April Fool's is Always a Fun Time, Right?

Summary:

It's April Fools! Which means that there are some new maps to play on! This surely will be immensely fun and not at all infuriating for Alex and Joel!

-------

This is a fic that focuses on theoretical tfm maps that get created for April Fools. How they look, what gimmick it has and how it plays.

Notes:

A: Just want to mention that this was in the back burner waiting to get finished and edited for months now because someone decided to procrastinate on it and not let me properly edit it

Work Text:

It was the start of the final round. After suffering through HellPeaks and CrossWorlds they could finally experience the new maps!

"Hopefully the maps are actually fun to play this time." A red scout by the name of Joel grumbled in the chat. He was Alex's best friend with a bit of an ego but he still liked having him around.

"I am sure it'll be fun! Especially considering what we had to go through before this map…" Said Alex, a blue bazooker, to his friend.

"It better be! My KD already got ruined by those 2 rounds and I couldn't even actually play scout on them!!!"

"A good thing really since I hate scouts. Also those maps were peak wdym." Someone else on blue said in the chat.

"NO THEY WEREN'T THEY SUCKED I HATED THEM!!!!" Joel furiously argued.

"Nuh uh." The other guy said.

Alex tuned out their argument as the map finally loaded in and…

Brick Battle in Florida (1918 edition) that's a weird name and the fact that its Florida doesn't sound good. Alex looked around the spawn and saw that he was inside a trench and that the environment was very gloomy.

He looked at himself and saw that he was in some old military looking clothing with a helmet to suit it instead of his normal outfit. He looked at his side. At least I still have my weapons.

He pulled out his rocket rifle and climbed out of the trenches. The map was a lot bigger then normal but it still had all the parts of Florida even if in a more destroyed state. The central hill was undamaged though, well compared to the buildings around it at least. The ground had no grass and instead there was mud everywhere.

Alex looked around taking the entire map in until he noticed a strange detail at the corner of his eye. He looked behind him and saw a gigantic mortar. He simply stared at it with a dumbfounded look.

He was snapped out of his staring competition with the giant mortar by a 50.cal bullet hitting his head. He got knocked out, tumbling down back into the trench.

He quickly got up and decided to instead slowly go through the trenches and heal his health back. As he slowly progressed he saw that the mortar started to slowly shoot. A few minutes later he saw explosions further down the map.

A heavy rain started resulting in the trenches getting slowly flooded. Alex considered jumping out but decided against it. Strangely the water stopped rising after the trenches got half way filled. He thought that the water would fully flood the trenches and spill out. Another strange thing was the fact the water was sickly green instead of the usual blue flood waters Florida had.

Reaching the front trenches he was about to jump out and try to cross the no mans land until he heard weird noises. Is that sawing sounds? And was that vomiting? By carefully listening Alex was able to pinpoint the location of the noises which were in the trench wall right in front of him.

The water started to recede. That little distraction caused him to not notice the fact that the noises were getting close until all he had time for was to dodge to the side.

A trowel guy bursts through the wall and vomits right after. They turned around to face Alex and readied their ASAW to fire at him, though their aim was very wobbly.

He prepared to aim and fire too but the trowel guy shot first hitting him in his left arm resulting in it getting sawed off. He fired a rocket propelling them upwards. He then airshotted them once knocking the enemy out. He missed his third and fourth shot allowing the trowel guy to land and get up so to prevent that he instead pulled out his pocket rocket and blasted them before they could get away or do anything. The trowel guy gets flung across the map into a wall killing them.

Now that the fight was over Alex could heal up and check out the tunnel the troweler made. Looking inside he saw the tunnel go down before getting submerged underwater, hitting some kind of floor and going straight instead.

Alex now had a choice of either through the no mans land where he would be out in the open or the tunnel where he instead couldn't use his rocket rifle to its fullest potential. Remembering the 50.cal headshot that he got not too long ago he decided to instead take his chances with the tunnel.

Dropping down the tunnel and into the lowering water he started to feel the effects of nausea. Happily there were no enemies inside it so it was a pretty simple walk from one side to the other.

