All The Family I Need

Summary:

Following the loss of his mother, Zed is suddenly thrust into the role of caregiver for his younger sister, with an absent father who leaves him to face the world alone. As more siblings join the family over the years, Zed starts to feel the pressure of juggling his responsibilities, school, and work.
He struggles to hold his family together in a world that seems unforgiving. But when darkness threatens to swallow him whole, Wyatt and Bucky enter his life, offering kindness, protection, and unwavering support - they become the family he desperately needs. Together, they weave a fragile light through the darkness, showing Zed that love, even when born from pain, can become a home.

Notes:

Hi my people, this is the first fanfiction I have ever written for a fandom :)
A few Infos up ahead, because this will be a loooong story, and a lot of it is definitely not canon.

1. English is not my first language, so if you spot any grammar or spelling mistakes, don't be afraid to point them out to me :)

2. This story originates from a dream I had after watching the Zombies movie lol. And since there are almost no fanfictions in this fandom with the tropes I need in my life, I decided to try writing it myself (we'll see how this works out. Maybe I've overestimated myself ;P )

3. This will definitely not be following the movie. A few chapters will probably be very similar to the beginning of the first movie, but it has a turning point pretty early on.

4. I will be giving updates about what year it is and how old the characters now are, because it will be spanning over like ten years or something if everything goes according to plan.

5. If you don't like sensitive topics like neglect, abuse, maybe torture, parentification, and stuff like self-deprecation, you should probably not read this, because these themes are probably going to be pretty much a constant. I will always write what you can expect in the notes at the beginning, like trigger warnings or if you can expect some fluff.

6. Even if you don't like my story, I will try to continue writing it, just for my own pleasure—I have already put too much work into planning all the chapters, planning the storyline, and calculating the ages of multiple characters to not write this.

7. I will try to get a chapter out every week. But we'll see how consistent it will be (I am currently studying to become a kindergarten educator, so I will have to see how often I get the time to write this fanfiction)

8. It will probably always be useful to look at the notes at the beginning. There will probably often be information about stuff I thought of to incorporate into the Zombies universe. Just so you know :)

I hope some of you at least enjoy this a little bit, if not... Oh well, it's my story :P

Chapter 1: Welcome to Seabrook: An Alternate Universe

This first chapter is just going to be an introduction, because I've changed the universe and the characters a lot. You can skip it if you want to be surprised by everything, but some points could be very helpful.

 

Seabrook has always been a town of strict rules, sparkling smiles, and secrets swept under the rug. But beneath the pastel-perfect surface lies the story of one boy growing up too fast and doing everything he can to hold his world together.
This is not your typical Zombies fanfiction.

Here, the supernatural is real, but so is survival. Family takes many forms, and responsibility doesn’t always wait until you’re ready for it. In this universe, Zed isn’t just a student or a football player—he’s something more. Something heavier.

Told through moments of chaos, care, and quiet resilience, this story explores what it means to build a home from scratch, to find strength in vulnerability, and to accept help when you’ve spent years being the one who helps everyone else.

Along the way, familiar faces from Seabrook return, some in surprising roles, as friendships shift, new bonds form, and love takes root in unexpected places.

This fanfiction explores an emotionally layered reimagining of the Zombies universe, where stakes aren’t just about fitting in but about surviving, growing, and learning to let others carry the weight with you.
