Work Text:

Cole groaned as he woke up, it was early in the morning after all and who knew what the day would bring? All was well however when he saw his boyfriend geo sprawled out next to him, the blue and purple streaks in his hair glimmering in the early morning sun. Cole’s groggy expression turned into a smile, and he got up to prepare breakfast. He put on an orange t-shirt and tan shorts he had already been wearing purple socks he borrowed (stole) from geo, and a pair of dark grey slippers. He then bound his hair with a bandana and a knot and brushed his hair. he was ready now. When he arrived downstairs he headed straight for the kitchen, and collected his things. A pan, some eggs, margarine, fish, and a loaf of bread. During the next hour cole would fry the eggs and fish in a pan slicked with margarine, and toasted the bread as he was cooking. The smell of breakfast filled the house. It was a strange looking thing if you asked cole. Windows were made from pieces of shattered glass, put together by geo and molten into one vast shape by cole’s lava arm power. The rest of the house was also put together by the two of them, wood reshapened, stone cut, and the rest of the interior they scavenged for in the land of lost things. Cleaned everything, and put it where it belonged. Sure it looked a little stranger than most homes but everyone was happy here. The food was done. Cole collected plates and placed them on the table, a knife and fork paired with each plate and every plate also came with a glass of orange juice. Every plate had enough fish and scrambled eggs to fill the recipient up properly and three pieces of toast. Cole was a great cook after all, so he always made sure everyone was full. Cole then made his way from door to door to wake everyone up. “goodmorning fritz and spitz, there’s breakfast downstairs!” He would tell the small formling and serpentine boys. “goodmorning cole” Fritz answered. “ssssmellss good.” Spitz would say rubbing his tired little eyes. Cole then found his way to bonzle’s room. "good morning bonzle, there’s dinner downstairs, i’ll see you there?” Bonzle sometimes felt a little too tired for cole’s big breakfasts. Cole did not mind when this was the case and would put a plate aside for later consumption. Bonzle yawned. “i’ll be there, and good morning.” Cole smiled at bonzle, who would wearily return hers. Then came his and geo’s bedroom door. When cole walked in the sun was covering geo like a warm blanket. He would walk over to geo’s side of the bed and kiss his boyfriend on the forehead. “goodmorning treasure, i made fish and scrambled eggs on toast, your favorite.” Cole would whisper softly. “mhmm.. you always know how to wake me up don’t you?” Geo responded. And then he went to sit up to give cole a kiss on his cheek, which would have both of them smiling. “good morning to you as well.” Cole then flushed and would walk out of their room.

Once he arrived downstairs he saw bonzle sitting at the table, and fritz and spitz fighting for a spot they both wanted to claim. Bonzle would give them a side eye, and cole went over to intervene. The fighting kids abruptly stopped when they were lifted up, cole used his strength to do so. “hey! no fair!” “put us down! i want that seat!” The kids would bicker at cole and each other. “come on guys, it’s just a seat. i’m sure the others are just as comfy.” Cole said. “and if you both behave, we’ll see if everyone can get ice cream for after dinner.” Geo who had only just arrived downstairs, chimed in. This got both kids to stop at once, the promise of ice cream greater than any seat, and went to sit next to each other after being put down. Geo then sat down and cole whispered thanks in his ear as he went for his own seat. “dig in guys!” And so everybody did. As cole ate his breakfast, he looked at his family. After the merge they had been the only ones in his life. Especially since his old life seemingly was destroyed by the merge, he had not found any of the other ninja. But luckily that time was over and most of his family had found him. But he had built a new life here, with geo and the other finders, so he decided that he’d keep living here. Cole smiled knowing that this was his life, and that geo was the one he got to share it with. Bonzle didn’t drink her orange juice, and cole noticed. Bonzle, while being a skeleton, could hold down solids but not fluids. Cole would still fill her glass every time though, because she was just as much human as any of them, and would be treated as such. Spitz or fritz would finish her glass after anyways, so it was a win for everybody. Spitz was the first to be done, and immediately headed for the living room where a gaming console stood. Not soon after, fritz would join in as well. It was just cole, bonzle, and geo at the table now. “guys, would you be able to find a new pen for me? mine is almost through and i can’t write without” Bonzle asked the two elemental masters. “yeah, of course!” cole replied. “we’ll do our best bonzle.” Geo said with a smile. Crunches could be heard as geo finished the last of his toast, and went to the kitchen to clean the dirty dishes. “is there anything else you need?” Cole asked bonzle, thinking it would be better to do it all in one trip. Bonzle scooped the last of her scrambled egg into her mouth, and ate it before responding. “nope, thanks though.” She answered him. Bonzle took her empty plate with fork and knife to the kitchen to wash up with geo. Cole then also finished his breakfast and would bring his used dishes to the kitchen as well, and then turning to the living room.

