Love Is Patient, Love Is Kind (Love Is the Hardest Thing to Find)

Summary:

Love was a hard thing to find, to wade through the seas of the world to find someone who could make you happy. There were many things that Klavier would do for love, to have someone care for him like he did them.

And with Apollo, maybe he can find that love. A love that was patient and kind, that made him feel like the most important person in the world.

He just has to reach out.

Notes:

Oh my god, a JVKE inspired fic! Momo is going back to her roots!

XD But hi, everyone! It has been SO long since I've written a fic inspired by a JVKE song! I listened to this song and thought it was SO Klapollo coded. I wrote it because I love my Klapollies hehe. It's been a while since I wrote Klapollo, so this was fun to write!

I just moved back to college, and it's my fourth year (pray for me T^T) so I'll be VERY busy, but I hope I can keep up a semi-regular upload schedule. Please be patient with me!

Hehe that's all I have to say. Enjoy your Klapollies!

Work Text:

“Where are you going after this, Herr Forehead?”

Klavier asked this as he walked through the hallway with Apollo, smiling as the man frowned in thought and pressed a finger to the bridge of his nose. That was a cute habit of his when he was pondering anything heavily, though to Klavier every habit of his was adorable. Whether it be in the courtroom or outside, in the Wright Anything Agency or the prosecutor’s office, whenever Apollo did any of the little habits he didn’t even realize he did, it always put a smile on Klavier’s face. And it made him smile now, as they were chatting on the way to the parking lot. After a long and grueling trial, Klavier was glad that it was just finally over.

Though…he could never complain about spending time with Apollo, he couldn’t even imagine it.

Not when he hummed so adorably as they talked.

“I dunno, probably back to the office.” Apollo replied. “I’ve still got some paperwork that I need to work on.”

“Ach! Not very fun, ja?” Klavier said.

“Eh, not fun. But relaxing, in a weird way.” Apollo said.

“Pfft! Of course you’d find paperwork relaxing, Herr Forehead.” Klavier teased.

“Jerk.” Apollo grumbled, and Klavier laughed.

When they finally made it out of the courthouse they still walked with each other to the parking lot. They were going to the same place, after all! There was a sea of cars parked outside, and Apollo wondered aloud—mostly to himself, though he didn’t seem to mind when Klavier replied—what the lives of the car owners were like. Klavier loved how they could talk about such mundane things, like how each other’s pets were doing or whatever show—or in Apollo’s case, anime—they were watching. Klavier treasured those little moments, where Apollo laughed and glared and smiled and scoffed. His company was always welcome when he was around, and missed when he wasn’t.

“Imagine if one of them was a crazed killer.” Apollo was saying.

“Well, considering that this is the parking lot of a courthouse, where murder trials occur, I’d say there’s a non-zero chance.” Klavier replied.

“Hey, good point!” Apollo said, smiling a little. He then pointed to a bright highlighter yellow car. “Eugh, whoever owns that car must be an egomaniac, though. Seriously, bright yellow?”

Seeing his chance, Klavier grinned. “That’s Herr Edgeworth’s car.”

Apollo looked horrified. “Wh-What?!”

“Nein, I’m just joking Herr Forehead!” Klavier said, laughing. “Herr Edgeworth drives a red sports car.”

“You’re a dick, you know that right?” Apollo said with a frown, glaring at a laughing Klavier. “It kinda makes sense to me that Mr. Edgeworth drives a sports car, in a weird way? Like maybe-” He stopped midword, his eyes widening. “Oh my god.”

“What is it, Herr Forehead?”

“My kitty sense is tingling.” Apollo said.

Klavier raised a brow, amused. “Hä? Kitty sense?”

“I can always sense when there’s a cat nearby.” Apollo explained, glaring at him when Klavier slowly smiled. “What? I do!”

“If you weren’t a crazy cat lad before.” Klavier said, laughing.

