Making Heaven out of Hell

Summary:

A child falls into/wakes up in the Underground. Unfortunately for them, the Underground is much more dangerous than it should be.
(My take on hard mode, with some handcanons added)

Currently on hiatus; will begin updating again around the time Deltarune Chapter 5 releases.

Notes:

This is my first fic, so I hope you like it, even if it probably isn't great.
On an entirely unrelated note, please tell me if you see typos. I'll do my best to make sure that there aren't any but if I miss some don't be afraid to yell at me.
Also, I'll probably eventually be dealing with some serious topics like PTSD so uh. I'll do my best to research well but if anything is wrong with those things DEFINITELY don't be afraid to shout at me. Similarly, if you think I mistagged something or forgot to tag something, please tell me.

Chapter Text

Frisk ran up the mountain, desperately trying to go faster than their pursuers without getting spotted. They had managed to sneak off after getting past the perimeter around Mount Ebott, but sometime after they had heard an alarm blaring and saw searchlights piercing through the dim morning twilight, and they knew they were being hunted.

They… weren’t exactly doing great. They were fast, sure, but the mountain was steep and tall, and mages in power armor could cover quite a lot of ground. They just hoped nobody teleported on them unti—

Before they could even finish the thought, they heard the pop of someone teleporting to maybe 600 meters away.

And of course, because the universe hated Frisk in particular, the guard teleported facing towards them without a single tree blocking line of sight.

They immediately dashed to the side, trying to find a place to lose them, but the guard chasing them started shooting at them, what the hell? Sure, Mount Ebott was important, but they expected a bit of hesitation, or at least a warning. Maybe the guard got told about Frisk’s earlier attempts at getting here.

At least the soldier didn’t teleport again. Hopefully they burnt out of magic. If so, it was the world's worst consolation prize, either for whatever divine wrath Frisk had incurred to get into this mess or for being dumb enough to go up this mountain against the wishes of just about everyone who knew why, including the people currently shooting at them.

Ignoring the bullets as best they could (which was not very well), they continued climbing, but a pair of pops and a rapidly growing amount of gunshots signaled they really needed to find a hiding place. Their pursuers were catching up quickly thanks to their armor, and Frisk yelped as they got grazed on the side of their chest.

More bullets were hitting trees than them, though, and with a loud crack, a sapling fell right onto a metal fence blocking a cave entrance, bending it under its weight and giving them an opportunity to get in the cave. They weren’t sure what they’d find in there, but they doubted it would be worse than getting shot at.

They scampered up the tree, praying to whatever was listening that they wouldn’t get shot while on a tree that had, just seconds earlier, got shot.

Admittedly, it was not their best idea.

Fortunately, the fence wasn't electric. They had made that mistake last time, but this one was just a regular fence. Unfortunately, just before they managed to get over the fence, they got shot in the arm, the bullet smashing it apart like a twig. They cried out in pain, dragging themself past the last of the branches with their good arm just as the tree's trunk split from another bullet hitting it. They fell to the ground and dashed as fast as they could manage before getting shot again in the leg just before getting in the cave.

Their leg gave out and they collapsed on the ground, desperately crawling forward to get behind the walls of the surprisingly well-lit cavern with a hole in its roof. They managed to get past a curve, and heard some shouting from behind them. Nobody seemed to be chasing them inside, which was good, but they were getting weak and dizzy from blood loss as they went deeper. Their heart was pounding, their limbs screamed in pain, and they were getting so dizzy that they could barely pay attention to where they were going. Despite the light, their vision was fading out, and as they fumbled their way through the cavern they slipped down an incline, tumbling down into a hole and oh that was much deeper than they thought .

As Frisk fell down headfirst towards a bed of strangely well pruned flowers, their last thought was how embarrassing it was to get past a small army and a mountain only to die because they fell into a hole.

And then they landed, their neck snapped, and they died.

That's it, folks! Story's over.
