Aki’s Diaries
Chapter 1
OMG, we’ve won! We made first place for the Latin, and Sugiki& Fusako received gold for their category. I was so pleased!
Shinya kept sending dirty looks to his namesake. He is really obsessed with that guy. He claims he hates him, but I’m not so sure. He’s probably jealous because Sugiki is world champion, whereas Suzuki has only ever competed nationally. Ah, well, he’s not very ambitious. I’d love to compete in Blackpool, but Shinya’s too lazy to make an effort. We’d need to train much harder, and he wouldn’t be able to live the life, as he calls it.
Booze, parties, sex, and lots of cigarettes, that’s what he thrives on. I’m glad I’m only his dance partner. We had a fling at the beginning, but we both agreed to be friends and partners rather than lovers. He’s a ladies’ man, but he never commits to anybody. All the girls fawn over him. He’s got that bad boy image to the T, all tanned, tattoed, open shirts to flaunt his muscles, and an old timer that’s much too large for our Japanese roads. I do love him, but he’s also quite a challenge, and I pity his future wife.
From what I heard, Sugiki trains all the time. He’s extremely competitive, and it shows. No wonder he’s been successful worldwide. That one’s the perfect gentleman. He’s always dressed in classic shirts and suits. I haven’t ever seen any pictures of him not looking impeccable. Maybe that’s why Shinya despises him so. I’d love to learn from Sugiki Sensei, though, but I’d never dare confess that to Shinya.

Shinya is such an idiot!!! He told me that Sugiki had proposed to work together in preparation to the 10Dance competition, but he refused. He refused!!! I’m so mad!

Aaah, I can’t believe it, we’re doing it! We’re training with the MASTER!
Shinya was probably irked by Sugiki’s condescending attitude, and has risen to the challenge. I’m more than pleased. Men can be so predictable.
Shinya hasn’t been answering my calls, though, and I’m a bit worried. He tends to oversleep after a night of partying. I guess, I’ll need to go to his den in person to make sure we’re on time.

Well, it’s as I thought. I found the idiot in bed with a bunch of naked girls. I had to shoo them away and to urge Shinya to put on some clothes. He was so pissed. I told him we couldn’t be late to our first training session.
We were half an hour late, and Sugiki wasn’t pleased. I was surprised by how lovely and kind Fusako is. She is soft spoken, polite and not at all intimidating. On the contrary, she’s rather shy. We hit it off well, and she showed me the steps. It was lovely to learn from her.
On the other side of the dance floor Sugiki was berating Shinya for his sloppy attitude. He never spoke loudly, but his tone was dripping with contempt and sarcasm. It’s kind of funny to watch Shinya squirm. He hates being told what to do, and he later complained to me, Shinya had pressed his privates into him. Haha, men can be so silly! Those two won’t have it easy with each other.

It’s been a few days since we’ve started training with Sugiki&Fusako, and I love it. I’ve even had the privilege to dance with Sugiki Sensei himself. It’s such a wonderful feeling to be led by him. He’s considerate, self-assured, and extremely competent. I’d never have thought myself capable of learning so much in such a short time. I’m discovering the appeal classic ballroom dance has over Latin.
Shinya has been raging about how humiliating it was to be pressed into a mold by Sugiki. He told me they had been to a high-end restaurant, and that he hadn’t been able to enjoy it because Sugiki had told him he had no manners. He had berated him over the way he held himself, the way he drank, the way he enjoyed the food, the way he put his elbows on the table etc. He was fuming.
I didn’t say anything but I know exactly what Sugiki meant. Shinya can be quite disgusting during meals. He does lack manners, and he drinks too much.

We’ve been doing classic ballroom dance for a few weeks now. Sugiki suggested we begin with Latin dance next week. I’m really excited, and Shinya seems to be, too. I’m a bit worried, though. Shinya’s sometimes a bit unpredictable.
