to punch something into oblivion.

"Easy Angel," Eva could hear her father's voice in her head with his firm but gentle voice, "Emotions are a drive but they blind you. Breathe and keep walking." So Eva did exactly that. She took the deepest breath she could and turned around. The size and beauty of the loser's "cabin" almost took the breath out of her.

The building was over three stories tall, with the second floor opening to a balcony with lawn chairs and a paved pathway leading around the resort. The docks branched to three wings, with beach chairs lining two of them and small sail boats tied to the final wing. A giant staircase led to the main entrance of the resort, which Eva opened to a vast space of tall winding hallways and vacant oversized rooms. Even the living room was twice as tall as the normal bedrooms. There seemed to be no one walking around the property despite all of the lights being on. She should've expected this. She is the first of all losers, doomed to spend the next three days completely alone until someone would be stuck with her.

Then again, she was the example of a loser to everyone that comes after. She is the "worst" of all of them. The knowledge of the first booted implied made her stomach drop and heart twinge in pain.

She's really alone, isn't she?

"Hello? Is anyone there?" A female voice called out from the hallways. Eva was surprised to see a skinny older teen with baggy pants and a thin plain t-shirt approach with fresh towels. The intern blinked upon seeing the teenager and gave a friendly smile.

"Oh hi. You must be one of the contestants."

"That is right. What the hell is this place?" Eva asked. Her question must have come off as a demand rather than anything else from the look on the intern's face. It is not her fault that the sleep challenge made her too tired to retry her tone.

"This is the Playa de Losers. Where all of you will be staying once you are out of the competition." The intern responded while piling the towels away.

"What does that mean?" Eva asked again while keeping her tone quiet enough to be approached.

"The uh...Loser's Beach, I believe? Not my pick of a location name, but what can you do except suck it up. I'm Molly by the way." Molly offered her hand as she introduced her name. Eva saw the hand but felt awkward as she reached for it. This was so weird. Why was this girl here at the place where losers are meant to be? Where SHE was meant to be? God, she felt the anger seep through again and she clasped the hand aggressively. Eva squeezed with more force than intended and quickly let go of the girl's hand before damage was made.

"Sorry. I'm not really in the mood right now." She said in a quiet tone.

"I get it. No one really wants to be here after losing 100,000 dollars. Let me introduce you to your room. You must be tired." Molly waved off her hand and started to walk through the hallways.

"You have no fucking idea." Eva muttered letting the curse slip out.

Compared to the rest of the resort, the hallways and bedrooms were relatively plain with each room being a calm light blue. The only furniture in the rooms were two twin sized beds on the opposite side, with a closet in the left corner and a desk with a lamp separating the space between furniture.

"Sorry it is not resort material. There's only so much we can do on our budget." Molly apologized.

"It is enough where I can sleep." Eva shrugged.

"Great. Just so you know, I will be here at the resort during non-challenge days so if you need anything, I will be there. The master bathrooms will be around the corner after all of the bedrooms, and the morning buffet will start at seven in the morning. Your personal luggage will be dropped off here around that time too." Molly explained as Eva took off her shoes.

"Cool I guess." The brute girl sighed as she subconsciously messed with the sheets. As much as the intern girl was being polite, Eva really wanted to get some sleep. She has already been awake for almost four days, and she was starting to see dots in her vision.

"And one more thing." Molly said as she slowly closed the door.

"Oh my god, what?" Eva asked in a drone voice, not even bothering to hide the annoyance in her tone. Molly simply smiled which caught her off guard. The others would have been intimidated by now.

"There is a special gymnasium down in the basement along with a indoor pool. It's really for staff and interns like me only, but none of us are likely using it. So if you want to vent out anything, I have the key. Okay?"

Eva felt shocked by the sudden offer and only nodded as the bedroom door closed with a satisfying click. Perhaps it was the sleep deprivation kicking in, but she felt touched by the offer. She normally would have to raise her voice in order for anyone to take her seriously. God she really needed that sleep. Without another word, she shuffled in the bed sheets are the tiredness took over her faster than it ever did in her life. She'll worry about the loss in the morning, and at least she'll have someone to vent to.

Notes:

I kind of wondered how the teenagers first reacted when they got to the Playa de Losers. The show had that one episode in Season 1, but this will explore the dynamics of the other characters outside of the show. Including development that the cameras are unable to capture. Eva's chapter is considerably small just because it is so late at night that all she really wants to do is sleep. She did stay up for almost four nights after all. But she will have more thoughts once she gets some proper shut eye.

As for the intern Molly, I did base her design off of the scrapped design for Zoey in the original Revenge of the Island. But her personality is made by me. Even though she will not be a prominent character, her interactions with the contestants is going to continue to grow as the story unfolds. The dynamics between those that don't know what happens in the show to the ones who help with it is bound to be interesting.
