Chapter Text
Hiccup before had dreamed about what life on Berk would be like. His mother told him stories growing up of what it was like to live there. Small island in the a archipelago, filled with the best dragon fighters from around the world. All band together to fight the very thing he grew up training. The ideals of Berk went against everything his mother had taught him. He grew up raised around dragons, he was probably the only kid in the world taught these weren’t vicious, violent beasts but instead gentle, intelligent creatures who so reflected his own. He and his mother were taken from Berk when he was just a babe, by Cloudjumper and it was her decision to never go back. Her decision, but not Hiccup’s.
He had spent twenty years wondering what Berk would be like, and today he was finally going to find out. Without his mother knowing of course.
Hiccup put on his helmet and the rest of his gear, packing supplies for a week, and backups of his leg and one of toothless's tail. He told his mother he was going to visit his friend queen Mala on her island, she was ruler of one of the limited dragon friendly communities they had encountered.
When they were all packed up, Hiccup and Toothless took to the skies. Hiccup started to talk a few minutes into their ride.
“I know mom said that the berkians are incapable of change, but how can that be, she’s from Berk and she changed her mind. I’m from Berk and I know that you’ll never hurt me bud.” Toothless roared in agreement. “I wonder what my dad will be like, mom says I get my stubbornness from him.”
When Hiccup and Toothless made their way to Berk they circled the island trying to find a place secluded to land. That plan was quickly thrown out when they saw a group of Berkians fighting and losing badly to a titan wing monstrous nightmare.
Hiccup and Toothless swooped in just as the dragon was fired up to land a deadly blow on a large red headed viking. Landing in between the two, Hiccup used his shield to block the blow, as the other vikings looked at him in shock.
“Nightfurry.” A berkian with a hammer fastened to his amputated hand and a peg leg declared. Hiccup turned to face the group, his mask covering everything but his eyes.
“Dragon master.” The viking he had saved said in the same manner as the first. Hiccup dismantled from toothless and walked closer to the monstrous nightmare, who had now lighten himself aflame.
“I thought the dragon master was supposed to be ten feet tall.” One said, a girl, or possibly a boy, lanky with blonde hair.
“And with the strength of a dozen men.” Another said, who is identical to the first. Toothless was prepared to fire at the monster nightmare but Hiccup gave him a signal to stand down.
“By the looks of him they were only off by four feet.” A chubby blonde haired one spoke up.
“Yeah and thirteen men, right Astrid?” A dark-haired, somewhat short, viking asked someone. Hiccup heard no reply to the man's question, as he continued to move closer to the dragon with caution. He couldn’t risk taming it his usual way, not with it on fire and seven armed vikings ready for a fight behind him. When he was sure enough he could make it, he jumped, grabbing hold of the titan wing dragon’s horns and bringing them to the ground, which instantly calmed him down.
“Fasinating.” The chubby blonde said. Hiccup released the dragon and let him fly away, then turned around and started walking back toward the group of vikings.
“Stay back demon.” The red head called out, to which Hiccup removed his mask.
“Woah, woah, not a demon, not a demon, just a guy.” He said, revealing himself. Surprise evident on all of the berkians face’s. The red head and the hammer handed one were both around his mother’s age but everyone else was around his.
“You’re crazy…I like that.” One of the lanky blondes said.
“That was awesome, I’m Tuffnut, and that’s my sister Ruffnut.” The other lanky blonde introduced them.
“This is Toothless, and I’m-”
“Leaving.” The red headed viking interrupted him.
“But chief, he just saved our lives.” The girl he assumed was Astrid interjected.
“Cheif? Your Stoik the vast?” Hiccup questioned, realizing the man he saved was his father.
“And you, the dragon master, I’ve heard stories of you. Raining down hellfire on dragon trapping ships, freeing the beasts that after come here and steal our livestock.”
“Livestock? That’s impossible, that doesn’t make any sense, dragons eat fish.” Hiccup argued.
“Oh yeah, well let me tell you, dragon’s have been coming to the island, raiding us, killing us, and taking our livestock since before you were born, dragon master.” Stoick said.
“I don’t know why the dragons are targeting Berk, but I promise you, I’m not leaving until I find out, and find a way to stop it.” Hiccup declared, getting back on his saddle.
“Oh great because that’s what I asked you to do, stay here and continue to be a thorn in my side.” Stoick said sarcastically.