As he crossed the underground tunnel he took note that when the water fully disappeared he stopped feeling nausea's. Does being fully submerged in the flood water make you sick? Is that why that trowel guy was vomiting? He pondered those questions until he had to ascend a very steep slope to get out of the tunnel to presumably the enemy side of the map.

Climbing out the bazooker noticed that the trenches here were a lot worse for wear then the ones on his side of the map.

After examining the state of the trenches Alex started looking around for enemies and more specifically that 50.cal sniper.

Walking around the enemy trenches he listened for any sign of a fight or a 50.cal being fired.

He heard a single shot and then reloading sounds.

Peeking his head over the trenches he saw them- her. A rigid of course… Alex grumbled to himself. He never liked rigids. They always had this aura around them that he disliked especially when they were acting smug or when other people talked highly of them.

Not wanting to waste time he jumped out of the trenches, aimed his gun and fired. The first easily hit her since she was standing still. He lined up the air shot and fired hitting it easily.

Now all that is left is hitting her again and she will be dead and not a bother anymore. He snickered to himself. He aimed the last shot at the now knocked out floating rigid sniper and fired.

The corpse gets flung high above in the air before disappearing into a nearby trench.

Serves her right for using 50.cal bleh… Turning around he saw a familiar looking red scout with slugger about to shoot him in the head. He didn't have time to dodge so when the first shot was fired his fate was sealed.

Alex got knocked back into a trench, but that didn't save him. In his dazed state he saw the scout jump above him before shooting him in the head again and once he landed the red scout pulled out a gun with a giant bullet on it and fired it into his head flinging and killing him.

Fuuuuccckk Joel snuck up on me… Mentally pulling out the chat he typed out a quick "lucky" at which Joel responded with "mad lool". Knowing that responding again will just create a heated argument distracting him even more he instead ignored the response and moved out of spawn yet again.

Ignoring his surroundings Alex quickly reached the front trenches and went across the no man's land. As soon as he dropped down into the enemy trenches a disaster was announced.

The Fog is coming

His vision was suddenly getting obstructed by a grey fog growing around him. He also heard the sounds of a mortar firing but he payed it no mind.

Slowly walking further into the trench he listed for any sound of movement or gunfire. I am not going to get killed so easily by Joel again.

Happily or maybe sadly for Alex he didn't hear anything. Instead loud explosions started happening all around him.

He couldn't see where they were coming from because of the thick fog so in a panicked state he rushed back the way he came.

A giant explosion appeared right in front of him dealing massive damage and sending him flying.

The blue bazooker landed somewhere in the enemy? trenches. He was incredible disoriented and his mind was too concussed to even get up.

He didn't even get a chance to get on his feet before another explosion hit the ground close to him killing Alex instantly.

"bruh" He said in the chat. "I couldn't even see what killed me"

"skill issue" Baited Joel. Alex tried his best not to get annoyed at his friends quips.

Not wanting to walk all the way to the frontline again he pulled out his pocket rocket and rocket jumped off of a trench wall.

Landing again he instead used the under barrel grenade launcher to jump all the way to the enemy trenches.

He landed ungracefully tumbling across the mud.

Standing up he looked himself over to see that his covered in mud. Great… Hopefully it won't get any worse than this. As if the universe itself heard his thoughts a heavy thunderstorm appeared with lots of lightning included and a corresponding warning. The heavy rain drenched his clothes immediately.

Of course… Alex, quietly grumbled to himself, started walking forward. The fog started let up and in a few seconds it was already gone. Well on the bright side the fog is gone.

The rigid sniper that he killed earlier appeared at the end of the trench already scoping in. The bazooker didn't have enough room to dodge to the side so he jumped and hoped he survive.

The bullet hit his body knocking the air out of him and sending him backwards on to the floor.

Quickly getting up the sniper was loading another shot in the chamber and running away to a corner to hide behind.

He had no options to quickly close the distance so he simply ran as fast as he could trying to come up with a plan.

When the enemy reappeared from the corner she was already prepared to shoot so he tried jump out the trench.