“Yeah, I like cats. Deal with it.” Apollo looked around, his expression hardening in concentration. “I just need to find this cat…”

“Well, I can’t complain about finding cats!” Klavier said, grandly gesturing to the parking lot as he added. “Lead the way, bloodhound!”

Klavier was sure they looked insane as they looked all around the parking lot looking for kittens, checking under every car and following the sounds of faint meowing. Apollo seemed to know what he was doing, knowing exactly where to look for lost stray kittens, and Klavier wondered if he was used to finding stray kittens. As Apollo checked underneath a big black pickup truck, he finally found them, if the distressed meows had anything to say about it.

“Here they are!” Apollo cried out, getting up and dusting himself off. “They’re under that car.”

“What do we do?” Klavier asked.

“Get them out of there first.” Apollo said, then asking. “Do you have a long stick?” He then glared when Klavier grinned. “And no, Prosecutor Gavin, this is not the time to make a sex joke.”

“Ach! Such a killjoy, Herr Forehead!”

They both tried to get the kittens out from under the car, but it seemed that they were scared of the two. Not that Klavier blamed them, if he were a kitten and saw a large bipedal furless creature he’d be terrified too. Eventually, Apollo was able to get the kittens out with the “emergency cat treats” that he kept with him at all times. The kittens were still terrified, and some of them still hissed at the two, but Apollo smiled at them and approached them carefully. With how loud Apollo could be, Klavier always found it heartwarming when he saw the moments that he was patient and gentle. The fact that Apollo felt comfortable enough to be gentle around him was something he was forever grateful about.

Eventually, they were able to get the five scrawny kittens from under the truck. They looked thin, they must’ve been strays for a long time. Klavier wondered how they even got to a courthouse parking lot as he watched them squirm in Apollo’s arms.

“What are you going to do with the kittens, Herr Forehead?” Klavier asked.

“I dunno, I’m kinda too busy to take care of five kittens.” Apollo said, though his gaze softened as he looked at the kittens. “I can’t just leave them on their own, though. I guess I can drop them off at a shelter.”

“Ja, that would be best.” Klavier said.

“They’re cute, they’ll get adopted.” Apollo said, and then he sighed. “How am I going to take these kittens to the shelter, though? I can’t bike them there.”

“That’s a problem, ja.” Klavier frowned thoughtfully, and then he offered. “You can order an Uber, ja?”

“How about my bike?” Apollo asked.

“Ach! You can always go back for it.” Klavier answered.

“True…” Apollo looked at the kittens in his arms, and he softly smiled. “These little cuties are worth it.”

God, that tender smile made butterflies flutter in Klavier’s stomach. Seeing the love in his eyes for the kittens, little defenseless things that he didn’t need to help but still did, it was a kindness that Klavier appreciated, made him love the man more than he already did. It made him think about what that love would feel like if it were finally directed at him, to know that Apollo was smiling and laughing because of him. If that ever happened, then Klavier would be the luckiest man in the world.

The two said goodbye to each other as Klavier got on his motorcycle and Apollo went to the nearest bench to sit and wait for his Uber driver. And as Klavier put on his motorcycle helmet, the memory of Apollo smiling so gently filled his heart with a swell of warm affection.

The soft pitter patter of the rain against the windows created a soft, lulling sound.

Usually, Klavier liked getting some coffee at a café that was pretty close to the prosecutor’s office, more for the fresh air than the coffee itself. The interior of the coffee shop was cozy and welcoming, with chalkboards of clever coffee sayings hanging on the brick walls and the scent of coffee joining the sweet smell of pastry. Their coffee was pretty good, worth the 20 minute walk to and from the prosecutor’s office. It was always good to let his legs get a stretch and his mind a break from work, even though Ema said he rested more than worked. Klavier sat back and let the sound of college students typing furiously on their laptops and groups of teenagers chatting after school lull him into a serene calm.

“Caramel macchiato! Caramel macchiato and blueberry muffin for Kantilen!”

Ah, there was his order.

