Work Text:

It was just a regular afternoon in noisettes cafe. Pep had the day off, so he spent it just running a few errands, a nice walk in the park, all sorts of stuff. And he’d landed at the cafe, for a coffee and maybe a pastry, but his short visit started to drag on, in a way he liked, funnily enough. Noisette had a way with words, she could stretch any topic into a long, cozy conversation. She could come off as annoying at first, but if you started to get to know her, you could tell her anything.

Peppinos coffee was slowly going cold. He was just talking about life, work, anything really. The conversation flowed on its own, until they just landed on the general topic of Gustavo. Peppino talked about him fondly, why wouldnt he? He went over the little things he would do for him, their “dates” that always seemed to end in disaster. But then something slipped out of his mouth, something he’d never thought he’d say.

“I wanna marry that-a man…” he sighed dreamily. And yet, it felt so natural.

“You…what?” He’d just realized what he’d said, as he looked up to see noisette staring wide eyed at him.

Peppino stayed silent for a good while, the idea now planted in his head like a seed. “I…wanna marry him…I think…” He didn’t know why he said that. Of course he wanted to marry him.

“Really??” Noisette started buzzing with excitement, a wide, contagious smile spreading ear to ear across her face.

Peppino adjusted in his seat, looking down into his coffee, deep in thought. “I mean…that just slipped out, but…” the idea grew and grew, blush spreading across his cheeks. But then, like anything, his anxieties got in the way. “Oh, but I don’t have any money for a ring…O-or for a venue, mio dio, what if he says no?!” He leant his forehead onto his palm.

“Peppino.” Noisette put her hand on his free one. “That man has let you chuck him like a projectile, of course he would wanna marry you. And noise and I can lend you some money! I can help on a lot of things, I LOVE weddings!!”

The thoughts lingered for a moment, but then noisette’s words really sunk in. It was Gustavo he was talking about here. He’d been with him all throughout the tower, through the early days of the pizzaria, through his anxious episodes. Why would he go now?

Peppino stat up straight, looking down at his hands, at his empty ring finger. He clenched his fists. “…Okay.”

“Okay??” Noisette jumped up in her seat.

Peppino finally put his head back up, a smile on his face and a newfound determination in his eyes. “Okay. …Okay! I’m…I’m gonna marry him.”

“You’re gonna marry him!”

“IM GONNA MARRY HIM!” Peppino stood up with a slam of his fists on the counter.

“Oh my god, Peppino, you do not know how long it’s been since I’ve planned a wedding. Trust me, I know everything, I know the best people, i know the best hacks, please let me help, please!” She stood up aswell, clasping her hands together in a beg.

Peppino thought about it for a second. “…you know what, what the hell, sure! Who else would I go to?” He shook her hand. She buzzed to life, flapping her hands around and bombarding him with questions. “What type of ring is it gonna be?! Which venue?! Whats the colour pallet?! Will it be in a church?! What type of suit, i-if you are wearing a suit of course!” She ran circles around him.

“Santo Christo noisette, I only got the idea I minute ago! Gimmie some time to think!” He rubbed his head.

She slowed down, sitting back down and kicking her feet. “Oh god, we’ve got so much to plan! Trust me, this is gonna be the best wedding you’ve ever seen!”

Peppino took a second to think over that, is usual doubt about everything slipping away, into blind determination. “Yeah. Y-YEAH! It’s gonna be the best wedding we’ve ever seen!”

“Let’s do this!”
“Let’s do this!”
