I am trying to wrap my head around the idea of moving from one sailing ship to another on a gangplank. Yes, that would work if they were all tied up side-by-side to a sturdy pier, but not while under sail. Even supernaturally agile elves could not keep the plank from falling into the sea when the ships roll apart. I can’t even see how rope bridges would work, since the ropes couldn’t maintain a steady tension. Better get that fleet some rowboats.
Sorry to be nitpicking. I AM enjoying the story, but I’m too much of an armchair sailor not to be pulled up short by this sort of thing. I had to get it off my chest. (My sea chest? No, I’m disabled and can’t go to sea myself, but my nautical-themed library is ridiculous.)
Hi again! It's ok, I don't mind the nitpicking, specially when it's from someone who knows more about a subject than me (and my knwlodge of ships is not the best, as you may have noticed). To write this part of the story, I worked with the idea of the teleri naval technology being advanced enough for the gangplanks system to work on the sea, which I am very good at picturing with my mind but not very good at putting into words. And since I didn't want to make a really big arc out of the Noldor crossing the sea (cuz I have other plots and events in mind for the next chapters) I didn't look very deeply into the details about the ships and the logistics.
Thanks for the constructive critic, I totally understand you needing to get this off your chest, cuz I do the same when watching historical movies/series and noticing the historical innacurancies lol.
