Chapter Text
“Hello? You’re Jeff The Doorman, right?” Tahani Al-Jamil, the newest Good Place Architect asked.
“That’s me! Where are you headed?”
“Oh, I wasn’t planning on going anywhere, I was just wondering if you’ve seen a friend of mine since a ton of different beings come through here often?”
“Depends, what do they look like?”
“She looks very similar to your average run-of-the-mill Good Janet but she has a teal streak in her hair and is wearing a-“
“Purple heart shaped necklace with J + J engraved on it? Yeah, I have. She’s been standing near the Earth door over there for the past couple days, just staring at it.”
“Thank you, Jeff!”
“Of course!”
“Janet!”
“Tahani? What are you doing here?”
“I’ve been looking for you!”
“Really?”
“Yes! Forgive me for changing the subject but have you been feeling alright? You know, since Michael left and.. everything else that’s happened?”
“Mmhm.”
“Are you sure?”
Janet’s eyes began to water.
“I’m sure.”
“You don’t seem very sure, do you wanna talk about it?”
“I don’t know..”
“Here.”
Tahani hugged Janet, who was quietly sobbing into her blazer.
“We’ve just known each other for a long time and through so many reboots that it feels weird without him.”
“I know that feeling.. sort of.”
“You do?”
Tahani nodded.
“I miss them, Tahani.”
“I know.”
“A lot.”
“I know.”
“And I know that at some point you’re probably going through the door.“
“Maybe.”
“I know that it’s extremely selfish of me as a Janet to want you to stay but if you do decide that, logically speaking, I’ll be alone until Michael comes back, and even then, he’ll probably leave at some point too. If either of you decide to go, I will be fine, since I’m sure I could find something else to do.”
“Oh Janet, you don’t have to worry about that because I won’t leave. I’ll stay here, making neighborhoods. And I’ll add different things so I have no chance of getting bored and leaving. Also it’s not selfish to want your only immortal friend to stay.”
“Are you sure? You wouldn’t just stay here for my sake?”
“Of course not! I love this job.” Tahani paused as two additional words popped into her head, unsure if she should say them.
“And.. you.”
“What?”
“I think I love you, Janet.”
“You do? You’re being serious?”
“Yes. And I didn’t realize that until a few minutes ago when I was comforting you.”
Janet carefully leaned against Tahani.
