Chapter Text
All was quiet.
Too quiet..
Hornet stood up, wincing at how sore she felt. She looked around, expecting both her siblings to be dead. Except they weren't.
Her eldest sibling, The Hollow Knight, laying on their side. Half dead bubbles of infection were still clinging to their skin, and there were several large gashes in their chest where they had stabbed themselves. She sighed, feeling utter despair at the fact she couldn't do anything but watch as they sunk their blade into their own flesh. She knelt closer, and took their pulse.
Holy shit.
They were still alive, and now that she realized that, she was was able to hear faint breathing. She turned to her younger sibling, Little Ghost, and examined their wounds as well. They had several bleeding wounds, but the most jarring was the large crack in their little head that was oozing void. She took their pulse, expecting nothing.
They too, were breathing.
-------
As Thorn looked upon the temple, she noticed something strange.
It was completely silent.
Cautiously stepping in, she stared at Hornet, who stared back.
"Thorn, I need your help."
-------
It took awhile, but they eventually got the siblings back to dirtmouth.
Stepping into the nearest home, Hornet laid her siblings on the dusty couch.
"Hey, Hornet. I'm gonna go get some help." Thorn said, and took off. She didn't even have time to turn around.
-------
Quirrel had been writing in his journal when he heard a knock at the door. Tiso went to go get it, and there stood a mayfly clad in green who was vaguely familiar.
"So what brings you here today?" He politely asked.
"Go to the house closest to the well. It's an emergency." She huffed, before speeding out the door.
"Asshole.. Why the hell should we listen to her?" Grumbled his husband.
"She might have been rude, but if it's an emergency, it's probably more important. Looks like dinner will have to wait, hun." Chirped Quirrel.
When he stepped inside, he saw Hornet standing over a tall figure. A moment later, he recognized them. It was the Hollow Knight, with the Little Ghost laying on their chest. Both were badly wounded.
"I'll go get bandages." Quirrel said sofly. "And something to disinfect their wounds." And with that, he walked off.
Tiso looked to Hornet. "What the hell?!"
-------
Cloth had been working for several hours, washing her clothes, drying and folding them. It had been over a month since she had last done it, and that was long even for her standards.
Before she could finish though, someone knocked on her door. Which was strange, because almost no one lived in Dirtmouth! Putting the clothing aside, she walked over to the front door while the knocking grew louder.
"Coming!" She yelled, swinging open the door. Standing there was a green - clad winged bug who was completely out of breath. Cloth hesitantly reached outward. "What happend? Are you okay dear?"
"Follow.. me.. now.." Huffed the bug before taking off.
Cloth sighed, and followed her.
-------
As Hornet was explaining to Tiso what happened, Thorn came rocketing through the door with Cloth on her heel. "By the gods, what's wrong-"
It was a couple minutes before Cloth finished her sentence. "Ah. I understand."
Hornet turned to Thorn who making her way over to Quirrel, who was busy wrapping up her sibling's wounds with the help of Tiso. "Bandages, please."
Quirrel handed her a roll, and she wordlessly walked back over to Hornet.
"Sweetie, could you take off your cloak?"
"What?! Why?!" Hornet blanched, already blushing. She couldn't imagine being without it in front of al these people.
Normally, she would have refused. But she noticed that nobody seemed to care. She had her own wounds, and she guessed they were busy anyways.
It had taken three long hours to finish wrapping up everyone's wounds, and still her siblings were still out cold. At least their breathing had slowed, and after she'd checked both their heartbeats saw that they were going to be okay. Thorn had bandaged her own wounds with care, always making sure her lover was comfortable.
After they were done and cleaned up, Quirrel turned to her with a suggestion.
"How about we all stay here? It would be better if you had some help and there are plenty of blankets here."
Cloth chimed in. "Yeah. that would be great. Sound good Hornet?"
"Sure."
They made a nest of blankets, with Hollow in the middle. Off to side, Quirrel was curled up and holding Little Ghost close to his chest. Every minute or so, he would gently stroke their head. Tiso was right next to him, cuddled up into his side. Cloth was next to Hollow, holding their hand and softly whispering to them. Hornet was right next to her sibling, with Thorn's arms holding her close.
As she drifted off, she was very thankful. for having such a loving family.