Instead he slipped giving the rigid a perfect opening to headshot him. But his luck seemed to have finally turned around as one of his teammates suddenly appeared behind her and punched her across the entire trench and over Alex's head.

It was an exo shielder that somehow survived all on their own here. Scrambling up he capitalized on this burst of luck and whipped around and shot at the downed opponent.

He killed her with a single shot. Another easy kill. He smiled and turned around to walk to his teammate.

Walking up he fist bumped with them. "Thanks for the save there bro." He said both in chat and out loud.

"Your welcome." They simply said.

Maybe my luck is turning around? He thought optimistically to himself. He then gets struck by lightning. "Bruh"

"Wow. That's unlucky. Haven't seen anyone get hit by lighting before" They said. "You should probably go heal up we have a medic somewhere."

"Nonsense, I worked with less health before. I don't need no medic." He brushed past his noob teammate. How dare they think I need to heal I am plenty capable myself even when low on health! He affirmed to himself.

Walking further in the enemy territory his exo teammate didn't follow him. Not like I need them.

Another warning appeared.

Mustard gas incoming!

Looking up he saw a swarm of biplanes go over the trenches dropping bombs that explode instantly upon touching the ground and as luck would have it one landed next to him. He was engulfed in a big cloud of green mustard gas.

Even though it looks the same as the gas cannon gas it was dealing a lot more damage to Alex then normal. So much in fact that he couldn't even start running to the nearest medic before flopping to the ground lifelessly.

"Why are there so many disasters that kill you instantly on this map. This genuinely sucks. Awful map." He angrily spoke in chat.

Can't believe I had suffer through both Crossworlds AND Hellpeaks before this just to play this fucking dogshit map. I'd much rather play normal Florida for 100 rounds straight then this. Hell I'd fucking play Florida realistic edition for 100 rounds then this.

"Sounds like a skill issue really. Haven't died to a single disaster yet." Said Joel.

"That's because you are a scout so you can easily avoid it all, also you got better luck then me."

"You are a bazooker you can easily just rocket jump around if it's THAT much of a problem for you. And no it's still a skill issue not a luck issue noob. "

"Man #### yooouuu. Lucky ######## ############."

"WOW YOU ARE ANGY ANGY LMAAAOOOOOO"

He stood in spawn arguing for a while now. He half considered staying inside for the rest of the round but he decided that getting kills was more important so he started walking.

He was very annoyed with the map being complete bullshit but also with Joel being his toxic and annoying self that gets on his nerves.

Whatever I'll give this map one more chance. Maybe Joel was right and it was just a skill issue on my part… Alex shook his head. Focus on playing Alex the kills won't get themselves.

Not wanting to waste too much time he used his pocket rocket to get to the front trench. He landed next to a friendly rainbowthrower medic and a newgen sapper were next to him so this time he won't be going in alone.

This time he decided to go underground to avoid all the gas and artillery and lightning and whatever else was getting spammed at the no man's land.

He looked around for an opening close by. Alex found the tunnel openings each one leading somewhere underground. The sapper and the medic went through the middle one and not wanting to stick around he followed them in.

Sliding down he expected a straightforward way to the other side. What he instead saw was a turn to the left and right.

The sapper at the front went left so he and the medic followed. The tunnel proceeded to turn to the right and go about halfway through the no man's land before it opened out to a big wide open room with a hole leading to the outside in the ceiling.

The sapper went in full steam ahead but Alex heard a familiar sound behind the seemingly thick walls of the tunnel system…

It was the sound of an ASAW engine revving.

When the sapper reached the middle a saw came flying towards his head from the right.

His head instantly got decapitated. Alex quickly ran out the tunnel while his medic ran behind him.

He shot the tunnel to the right but the trowel guy went back before the rocket hit him destroying the wall nearby him.

He rushed to get an angle on them but in his rush he missed the sound of an engine resulting in his head getting hit with a flying saw.

Alex was flung slightly back but he recovered quickly thanks to the medic. The trowel guy kept firing but all the lost limbs were healed back.