Klavier had gotten accustomed to using fake names for orders, the last time he used “Klavier’ for an order he had gotten mobbed by his fans. And as much as he loved his fans, he’d rather not come back to the prosecutor’s office 10 minutes later than he wanted because everyone wanted an autograph. Klavier smiled at the barista as he took his food, then going to the front door. He looked up at the overcast skies, contemplating if it was worth it to just run through the rain and risk getting soaked like a madman. The prosecutor’s office wasn’t that far away from here, but it was also raining quite hard. What to do, what to do…

“Prosecutor Gavin?”

Klavier turned around, smiling when he saw Apollo. “Herr Forehead! What’re you doing here?”

“…Getting food? What else would I be doing?” Apollo said.

“Ach, you’ve got me there.” Klavier said with a chuckle. “If you’re curious, I was getting food too.”

“I mean, it’s a café. That’s kinda the point.” Apollo said, looking up at the sky. “Yeesh, the rain is pretty bad.”

“I didn’t bring an umbrella.” Klavier admitted.

“I did.” Apollo replied. “I can escort you to the prosecutor’s office with my umbrella, it’s not that far away from here, right?”

“Hä? Really?” Klavier asked, surprised.

“Yeah, I don’t mind.” Apollo said, taking an umbrella out of his bag. “I’m going the same way, anyways.”

“Well, consider the offer accepted!” Klavier said, then adding with a laugh. “Though, I should hold the umbrella. I don’t want you tiptoeing trying to hold an umbrella over me.”

Apollo rolled his eyes. “Jerk.”

Despite Klavier joking about his height, Apollo had given the umbrella to Klavier and they walked to the prosecutor’s office. It was so fascinating how a city could look so different because of the rain, warm and cheery turning into cool and gloomy. But it was just as beautiful, like how a ruby poppy’s radiance didn’t stifle sapphire cornflower’s shimmer. There was beauty in the gloomy, in the melancholic where you stared out the window and felt the cool breeze on your skin. And in the cold light of overcast skies, Apollo still looked handsome as ever. He looked adorable with his red hoodie and those determined eyes. Klavier loved how his brown eyes could look as soft as the plush of a teddy bear and yet as sharp as the thorn of a rose.

“You know, I used to garden.” Apollo spoke up.

“You did?”

“Yeah.”

Klavier nodded, and then he asked. “Doesn’t it get boring? Plants take quite a long time to grow.”

“Yeah, they do. But you have to be patient, tend to the plant and let it grow…” A smile made its way to Apollo’s face. “When you see it sprouting and coming to life, it’s worth it, in my opinion.”

That smile, Klavier would never tire of. It was as beautiful as the first sprout of a plant in the spring. His feelings for Apollo were so resilient, thriving even through harsh rains and hot draught. It didn’t care that it shouldn’t survive without anybody tending to it, it knew that it wanted to love and that was all that mattered to it. And maybe, just maybe…the two of them could tend to it together. Water it, sing a lullaby to it, caress its leaves and petals tenderly. Maybe it’d grow into something beautiful, maybe it’d become a bramble that needed to be cut down, who knew? But Klavier, as he wondered how warm Apollo’s hand would feel in his, was willing—brave enough—to find out.

Soon, they arrived at the prosecutor’s office, and Apollo turned to Klavier. “Well, I’ll see you another time, Prosecutor Gavin.” He said. “It was nice seeing you today.”

“Ja.” Klavier smiled at him. “I’m always happy to see you, Herr Forehead.”

Apollo smiled back.

Giving Apollo back his umbrella, Klavier went inside the prosecutor’s office to go to his own office. After waiting a bit for the elevator, Klavier finally made it to his office. After he sat at his desk, he took out his coffee and drank it, the sweet taste of coffee hitting his taste buds.

But nothing could ever be sweeter than the smile on Apollo’s face.

Klavier was always happy to visit the Wright Anything Agency.

