How Do I Sing My Own Songcord?

Summary:

Mi'yeong made one mistake, she only wanted one more hunt before her little one was born. Who could have imagined that she would never come back? Or that the dreamwalker she had taken for a mate would vanish with her?

Only for her child to show up years later...

I have thrown my hat into the ring on the Polytrix Avatar AU's that I've been seeing around. I am autistic and James Cameron's Avatar is one of my special interests and KPDH is my current hyperfixation so combining them is honestly on brand for me.

Chapter 1: Prologue

Notes:

I have decided to Na'vi-ify some of the names, nothing super complex I promise. I'm keeping everyone's names the same I'm just adding ' to them to give it a bit of the feel of a Na'vi name without deviating too much from their actual names.

So we'll have
Mi'yeong
Cel'ine
M'ira
Zo'ey
and Rumi will be the same because she was raised by humans.

Hope everyone enjoy's the fic!

Chapter Text

The walls were cold and metal and grey, a stark difference from her lush and colourful home full of life that she had been taken from. She already missed it, the sounds of the animals in the distance, the rustle of the wind through the foliage and the feeling of her bowstring being pulled tight as she was about to fire an arrow during a hunt.

Her bow braided with plant leaves and string, carefully crafted by her own hands as she came of age just as all hunters in her clan did. She had been so proud of how beautiful it was, the same bow that had been taken from her when she was captured…

She turned her body as she was thrown into a small room, deciding landing on her shoulder with a pained grunt was better than landing on her distended stomach and possibly harming her little one growing within.

“Mi'yeong!”

Her ears perked, her head snapping up as she looked for her mate, she had known he was a dreamwalker, but hearing his voice here… It was both comforting and unnerving to see him here.

He appeared in her vision, helping her up with one hand gently caressing her stomach as if to check on both of them, not just her.

“Ji-Hyun, they took me while I was hunting. What do they want from me?” She asked quickly, her arms bracing against his as she got to her feet.

“You’re going to be okay. I’ll make sure of it.” He promised, but that did nothing to answer her question, or to put her nerves at ease.

“Answer me, what do they want with me?” Mi'yeong demanded, glaring over her shoulder at the humans outside the room.

“I don’t know yet, but I’ll keep you safe.” He promised, turning to look at the humans when they said something Mi'yeong didn’t understand, her human wasn’t the best yet, she had still been learning.

“What are they saying?” She asked.

“They want you to be decontaminated.” He explains, guiding her to a spot in the room where there was water leaking from something overhead, droplets falling down onto her braided hair.

“What does that mean? I want to go home.” She tells him as the water turns on, pouring down over her head and shoulders causing her to jolt from the cold and try to step forward only for his arms to hold her in place.

“Just stay still, it’ll be done soon.” He tells her.

The smell was acrid, worse than the scent that accompanied the poisonous spores of a Vakvok growing on a tree. It stung her nose and burned her throat, her eyes watering as she squeezed them shut tightly, trying to block the vile stench.

She blindly reached for Ji-Hyun, gripping onto his arms but he just told her to take a deep breath before pushing her head back under the heavy stream of water. She kept trying to move away but he held her there, barely able to breathe through the thick cloud of disgusting smells and the water being poured over her.

She could feel hands grabbing at her clothing, stripping her of her chest guard and waistcloth leaving her bare and exposed, even her Songcord was taken from her. She tried to grab for it but the water was in her eyes, and it was gone somewhere she couldn’t reach.

It lasted far too long, her body was cold and shaking by the time the water finally turned off, leaving her drenched seemingly to her very core.

Her body practically collapsed into his arms, his body being the only thing keeping her upright. The scent still burned her nose and throat, her frame shaking against his body while something rough was moving across her skin, lapping up what droplets of water remained. Eventually the rough feeling was on her face and water was being wiped from her eyes, allowing her to look up at her mate for the first time since the water turned on.

Dark amber eyes glanced around, looking for her clothing, her Songcord, but she didn’t see any of it. She continued looking while Ji-Hyun escorted her from the room that still reeked from whatever they had done to her, her bare skin carried the stench in a way that made her nose wrinkle at her own body.

Mi'yeong could see the humans looking at her, some smirking as the naked Na’vi woman was paraded past them, the shame burning in her cheeks. She didn’t know much English, but she could understand a few words of the vile things they were saying causing her tail to lash behind her.

She was put in a room, Ji-Hyun helped her pull on some of the dreamwalker clothes, they felt tight and wrong against her skin but Ji-Hyun said they wouldn’t be giving her back her clothes so she had to deal with this.

He left her alone, promising he would go talk to his ‘boss’ whatever that word meant, and see what could be done.

Mi'yeong curled up on the padded shelf in the corner, missing her nest at home tucked safely away in the little section of hometree that she and Cel'ine lived in. Cel'ine… Mi'yeong knew she should have listened to her… If she hadn’t insisted on one last hunt before her little one came into the world she wouldn’t have been taken captive by the humans…

At least Ji-Hyun was here with her, he’d help her get out, hopefully before her little one was born…

She did not get out, nor did Ji-Hyun really try to help. He tried to keep her passive, to not anger the humans holding her. Even as they poked and prodded at her and put some sort of goo on her belly, Ji-Hyun told her not to fight, that they wouldn’t hurt her, but that didn’t matter, she wanted out.

Her little one was born in a small metal box, completely cut off from the vibrant, beautiful nature of her home. She brought her little Rumi close to her chest, cooing softly at her newborn while Ji-Hyun sat with her, brushing some of her hair gently from her face.

“She’s beautiful Mi'yeong.” He told her.

“She shouldn’t have been born here Ji-Hyun, we belong in my hometree, not in this little box.” She replied, looking to him, her eyes narrowed and a frown set on her face.

“I keep telling you, I can’t get you out of here, they’ll kill us both.” He insists.

“Go get Cel'ine, she will help.” She tries, pleading with him to listen.

“I can’t.” He just replies simply, looking towards the door, anywhere but her.

She frowned, but looked back down at her little Rumi, cradled gently in her arms. She had to find a way to get out of here, with or without him… She had to, for Rumi. She couldn’t grow up in this metal box.

Mi'yeong would come to learn just how little her mate mattered to his own species. For after Rumi was weaned off her milk the humans came, they wanted Rumi. For what she did not know, but it scared her. They stole her daughter from her arms, and aimed their guns at her. Ji-Hyun tried to protect her, her hands flew to her ears as they gunned her mate down, her eyes wide as his body dropped to the ground, heavy and lifeless.

She couldn’t run to him, she had to try and get Rumi back, she could hear the cries of her daughter as she was being taken further and further from Mi'yeong.

“Rumi!” She screamed, trying to rush past the humans, her daughter was gone from her sight now but she could still hear the cries growing fainter with every passing second.

The noise sounded in her ears, and the pain exploded across her chest. All noise ceased, her vision was gone.

Then there was nothing…