Cole went sit down next to spitz and fritz, the two kids were so enveloped in their game that they didn’t even notice him. Cole took a notepad and used a pencil to write a list. They would need to find a pen, ice cream, and geo had hoped to find a few crystals. After he wrote these items on his list, he put the notebook down and looked back at the tv. “what are you guys playing again?” He asked the two kids. “prime empire!” Fritz answered cole, not looking up from his game once. Prime empire? cole thought. He’d been trapped in that game with his friends once, it was kind of fun, or so he said. After another 10 minutes bonzle and geo came out from the kitchen and joined them on the couch. It was a bigger couch with a lounge on either side, big enough for all of them and two or three more guests. Geo went to sit next to cole. “is this all?” Geo had picked up the notebook and took a look at the list. “yeah. unless there’s anything else you need?” Geo shook his head. “nope.” Cole nodded. “alright then, leave in an hour?” Cole asked his partner in time. “sounds good to me.” Bonzle sat next to geo and was listening to music via an mp3 player. The rest of the hour went by fairly quickly, everyone was doing their own thing and chilling. It was a good morning, most mornings nowadays were. When the hour was over, cole tapped geo on the shoulder. “let’s get ready, it’s time to go out.” Geo nodded and both of them went to get ready. Cole replaced his shorts with a black pair of sturdy jeans, his slippers for a pair of brown lived in boots that had permanent dirt stains, and two buckles on each boot. They also had gold armor shaped like prison bars at the toes, to keep any rubble from doing damage. Cole put on a belt of which a rope started from under the middle, and looped around him to end at the same spot on the other end of the belt. The belt held a few shurikens just in case, and multiple pouches for any handy stuff he could find along the way. His shirt would be neatly tucked into the pants, and a dark grey sleeveless denim jacket now surrounds the shirt. The jacket had a few pins stuck unto it, collected from the kids and some from his friends over the years. Finally he slid a backpack over his shoulder, and he was done. When he met geo in the living room, he was ready as well. Geo was wearing a dark red sleeveless vest that had an poofy creme colored long sleeve sticking out from under it. He had button almost all the buttons but a few, under which you could see his rainbow beaded necklaces and locker that housed photos of the entire family. geo was also sporting a dark grey pants made of the same material as his long sleeve, out from under it poked a pair of dark red boots also with golden armor at the toes, only these pieces were rounded and had no gaps. He also had a belt with pouches and a bag of his own. “let’s do this!” Cole chimed.