Between the ever so adorable Apollo and the cheery Trucy and the friendly Phoenix who was there sometimes, there was never a boring moment in the Wright Anything Agency. Klavier always went there under the guise of delivering paperwork, staying much longer than he “intended”, or at least say that he intended to. At some point, he started delivering other lawyers’ paperwork too, though the prosecutors didn’t seem to care at all. Today was a great time to visit too, what with the kittens running around the pseudo-law firm. Turns out, nobody was available to foster the kittens, so Apollo offered to foster them, with his friend Clay’s help of course. Apollo had flooded Klavier’s messages with cute pictures of kittens, not that he minded all too much.

When Klavier walked up to the door, he smiled when he heard Trucy and Apollo’s voices.

“Gaaah, Trucy! They’re treats, as in you only give them a bit, as a treat!”

“But they look at me with kitty eyes, Polly! I have to give ‘em some!”

“You have to be strong! Ignore them!”

“I’m not heartless, like you!”

“I swear to god…”

Klavier opened the door, going inside. “Hallo, everyone!” He waved a folder in the air. “I brought paperwork from Herr Payne.”

“Hi, Mr. Gavin!” Trucy greeted cheerily. She was holding a kitten, showing it off to him. “Look, kitten!”

“Ja, they’re adorable! Cuter in person.” Klavier smiled and sat down next to her and Apollo, cooing to the kittens. “Hallo, Lieblings!”

“Watch out for Miso, he’s a biter.” Apollo warned.

“Ach, I’m simply too charming to be bitten- ACK!” Klavier yelped as a brown cat, Miso, bit him.

Apollo burst out laughing.

The kittens all seemed friendly—even Miso, even though he was biting everyone—and they all pounced on each other as they played. Trucy tried to teach Klavier their names, and he tried to keep track of them all, though it was a little hard when they kept jumping around while she tried to point at them. It was amusing to think of Apollo dealing with five hyperactive kittens in his apartment, especially with Mikeko. He was sure that the Wright Anything Agency was less productive with the kittens, though neither Trucy nor Apollo seemed to care, even when one of them—Pumpkin, right?—bit Apollo’s pen while he was writing down something.

At some point, the kittens got tired, and they all slept on a cat bed that Apollo had brought to the Wright Anything Agency, though one of them slept on Apollo’s lap. With no more kittens to play with, Trucy decided to go to the coffee shop near the agency to buy them all food, with Apollo’s money of course. With Trucy gone, Apollo and Klavier talked about…well, anything really. Klavier was always happy to talk about whatever with him, just to hear his loud voice and his laugh that sounded so melodious no matter what. As Apollo talked about whatever trial he was defending yesterday, he mindlessly ran his fingers through Pumpkin’s hair. When Pumpkin yawned snuggled up on his lap, Apollo smiled.

“Pumpkin is a sweetheart.” Apollo said, then adding. “All of them are.” He laughed. “Even Miso, even if he keeps trying to eat my fingers.”

“They’re very cute, Herr Forehead.” Klavier said, then shooting Apollo a wink. “Like you.”

“Hardy har, very funny.” Apollo said sarcastically.

Klavier grinned. “I know, I’m hilarious.”

“Oh god.” Apollo rolled his eyes, though his gaze softened when the kitten yawned on his laptop. “Honestly, these kittens are a lot of work. But once I find them a good home…then it’ll be all worth it.”

The fruits of patience were always worth it, sweeter than any candy could ever be. To sit there and endure the hardships, wade through the pain, get up after everything that life throws at you, all to see the other side of the world that bloomed so beautifully. And people may not have realized it, seeing how sarcastic he was, but Apollo was patient. Hell, he must’ve been patient enough to take care of five kittens despite how busy he was. Sometimes Klavier thought that Apollo would grow tired of him, drop him from his life and move on without him, but he…didn’t. He stayed friends, rolled his eyes at the cheesy pick-up lines and yet not leaving.

Klavier was grateful.

