Work Header

it could've been great

Summary:

Millie gets expelled from RAD and sent back to the human realm. It was all a misunderstanding, but Millie was too scared, too panicked, in too much pain, to defend themself against the accusations.

Belphegor never sees them again.

BTW: there are relationships and characters other than what I listed but they're hardly there, so I'm not tagging them.

Work Text:

"You're expelled," Millie could hardly hear Diavolo speaking to them over the sound of their heart beating in their ears. Everyone thinks they attacked someone for no reason, but they don't understand. There was a reason, there was a reason.

They just wanted that guy to stop touching them.

The man's hands were on Millie's chest fiddling with their chest binder and they could hardly move, could hardly breathe, through their panic. They whimpered helplessly.

"Shush," the man whispered in reply, "be good for me, doll." That's when his hands started wandering lower.

Millie's mind was screaming both for them to stay still and to get away, to let him have what he wanted and to defend themself from him. They were terrified of the consequences. No matter what they did they had a feeling something horrible would happen.

They feel like they're just a doll for others to play with, something that doesn't deserve bodily autonomy...

and yet their self preservation won this time.

They were hardly even aware of their actions as they punched the man as hard as they could in the jaw. It probably wouldn't do too much considering the man was a demon, but Millie's thoughts were so scrambled and panicked and pained that they weren't even thinking about that right now.

"You brat," the man hissed, rubbing the spot where they hit them, now not as close to them, "you're gonna get it for that."

It wasn't long after that that the demon had told everyone that he was the innocent one, that he was just trying to be nice and he got attacked.

He was a liar...

and yet Millie couldn't say anything against him, not now. They were still scared, still panicked. They didn't know what to do. They could hardly even breathe as they were brought back to the House of Lamentation to pack up their things.

The brothers didn't want Millie anymore.

They knew this would happen eventually, so why did it hurt so much?

As they left one thing Mammon said to them stuck to them like glue.

"I thought you were better than this."

Millie wished they were better,

they wished they had just stayed still like a good girl toy,

they wished they had just obeyed. Maybe if they did they'd be worthy of love.

When they walked back into their human realm home with their stuff their older sister was there. Her name was Alexandra and she was twenty-three, three years older than Millie.

"Why are you here with all your stuff?" Alexandra asked, confused, her voice cutting through Millie's dissociation like a knife, "I thought that exchange program thing was going well."

Millie started sobbing right then.

After a few weeks of Millie being gone, Lucifer found footage of what had really happened. Belphegor had known Millie was most likely innocent, they weren't the type of person to attack for no reason.

Belphegor pleaded with Lucifer to let him be one of the ones to bring Millie back and Lucifer agreed. Lucifer decided that Belphegor and Mammon could be the ones to go get Millie since they were the ones Millie was most comfortable around. (Plus, they could be trusted to keep each other in check if it was for a good cause.)

The two didn't expect what they'd find when they got to Millie's home.

"What are you doing here?" Alexandra asked, her eyes narrowing. Belphegor noticed that the woman looked like she'd been crying for a long time. Belphegor glanced at Mammon and they both decided to shrug off Alexandra's obvious bad mood. She had always been at least a little distrusting of them.

"We're here to get Millie," Mammon replied, "if they still want to come back, that is." Alexandra chuckled but there was no happiness in her tone, only anger.

"It would have been great if you came like, two days earlier," Alexandra muttered, crossing her arms.

"Why's that?" Belphegor asked, curious. As Alexandra looked him in the eye he had a very bad feeling and clutched his pillow a little tighter.

"Millie's funeral was two days ago," Alexandra replied. Silence reigned for about a minute before both Belphegor and Mammon started talking again at the same time.

"Why would-" "you gotta be kidding-"

"They said in their suicide note that they realized that they're 'just a toy for others to play with'," Alexandra said, a hint of rage in her voice, "and that they should've just stayed still when that jerk at y'all's school tried to assault them."

Belphegor clutched his pillow tighter as he thought over his last interactions with Millie. If he had just been better, had been smarter, maybe he could have kept this all from ever happening.

"And y'all didn't even bother trying to help them," Alexandra said quietly, "so forgive me if I don't wanna fucking see you right now."

After a few more days Millie's mother invited them over to see their ashes. When Belphegor saw them everything fully clicked in his mind. Millie was never coming back.

He doesn't know if he'll ever be okay again.
