Comment on The Paradox

  1. That's why neither the Inu no Taisho nor Inuyasha could master it! Sesshomaru is OP and he doesn't even know it XD I love me a superiority/inferiority complex.

I love your sword headcanon! It feels very true to their relationship, especially how you portray it. Yet, it is fundamental as you write it, not repetitive, and not predictable.

I always headcanoned the swords not as entirely sentient, but rather a direct impression of their father (can you tell I love writing fucked up family dramas) and a representation of his love for them; where each sword has a will of its own and that that will serves to guide his sons the way he wanted in his absence. In a my sister's keeper/jacob have i loved kind of way though, where it's not that either child is hated, but that one needs more care and receives it at the expense of the other. Post-mortem, both brothers have shit emotional intelligence, are brutal, and youkai amoral you get the hot mess that is sesshomaru and inuyasha. Pre-meidou reveal I used to headcanon that Tenseiga wasn't even his father's blade in truth/not equal to tessaiga, so I called that reveal. (The tenseiga's powers are just so different from everything we knew about their father!) Like, it makes sense that their father would look at his hypercompetent, bloodthirsty son and be like 'he can definitely deal with this.'

Cursed is he who slays his own brother, right? XD I LOVE that fic. It's become one of my characterization reference fics, it's such a concise punch to the gut. So AU, but so canon in that it's derided as something unnatural and worthy of condemnation; that's why Sesshomaru gets his ego destroyed over 300 chapters for even trying. He think he's looking for power like nooo karma is coming for your ass that's why you're suffering man.

I see there's a ? now for numbers of chapters and I'm so excited for this story. Especially if there's a Inuyasha subplot to see how he handles impotence if (when?) he fails to master the tenseiga. Or, if in Sesshomaru's absence, as he is beloved by the blade, he is forced to reunite the sword with its chosen master!

    1. Your headcanon about the swords is basically canon! I think that was the creator's intent to portray the swords as an instrument for their father's will; Totosai even mentions it directly in the anime.

I'm glad you liked Late! I wrote it in the spur of the moment for a daily drabble thing on discord and then decided I liked it enough to post it.

I have certain scenes that I really want to write for this story and that's why it's grown! Lots of subplot and worldbuilding potential that I can't help lol. I think next time, I'm going to focus on a very specific and limited storyline and then paring everything down to 7-8 short, impactful scenes to ensure it doesn't spiral out of control. Also, have realized that I prefer third person present tense for these short scenes but it's a bit drudgy for multichapter fics (I miss my third person past tense now).