“Ja, it’d be very cruel to leave them on their own.” Klavier said.

“Yeah, they’re really sweet.” Apollo said, then adding in a baby voice as he looked at the kitten sleeping on his lap. “Even if you’re a wittle pain in the ass.”

Klavier laughed. “Wittle pain in the ass?”

“Hey, they have to wear swears at some point.” Apollo replied.

The two stared at each other, and then they burst out laughing.

Laughing with him, Klavier had never been gladder that Apollo was patient enough to stick by him. There were many things that he wanted, to wake up in the morning next to him, to kiss him and tell him he was beautiful, to yell to the world and whoever would listen that this man was the one he loved with all of his heart. And Apollo stayed, laughed with him and smiled with him and rolled his eyes whenever Klavier teased him.

And Klavier was the luckiest man in the world to have Apollo in his life, and he hoped he was lucky enough to have Apollo love him, too.

Klavier smiled as he walked into the park, which was packed with police officers.

Another day, another murder case that Klavier was assigned as the prosecutor for again. This time it was a young woman named Dee Zaster who was killed by her girlfriend Missy Terri after they argue3762d, and a man named Noah Guy was jogging through the park and came across the scene. It seemed like a typical murder, though as Klavier talked to the officers and scouted around himself, there were a few odd things that he wondered about. Little things that didn’t add up, Klavier mentally noted to ask Noah and the other witnesses about these things when he went back to the detention center.

Ema, probably the detective in charge of the case, was leaning against the tree and grumpily eating her snackoos. She was always grumpy though, rolling her eyes when she saw Klavier approach her.

“Hallo, Fräulein!” Klavier greeted Ema. “Keeping an eye on everything, ja?”

“Shut up.” Ema snapped.

“Good to see you too.” Klavier joked, and then he asked. “Who’s the defense attorney for this case?”

Suddenly, the voice of a familiar defense attorney rang through the air. “Dammit, I’m the defense attorney for the case! Lemme through!”

“You’ve got your answer.” Ema said.

Apollo was alone this time, apparently Trucy was at school. Ever since Klavier had met him, he was a lot more motivated to go to investigations now. They were so tiring, combing through the murder scene with a fine tooth comb. But with Apollo it was fun, especially when they had a back and forth while investigating. Apollo asked for the autopsy report, before he went off and investigated on his own. Klavier always loved seeing how determined Apollo got, frowning as he stared at whatever he thought looked out of place. Having a chance to see his adorable deep-in-thought face made how tiring the investigations were worth it.

As Klavier inspected underneath the bench, he heard footsteps approach him. He looked up, lighting up when he saw Apollo.

“Ah! Hallo, Herr Forehead!” Klavier said, then adding with a grin. “Missed me?”

“You say that like I ever left the park.” Apollo said with a roll of his eyes. Then, he asked. “Anyways, I gotta ask. “Did you find anything weird about Ms. Verri?”

“Ah! Fräulein Thea Verri! Ja, she did seem rather…evasive.” Klavier replied, and then he said. “Why?”

“Well, I took some notes on what the witnesses said, and everything I found while investigating.” Apollo showed off his notebook, which was full of neat handwriting. “And some things contradict, I wanna get your opinion…”

Apollo and Klavier talked extensively about the case, at one point they sat down on the bench so Apollo could write down what Klavier was saying. He looked so determined, writing down everything that Klavier said. It was adorable, honestly. His determination was one of the things that he admired so much about him, how his eyes sparkled with a fiery resolve while they were in court while using his tell-spotting ability. It was breathtaking, the deep concentration as Apollo observed every habit of someone. Klavier loved the shade of brown of Apollo’s eyes, as brown as the bark of a sturdy tree and the soft feather of a sparrow. And as Apollo wrote down one last thing, Klavier wondered how beautiful they’d look shining in the morning as they woke up in each other’s arms.

“…Okay, I think that’s everything I wanna know, I think.” Apollo said, putting his notebook and pens in his bag. “I’m gonna go to Ms. Verri’s donut shop to talk to her.”

