J.K. Rowling owns the universe in which my story is set. Many of her characters appear in this book, but I do not claim to own any of them. I own only the characters I have created.
Sordid Affair is a dark work of fiction with mature themes not suitable for all viewers. More specifically, the relationship between the main character and Tom Riddle will not be remotely healthy, given that Tom is a sociopath with a laundry list of DSM-5 conditions. This is not going to be a feel-good romance story (but, hey, that's probably why you're here!) The relationship between Tom and the main character, Irene, is one of obsession, hatred, and... well... you'll see. It must also be pointed out that Irene herself is morally gray.ย
TL;DR: In this story, the line dividing right from wrong has been heavily blurred.
As a fair warning, I will not be giving trigger warnings at the top of each applicable chapter. Potential triggers in this book include, but are not limited to, extreme violence, manipulation, torture, abuse, and significant sexual content/undertones. If you don't think you want to read a story with these themes (and more), please don't read!
I find it of importance to note that I do not condone any kind of abusive, toxic, or unhealthy relationship. This book is complete and utter fiction. The rationale for writing my fanfiction this way (instead of taking the artistic liberty to make Tom more soft and likable) is that I want Tom Riddle's character to reflect who he is in the original Harry Potter series: a deeply disturbed, power-hungry villain. I also wanted to be able to delve deeply into Tom's thought processes, as well as the elements which culminated in the creation of Lord Voldemort.
But I also take the "inability to love" aspect of his character as symbolism for the fact that Tom lived a loveless life, not as a literal physical or chemical inability to love. Tom neither knows nor understands the concept of love due to the fact that he has never experienced it. This begs the question: what if things were different?ย