The couple made their way to the door, and bonzle followed them. “we’ll try to be back around 3 PM, alright kiddo?” Geo said to bonzle. “okay.” “make sure spitz and fritz don’t break anything. i know geo can easily fix it but.. you never know with these two!” Cole said. “i’ll make sure of it.” She responded to the pair. Cole and geo gave her a hug, and geo opened the door and stepped out. “we love you, we’ll see you soon.” Cole said with a smile. He then stepped through the door and closed it behind him. The men started walking through the junkyard that they called their home. After mere minutes geo shouted. “hey! cole, a desk! it might have a pen for bonzle!” “let’s check it out!” The two of them started looking through the drawers, and bingo! they scored not one, but five pens and they were different colors too. “nice find geo.” Cole said with a smile. “bonzle is absolutely going to love that.” Geo returned the smile, pocketing the pens as he did. “thank you, you’re a gem.” He kissed cole on the cheek. “let’s keep going.” He then said. “lets!.” As the pair kept going through piles and piles of junk, they found some handy things that could be of use later. Screwdrivers and the like, but also batteries and a battery charger. They also managed to find a mini fridge, which cole gladly claimed for the two of them. After that the two men took a break, they sat on a sheet of metal they had seen laying on the ground earlier. “okay. so we still need to find ice cream, and you wanted to maybe find gems?” Cole asked geo. He was ninety percent sure that that was all that was left on the list, but he wanted reassurance that this was in fact true. “yes, the gems aren’t a need, but you know how i love using them in my sculptures.” Cole laughed at this. “haha, you’re right. but they do make your statues look stunning.” He always complimented geo’s artworks, since he knew that it really reassured him and made him feel confident. And a happy geo was a happy cole. “why don’t we go to store?” Geo was right, how did they not think of this earlier cole thought. Near the edge of a specific part in the land of lost things was a store. Not like the big ones cole was used to in ninjago city, but definitely always had everything they needed. “wow, i didn’t even think of that. yeah let’s do it!” And so they started their route to the store. It was only a twenty minute walk, so it wasn’t too far.

“i know i’ve said it before, but boy am i glad that sora helped us get rid of the hoarder.” Geo nodded in agreement. “you said it, that thing was horrible. atleast now we can leave the kids safely at home.” Geo chimed. “no exactly, it’s made everything safer. and the kids love playing in the seemingly endless fields.” Cole said. “we should give sora a call sometime, i really liked having her over, even though it was because a crazy lady wanted to destroy the world.” Cole agreed. “yeah! let’s call her tommorow. bonzle definitely dug her.” The men arived at the store. As they wandered the aisles, they got chocolate chip ice cream, and cole found some decorative gem stones that could substitute as gems in geo’s build. “hey look!” He said as he showed him the package with the shimmering things. “awh, thanks cole.” He said. They got some other groceries, including lollipops for the kids, and made their way to the cash register. “hello! did you find everything you needed?” The lady asked in a friendly tone. “yes we did, thank you.” Geo responded. “okay, that will be 32 ninjargons please.” Cole opened one of hie pouches and handed the woman a few coins. “would you like a receipt?” She asked. “yes please.” Geo chimed. The men said goodbye and left the store with a full bag. Cole carried it all the way home since he had super strength. “finally, i can see the rookery.” Said cole who even though the bag practically weigh nothing to him, still couldn’t wait to get back home. “i’ll rush along and open the door!” Geo ran off to go and unlock the door. After two minutes, cole also reached their home. He walked through the door, that geo was holding open for him. “thanks treasure.” Cole said gratefully. “no problem.” He responded. “kids! we’re home! come help cole unload!” Spitz and fritz immediately stumbled out from the living room, through the hallways, and into the kitchen. “thanks kiddos.” Cole said to the two boys. When bonzle came in, geo gave her the pens he’d found her. She hugged him in response. “thanks geo! wow.. and different colors too. these are perfect.” She smiled. Bonzle didn’t expect multiple colors, but they were very appreciated. “no problem honey.” Geo said, pulling her beanie down over her eyes as he did. She fixed it back onto her head and both laughed. The two left for the living room, leaving cole and the two youngsters in the kitchen. “ooohhhh!!” Cole could hear the two boys say in unison as they uncovered the tub of ice cream from the grocery bag. Cole snatched it. Feeling that they would run off with it if he didn’t. “hey!!!” “come on cole! we want icccce cream!” the boys said. “hey now, first dinner then ice cream.” He said calmly. The kids sighed in response and left the kitchen as well. He put the ice cream in their freezer, and took all he needed to make a delicious tomato soup for dinner.