“I’ll escort you out, Herr Forehead.” Klavier offered.

“It’s like a one minute walk.” Apollo said, and he shrugged. “But okay, I guess.”

Klavier walked with Apollo to the park entrance, talking about whatever plans they had this weekend. And after Apollo waved goodbye to him, Klavier let his gaze linger on him for a moment. He then went back to the crime scene, where Ema raised a brow at him as she shoved a handful of snackoos in her mouth.

“Ah, I miss him already.” Klavier said with a sigh.

“Smitten ass.” Ema said.

“Ach! I will not deny that.” Klavier said, then grinning as he teased. “Jealous, Fräulein?”

Ema audibly gagged. “Eugh! Don’t you ever joke about that!”

Klavier cackled.

━━━━ ❰ ・ ❉ ・ ❱ ━━━━

Klavier typed on his computer, taking a sip from his water bottle. God, did he wish it were coffee.

After the trial, Klavier was glad that he got to rest, working at his computer and responding to emails. It was nice to get back to the office, especially considering how tedious the trial was. Ema asked him if he wanted to go to the investigation, and Klavier said he wouldn’t, he wanted to rest a bit. As much as he’d wanted to see how adorable Apollo would be investigating the crime scene, he also needed rest. But Apollo was visiting him later to discuss the case, so Klavier was going to see him either way, anyways.

Klavier found himself craving the bittersweetness of coffee, especially a caramel macchiato, his favorite coffee drink. He had passed by the café near the prosecutor’s office, wondered if he should get coffee, and decided against it and went directly back to the office. He regretted it now though, finding himself bored as he replied to email after email. Responding to emails and paperwork were the worst parts of being a prosecutor, in his opinion. It would be more pleasant with a cup of coffee, and maybe a banana nut muffin, those two sounded great together. Ugh, now he was hungry.

Hearing someone knock on the door—probably Apollo—Klavier told them to come inside. As expected, it was Apollo.

“Hey, Prosecutor Gavin.” He said as he went inside. “I’m sure you don’t wanna see me again, but I did text you.”

“Ach! It’s quite alright, I’m always happy to see you, Herr Forehead!” Klavier said.

“Good.” Apollo said, then showing Klavier the plastic bags in his hands as he said. “I got us some food and coffee from the café nearby. Coffee always helps me think.”

“Ja, it does for me, too! That’s very thoughtful of you, Herr Forehead.” Klavier said, watching as Apollo set the plastic bag on his desk. “What did you get me?”

“Caramel macchiato.” Apollo said, taking out a coffee cup and handing it to Klavier. “Here.”

“Hä? Really?” Klavier said, then adding. “It’s my favorite.”

“Well, you ordered it when we met at the café, I figured you probably liked it.” Apollo replied with a shrug.

They quickly moved on from the mundane topic of coffee to the case they were working on, brainstorming and crafting theories from whatever evidence they had. But as they worked, Klavier sipped his caramel macchiato, taking in the flavor of bittersweet coffee with creamy milk and sweet caramel. Apollo had thought about him, remembered his coffee order from when they met once. Sometimes he remembered little things that Klavier said, a throwaway comment that he didn’t think anyone paid attention to. But Apollo did, took everything in and stored away anything he thought was important. And apparently…Klavier was one of those important things.

Apollo always made him feel important, when he smiled and laughed or even glared at him. Now too, as he explained the confusing mess that was the witness testimony only hours later. Klavier wondered what it’d be like to be in his arms, to cuddle with him in those quiet moments when they just needed each other’s company. He could just imagine it, those strong arms wrapped around him.

If only he were brave enough to reach out, to finally try to put into words the swell of joy every time he saw Apollo.

But for now, the sweetness of coffee and Apollo’s determination as he tried to explain what the witness had told him when he visited her in the detention center.

The stars were so beautiful at night.

