Chapter Text
Marcy Regina Luthor Wu is (sometimes, and only sometimes) glad that people seem to forget that she was adopted by the Luthor's at age 4, and that she has a whole other actual last name.
When she was still a kid and she was on her own out and about, she introduced herself with her own last name. It was important to her, to still maintain a piece of her from a life before the Luthor's.
As she kept growing up though, she was less and less left on her own. She was always around Lilian, Lex, or Lionel. Sometimes all three, and that meant the formal introductions of "The Luthor Family", "Mr. and Mrs. Luthor and their young kids". When she first got to them she was the talk of the town for being adopted, but at a certain point it seemed like people forgot about it and started lumping her in with them.
It was... fine, for a while. A family as rich as the Luthor's is obviously going to raise eyebrows when mentioned, and that meant that even if she got all the money in the world, she would always be in the shadow of her family. But Marcy didn't mind. She was smart, smart and quiet enough that Lionel and Lilian were happy to leave her be, letting her keep to herself to read or play her videogames. And Lex welcomed her with open arms.
He was the best older brother she could have ever asked for. They played chess and videogames together. He took her to Luthor Corp's lab so she could do experiments, let her help with equations and calculations needed for company things. Lex was her rock, and even when he went to college he tried to be there for her.
She was a lonely child, until she met Anne. Lex was away for school, and as always she kept to herself, until Anne literally came crashing into her life.
Now, she didn't exactly lie to her on their first meeting. As it was established, her last name is still Wu. She just... has another one. That she didn't mention. But it's fine, it was fine.
Until it wasn't. Until Lex went insane and bombed a bunch of people to prove a point about the alien saving lives. Until her parents tried to do damage control hard and fast, including dealing with Marcy herself.
And so, Marcy gets shipped to a boarding-school on the other side of the fucking world with not even a moments notice.
She manages to send Anne a last quick text, before they take her phone away to switch if for another.
"Anne, somethign happened with my brother. my parents are sednign me to another school and changing my numer but i'll try and call you as soon as i can, okay? im sorry i seergvfcr"
12 years have passed since then. Lex got sent to a max. security prison, Lionel died, Lilian fucked off to who knows where. And so that left Marcy to pick up the pieces of the company.
The first thing she does when she get's put as CEO of Luthor Corp is move the fucking headquarters. The second is a rebranding. The Luthor name became synonymous with terrorism and death, so L-Corp it is.
A very stressful, very long week later, and Marcy finds herself in National City. She tries to give herself a little treat in the form of a seat on a new spacecraft that the company designed a piece for, but of course that's when everything goes to shit.
First, she's fucking exhausted, so she almost oversleeps. Then, on her way to the event she gets called into her office to oversee something or other about the re-branding. And as she's lamenting her missing her place in the Venture , when it fucking explodes.
She then commits the sin of feeling lucky, because of course when she's glad she didn't die, someone with a vendetta for her older brother seems to take it as a sign that she's working with said older brother because suddenly her missing her spot on the flight seems "suspicious".
Not even 24 hours later, and she has Lex's old childhood buddy asking to come in to her office for an interview. She knows Clark, of course she does. And maybe that far away feeling of nostalgia that she should have squashed beneath her heel is what possessed her to say "yes" to seeing him.
That takes her to the current moment. She's up to her neck on paperwork, her heels are killing her, she can feel a migraine coming that if she leaves it it will turn into a meltdown, and it's only 10am. so, the day is still young! and that's when Olivia lets her know that Clark Kent of the Daily Planet has arrived, and he brings company.
That last sentence puzzled her for a moment, given that Kent usually was accompanied by Miss Lane. So, for Olivia to not name the person Kent brought, was interesting.
She hears the two sets of steps coming into her office as she's going through some last minute paperwork.
"Good morning Mr. Kent. And...?" She leaves the pause, waiting for a name to be given to her, just as she finally glances up from the several legal forms she was staring at.
And looks directly into the golden brown eyes that have haunted her dreams for the past 12 years.
"...Plantar." Anne tells her, after a light pause.
Marcy can suddenly feel that migraine getting worse, but she can't do shit about it right now, and so she puts on a practiced smile and carries on.
"Mr. Kent and Miss Plantar, then. Welcome to L-Corp"
If she can see the hurt in Anne's eyes... She chooses not too.