Alex fired and kept firing his rocket rifle at the enemy which bore fruit as the red guy didn't have anywhere to quickly run away to so he instead put an iron curtain wall.

I am not letting that fuck get away. Looking around Alex decided to run to the tunnel that he presumed lead to the exit and he hoped other pathways.

He kept running while the medic overhealed him for the next fight. He turned right then instead of exiting out the left tunnel he kept going until he turned right again and found himself in a room filled with different tunnels.

He stopped to instead listen carefully.

There. He rushed forward to the faint sounds of saw sliding. The sound kept getting louder. He pulled out his pocket rocket in anticipation of meeting his kill.

What he didn't expect was a c4 flying at his face. On reflex he shot a rocket and ran back but it was already too late as the c4 got attached and beeped. He bumped into his medic in panic.

The c4 exploded immediately killing his medic and sending him into a wall breaking both the softish ground and his back.

He was knocked unconscious for a good 3 seconds before he quickly jumped ready for action from adrenaline but nothing came. So he instead ran into the tunnel he got ambushed in only to see a giant spherical room with a dead trowel guy at the back of it.

Guess that hail Mary shot actually hit its target nice. He started walking back the way he came past the corpse of the medic that saved him before not even taking a glance at him.

Alex used his medical supplies on himself to heal some injuries to be more combat ready. Let's see… I ran forward through here… He walked past the room full of tunnels. Then I turned here… He rounded a corner. And that should be the exit. He jogged to a tunnel ignoring some of the phantom pain in his back.

He climbed up the surprisingly smooth hill reaching the other side.

It didn't take him long to find a fight.

Or well more like it didn't take for the fight to come flying into him instead since what he saw was Joel tumbling through the sky. He went right over Alex's head and into the no man's land.

Not wanting to chance whether or not Joel was able to see him, Alex climbed out the trench and started scanning the destroyed land for his enemy.

Looking at the landscape he noticed how destroyed it has gotten. There were large holes, leading into the underground, and craters, giving ample cover for anyone inside them, across all of no man's land. All of the already destroyed structures that were present at the start were wiped off of the face of the Earth. The only thing still remaining was the the hill or rather a lump sticking out of the ground.

He got so distracted by the ruins of the land around him that he forgot what he was supposed to do here. Thankfully a certain someone was more than happy to remind him.

"Yo thicchead!" Alex snaps his head to look forward, seeing Joel poking out of a crater gun already aimed. "Catch this!" He smirked before firing.

The bullet hits Alex's head before he could finish his dodge but it didn't knock him out allowing the bazooker to move fast enough for the second one to barely graze him.

Realizing that he wasn't down Joel quickly fell back into the crater to reload and let Alex get closer. He decided to push and going to the left side.

He slowed down to let his pocket rocket finish recharging before pulling it out and running to the edge of the crater.

As he looked inside and aimed he saw Joel pointing the Oppbliterator at him, but happily for Alex he too was aiming his weapon at him.

They fired at the same time. Alex was knocked back with extremely high velocity resulting in in him almost flying off the edge of the map. Joel on the other hand was dead on the spot.

"Dang it should have played aggressively." Pouted Joel in the chat.

Slowly getting off the ground Alex responded, "Serves you right smh."

"I'm not the one who's using crutches against noobs just to get positive kdr."

"Suuuurreee buddy suuuuuuuuurreeeee." And after that Joel stopped responding.

"Noob"

Well that turned out well for me. Alex thought to himself.

Warning! Tornado in vicinity!

You gotta be fucking kidding me.

The tornado spawned right on top of him instantly sucking him in. He was getting tumbled around slowly losing his already low hp.

He was severely disoriented so he didn't know where the tornado carried him. Not like Alex cared. He was already done with the map.

The tornado finally let him go right inside the trench. His head was spinning so he just laid there in the mud. When the dizziness finally wear off he slowly tried to get up.

But his advance was quickly stopped by a gun barrel getting pushed into his head. Looking up he saw a familiar figure. It was the rigid sniper.

She was looking smug. He didn't have time to say a single word before she pulled the trigger.

Everything went black and Alex died, again.