After their trial—Apollo had won, of course—Klavier had invited Apollo out for dinner, to a nice burger joint that Trucy had described as having the “best burgers in Japanifornia”, though Klavier personally disagreed. Though, he’d go to any restaurant if it meant he got to spend time with Apollo, who never passed up a free meal. They talked the hours away while in the burger joint, Klavier cackling as he teased Apollo, who glared at him while grumpily eating his fries. He could never say no to spending time with the man, to talk with him about nothing and anything. Apollo could talk about paint drying or grass growing and Klavier would listen like it was the most interesting thing in the world.

After they finished their food, they decided to walk around to get some fresh air. The night air was cool and the stars twinkled against the black velvet of the sky, proudly sparkling like the sequins of a beautiful dress. The night was quiet, only the sounds of cars driving by and the rustling of tree branches filling the air. And yet with Apollo, Klavier felt content, as serene as a lake in a vast lush forest. Sometimes Klavier wondered what life would be like without him, because right now, he couldn’t imagine a life without Apollo. And he didn’t want to, he didn’t want to imagine a world where he couldn’t hear him protest when Klavier teased him, or how his smile brightened his whole day, or even just passing him by in the hallways of the courthouse.

And to think that years ago, Klavier didn’t even know him.

Life was funny that way, wasn’t it?

“You know, sometimes I wonder.” Klavier started, adding when Apollo raised a brow inquisitively. “About life, ja? Years ago, I wouldn’t have ever expected I’d meet someone like you.”

“Ha, same with you.” Apollo said, snorting out a laugh. “I never thought I’d be friends with someone as annoying as you.” He then smiled. “But…I like being around you. I’m glad I met you.”

Hearing that was like hearing the stars’ heavenly song. It was unfair how that man could make him happy with just a smile and a few words. And usually he’d be afraid, to put his gilded feelings into words, words that could never capture how he truly felt. But he could try, couldn’t he? He could try to say how Apollo’s eyes mesmerized him, or how his laugh made the world feel brighter, or how his careful attention made him feel like the most important man in the world. It definitely wasn’t going to be perfect, but every thought and feeling that he had for the man banged on the bars of the cage of his heart, wanting to be set free. And now, seeing Apollo look at him in intrigue, he was brave enough to unlock it.

“…Ja, I like being around you too. I love it, actually.” Klavier said. “I love so many things about you, I can’t list them, we’d be here all day.” He reached out and held Apollo’s hands in his, they were just as warm as he thought they’d be. “I wish I could tell you, everything I feel for you.”

Apollo stared at him with wide eyes, and it looked like he was…smiling. “Prosecutor Gavin…”

“It’s ironic that I’m a songwriter, Apollo. I could never put how much I love you into words.” Klavier said.

“Well…I don’t know how to put into words how much I love you too.” Apollo said, and he smiled. “But I know how I can show you.”

He leaned in and captured Klavier’s lips in a kiss. Apollo tasted like the cherry slushie that he had earlier in the burger joint, sweet and refreshing and everything that Klavier could have ever wanted. It seemed that the stars sang as they held each other in a warm embrace, to feel the love that Klavier had yearned for. To think that Apollo loved him, maybe just as much as he did. It always felt out of reach, because he wasn’t brave enough, because he was scared that saying it would ruin what they already had. But he’d found it, the love that he’d always wanted that was so hard to find in the world.

The two separated from the kiss, and Klavier had never seen anything as beautiful as Apollo’s face with a light dusting of blush on his cheeks.

“I should…get going home.” Apollo said. “I’m sure Mikeko misses me.”

“I’ll drive you home.” Klavier offered.

“Yeah, I’d like that.” Apollo said, and then he laughed. “Even if your motorcycle is a death machine.”

The two walked back to the burger joint where Klavier had left his motorcycle, and his heart swelled in joy as Apollo reached for his hand and held it in his.

To think…that he finally found the love that he was looking for.

He was the luckiest man in the world.
