Cyberpunk 2077: WOLFSONG

Summary:

Leto Laporte is BARGHEST's most dangerous wolf. Kurt Hansen's so-called daughter, she's used to being pointed at his enemies and told to kill. But in the wake of President Myers' death, everything is different, and she is the only one he trusts to keep a leash on his newest prize: the infamous Songbird. But even prized wolves can be caged.

So Mi's plans went awry when V didn't come to the rescue. Now, she's trapped in the heart of Hansen's underworld, surrounded by slavering wolves. To escape, all she needs to do is split one from the pack. In Leto she sees something—or claims to. A flicker of humanity, a connection. Or is she merely seeking a particularly effective knife?

Hansen needs Leto close to So Mi, and So Mi needs someone close to Hansen—and, perhaps, more than that. With the lines between duty and desire blurring, every move is a gamble, and every decision a potential betrayal. Torn between the man who forged her and the woman who could shatter her, the price of Leto's freedom, if not her love, could be paid in lives beyond her own...

A dark romance between delicate weapons. Feedback welcome. This is an extensive rewrite of the previous WOLFSONG for a variety of reasons.

Chapter Text

Notes:

Hey hey,

Some of you might notice this title is familiar. This is a significant rewrite of the previous WOLFSONG. Essentially, the story was failing to hit the ideas and themes I had wanted to explore and, in the act of writing, it was becoming something that just wasn't hitting the right notes. There were elements of violence and dehumanization that weren't coming through as clearly as I would've liked, combined with the fact that I just don't think I'm straight enough to write a M/F romance that worked out on the page as I saw it in my head. Along those lines, in my head, Caleb always felt a little like a placeholder character in his own story, which is not how you want your protagonist to feel. Some of the secondary characters were more interesting (Reiss, Big Lizzie), and so the course of action seemed obvious: why not basically combine all of them into one?

So, Leto.

It is unlikely that I'll be continuing WOLFSONG 1.0, so to speak, because I feel like this version is much closer to the story I wanted to tell: a dark romance between two delicate weapons. I do apologize if you liked the previous version, but I will be leaving that up, if only so people can compare and contrast. I think there's a lot to be said for showing people the value of a redraft, even if it feels a little silly to do so in the world of fanfiction. Kurt Hansen and Songbird are probably my two favorite characters in Cyberpunk 2077, so, I hope to do them both justice. How far will So Mi go for her freedom? Who does Leto serve, and who does she trust? Can the humanity of a wolf be rekindled by the music of a caged songbird, or is she a siren, luring them all toward the rocks of the Blackwall?

Cover art was done in photo mode. I've had a lot of fun playing around with photo mode, so, there may be more illustrations throughout.