Cole mixed pureed tomato with in water that had chicken bouillion in it. He then put in a pinch of salt to his liking, put in the vegetables, vermicelli, and little meat balls. He made the soup in about fourty minutes. Which was perfect because that meant it was around 4:30 PM, so the soup would be the perfect temperature around 5 PM. Cole took a spoonful of the soup and made sure to blow some wind onto it to cool it down, and then put the spoonful in his mouth. The soup was perfect. Cole made his way from the kitchen to the living room and went to sit next to bonzle at the dinner table. For the next half hour, everybody was doing their own thing. Geo was watching tv, spitz and fritz were play fighting, and cole and bonzle were playing chess. “hahz checkmate!” Bonzle exclaimed. “nicely done bonzle. and just in time too, because dinner is ready. gather everyone at the table for me?” Cole went to the kitchen, and bonzle gathered everyone for dinner. Cole came back with bowl after bowl, and then he out the pan of soup on a rubber mat on the table. He scooped out soup with a large spoon, and filled everyones bowls with it. “enjoy everyone!” Cole exclaimed. He loved making soup. Mostly because it was easy and everyone loved it. And it showed because the compliments came almost instantly. “wow cole! this is really good!” Said geo, taking another spoonful. “yeah, this is how tomato soup is supposed to taste.” Said bonzle. Bonzle can eat some soups as long as they’re thick enough. Luckily tomato soup falls into that category. “i want more!” Said fritz, who had already finished his first bowl. Geo re-filled it for him, and continued at his own bowl. “awhh you’re flattering me guys. i’m glad you like the soup.” After they had all had enough, geo and cole prepared the ice cream. the chocolate chip was covered with some caramel drizzle, and cookie crumbs. “that should do it, time to gobble these up.” Cole said. Geo nodded and they both made their way to the living room, where the kids were all watching a movie together. They placed the bowls onto the small table in front of the middle of the couch, and the three of them practically attacked the bowls. Cole and geo’s ice cream was always the best according to the three of them. For the next while, everybody was eating ice cream and watching the movie. The occasional laugh could be heard here and there. Bonzle would sometimes shout at the tv, with the hope that a character would listen to her advice. And after a while, it was time for the two boys to go to bed. “geo could you tuck them in?” Geo nodded and collected the two boys. They both hugged cole and bonzle and said goodnight, then they followed geo upstairs. Cole turned to bonzle and yawned. “pfoof, i’m pretty slammed too. i think we’re going to sleep after this too.” He told her. “i’m not even close to tired yet. i’ve got a few games to catch up on on the computer, so i’ll be up for a while.” Cole nodded. “mhmm.. there’s some more ice cream in the fridge, and there’s pre-made popcorn in the cabinet. so help yourself okay?” He said to her. “i will, thanks cole.” Cole then stood up and gave her shoulder a squeeze. “goodnight kiddo.” Bonzle wished him a goodnight, and cole then made his way upstairs. When he reached the second floor, he saw geo close the boys’ door right before him. Geo put his finger in front of his lips, signaling to be quiet until they reached their room.

The two men made the way to their room. Cole undressed into black boxers and a tan tanktop, and geo into soft greyish green shorts and a white t-shirt. They both went to lay down on the bed, and geo pulled up the covers. Cole put his head on geo’s chest and cole soothingly stroked his hair that was no longer tied. “i love this life.” Cole spoke softly. Geo gave cole a small kiss on the forehead, and replied. “me too, and i love you as well.” They both smiled. “i’m glad the kids are alright.” Cole said. Geo agreed. The two finally said goodnight, and geo turned off the lamp on his nightstand. The two then fell asleep, tangled together like they were one being. Maybe they were. One thing was certain, cole couldn’t wait to live another day with his family.
